I took advantage of one of our spring cold snaps to layer up a little, wearing colourful pants with my neutral tees. One of which is leaving my wardrobe.
What I wore:
Jacket: Atmos&Here Nigella collarless shirt dress (worn as kimono)
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Feather pendant in peach (C/O)Tee: Atmos&Here rolled sleeve oversize tee in black (also in grey)
Pants: Jeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
Shoes: Asos leather Chelsea boots in tan
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather (on sale!)
Why I wore it:
It was a wet and windy day when I wore this. It wasn't very nice weather for the public holiday, or for the planned BBQ at the in-laws. Luckily BBQ's can still go on when it rains! Even if you do have to send someone out with an umbrella to do the cooking. 😂Since I had been wanting to wear a dress, I decided to persist anyway and wear this printed shirt dress as a kimono. It was a nice extra layer against the wind. These burgundy pants are really good for work, but I like to wear them casually too - that's the main reason I bought them actually. They pass easily for skinny jeans, and look really nice cuffed over ankle boots.
Leaving my Wardrobe: Black V-Neck Tee
Unfortunately this is the last wearing of this black tee on the blog. I really like it but it's just not held up very well. It's normally soft and has the perfect drape, however to maintain that it needs a gentle wash and when you wear it around toddlers and babies...everything usually needs more than a gentle wash at the end of the day! It's been tossed in the washing machine for a serious wash too many times and has just stretched out and lost that softness. I was much too uncomfortable constantly pulling it back up and tugging it into place through the day. It's no longer fitting well and has stretched out so I really can't wear it. I usually plan to wear things one last time, and during the day as I constantly readjusted the tee I realised this was its last wear!I'm sad it hasn't had a longer run in my wardrobe, but I know it was my own neglect that lead to it leaving. It was $17.47 and I wore it 15 times, $1.16 cost per wear. Not bad, but I really wish I could have hit 30 wears on it!
Last worn: shirt dress, black tee, burgundy pants, Chelsea ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC.
Other ways to wear: shirt dress worn two ways, black tee and printed shorts, burgundy pants worn two ways, Chelsea ankle boots and maxi dresses, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and printed shorts.
Perfect for pregnancy: black tee in third trimester, burgundy pants in second trimester with a belly band, Chelsea ankle boots in second trimester, mini MAC and maternity shorts.
Colourful Pants Under $50:
What I wore:
Necklace: Jeanswest Taki necklace (C/O)
Tee: Atmos&Here grey v-neck tee with rolled sleeves (also in black)
Jeans: thrifted Emerson red skinny jeans
Shoes: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey
Why I wore it:
Since I liked the outfit above so much, I decided to wear a very similar one on the next cooler spring day. These red jeans are perfect with all of the neutrals, such a nice pop of colour. This striped duster is a good layer for spring - nice and light, not too heavy but keeps the wind at bay. Very comfortable to work from home and do the daycare drop off / pick up.Unlike the black tee above, this grey tee is faring much better in my wardrobe and will be hanging around for a while. I have 7 grey tees in my wardrobe, a grey tee is a wardrobe must-have for me.
Last worn: stripe duster, slouchy grey tee, red skinny jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag.
Other ways to wear: stripe duster and chambray dress, slouchy grey tee and maxi skirt, red skinny jeans and graphic tee, Converse and maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Love and floral dress.
Perfect for pregnancy: stripe duster in second trimester, grey tee for second trimester travel, Converse in second trimester, Love bag in third trimester
Printed Dusters Under $50:
How You Can Wear It:
Colourful jeans or pants are a fun way to add some colour to neutral layers. A printed kimono or duster is another way to add interest to your outfit, and perfect for fluctuating spring temperatures.

Clothes have such a hard life around toddlers... I should probably change at the office into my at home clothes, even the short time of saying hi to them and then going up to change leads to horrible staining.

haha yes, it really does!
DeleteI loved the outfits and layers are great in cooler weather. I laughed when you mentioned clothing around toddlers. I actually had to up my neckline when wearing shirts because my son is always pulling down on my clothing.

haha yes they impact our wardrobes in the strangest ways!
DeleteI love that you pulled out the colored jeans!!! I think they are so perfect with so much!!

It's always so fascinating to me there are different seasons going on at the same time around the world! I'm in Chicago so it's Fall (but freezing at the moment!!) so I'm jealous of your BBQ!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful in all these outfits!
Sorry about your black tee :( I get so sad when this happens - I have TONS of black basic t's but I have like 2 or 3 favorites that I wear CONSTANTLY so it's always a sad day to lose a favorite. I think most girls can relate - and most guys probably think we're crazy hah!

Your first outfit is so beautiful, I really love the colours. I recently re-discovered a pair of plum pants in my wardrobe and I plan to wear them a lot, I love to pair this colour with white, black and also grey :)

Dear Mica, I see finally it was an advantage that the weather was rainy and you wore the dress in that way as a jacket! And I understand you loved the first look although it is a pity that it was the last day you wore the shirt. But it is understandable that your shirts must have the necessary shape and as this shirt lost the shape ...
ReplyDeleteI love your second look, too! It's colourful and so cool with the red pants!
Hopefully you will have up to now warm and sunny spring days!

I'm sorry you had to part with such a loved piece. I wonder if it wouldv'e lasted longer if you bought a 50$ tee? It may seem expensive but if you could wear it longer it might be worth it.
ReplyDeleteZoeVogue
It may have - but I don't think many things would hold up to the tough washes I put thing that have been stained in gastro outbreaks through, haha! Given the grey tee in the same style still looks new I'm positive it was my washing and not the tee :)
DeleteNicely worn. You just reminded me of my red jeans that I have not worn in so long!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that you took advantage of the weather to get a few snapshots. I love the burgundy and mint colour combination. Very lovely together. Now, I need to look for more colourful pants. Have a wonderful week, dear. <3 /Madison
ReplyDeleteDas sind tolle Pullover Stile!
I do not even own a plain grey tee or black tee! I love both of these looks - they really suit your personal style. I especially like the pop of the turquoise off the burgundy skinny trousers - very nice! I like how you're wearing the shirt-dress as a kimono, and you do the duster very nicely in the bottom outfit too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila! I can't imagine you in a plain tee - you have too many fun pieces in your wardrobe! :)
DeleteI love this layered Spring look because it can be work in Fall too and over where I'm from it's Fall =). Burgundy is such a hot color right now so I'm really loving the deep color of your pants. Your hair is getting so long too. It looks great!

Hi Mica! I hope the weather is getting better. That's a great idea to use the shirt dress as a layering piece. Great way to maximize your wardrobe items as well as the black tee. The looks are very cute!!

I love that bag really pops against the first outfit. Unusual colour combo but it really works! I’ve only just started getting back into jeans & reading your blog always makes me want to go out & buy a bunch in different colours & patterns haha

haha I do love my bright jeans! :)
DeleteV-neck tees are my favorite :)
ReplyDeleteI love the dress as kimono in the first look, it works really well! The second look is really fun too--I love that long striped cardigan! I'm glad you still got to have your BBQ, even in the rain!
ReplyDeleteGreat looks! Love them both. Have a great day.

A black tee is just so versatile! x
ReplyDeleterhymeandribbons.com
Shame about the tee, but you're right, you do need tees that are hardy when you've got little ones! Glad the grey one has held up though, I agree a grey tee is an essential in the wardrobe. I love how you wore that dress as a "dressigan" in that first outfit - such a great idea to get more wears out of a button up dress!
ReplyDeleteEileen | 5feetofstyle.com
Yes I've been much more gentle with the grey tee! Makes me aware I should be more considerate with all my clothes when I wash them!
DeleteI love all your layered looks.. i love the fact that you play your colors really well.

I love how you turned the dress into a cardigan! So creative! RIP to your beloved black tee! I am sure you will find another good one to replace it.

I have a pair of burgundy pants and I'm always trying to find new ways to style them. I love the button down top with them and the polkadots on it! It sounds like you got pretty good wear out of that tee, too funny that you knew how many times you wore it! I wonder how much wear I get out of all of my clothes, something to think about!

It's definitely interesting when you start to tally up all the wears! :) I take a photo of what I wear each day so I can always get a count by looking through the blog :)
DeleteLove the berry pants with that fabulous kimono top. Also love the stripes in the second outfit. Both combos are sensational. I hate when a top I love has to go... but it happens. Have a wonderful day!,

You got a lot of wear out of that black tee! Sad to see it go, such a nice layering piece. The fact that it was versatile enough to wear during and after pregnancy makes it a win to me. :-) I also love pants that can be worn for work and play, so nice to get more out a pair!

Yes, it was such a nice tee I'm sad it's gone - I'll be much more careful washing the grey tee! :)
DeleteCan definitely appreciate why you are retiring the black tee. I hate when something gets bent out of shape and you just spend the day constantly readjusting! Loved looking back at all the times you had worn it before!
ReplyDeleteYes it's nice to be able to look back on it!
DeleteJealous of your burgundy pants! I've been looking for a pair for awhile but haven't found THE ONE yet!
ReplyDeleteHope you find them! Pants are a struggle for me too, I feel your pain! These are the only ones in my wardrobe, the rest are denim, haha!
DeleteThat's smart dressing Mica! I love V neck tees and you've given me inspiration to purchase more. Love the outfits you put together. They look really good. Our weather has been fickle as well.

I love the red jeans, but the burgundy... YES! I love those so much!

Thanks all for your kind comments - and commiserations on my old black tee! A lesson for me to pay attention to care labels when washing, haha!
