Button Up Shirts and Denim Shorts

Happy International Women's Day! If you were able to, I hope you supported #DayWithoutAWoman in some way.

Onto my regular outfit post. While I really liked the way both of these outfits looked, I didn't enjoy wearing them so much. Shorts and a long sleeved top is a combination I really like wearing, and button up (or button down) shirts are perfect for breastfeeding. A Queensland summer heatwave is probably not a good time to wear such warm pieces though! Poor judgement on my part!

What I wore:

Jeanswest 'Ruby' mixed print shirt, denim short shorts, red saddle bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red | Away From The Blue
ShortsJeanswest denim cuff shorts
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

I deliberately picked out this warmer top to wear on a hot day as the morning was spent with appointments and more tests for baby boy. Needed something I could easily breastfeed in that would keep me warm in the freezing aircon. It was a good idea to cope with all the airconditioned buildings we were in, but it was so insanely hot getting out the car to walk into a building that I was regretting my outfit choice a little! I also forgot to add a teething necklace on the way out the door.

It's not the first time I've worn this printed shirt this red bag, I really like the pop of colour it gives. Despite overheating a little when I stepped outside in this, I really did love this outfit and I'm keeping it in mind for whenever the cooler autumn weather decides to arrive.

Why I wore it:

You can see how old these pics are as Cooper's still all fluffy! 😂 I liked this shirt worn untucked with shorts here better than I did when I wore it last time tucked in. While it was a warm day I was eager to wear this shirt again. When the power cut at home and there wasn't any more aircon I was again regretting my decision to wear such a warm top on such a hot day. Luckily we didn't spend much time at home as we were going to stay down the cost with my parents for a few days. They had fully functional air conditioning thankfully, just what you need for a heatwave.

As it's the second time I've worn this shirt, my purchase review:

I bought this shirt back in the Jeanswest sale in November, but didn't get to wear it much over December with baby boy's hospital stay. I figured it would be one of those pieces I could wear for both office wear and SAHM life. It really hasn't been worn often though.

I do think it's a nice shirt, and I'm glad I bought it, but it really won't get worn much until the weather cools off. I did order a trench coat in that Cyber Monday sale that I've kept and still haven't worn though, so managing to wear this shirt twice isn't too bad! I am looking forward to wearing this again, when it's not so hot.

Metallic Tanks, Maxi Skirts and Red Rebecca Minkoff Unlined Saddle Bag

Doing #6MonthsWithoutShopping means I've been enjoying wearing more of my wardrobe and rediscovering older pieces. I recently found this black foil metallic tank and since I liked wearing it so much, I wore the same outfit the formula the next day with my silver metallic tank.

What I wore:

monochrome black and grey metallic tank maxi skirt outfit with red pop of colour saddle bag | Away From Blue

silver and pearl Tiffany and Roie Designs bracelet stack studded red saddle bag | Away From The Blue
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklace
TankFrench Connection feather foil singlet
Skirt: Target grey marle maxi skirt
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus two Roie Designs pearl on leather adjustable bracelets
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

I wore this tank when I created my first ever post on the blog, where you can see the metallic shimmer better as I used the flash on the camera. In six years it's only been worn four times. Last time was two years ago! I uncovered it in my wardrobe and was surprised (but glad) that I still had it.

I wore this for a casual day, taking the boys to playgroup. Previously I'd seen this tank as one of those 'special' pieces where you want to 'save' it for a perfect occasion. With no new clothes coming into my wardrobe for 6 months as I do my no shopping challenge, it's given me a good reason to enjoy more of what I own instead of waiting for a perfect time that never seems to come up. I've already worn this tank again recently!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, black foil tank, grey maxi skirt, studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff red saddle bag.

Other ways to wearblack foil tank and metallic skirt, grey maxi skirt and denim jacket, studded sandals and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff red saddle bag and floral print.

BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

I loved the simplicity of the first outfit with the metallic tank, comfy maxi skirt and bright red cross body bag for a touch of colour. Happily recreated it again the very next day with a different tank and skirt. Went to my local Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) mothers group with the boys.

Baby Boy is getting older now and it's easier to get out and back home between feeds. I'm still sticking to mostly breastfeeding friendly outfits like this though, just in case, and that came in helpful! About halfway through the meeting he wanted a feed and I hadn't brought a bottle with us as I didn't expect him to be hungry. It was good I was wearing something that let me easily breastfeed him. I didn't have anything to use as a breastfeeding cover which I would have preferred, but the great thing about the ABA is the mums are incredibly supportive no matter how you feed your baby. Covered, uncovered, bottle of expressed milk, bottle of formula, SNS, they've seen it all. I'm glad to have connected with them!

Other ways to wearmetallic silver tank worn two ways, striped maxi skirt in winterstudded sandals and denim shorts, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag and shirt dress.

Metallic tanks are just as easy to wear as plain tanks. You can dress them up or you can wear them casually with maxi skirts like I have here.

Heatwave Style: Printed Tanks, Denim Shorts and Cross Body Bags

I usually try space out my posts a little better but I have been wearing a lot of denim lately so you get a week of denim posts! After the denim maxi and denim shorts posts, yet another denim shorts post. With the warmer than average summer temperatures it's been a little difficult getting inspired to try something other than shorts...

While the printed tanks I'm wearing below are polyester which is not usually the first choice on a hot day, they are a relaxed enough fit that they catch any breeze nicely and actually feel quite cool. I like how a printed tank instantly makes an outfit a little more interesting than if I'd worn a plain basic tank.

What I wore:

printed crochet tank Jeanswest Trinity bermuda denim shorts LV Speedy bag | Away From Blue

Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere | Away From The Blue
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace
Tank: Emerson crochet lace bib print top
ShortsJeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts (currently on sale!)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit, simple and perfect for a very hot day outdoors. We'd been planning a trip out to the Ipswich rail museum for a little while so when the perfect day came up we were really excited. The crazy heatwave was not ideal...Ipswich is inland and usually a few degrees hotter than the bayside suburbs of Brisbane. We went anyway, took lots of water and spent a little more time in the air conditioned exhibits.

This crossbody bag was perfect for keeping everyone's water bottle nearby. While I keep the baby bag on the stroller, toddler T was so excited exploring that he rarely stayed near the stroller long enough to get a drink! We're already talking about another visit, probably when summer's over.

Why I wore it:

Another too-hot summer day, another printed tank and shorts outfit. Both the tank and shorts are things I'd considered letting go out of my wardrobe. I worried I had too many pairs of shorts, and this tank annoyed me last time I wore it.

I liked this outfit so much that all the pieces are staying. Although I was just running a few errands, I felt this was just the perfect outfit. The printed tank and red bag combo is one I've worn before, it's wonderful whenever I try it. As things are starting to settle down post-baby the tank sat a lot better this time than it did with my fourth trimester body. I'm glad I didn't get rid of it when I disliked it so much previously.

Seeing so many people out in similar shorts made me convinced to keep these ones. Sometimes you just need a pair of short shorts as everything else seems like too much in the heat! As I wear more blue, I'm keeping this blue pair and selling my very similar black pair instead.

Printed tank and denim shorts is such a simple outfit combination, but so effortless and useful for feeling cool on a hot day.

Floral Kimonos, Navy Tanks and Denim Shorts

This is my one thousandth post! 😱 1,000 outfit posts, 1,584 outfits! It's just like every other post as it suck up on me with all the Christmas prep, but when I hit my 5 year blogaversary in January I'll have something special for my followers to mark the occasion 😉 Thank you for reading along! 💙

Spring is such a great time to wear kimonos. I have a few of them now. The majority of them are blue of course, since it's my favourite colour! The two below are both navy and floral print but even worn with navy tanks and denim shorts they look quite different. I mentioned when I first got the second one that I already had a similar one, it was good to do a side by side post and see how different they are.

What I wore:

Navy tank denim shorts floral cocoon kimono neon pink mini MAC bag spring OOTD | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC | Away From The Blue
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace
Tank: Kmart navy ribbed tank
Shorts: Jeanswest denim cuff shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

The first time I wore this tank it was a little layered up as it was a cooler day, but when I bought it I had outfits like this in mind. The tank, shorts and kimono combo was one I wore a lot last spring/summer, only with maternity pieces. This is basically the non-maternity version of this outfit! I like the combination of the neon pink bag with the print on the kimono, I've worn them together before. Wore this out to run a couple of errands and take Baby Boy for his weekly weigh.

This is the second time I've worn this tank and I'm reviewing everything I buy after I wear it twice in the month I buy it. I've written more about why I do this here, but it's basically to make me think more critically about my purchases and make sure I'm adding sensible choices to my wardrobe.

My purchase review:
I really like this tank! A great basic, for $3 you can't go wrong, and I didn't have a plain navy tank like this in my wardrobe. I am a little annoyed I've seen some other colours of this on sale in Kmart recently for even less...ha! But overall I'm pleased with this purchase, I know it will gt a lot more wear and I don't have any concerns with the quality even with the low price.

Other ways to wear: kimono and jeans in autumn, navy tank and cosy layers, denim shorts and ankle boots, neon pink mini MAC and flares.

BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this out for a big day of Christmas shopping that I mentioned previously. While I was out to buy some specific gifts, I also had a few stores I wanted to check out myself and take advantage of having someone watch the boys while I was trying clothes on. This was a simple and easy outfit for a day of shopping, and it was easy to try things on too. Managed to get a new pair of shorts, one of the items off my wardrobe wishlist.

I've mentioned before that a kimono is great for using as a breastfeeding cover. I ended up having to use this kimono to throw over the stroller for baby boy at nap time as well as I'd forgotten to pack a blanket. Kimonos really ares such versatile pieces!

Last worn: floral kimono, navy breastfeeding tank, printed denim shorts, gold Havaianas, red saddle bag.

Dresses, Ankle Boots and Rebecca Minkoff Cross Body Bags

Dresses and ankle boots will always be a favourite outfit for spring. It's the perfect weather for bare legs and boots. I haven't worn the outfit combination much this year though, as I've been preferring separates that are easier to breastfeed in, and relying heavily on easy denim outfits. Although not all of my dresses are breastfeeding friendly, the ones below are as they have buttons.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

This was a quiet day. Spent time with my mum in the afternoon, and in the morning I had a couple of errands to run as well as baby boy's weekly weigh. I went with a pretty blue outfit, again to try boost my confidence a little for the weigh in session! I'm at that point in my maternity leave where dresses are starting to feel a bit too much like 'special occasion' pieces, so it's nice to get them out even if the day doesn't call for being dressed up. I want to wear more of my wardrobe and not just the same few things over and over!

Why I wore it:

I picked this dress out to wear again, it's been a while and I had been looking forward to wearing it with bare legs in warmer weather when I bought it. With ankle boots of course, and then the red bag seemed nice with the red print on the dress. This was a simple and easy outfit for a boring morning at the accountants and shopping for groceries. Again, like the outfit above, I did feel a little overdressed for the occasion. It was nice to wear this dress without all the winter layers though.

I was starting to run a little late for the appointment at the accountants when I noticed the lighting was perfect for photos - cloudy but bright. I was hurrying to setup and take a quick shot before I left, and was unimpressed when the sun popped out just as I snapped a picture! There was no time to reposition the camera into the shade before I hopped in the car so this squinting into the sudden sunlight shot is the best I got, haha! Should have just pulled my sunnies off my head...

Neutral Outfits with a Red Rebecca Minkoff Cross Body Saddle Bag: Printed Dress and Flared Jeans

While I do like wearing this little red bag with other red accessories, it's nice to pair it with neutral outfits like the ones below and really let the colour pop. The saddle bag style looks just as good with a dress as it does with jeans.

What I wore:

Jeanswest Nikki printed shirt dress ankle boots red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag | Away From Blue

ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
DressJeanswest Nikki printed shirt dress
ShoesRMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

I was in a bit of a rush in the morning trying to get everyone ready for playgroup and hadn't really thought about what I wanted to wear. Decided on this printed dress as it's a quick instant outfit, and it's been a while since I last wore it. Although it is still winter it was a little warmer so I could go without a jacket, which was nice. I enjoyed sitting in the sun at playgroup feeding baby, using his muslin wrap as a feeding cover as I didn't quite think things through and realise this scarf was too small to use for that until the last minute.

While this dress actually has a little pink in the print, it blends well and looks like a neutral so the red bag was a fun pop against it.

Why I wore it:

Had a busy morning - I optimistically thought I could make an appointment, run errands and go grocery shopping while also making it to the library for rhyme time. Of course we were too late for the library, I misjudged how long it would take to find the special ingredients I was grocery shopping for and I got home with a very cranky baby. It was just one of those days where you can't see all the things you did achieve because you focus on everything that went wrong.

After a morning like that it was nice to catch up with my mum in the afternoon and she complimented my top too. It made me smile. I really do like this top, and this was a nice outfit, just not the best day. It definitely turned around in the afternoon though.

Skinny Jeans, Printed Scarves and Cardigans with Rebecca Minkoff Red Saddle Bag

More adventures out with my friend who was visiting Brisbane. I've mentioned before I try to get out as often as I can with the two boys, but with my friend here we've been doing a more than our usual routine of library and playgroup visits. I've been reaching for jeans a lot to keep things simple, and Converse for all the walking.

What I wore:

ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white (on sale and on sale in metallic!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in brown!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a trip to Australia zoo. While it was quite warm and I took my cardigan off for most of the day, I was thankful I'd brought the scarf as it's a great breastfeeding coverup. Plus the bird print is perfect for a day at the zoo. Didn't attract the local birds like I did last time I wore it though!

The elephant necklace was a last minute addition but again was a fun animal themed piece to wear to the zoo. I have a few teething necklaces from when toddler T was a baby, this one is a new one I got in a babyology subscription box. Baby boy has started grabbing and tugging on my hair hard so the necklace was a little bit of a distraction for him. Came in handy on the long car ride home when we got stuck in traffic with a cranky baby too, one of my friends tied it to the baby capsule like a little mobile to calm him down.

Why I wore it:

It was a slightly cooler day so I was glad I'd worn a thicker cardigan. While I took the scarf off and on as I was babywearing with the Ergo carrier, the cardigan stayed on all day as we went into the city for brunch. It's getting more fun to eat out with toddler T as he's getting to the age where we can order a little meal for him to, and he definitely enjoyed his little serving.

I've mentioned before that I wasn't too sure about what kind of printed scarves I could wear with these jeans, but I find skull scarves seem to go with everything and I don't worry about wearing them with other prints. It was nice to have a little more red in my outfit too.

Jeans, Converse, Red Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Saddle Bag

First, happy to share that I was one of the featured bloggers of the week on the Weekend Wear linkup!

Now what I've been wearing. I've been enjoying red recently. My little red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag is such a great pop of colour with an outfit, but sometimes I can't resist adding a red scarf as well.

What I wore:

Flares and Converse: printed shirt and red accessories | AwayFromBlue

JeansJeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in brown!)

Why I wore it:

Another foggy start to the day, although it did warm up again later on. I was glad to have my leather jacket in the morning, even though I took it off in the afternoon when I went out with my sister.

Had a busy morning running a couple of errands, so the Converse were a good shoe to pick as I dashed around. Perfect for our afternoon walk with my sister as well, enjoying the slightly warmer day.

Last worn: printed leather jacket, red skull scarf, mixed print shirt, flared jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to wearleather jacket and printed jeans, red skull scarf and grey dress, printed shirt and a LBD, flared jeans and a neon tee, Converse and a maxi skirt, two ways to wear a saddle bag.

Why I wore it:

I was so incredibly excited when I wore this outfit! My friend was visiting Brisbane and I hadn't seen her in person for a few years so I was really looking forward to catching up and introducing the boys to her. We ended up just walking around Southbank which was really nice, as I hadn't had a good look since they redid the area. Toddler T was fascinated with the community garden. Again, I wore Converse as they are ideal for a lot of walking.

The striped top and tartan scarf are a combination I thought up the night before when trying to plan out what to wear. I didn't have a lot of time in the morning so I'm pleased that they looked nice together and I didn't have to come up with something else at the last minute.
