Weekday Wear Link Up: Pink and Brown With Denim and Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

Two pink and brown outfits for today's Weekday Wear Link Up! I've noticed a lot of bloggers wearing brown recently and always think "I have so little brown in my wardrobe" but I actually have a few brown pieces! Seeing the colour around so much was the perfect excuse to get these brown tanks out again and remind myself why I shouldn't have forgotten about them!

Why I wore it:

More of a late autumn outfit than an end of summer outfit really, needing both jeans and a blazer! I wore this at the end of February, for a quiet Friday with the school run and working from home. With the downpour that started overnight the night before it was very cold and wet - jeans were a good choice and I added the blazer for warmth. Got absolutely drenched when dropping the kids off as school, but thankfully the blazer dried quickly, being made of rayon. With the rain continuing, we postponed some after school errands in favour of staying home and dry. Made some chocolate chip cookies to cheer us up with all the rain too. Hubby noted that water was starting to come over the roads on his way home.

Woke up the next morning to find out from our neighbour that the street was flooding. During one of our walks that weekend when the rain was lighter to check on the flood levels, we stumbled across a poor drenched and shivering little budgie under a bush! Little thing was so tired and scared, it let me pick it up and snuggled into my jumper. The next day, someone in the area was able to drive close enough to us that we could walk through the floods and give the budgie to him for more normal living arrangement in a proper bird cage (instead of the box we hastily constructed) until the owner could be found. Such a crazy weekend!

We ended up being flooded in for 3 days. We are so lucky our house stayed dry. We've been through floods before of course in other places, but after building this house just over 2 years ago it's never faced an extreme event like this before, and we've never had persistent floods since the boys were born. Lots of comparisons around here to Brisbane's 2011 floods, and lots of friends and neighbours who evacuated and so many many houses destroyed. If you want to, you can donate here to help.

Why I wore it:

What a difference a few days makes! When I put outfit photos together for a post I could have worn the outfits anywhere from a day to weeks apart. While I wore these outfits just 3 days apart it felt a lot longer. It was the first day we could actually drive away from our house! The school was still closed because of the flooding but after I finished work for the day we were able to drive out to the grocery store to get a few essentials that we had run out of while flooded in. And we made sure to return some very overdue library books we were supposed to take back on Friday. When it was raining too bad to drive there on Friday I had naively thought the weather would be better on Saturday to return them, but of course we were flooded in.

Since I loved the pink and brown combo above I repeated it again! With a black distressed denim skirt this time, a brown animal print tank, and a pink kimono as it was a hot day. It was nice to have the sunshine again, and to see most of the flooding in our suburb dried up.

While I really loved the first outfit and thought I'd love this as it's almost exactly the same outfit formula, I think this was missing something. I debated which necklace to wear for a little bit that morning and maybe a different more statement one would have looked better with this, or tucking the tank into my skirt more.

Kmart Culottes, Tanks and Beaded Necklaces with Edie Bag

Two incredibly similar outfit formulas, but two very different resulting outfits today! Neutral tank and pastel culottes in the first outfit for something a little muted, and a much brighter pink tank and navy printed culotte shorts in the second outfit. I love these Kmart soft culotte shorts so much. Wearing my Rebecca Minkoff Edie shoulder bag with both outfits as it works so well with any shade of blue and pairs nicely with both shorts!

What I wore:

silver tank with pastel printed culotte shorts sneakers edie shoulder bag and turquoise beaded statement necklace | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff Edie regular shoulder bag in Luna blue with pastel printed culottes | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: thrifted Eb&Ive turquoise wooden bead multi strand statement necklace
Tank: Jeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver
Shorts: thrifted Kmart pastel soft culotte shorts in floral print
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs howlite and hematite beaded bracelets
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie regular shoulder bag in Luna blue

Why I wore it:

I knew I had to get these shorts when I stumbled across them at the opshop - already having and loving the same soft culotte shorts from Kmart in a darker navy print (that I'm wearing in the second outfit below), I knew these ones would work in my summer wardrobe perfectly too!

This was such a good day for wearing such a light outfit as well - it was very hot and humid. Thankfully the storms didn't hit until the evening though. Had the school drop off, a quick errand to run, and then working from home before picking the kids up from school in the afternoon and filming a video for my YouTube channel that I've included below.

The metallic tank is a nice neutral so I knew it would work with the shorts, but I felt the outfit looked a little washed out when I tried it on - this thrifted wooden multi strand necklace definitely added a bit more colour! And of course the Rebecca Minkoff Edie shoulder bag in Luna blue complimented the pastel blue of the shorts nicely.

TankAsos satin singlet in pink
Shorts: Kmart culotte short in navy lemon print
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie regular shoulder bag in Luna blue

Why I wore it:

Another hot and humid day. I loved the bright colours in this outfit! Even though the bright pink of the satin tank doesn't match the pastel pink in the print of the culotte shorts I think they went together nicely. I really like this bright pink with navy too! I added a little extra navy with the beaded necklace, just like the necklace in the first outfit it was an opshop find as well! It was a nice bit of matchy-matchy with the navy shorts. The Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag doesn't match any of the shades of blue in this outfit, but like the outfit above again I felt it was the perfect accessory with the colours.

Comfortable New Balance sneakers as I had a little walk around my favourite trail after dropping the kids off at school, and before working from home for the rest of the day before school pick up in the afternoon, and then sports in the evening.

Last worn: pink satin tank, blue lozenge necklace, navy printed culotte shorts, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Edie shoulder bag in Luna blue (above).

Other ways to wearpink satin tank and jeans, navy printed culotte shorts and cardigan, Rebecca Minkoff Edie shoulder bag in Luna blue and denim skirt.

How You Can Wear It:

On hot and humid summer days, soft shorts like these blue printed culottes are perfect! Easily paired with a simple tank, you can add a big beaded necklace to help you feel a little more dressed up and pulled together despite the heat.
