Looking at the pictures below I think they do look slightly different, or that's what I'll tell myself to justify buying a replacement piece for something that isn't completely worn out yet... 😅
What I wore:
Sunglasses: Ray-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklaceTank: Target embroidered khaki tank
Skirt: Jeanswest plain jersey black maxi skirt
Shoes: Wittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bag: Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
Why I wore it:
Wore this for a quiet day last month, hitting a few style challenges. Before the in-laws came over I took Baby Boy for his weekly weigh in the morning and stopped at the post office to pick up my last online clothes order for 6 months. Although I ended up returning most of it I really liked one of the wrap dresses I ordered. I've already worn it here.Sometimes I find voluminous tops tricky to wear with maxi skirts, but I really liked this outfit. I was comfortable and cool all day in this. A khaki embroidered tank wasn't even something I'd been thinking about buying, this was an impulse buy, but I am so glad I bought it. $10 well spent! Even if I've not loved every outfit it's been worn in... loose over a little mum-tum, a neutral colour and so so soft. Definitely a winning top!
Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, khaki embroidered tank, black maxi skirt, studded sandals, Louis Vuitton speedy Bandouliere.
Other ways to wear: khaki embroidered tank and stripes, black maxi skirt in winter, studded sandals and pink vest, Louis Vuitton speedy Bandouliere and denim shorts.
More black maxi skirts under $50:
What I wore:
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklace
Tank: Sass and Bide 'Musical Genius' tankSkirt: Jeanswest Luxe maxi jersey skirt
Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs pearl, howlite and hematite beaded bracelets
Bag: Balenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag
Why I wore it:
Since I liked the relaxed tank and black maxi skirt outfit above I tried to recreate it again with different pieces. Again it met a few style challenges. While I do love the tank and the skirt on their own, I wasn't really liking this combination. Comfortable for a playdate at home at least. With the crazy heatwaves this summer most people with kids are hiding out at home in the air conditioning so that means more playdates and rotating around everyone's houses!Wearing a couple of new things - my pastel blue mani from the OPI Breakfast at Tiffany collection set that I got at Christmas which you sadly can't see in the pics. I'm also wearing some beautiful bracelets from Roie Designs. My talented friend designs and makes her own jewelry and I thought these pearl, howlite and hematite bracelets worked so nicely with my everyday bracelet stack. When I have a curious baby that spends a lot of time in my arms I tend to keep my jewelry to the basics! It was nice to wear something a little different just to change things up a bit, even if they did attract a little attention from Baby Boy.
Last worn: Sass & Bide Neon tank, drawstring maxi skirt, Havaianas, Balenciaga brown Day bag.
Other ways to wear: Sass & Bide Neon tank and shorts, drawstring maxi skirt and plain tank, Balenciaga brown Day bag for a weekend trip.

I struggle with th silhouette and maxi skirts a lot after having two kids. Before that I used to always wear them with fitted tanks, but somedays I dont really feel comfortable in this combination. When summer comes I will try and pair them with a loose top like this.

Yes accepting my stomach in fitted tanks took a little bit of encouragement - wrapping the post baby mum-tum up in that makes it look like a baby bump. I struggled with it a little. Wrote a post on it actually, I'm back to wearing my fitted tanks again! http://awayfromtheblue.blogspot.com/2017/01/fitted-tanks-post-baby-and-mum-tum-with.html
DeleteGreat looks. I like both of them.

A black maxi skirt is something my closet needs. You wear yours all the time so for non-working days as a busy mum, I think they are incredible. Once again I love that rainbow necklace. =)
ReplyDeleteYes I think maxi skirts are perfect for SAHM days! :)
DeleteI love maxi shirts on other people but don't feel comfortable in them myself. I think they are adorable though. And I love how you've styled both looks!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, some voluminous tops are difficult to wear but I think you were able to pull it off Mica. My fave is the second.
ReplyDeleteYes they can be a bit hit-or-miss sometimes! My favourite outfit is actually the first! :)
DeleteI have two black maxis and you've just given me two great ideas on how to style them this spring/summer! Great looks (as usual)! :]

Glad I could give you some styling ideas! :)
DeleteI really like that second outfit. The top has great colors and that maxi looks fab on you!

The two skirts are deffo different, and you styled them both so beautifully! For ten dollars, that little tank top is gorgeous and it looks a lot more expensive than that! Thanks for sharing, lovely. <3 xoxo

It was such a bargain buy!
DeleteYou are totally justified in buying another black maxi skirt!
ReplyDeleteYour LV looks gorgeous as always! Loving your necklace too, that's beautiful! Happy Thursday, Mica!

The skirts definitely have their differences, and I think it's a good idea to have a back up of your favorite piece.

I really like the second outfit and the way the tank half tucks into your maxi so nicely! I think the silhouette is really flattering! The looser top in the first outfit drapes so well too! Great outfits!
ReplyDeleteGreat maxi looks! I have gotten more into those since they first became popular.

That's some lovely picks! Have an awesome week, dear! xoxo
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have a backup of your favorite piece. Both of these outfits are so cute! Love the draping of the first top!

Love your new black skirt. Black & white clothing items have to be changed out ever so often because they can get faded. Love the top over the skirt. What a great idea! You look great Mica.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.averysweetblog.com/
Yes I'm surprised the first skirt is still going so well and is fade-free! It's starting to get a little pilled though so might not last forever.
DeleteNow that I am thinking about it, I don't think I own a black maxi skirt... with the warm weather approaching us (hopefully sooner than later) it's time to consider getting one. I love that you wear your child's teething rings as a necklace!!

You are always such an inspiration when it comes to styling maxi skirts, Mica. The second, colorful tank is such an eye-catching piece and brightens up your black wonderfully. Best of luck on your shopping hiatus. Thanks so much for linking up with Fabulous Friday! Also, I am currently looking for co-hosts, so I hope you will consider the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for considering me - I'll need to try get myself more organised blog-wise and I can send you an email about co-hosting :)
DeleteAnother item on my must buy for summer list: relaxed tanks! I think having two black maxi's is fine because that way they take turns and it's longer before one is worn out, right? (; Black can be a hard color to keep with the fading and what not, so there's another justification! haha
ReplyDeletehaha yes, although that was my justification for getting just 2 designer bags and we all know how many I ended up with ;)
DeleteThank you all for your comments - and indulging in my "need" to have two black maxi skirts, haha!
