Blue and Green: Printed Dresses and Rebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote Bag

I've always found green a little tricky to wear, but since embracing blue and green together I've had a lot more outfit options! Both of these summer dress outfits contain navy and green, but in differing amounts.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Just a heads up that this is the 21st wear of this dress, so I'm aiming to rewear it more often to get it to 30 wears this year! Fingers crossed! I tend not to wear it on days with boys as it feels a little short when bending down to pick up toddlers. It was perfect for our annual pre-Christmas shopping trip while the boys were in daycare though. In previous years we've even gone to Melbourne for it, but this year we just went down to Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast as I had a present to pick out at Louis Vuitton!

The #DAREcember style challenge for the day on Instagram was 'scarf', but it was much too humid for that! I knew we'd be going to Louis Vuitton so I dressed up my bag a little with the LV bandeau scarf tied in a bow. A nice neutral navy tote like this is perfect for accessorising with scarves.

The green necklace with the navy dress was another addition because of a style challenge, to meet the 'evergreen' prompt. I wasn't too sure about the green with the pinks and purples on the scarf though, but I think that they were far enough away that it worked. We had a really fun day shopping and then went out for dinner after picking up the boys from daycare.

Last worn: navy printed shift dress, Rebecca Minkoff studded sandals, Louis Vuitton bandeau, first time I've worn the bag as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearnavy printed shift dress and denim jacket, Rebecca Minkoff studded sandals worn 30 waysLouis Vuitton bandeau as hairband.

Perfect for pregnancynavy printed shift dress in third trimester, Louis Vuitton Bandeau as a belt in second trimester.

Why I wore it:

This tee dress is a favourite, it was worn almost weekly when I first got it, so I'm surprised it's only on its 12th wear! I stopped wearing it so frequently when baby T became mobile, like the dress above I'm worried it's a little short when I bend down to a toddler. The one thing I forgot about this dress is how easily it creases too - especially when little toddler hands grab and pull your dress when you're distracted and they want a cuddle, right before you take an outfit photo, haha! Creases are a fact of life though!

This was another child free day, as I left the boys with their grandmother to enjoy a little time to myself, to pick up some last minute Christmas things and indulge in a pedi before Christmas. Even though it's January, I still have December outfits to share! I am so pleased I started my Christmas leave a little before the big day, it was nice to ease into the busy Christmas time with some quiet moments to myself. Doesn't happen often when you're the mum of two toddlers, so the occasion deserved a pretty dress and some of my favourite accessories.

With the green on the print of the dress and the navy Regan satchel bag, this outfit has the same colour scheme as the one above, only with the proportions of each colour switched.

How You Can Wear It:

Printed dresses are easy options to deal with the summer heat. You don't need to think about accessories as the print makes enough of a statement on it's own. It doesn't mean you can't accessorise though, and have fun with colour. Accessories are a nice way to try out a new colour combination you might be unsure of at first, like green and blue.

Hermes Twilly Scarf Worn 2 Ways With Fit and Flare Dresses For Work

One of the benefits of being a working mum is having the day in the office to wear pieces that wouldn't be a wise idea to wear at home with two toddlers. This Hermes silk twilly scarf is dry-clean only so not a good option for a stay at home mum day. Perfect for the office though, where the chances of a grown up smushing their banana into your outfit is a lot lower!

What I wore:

Balenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag | away from the blue

NecklaceJeanswest Taki necklace (C/O)

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats

Why I wore it:

I wore this for Melbourne Cup day in the office. It's the 'race that stops Australia' and it means that at some point in the afternoon everyone stops work to watch the horse race. Victorians even have the day off for it! Up in Queensland, we settled for a free lunch, some office sweeps and a little distraction in the middle of the work day.

In the past there have been best dressed or best hat competitions in the office, but the celebrations this year were a lot more subdued. Lunch was drastically under catered (luckily I brought my own as a back up) and no prizes or awards. I did get into the spirit and wear my Hermes Twilly scarf as a headband though, a subtle nod to Race Day fashion! Every time I wear scarves in my hair like this I get so many compliments - I felt pretty good about this outfit all day.

I was a little late to work that morning because of the twilly though! The day before I'd thought of the twilly and gave it a try, tying it in a perfect bow on my head first go. So of course in the morning rushing to work I assumed it would be just as easy. It wasn't, and I got to work 15 minutes later than normal! Luckily I start 30 minutes early every day.

Last worn: Hermes twilly, black fit and flare dress, silver ballet flats, purple Balenciaga work bag.

Other ways to wearHermes twilly and jeans, black fit and flare dress in winter, silver ballet flats and skinny jeans, purple Balenciaga work bag and blue dress.

Why I wore it:

Another day in the office, another fit and flare dress. Had to get this one out again after loving wearing the black one above. Rather than wearing my twilly scarf in my hair again I wrapped it (a little sloppily) around my wrist. I like wearing my twillies like this, but I so rarely do as it's definitely not a good idea when you're around toddlers - would get much too dirty there. Still was nice to wear it like that for a day in the office.

I liked the statement necklace and fit and flare dress outfit combo above, so added this pretty neon statement necklace with the striped dress. I've worn these two pieces together before, it's a combination I really like.

How You Can Wear It:

Fit and flare dresses are such an easy option for work, and really don't need much accessorising. It's easy to throw on a statement necklace and go. If you want to add a little extra colour, you can try a brightly coloured bag like this purple Balenciaga work, or wrap a twilly scarf around your head or wrist for a fun pop against a neutral outfit.

Colourful Pants and Black Shirts for the Office

When we arrived home from Sydney, it was cold and wet, not the kind of days I feel most motivated for outfit wise. There was also the added 'frump factor'. Maybe because we stayed in the centre of the city, maybe because we frequently walked past restaurants and people celebrating, but everyone in Sydney just looked so put-together and glamorous. I came away from the trip feeling a bit frumpy and very mumsy after having a toddler strapped to me in the carrier almost every day.

I slipped back into a simple outfit formula for work that I've relied on many times in the past - colourful pants and ankle boots. Minimal thinking required, perfect when feeling uninspired. If you follow me on instagram you'll know I stuck with my pants rut for a few days until the weather warmed up and I pulled out one of my favourite dresses to change things up a bit!

What I wore:

colourful pants for work with ankle boots star print shirt brown accessories navy mac | awayfromblue

balenciaga autumne truffle brown classic RH day hobo bag navy coat | awayfromtheblue

NecklaceHouse of Harlow 5 station necklace in black and silver
Shirt: Zara star print shirt
PantsJeanswest 'shale' super skinny jeans
ShoesAsos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

I've contemplated letting these jeans go a few times, as when it comes to colourful jeans I'll usually go for my red or purple pair and these are a bit neglected. But they manage to be jeans that don't look like traditional denim and so work nicely for the office in the middle of the week. Not that blue jeans aren't worn during the week in my office, just that I try to keep them to casual Friday. A habit I had back when I worked 5 days a week.

I did wonder if cuffing these and adding the ankle boots made them look more like the jeans that they are, but it was cold and wet and since I don't have rainboots, ankle boots were the best way to go. I was grateful for these as I walked around in the rain. The brown Balenciaga day bag matches the Chelsea ankle boots quite nicely too I thought.

The star print shirt is a thrifted favourite - it has a nice relaxed fit so it's really comfortable (and I've worn it casually before) but the buttons make it formal enough for work. I find printed shirts great work to weekend pieces!

Last worn: navy mac, star print shirt, grey skinny jeans, Chelsea leather ankle boots, Balenciaga truffle day bag.

Other ways to wearnavy mac and printed dress, star print shirt and metallic jeans, grey skinny jeans and ruffle cami, Chelsea leather ankle boots and shift dress, Balenciaga truffle day bag and denim shorts.

Perfect for pregnancy: star print shirt in first trimesterskinny jeans and hidden baby bump, ankle boots and second trimester bump, Balenciaga day bag hiding an early baby bump.

Why I wore it:

As you can see, in my rushed and frazzled state this morning I even forgot my usual final swipe of lippie before walking out the door. I spent a bit of time deliberating what necklace to wear, before deciding just to go with a scarf instead as it was easier. This colourful one stood out so I threw it on and quickly took photos before heading to work. Ended up keeping it on in the office to combat the office air conditioning which managed to be even colder than outside!

Picked the burgundy pants for a bit of colour to try and give my mood a boost, and the black henley shirt and ankle boots go with everything.

Just like the outfit above, I've worn these burgundy pants casually too. They are my favourite for work outfits though. I've unsuccessfully tried a few times to get these in other colours, but I've rarely found non-denim pants at Jeanswest since I bought these years ago.

Maxi Dresses, Denim Jacket and Silver Mini MAC

Father's day weekend celebrations at the start of September meant the chance to dress up a little with my favourite maxi dresses. Maxi dress and denim jacket is a frequently worn outfit combo for both spring and autumn for me.

What I wore:

BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

Wore this for to celebrate Father's day with the family and then the in-laws in the afternoon. I got lucky and even though we ate out for lunch we had takeaway for dinner. It was nice not to have to cook anything other than breakfast all day!

This dress is so beautiful, always gets a lot of love when I wear it. Pleased to have it in my wardrobe after my bestie tired of it and gave it to me. I liked how well the feather pendant matched the peach of the dress, and the silver mini MAC bag was a good neutral too.

I wore silver ballet flats with this too but they are a little tricky to see as the breeze kept catching the hem of the dress.

Why I wore it:

I wore this the day before as we had an early Father's Day brunch with my dad and family. We ended up sitting outside at the restaurant and it was such lovely weather I really didn't need my denim jacket on. A good start to spring.

You'll probably already know that this maxi dress is my favourite given how much I wear it! One of those treasured maternity pieces that works perfectly for breastfeeding too and so pretty that I continue to wear it even though those days are behind me. Nothing new here with this wearing! It's been worn many times with this denim jacket, and the colourful Louis Vuitton bandeau scarf as a belt is a favourite go-to outfit combination.

Just like the outfit above I wore the metallic silver mini MAC bag with this, silver was a good neutral with the colourful dress.

The good thing about maxi dresses is that they work for so many occasions - later that afternoon we had to go grocery shopping, no need to change into a different outfit!

How You Can Wear It:

Maxi dresses are perfect for summer, but it's so easy to wear them on a warm spring or autumn day by simply adding a denim jacket. A denim jacket is a classic outfit topper which looks good with all styles of dresses, definitely a must have piece for spring.

Open Knits and Colourful Jeans with Converse and Cross Body Bags

It's spring now in Brisbane but I still have some older winter outfits like these to share.  A cosy knit and colourful jeans is a simple cold weather outfit. I didn't wear my knitted jumpers a lot over winter as dry clean or handwash only pieces aren't my first choice for wearing around two toddlers! They worked perfectly for work from home days when I do the daycare pick up / drop off.

What I wore:

SAHM style ombre open knit purple skinny jeans leopard print scarf white converse | AwayFromBlue

ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs waxed leather cream howlite beaded wrap bracelet
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

I absolutely loved this outfit - it's taken me a while to get around to posting it on the blog though! I wore this when it was really chilly in the middle of winter, so the extra scarf was necessary for the cold morning. I wasn't sure what scarf to wear with this at first, the purple jeans and ombre knit are a busy enough outfit on their own. I've worn the ombre knit with leopard print before though so I grabbed this one. I really liked the way this looked.

Nice and cosy (with a long sleeve tee under the open knit) and colourful with the purple jeans, but comfortable and quick to pull together in time for dropping the kids off at daycare before working from home for the rest of the day.

Last worn: leopard print scarfombre knit, purple skinny jeans, Converse, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere.

Other ways to wear: leopard print scarf and red shift dressombre knit and burgundy pantspurple skinny jeans with matching scarf, Converse and printed jeans, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere and maxi dress.

NecklaceUniquely Made with Love Sea Change necklace
JumperWildfox Couture rainbow dreamer Lennon distressed knit
Jeans: thrifted Emerson red skinny jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

This distressed knit is either a love or a hate, I don't think there's any in-between! First time I wore it I shared that Baby Boy kept getting tangled in the distressed pieces. Last time I wore it I rolled and tucked to hide the distressing a little more. Since I didn't get a proper blog photo first time I wore it, I was eager to wear it in all its raw ripped glory again. A work from home day with the boys at daycare was the perfect chance - no little toddler hands grabbing and pulling on it! A day to myself meant I could wear a 'grown up' beaded necklace too, even if I did have to take it off in the evening as baby boy kept trying to play with it like he does with my teething necklaces.

I loved how colourful this outfit was with the rainbow knit, red skinny jeans and yellow bag. Felt a little 'wasted' as I only worked from home and didn't see many people, so I'm sure I'll wear this combination again next winter.

I feel a little sad when I look up the previous times I've worn these knits as they've been worn so rarely. I've actually downsized my jumper collection this year, rather than buying more. Usually June is a big spending month for me coming into winter and stocking up on winter pieces, but as I was doing my no-shop challenge I haven't added any wintery things. I'm sure I'll return to loving my knits more next winter when the boys are bigger, but right now I've been preferring layering up summer pieces and sticking to wearing things that are machine washable. Two toddlers can be messy!

How You Can Wear It

Cold morning and in a rush? Grab a favourite knit, add some bright jeans and you're ready in an instant! I like the winter days where it's warm enough to just wear a jumper and jeans, it's the simplest and easiest outfit formula and keeps you cosy no matter what the day holds. Maybe just stick to machine washable knits if you're spending time with toddlers!

Plain Jersey Maxi Skirts and Striped Tops

The classic rule of 'you can't go wrong with stripes' is one I follow when I'm not sure what to wear. With my plain maxi skirts, a striped top is a great addition. Add in a few colourful layers and you have a comfortable and practical outfit stay at home mum outfit for running around with two toddlers.

What I wore:

ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver, 15% off both with code 'TREAT')
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey (on sale, 30% off!)
Nails: OPI Fire Escape Rendezvous

Why I wore it:

I've been playing along a little with #FMSPAD_STYLE style challenge on Instagram, which is taking the FMS picture a day challenges and making them style orientated. I posted this one for the letter 'G' due to the green in the scarf, but I'd actually worn it a few days before. I had a couple of errands to run with the boys and we had a relaxing morning which then translated to me rushing around the stores trying to fit everything in before lunch time, ha! At least I was comfortable with all the running around.

This striped tee is one of my favourites but it hasn't been worn much this winter. It was good to get it out again and it was a nice print to pair with the plain drawstring waist maxi skirt. The scarf was cosy for the cooler morning and I like the colour combo of the scarf with the burgundy stripes. I've worn it them together before.

Other ways to weardenim jacket and maxi dress, Marc Jacobs scarf and flares, burgundy stripe tee and skinny jeans, drawstring maxi skirt worn two ways, Walnut Melbourne flats and skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini and colourful printed skirt.

Why I wore it:

It was a quieter morning when I wore this. Again sticking with the plain maxi skirt and striped top combo, this time with my mustard yellow cardigan. If you follow me on Instagram you'll have seen this cardi pop up a lot recently!

I've always admired mustard yellow cardigans on others and wanted to add one to my wardrobe, but never found the right one. Until a few months into my #6MonthsWithoutShopping challenge, when I saw the perfect cardigan at an opshop, for $2. I really wanted it but had to walk away to stick to my challenge. Every time I passed I'd see it and wish I could get it. Until one day, it was gone as someone else bought it. 😢

While taking some bags of clothes from mine and my sister's wardrobe to the opshop the other week I had a little browse on the racks and spotted this! Not the same style as the other cardigan I'd seen, and not in as good condition, but it does have pockets and it was also $2 so I'm happy! I like the colour it added to the otherwise neutral outfit. Although the Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan isn't an exact match to the mustard shade, I think they look nice together.

How You Can Wear It:

You really can wear stripes with anything! A plain, block colour maxi skirt is a nice base for a printed top. If you want to add more you could try mixing stripes with another pattern with a scarf, or add a colourful layer with a cardigan and let the stripes be the only print in your outfit.
