White Band Tees, Blue Maxi Skirts and Purple Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAB Tote

Thank you all for your support and encouragement when I launched my first ebook on Monday! An extra big thank you to those who supported me by sharing the post or buying a copy even though they aren't pregnant. I really appreciate it, the book took me a while to write and edit and I was so excited to share with you. Shea was kind enough to say some lovely things about it in her latest post too!

Now, part two of the post I made last week, showing another two ways to wear graphic tees. This time around I'm wearing two of my Kisschasy band tees with maxi skirts. Something different from the usual graphic tee and jeans outfit, but just as easy to wear.

What I wore:

Kisschasy band tee chambray maxi skirt easy outfit purple mini MAB bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff purple mini MAB tote bag cross body | Away From The Blue
Tee: band tee from KissChasy "Bones and skin" tour
SkirtNoisy May long denim maxi skirt
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

Of all the Kisschasy band tees I have, this one has to be my favourite. Which is kind of funny as I missed most of the show on the Bones & Skin tour. The scary at the time (but funny afterwards) story of how we ended up spending most of the gig in a hospital waiting room will mean it's one of the more memorable shows despite only seeing a little part of it.

Wore this for a quiet Saturday running a few errands. The chambray maxi skirt is only slightly different from wearing this band tee with jeans, but I feel it's a very different look. Comfortable and perfect for a day running around with the boys. Also pleased how perfectly the graphic print lined up with the elasticated waist on the maxi skirt!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Kisschasy band tee, chambray maxi skirt, gold Havaianas, plum Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote.

Other ways to wearKisschasy band tee and leopard print jeans, chambray maxi skirt and stripes, plum Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote and denim shorts.

Why I wore it:

Another day, another Kisschasy band tee. This was actually the first graphic tee I got out of my wardrobe to wear after being inspired by Sheila's graphic tee outfit. I have only worn this tee a few times, as I got it when I went to the final Brisbane show before Kisschasy disbanded.

While this tee does look great with jeans (and I've worn in that way in the past) for something different I went with a trusty wardrobe staple, a maxi skirt. I wanted to be comfortable for a trip down the coast to spend some time with my parents, and this was the perfect outfit for that.

How You Can Wear It:

You don't need to leave all your old concert or band tees to gather dust in your wardrobe! Try pairing them with a maxi skirt for a different look. This works well with any graphic tee you'd usually just pair with jeans, but is just as easy and comfortable to wear.

Making Maxi Skirts Work in Autumn & Rebecca Minkoff Online Sample Sale

First, the Rebecca Minkoff online sample sale is on now! Your chance to score bags, clothes and accessories at 70% off! A nice Mother's Day gift for yourself ;) Hope you have a happy Mother's Day this weekend.

I wear my maxi skirts year-round, no matter the season. It's Autumn in Brisbane so I'm starting to change my outfits just a little as it starts to get cooler. Layering up pieces that no longer warm enough to wear on their own and wearing one of my thicker maxi skirts.

What I wore:

metallic shimmer foil tank aztec print maxi skirt silicone necklace grey bag autumn outfit | Away From Blue

Aztec print maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff soft grey MAM bag on arm | Away From The Blue
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
TankFrench Connection feather foil singlet
Skirt: Izabel London Aztec print maxi skirt (C/O)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this printed maxi skirt it was a little too warm! So it was nice to wear it on this autumn day, it wasn't as hot and so it was a much better choice. We had a quiet day, went for a family picnic. It wasn't an overly sunny day which was perfect for sitting by the water.

I've worn this maxi skirt with a metallic tank before, I like the combination. It's a simple difference from a plain, block colour tank, but the metallic shimmer is a nice extra bit of interest for an outfit. It works great with the printed skirt without being overpowering too!

Did think that all the black was a bit dull for a family picnic, so added the bright teething necklace for a little bit of colour.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, metallic tank, printed maxi skirt, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag.

Other ways to wearmetallic tank and lace skirt, printed maxi skirt layered for winter, Rebecca Minkoff MAM bag and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancy: printed maxi skirt in the second trimester.

Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklace
Dress (worn as top)Atmos & Here Willow printed tee dress
SkirtJeanswest Luxe maxi jersey skirt
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

I adore this tee dress. Yes, it's a dress under a maxi skirt! I find it too short now to wear when running around with two toddlers under 3, and I've always liked layering it under skirts in the past. When I bought this dress I'd been trying to decide between it and a tee in the same print and I figured if I got the dress I could wear it like a tee too!

Was a busy day with swimming lessons and grocery shopping. In hindsight the long maxi skirt was probably not the best choice - it got wet quickly at the pool! I did like this outfit, just maybe shouldn't have worn it to swim lessons.

Although this is another black maxi skirt, unlike the outfit above it's much more colourful with the colourful dress layered underneath and the yellow handbag.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), willow printed dress worn as top, luxe maxi skirt, gold Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.

Other ways to wearprinted tee dress with Converse, drawstring waist maxi skirt worn two ways, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag and denim shorts.

Perfect for Pregnancy: tee dress in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Maxi skirts are easy to wear year round. Try warmer fabrics or layering a little more to easily take a summer staple piece into autumn too. The autumn outfits above work just as well for spring!

Grey V-Neck Tees and Striped Maxi Skirts | #6MonthsWithoutShopping Update 4

Four months completed of #6MonthsWithoutShopping has meant I've had those days where I'm completely uninspired and don't know what to wear. When that happens I try to find something I haven't worn in a while, like these grey tees. To stay away from the blue denim rut, I picked striped maxi skirts to wear with them rather than jeans.

I'm just as surprised as you are that I still haven't bought any clothes or accessories for 4 months! I have been doing something else with those rare moments I get to myself where I'd usually shop, so will be sharing more about that soon. I'm pleased I'm doing so well with the challenge though, 2 months to go!

What I wore:

Oscar's Law Grey v neck tee, black white stripe maxi skirt, yellow micro Regan bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold, stripe maxi skirt | Away From The Blue
Sunnies: Ray-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklace
TeeOscar's Law 'Break the puppy trade' tee
Skirt: Target black and white striped maxi skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold
Nails: OPI Russian Navy

Why I wore it:

Not the first time I've worn this tee with a striped maxi skirt, I really like the combination. It was a quiet day when I wore this, just going to Baby Boy's weekly weigh appointment.

I felt that the grey tee and black and white maxi skirt were a bit dull so added some bright accessories with the teething necklace and yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.

The text on the tee reads "Break the puppy trade and don't buy the lie" and it supports Oscar's Law. If you're a return visitor to the blog you'll have seen the banner on the right and know it's a cause I support. Don't buy puppies from pet shops!

Other ways to wearOscar's Law tee and jeans, black and white striped maxi skirt worn 30 ways, studded sandals and chambray, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag and spring layers.

Why I wore it:

I wore this grey tee and striped maxi skirt outfit to spend the day with my sister. Just like the outfit above, I picked exactly the same accessories to add more colour to the outfit. I think grey and yellow is a nice colour combination so the yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag was again the perfect choice.

This grey tee hasn't been worn for a while either! Last time I wore it (over 6 months ago) I wore it with a plain maxi skirt, and the same accesories. The plain grey tee is a great backdrop for a bright necklace or bag. It's one of my favourites too, although I do wear it sparingly and this is only it's 12th wear in the 3 and a half years since I bought it! I want to be sure it will last and not overwear it to pieces.

How You Can Wear It:

Maxi skirts are a great alternative to jeans that allow you to stay away from the blue denim mummy style rult! They provide the same coverage and are just as comfortable to wear when running around after a toddler (or in my case, two!). A striped maxi skirt and grey tee is an easy outfit for those 'I don't know what to wear' days.

Neon Pink Mini MAC Bag With Neutral and Colourful Maxi Skirt Outfits

My less-than-perfect hair in both of these outfits was due to me trying to come up with a new no-heat method for curling my hair before baby boy's birthday party. I'm growing my hair out to donate it, and so my usual go-to trick wasn't really working on my thick layer-less hair. I tried a couple different methods instead.

I really liked the outfits though, despite not liking my hair! Stripes and maxi skirts with a bright and colourful bag is an outfit formula I'll always return to.

What I wore:

SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
TankJeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
SkirtJeanswest Luxe maxi jersey skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC (on sale!)
NailsOPI Rich Girls and Po Boys

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit. Last time I wore this skirt with a striped tank I wasn't so impressed with the result, but these pieces together I loved. The only thing I didn't like about this outfit was when I stood in a puddle and got the hem of my maxi skirt wet! Until that point, it had been a good outfit to wear when having some work done on the house and then running a few errands.

This neon pink mini MAC bag is a great pop of colour against the black and white, especially when paired with the colourful teething necklace. I've worn the bright accessories with striped maxi skirt outfits before too, in this post.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, striped tank, drawstring waist maxi skirt, Havaianas, neon pink mini MAC bag.

Other ways to wearstriped tank and print mixing, drawstring waist maxi skirt worn two ways, neon pink mini MAC bag and jeans.

Why I wore it:

Luckily I managed to avoid the puddles when I wore this! This was a nice easy outfit, perfect for Baby Boy's weekly weigh and then spending time with my mum and sister in the afternoon.

As I liked the accessories in the outfit above, I wore them together again the next day with this similar outfit. Unlike the first outfit, this one was a little more colourful with the blue and purple accessorised with pink. The purple tank and navy skirt have been worn together before too. That last time I picked a neutral bag instead.

I have a few colourful bags and while my favourite way to wear them will always be as a single pop of colour against a neutral outfit, sometimes it's nice to try wearing something more colourful. I'm trying to be more adventurous with colours in my wardrobe and wear different combinations.

How You Can Wear It:

A brightly coloured handbag can be worn just as much as a neutral one. If you're not sure how to wear it, you can't go wrong letting the bag be a single pop of colour against a monochrome or neutral outfit. You can be bolder and wear it with a brightly coloured outfit too - stick to colour combinations you often wear and you'll find a bright bag is an easy addition.

Maxi Skirts and Prints: Stripes and Leopard

I'm a fan of print mixing and I've worn stripes and leopard print together many times before. Sometimes it's just nice to let a print shine on it's own though, and wear a single printed piece with a plain basic, like I did with these maxi skirt outfits. Both outfits I wore with my Rebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush, a great neutral shoe!

What I wore:

BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey
NailsOPI Rich Girls and Po Boys

Why I wore it:

I've worn this metallic tank with a printed maxi skirt and a striped maxi skirt before, but it's the first time I've worn these two together. I'm quite surprised I haven't worn them together before, it's a great combination. I've not worn this tank as much as I thought I had! I bought it in November before my #6MonthsWithoutShopping started, and this is only it's 5th wear in the 5 months I've had it. Actually paying more attention to the number of times I've worn things and not just seeing how long it is between wears has been an eye opener. It's helping me avoid shopping and stick to the challenge, as I know I won't wear new things I buy that much. I already have an overflowing wardrobe!

This was a casual and comfortable outfit, perfect for taking Baby Boy for his weekly weigh and spending time with my mum and sister in the afternoon.

Why I wore it:

Had a quietish day with the boys, a couple of errands to run including stopping at the post office to mail some more parcels from my ebay auctions.

Almost every time I wear this tee I comment how long it's been between wears, so I'm making more of an effort to wear it. The neon tee and the grey maxi skirt is a combination I actually wanted to wear in pregnancy. I liked this yellow, orange and grey combination and wanted to try it with the leopard print rather than the stripes. Unfortunately while a loose fit, the tee is slightly cropped so it's not ideal for pregnancy wear with a baby bump making it ride up!

I'm glad I remembered to give the combination a try now I'm not pregnant, I really liked this. Grey is a great base to pair with such a brightly printed tee.

Chambray and Pink: Different Shades and Lengths with Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

I've shared many times about my love for blue and pink together. I like wearing pink with denim, so when I wore two of my chambray pieces recently I paired them with two different shades of pink. A maxi skirt with a magenta pink tank and a dress with a dusty pink vest.

What I wore:

Sass & Bide neon tank chambray noisy may denim maxi skirt teething necklace outfit | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey | Away From The Blue
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
TopSass and Bide 'Musical Genius' tank (similar, at 40% off!)
SkirtNoisy May long denim maxi skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

Why I wore it:

Pulled this together at the last minute to go out for dinner with the in-laws. The style challenge for the day was 'denim your way', this chambray maxi skirt was brilliant as although it was evening it was still too warm for jeans or a denim jacket.

I wasn't sure what necklace to wear with this - the tank has magenta and neon orange with the neutrals, but I knew as we'd be going out to a restaurant I'd need a few tricks to keep Baby Boy amused. As suspected, the necklace came in handy as he could play and fling it around without it actually going on the floor, unlike some of his other toys.... When trying on a few of the teething necklaces I have I was pleased to see how well this necklace matched the pink on the tank, I'm sure to wear this combination again!

Not the first time I've worn this chambray maxi skirt with magenta pink either!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Sass & Bide tank, chambray maxi skirt, two tone sandals, Rebecca Minkoff quilted love bag.

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'layer player' but despite it being autumn, it was much too hot to think about layering. This sleeveless jacket is a good layering piece for hot days.

I was inspired to try this by seeing vests and dresses worn together on a few different blogs. I wasn't sure how this vest would work with the dress, so picked a quiet day to try it. Although I like the colour combination I wasn't sure how the shapes would work together. A quiet day running errands was good to give the new silhouette a try. Although not quite an outfit fail, I liked the idea of this outfit better than the actual resulting outfit. Blue and pink is a good colour combination, but these two pieces together weren't my favourite.

Try pairing your chambray with something pink. You can wear it with a little like a printed tank with only a small percentage of pink, or go all out and wear a pink vest or jacket with it. A pink scarf would be nice with chambray in cooler weather too.

#30Wears: Striped Maxi Skirt Black and White Jersey

Honestly, I had no idea wearing things in my wardrobe 30 times would be so difficult! When I first heard about the challenge (in The True Cost movie) I thought I'd have a few pieces I'd achieved it with. As I take a photo of what I wear every day, I had my blog archives to look through and was surprised how little even some of my favourite pieces are actually worn.
I thought attempting 6 months without shopping would give me time to wear and enjoy what's in my wardrobe and rack up 30 wears. But if I want to get 30 wears of something in these 6 months, that's wearing something 5 times a month on average. That's more than once a week.

Since I own much more than a week's worth of outfits wearing things 30 times isn't often achieved. There are a few pieces I've already clocked up 30 wears of, but they are mainly accessories. Even my most worn kimono has only got 20 wears so far! I thought I'd be able to feature it in this post until I saw that count. Wearing everything you own 30 times sounded like a bit of a challenge, but I didn't realise just how difficult it would be for someone like me with such a large wardrobe.

I'd really like to show something other than an accessory or a maxi skirt in this 30 wears series soon, but as I'm challenging myself to find something every month to share, it means that this month it's going to be another maxi skirt. A printed one at least, so a little different from the plain one I featured previously.

30 ways to wear a black and white striped maxi skirt | Away From The Blue Blog #30Wears

#30Wears: Target Black and White Striped Jersey Maxi Skirt

I've worn this maxi skirt 44 times, so it was difficult narrowing down to just 30 outfits! I really like this skirt. Purchased it while pregnant with (now Toddler) T as I wanted something stretchy and comfortable. I'm amazed I'm still loving and wearing it over 3 years later, and to have gotten through another pregnancy with it. There is no sign of wear on it either, still as stretchy and comfortable as ever so it will be worn a lot more in the future.

Striped Maxi Skirt in a Monochrome Outfit

A classic black and white maxi skirt makes an easy monochrome outfit. You can pair it with white, grey or black and not worry about looking boring as the stripe print adds an extra bit of interest to the outfit.

4 Monochrome Outfit ideas with black and white striped maxi skirt | AwayFromTheBlue

Black and White Striped Maxi Skirt with Colourful Tops

A colourful tee or tank really pops against a black and white base. You can go bright with blue or purple or stick with another neutral like olive.

Striped Maxi Skirt and Scarves

I like to wear my maxi skirts year round, and when the weather cools a little a scarf is a great addition to a maxi skirt outfit to keep you cosy in autumn or spring. You can even do a little pattern mixing with a printed scarf. Stripes are so easy to pair with other prints.

Black and White Striped Maxi Skirt in Winter

While you do need to do a little more layering and perhaps wear boots, I've never had any issues wearing my maxi skirts in winter. Of course we don't get snow in Brisbane which helps!

Striped Maxi Skirt in Pregnancy: Second Trimester

I originally bought this maxi skirt in pregnancy when I was looking for something that would fit a growing baby bump. It was affordable, comfortable and stretchy. I had no idea I'd love and wear it so much that it would be worn through two pregnancies and beyond!

Second trimester comfy outfit ideas striped maxi skirt | AwayFromBlue

Striped Maxi Skirt in Pregnancy: Third Trimester

In the third trimester you outgrow a lot of the non-maternity pieces in your wardrobe that worked in the first and second trimesters. I ended up making a pregnancy capsule wardrobe last time with pieces I knew would fit and wore that for the final trimester. Luckily the elastic waist on this maxi skirt comfortably accommodated a growing bump. In fact it was the last thing I wore before Toddler T made his overdue appearance into the world.

Jersey Stripe Maxi Skirt in PostPartum Days

The stretchy waistband that made this skirt so good during pregnancy also makes it a perfect choice in the early post-partum days where your stomach changes daily and you need something quick and easy to wear as it's going to get covered in baby spit up anyway! Paired with a oversized tee or a cosy soft knit it's a comfortable outfit option to help you feel pulled together on little sleep.

Postpartum style: easy maxi skirt comfortable outfit | Away From Blue

You'll know from reading my blog that I obviously have a bit of a maxi skirt obsession, but I think this post illustrates quite well why I adore them so much. You can wear them so many different ways.

I think I bought this for $20 (or something close to that), so at 44 wears that's 45 cents a wear, for those who like to calculate cost per wear. Not bad for an impulsive pregnancy purchase over 3 years ago!
