Navy: Striped Maxi Skirts and Colourful Cross Body Bags

Just like I showed in my previous post, a plain tank is a great piece to wear with prints. I like my striped maxi skirts as stripes are easy to pattern mix with, as well as adding a little interest to an outfit when paired with a basic tank.

Why I wore it:

Cooper's face in that handbag photo! He's just so cute! It's easier for him to see again now he's had his fur clipped back.

This outfit is a great example of picking something you love and making a few changes to create a new outfit that you still love as much as the original. I wore a very similar outfit here. Instead of a monochrome outfit I wore a brown tank and a colourful yellow bag. I really liked this outfit. It's so simple, plain tank and printed skirt, but I was happy and comfortable in it for running a few errands in the morning and visiting family in the evening.

Why I wore it:

A maxi skirt is a great idea for playgroup with a baby and a toddler. You're comfortable for running around, playing on the ground and bending down constantly. However as I mentioned on Instagram, a white maxi skirt was not an ideal choice this time. We had a water play day due to the heat and the ground quickly got muddy. Wished I hadn't worn white!

Apart from regretting the choice of skirt for the day's events, I did like this outfit. I've worn this breastfeeding tank with a striped skirt before, and even paired this maxi skirt and tank together. I had a little browse of my archives the day before I wore this as I was so sure I'd worn this before. While I don't try to wear unique outfits all the time I will try a different accessory to be a little different.

A red bag is a lovely pop of colour against navy, and while I've worn a similar outfit before, it's the first time I've worn all of these pieces together and I really liked the result.

After Monday's too long top and Tuesday's too short top frustrating me a little, I went with a simple dress today. It got lots of compliments, as it is a very pretty dress. Even got told in one of my meetings that I looked cute which really made me smile :) Unfortunately, as it's a standard dress and not a maternity dress, I did feel myself tugging it back down as the elastic waistband rode up over the bump through the day, haha. Maybe a belt would have helped it stay in place better.

More lace! Wanting to feel feminine and pretty and so I've been going for lace it seems. This skirt is starting to be stretched beyond it's comfort zone now, although I'm hoping I can still get a few more wears out of it before baby arrives. For a non-maternity piece, it's made it through into the third trimester with me which is great. I had a lady come up to me at work today and ask how I was still managing to squeeze into this skirt with the baby belly - she was surprised the skirt had an elastic waist as she'd always assumed it was a normal zipper like most pencil skirts. All my zipper/button up pencil skirts are definitely unwearable now though!

With flowy/oversized tops, dresses and elasticated waist skirts, I'm pleased I'm managing to keep using my regular wardrobe as much as possible during pregnancy. Means spending less money on maternity clothes and more money on cute baby clothes ;)

Wearing Breastfeeding Clothes After You've Stopped Breastfeeding: Colourful Jeans and Blue Tops

Even though I'm no longer breastfeeding, I'm still happily wearing the maternity/nursing pieces I have in my wardrobe. The two blue tops below are perfect for breastfeeding. The blue tank is a specially designed nursing piece that I got while pregnant with Toddler T, and the wrap top is just a regular top I bought after Baby Boy was born. Both valuable pieces for breastfeeding, but also nice enough to wear afterwards!

Why I wore it:

Despite loving blue and purple together, this is the first time I've worn this navy tank with the purple skinny jeans. I really liked the combination and I'm surprised I haven't worn it before. Nice and simple outfit for a morning at playgroup and then running errands in the afternoon. The Converse were great for all the running around I did!

I'd forgotten that it was Superhero dress up day at daycare that week so I was that mum rushing around the stores in the afternoon trying to find super hero costumes! It seemed like everyone else had already done this a few days before as there were no little kids costumes to be found. Fortunately, a couple of masks and some superhero clothes the boys already had worked nicely for the day in the end.

The silicone teething necklace and the purple skinny jeans match beautifully together, so this was a good outfit for the 'matchy matchy' style challenge on Instagram.

It was nice to just wear a tank without a jacket - spring weather has been a little erratic lately but it's good to take advantage of warm days like this. The benefit of this tank and other specialised breastfeeding pieces that have hidden breastfeeding access is that you wouldn't know it was a breastfeeding top just by looking at it - definitely something that will stay in my wardrobe a long time!

Why I wore it:

Another breastfeeding friendly top, another pair of brightly coloured jeans. Unlike the tank above, this is just a regular wrap top that has the bonus of being perfect for breastfeeding in. And it's so soft and cosy. There might not be many more opportunities to wear it with our warmer spring weather having arrived, so it was good to get it out for another wear before I start to pack it and the rest of my winter things away.

Just like the outfit above, I was surprised to find that I hadn't worn this wrap top with the red skinny jeans before, and loved wearing them together. Again, I wore this to meet the day's style challenge on Instagram. This top was perfect for the 'wrap star' theme!

As I was wearing colourful clothes, I went with my usual fail-safe metallic silver accessories. This silver mini MAC bag goes with everything, as do the metallic bow detail ballet flats. They often get worn together!

You don't have to get rid of all your breastfeeding clothes once you're finished with breastfeeding! Specifically designed nursing tops with hidden access for breastfeeding look just like normal clothes and transition beautifully into your wardrobe for motherhood post-breastfeeding. Which is helpful at reducing cost per wear, considering they are usually quite expensive to buy!
And of course wrap tops, v-necks and button ups continue to work in your wardrobe just like they did before breastfeeding.

Michelle from Zibibo contacted me recently to congratulate me on my pregnancy and to offer me the chance to try out some of their maternity clothes. I ended up picking this bubble tank for work and a maxi dress for weekend wear. I honestly don't think I will be packing this top away even after baby arrives! As well as being a nursing tank, it's extremely comfortable, and I like the navy shade. It's definitely something I will be keeping and wearing long after baby grows. It's made from bamboo and cotton, so it's really soft.

When I placed the order at Zibibo, it arrived really quickly as they sent it express - a great shipping option for those feeling like they are running out of bump friendly things to wear! The packaging was beautiful also. Everything was wrapped in tissue paper, with a cute little sachet of popurri so the parcel smelt lovely. Even with my sensitive pregnancy sense of smell I liked it. And I've been so picky over smells I've given up on using all the previously wonderful scented candles I own!

The top is beautiful, the dress is gorgeous (look out for an upcoming post!), and the absolute best thing is that they included a little package of gourmet marshmallows with my order. I spent a lot of my first trimester craving after and stuffing my face with marshmallows, so they certainly know the way to a pregnant lady's heart! They were delicious. I always enjoy getting extra little surprises in parcels, don't you? Especially edible surprises!

Carrying my Balenciaga day bag again! 3 days in a row now. It's just such an easy and comfortable option, I haven't felt like changing it out for another bag. It's been a tough week so I've been gravitating towards blue accessories to cheer myself up a bit.

Perfect timing for this cute little pastel friendship bracelet from Seri Marea Jewellery to show up, it includes such a lovely shade of blue! Blue Tanks and Printed maxi Skirts With Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

While these outfits have very different colours in them, they both follow the same outfit formula of a blue block colour tank paired with a printed maxi skirt. Both of these printed skirts are such light choices for a hot summer day. And it was hot when I wore these, the week before Christmas.

Why I wore it:

When I saw this maxi skirt I knew I'd go the matchy-matchy route and wear it with my turquoise tank right away! I was out at the movies with my mum and sister when we had a walk around the shops and saw a sale on skirts and mum offered to buy us one each for Christmas. Was the perfect thing to wear a couple of days later when we went for our annual pre-Christmas shopping trip. We hit up the outlets on the coast and even though I didn't need to buy any more Christmas presents I picked up a couple extra things and we had a great time! Even if I do regret leaving a massively reduced bag behind and not buying it 😂

The studded sandals were an attempt to make my outfit more dressed up too, as I didn't expect to be doing any shopping for me....ended up unbuckling them many times, which was a bit of a pain as they have 3 buckles each. The sales assistant at Sass and Bide was quite concerned how much time I was taking trying on a single pair of jeans - we all laughed as I explained I'd gotten out of the jeans a long time ago I was just stuck buckling up my impractical shoes. Didn't get the jeans after all of that either! 😂

After shopping we went out for dinner so I decided to swap out the regular chain strap on the Rebecca Minkoff love bag for this blingy embellished bag strap. It's a fun combination and one I wear a lot.

Needed something simple for church before Christmas. We'd had a busy week before it so I went with this super comfortable red printed maxi skirt which is so nice on a hot day. I picked the navy tank as I felt like it had been a while since I last wore it. While it is a breastfeeding tank, I have kept it around in my wardrobe as I think the neutral navy goes with everything and it's a soft bamboo fabric, it's a dream to wear!

Stuck with the grey Rebecca Minkoff love bag I wore in the first outfit, but swapped to the regular chain strap that came with it to keep things simple. After church and grocery shopping it was a quiet afternoon and then watching a Christmas movie to ease us into the holidays!

A plain tank is an easy pairing with a printed maxi skirt. A basic block colour tank works well either matching or contrasting. You can pick a colour out of the print to wear on top and match like I have in the first outfit, or add a contrasting colour like I have in the second outfit.

Soft Pull On Shorts and Printed Kimonos With Rebecca Minkoff Bags

Again with two very similar outfit formulas, but different colour schemes! On hot and humid summer days these soft pull on shorts are the best, I'm surprised they haven't been worn as much this summer! It was nice wearing them on these wet but still hot days.

I just wish I could have worn different shoes, but these are the only shoes that make walking and driving bearable with my injured knee!

I recently wore those olive embroidered shorts with a navy tee, blue tie dye kimono and mustard yellow bag. I liked the colour combination so much I wanted to wear it again. I changed it up a little this time though, having the navy Rebecca Minkoff Regan satchel bag instead of the mustard one, and having the yellow kimono instead of a yellow bag. I wore this navy tank instead of the navy tee too, but wore the same turquoise tassel necklace.

Just as I did last time I wore these colours together, I really liked this outfit! It was a hot and humid day but thankfully the rain held off for the school drop off and pick up, and we were able to do all our errands at the closest shopping centre to enjoy the aircon and keep dry!

Why I wore it:

Another oh-so-comfortable and light pair of pull on shorts. These ones are black with a little white square print on them so I thought they would look great with the green duster kimono, with the white in the flower print. I really liked this combination.

Not as colourful as the outfit above, I stuck with a monochrome black outfit with the black tank and printed shorts, and a neutral grey Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag. I thought that the green floral duster was enough extra interest with the outfit, especially with the print mixing with the shorts.

Again with these New balance shoes which are pretty much a staple here now. Any time I have tried to walk too far without them my injured knee has been in so much pain!

On a hot and humid day a pair of neutral pull on soft shorts like these olive and black pairs are perfect - no fussing with zips or buttons and incredibly comfortable all day. To mix it up a little you can add a kimono on top for a touch of colour or print mixing.

Navy Tanks, Jeans and Kimonos

Wearing my favourite kimonos, trying a new outfit colour combination and an old favourite. And also sharing more about what happened when a bird flew into my house, as I mentioned in my Insta stories a few weeks ago.

Why I wore it:

This was set to be a busy day. My mother in law came over to watch the boys for a few hours. Before I hopped in the car, as I always do, I stopped for a minute to take photos. Like usual I left the house door open so the boys could watch me and know I was still nearby. Just as I'd taken my photos a flock of noisy miner birds flew overhead and I stood there amazed as one flew into the house through the open door.

Ran in to Toddler T excitedly telling me there had been a bird flying around the ceiling. Poor thing then flew into the window and fell....into Cooper's waiting jaws. Luckily he dropped the little guy on command, and I was able to wrap the injured bird up in a tee that was next to the window. Quickly put him in a cosy little box to rest, called the vet and was going to have just enough time to drop off the bird before racing to my appointment.

The little bird perked up on the way to the vets, was nice to hear him scrabbling around in the box. Was not so nice when I pulled up at the vets, turned off the ignition and he flew out of the box and around the car! After capturing him again and putting him in the box again (much harder this time with him flapping!) I took him into the vets. I'm fairly certain he has no wing damage from Cooper's teeth after he flew around the car, but the vet checked him over to confirm before releasing him. And I was only 5 minutes late for my first appointment of the day, phew!

Outfit wise I really liked the colour combination with the navy and burgundy and brown. I wasn't sure at first but decided to wear it anyway and try something different, and ended up loving this. It's been so long since I last carried this Chloe paddington bag too, brought it out after my bestie wore hers recently. Not a kid friendly bag with the heavy padlock, but nice for spending time without the boys.

Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey (on sale, 20% off!)

Why I wore it:

This is an outfit pic that got lost on my computer- it's from April! As you can probably tell by the sandals. Definitely not sandal weather now, winter has arrived in Brisbane.

To break up the monochrome outfit I added the pink Balenciaga sandals and the printed kimono. I love this grey kimono, it's got so many different colours in the print that it works nicely with so much of my wardrobe.

Unlike the outfit combination, I knew this colour combination would work as I've worn the navy tank and floral kimono together before.

This pic had gone unnoticed on my computer for a while as when I was wearing this outfit I took a picture for a Jeanswest competition on Instagram. Sadly I didn't win, but I did have fun taking over 20 photos as the boys ran around in circles! This outfit picture was in a big block of those photos and I hadn't gone through them to realise I still had an unposted blog picture. Glad I could share it now, as I really liked this outfit.

How You Can Wear It:

A navy tank is a great neutral basic that can be worn many ways in your wardrobe. If your outfit is feeling a little plain or monochromatic, add a printed kimono for some more colour and interest. Picking a similarly coloured kimono like in the first picture is a good fail-safe idea if you're playing with colours elsewhere in your outfit.
