As I'm behind on blogging outfits, here are two red and gold outfits I wore for Chinese New Year in February. I'm wearing denim in both, as we had some cooler rainy days as Cyclone Marcia hit the coast of Queensland. Wore one on New Year's day, and one for our delayed celebration on the weekend.
Here's what I wore on Chinese New Year:
Tank: Atmos&Here 'Florida' tank in Aztec print
Jeans: Sass and Bide "Straight up" jeans
Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs
Bag: Balenciaga Coquelicot Velo
We didn't do anything special on the day of Chinese New Year as they were predicting the rains from Cyclone Marcia would be starting to hit Brisbane. I made sure I went out in the morning with baby T to stock up on plenty of essentials just in case our power or water got knocked out with the predicted flooding. I spent the afternoon at home with my mother in law when the rain started. Grateful that tradition says you can't do any sweeping on the first day of the new year - saved me a chore!
I didn't have anything new to wear to welcome in the new year, so I just went with red and gold instead. I haven't done much shopping for myself at all lately! I did have a new kimono, but decided to keep that for our celebration dinner on Saturday.
No outfit for Friday, as they had predicted the weather would be really bad that day. Hubby was told to work from home, and baby T and I stayed at home and had lots of snuggle time! A PJ day was welcomed, it was nice to rest for a bit. Good to enjoy the luxury of listening to the rain while staying cosy and dry inside too.
Last worn: Aztec print tank, Sass and Bide jeans, Havaianas, Balenciaga red velo.
Here's what I wore to celebrate Chinese New Year with my family:
Jacket: Choies red vintage pattern kimono
Top: Zalora basics ruffle hem tank in black (massively reduced in cobalt blue)
Jeans: Sass and Bide 'Three Words' metallic gold jeans
Shoes: Asos Aggie leather western ankle boots in black
Bag: Balenciaga Coquelicot Velo
On Saturday, ex-cyclone Marcia was still hanging around and bringing a lot of rain, but it was lighter in the evening so we went ahead with our planned Chinese New Year banquet. While some of the roads around us were flooded, it wasn't too hard to get to the in-laws. As it was cooler, I took the chance to layer up a little and wear my new kimono as my 'something new' for the new year. I ordered this from Choies before I wore the shirt that fell apart.
As only the kimono was new I wasn't quite sure what else I should wear with it, then I remembered something my friend Leigh had suggested a while back....so the outfit I'm wearing was a result of consulting Cooper for style advice! I put the silly video up on youtube if you want a bit of a giggle :)
Sheds a little light on the process I use for getting dressed when I sit in front of my wardrobe and think 'I have nothing to wear!'.
Last worn: black tank, metallic gold skinny jeans, ASOS ankle boots, Balenciaga velo (above). First time I've worn the kimono.

ReplyDelete2 great outfits featuring jeans and aztec prints. Love the tank-top and the kimono, Mica. Hope you and baby boy are doing wonderful. =)
ReplyDeleteKimono!! I just received my first kimono in the mail so I'm super excited to see it here :D Love the colouring! Have a great week :) x

Red and Gold are great combination for Chinese New Year outfits! - I shall keep my eye out for items in gold colour from now on : )
ReplyDeleteThis is probably an odd question to ask, but you know I have been using two bags system when I am out and about with Baby D - Do you wear Balenciaga Velo and your diaper bag together? Or do you just put baby essentials stuff in the Velo bag?
I have thought about just putting baby T's things in the handbags I carry - they might be big enough! But I'm worried about his sippy cup spilling inside of them, now that he's on solids there's water and food to carry around.
DeleteI mentioned it on a post a while back (http://awayfromtheblue.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/spring-dresses-floral-print-and-ankle.html) but I've got a little hook for the stroller, so I can put the baby bag and a handbag on it, if I can't carry my handbag because my arms are full with baby T. It works well! And I'm pleased I can carry my bags. Even if, like you, it means it's a two bag system! :)
That bright red bag is stunning. I love what you wore it with, and that you were festive and still sophisticated!
ReplyDeleteI love that gold printed top! SO pretty and perfect with your red bag!
ReplyDeleteYou look so gorgeous! Obsessing over those gold pants and your red bag! So pretty!

Red and gold are always appropriate for CNY. As always even if the outfit is simple, you look cool, cute and REAL. I love the color of your Velo, very vibrant. Hope you all had a good time during the CNY and maybe it is not too late to wish you Gong Xi Fa Chai and a prosperous year ahead!
ReplyDeleteBoth lovely look! Like the cardi in the second outfit xx

Haha, you use your dog I use baby Penny. (; Really, I saw does mama look pretty? It's sort of a lost process since she smiles at everything. Even if I'm in my pjs.
ReplyDeleteI love your Chinese New Year look. We don't really celebrate it much where I'm from. I wouldn't even know when it was if my calendar didn't remind me. But hey, any reason to celebrate and treat yourself to a little something new.
Cyclone sounds so scary! Glad you and your family are safe, dry, and flood free! (:
It's so cute when they smile at you though! For any and every reason! :) Dogs and babies of course haha.
DeleteBaby T has Chinese heritage so we celebrate it with his family :)
We were very lucky to be able to stay dry and not flood with the cyclone!
You have the best casual outfits out there! I can't wait for your summer weather so I can show my arms once in awhile! Glad you guys were safe at home during the storm!
ReplyDeleteHaha.. Cooper is so cute! Have a dog as well, named Bailey! ;) You look adorable, Mica! Love your Balenciaga and the jeans!!! Thanks for commenting on my blog, dear!

Those jeans are amazing!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, i remember these golden jeans! It's nice to be able to have a relax day staying IN and staying dry too. I used to live in Darwin (NT) and we had loads of typhoons during the summer wet season. Don't really miss that but I can understand!
ReplyDeleteYeah I think they were really prepared for this one, lots of property damage sadly, but no lives lost which is as good as it gets with a cyclone really!
DeleteLove the red kimono! Looks gorgeous on you! Also, were you cold in the first outfit? Or is cyclone weather not really that cold? I have no idea, I’ve never experienced one before. Freak weather is terrible but it sounds like you had a nice day snuggling in bed with baby T :) Pyjama days are the best!
ReplyDeleteTHE FASHANN MONSTER
Tropical cyclone, so it's crazy hot and humid leading up to it, and then the rain cools it down a little before the heat comes back. We only caught the tail end anyway, the storm wasn't near Brisbane until Friday, Thursday was just some rain :) The cyclone winds would definitely make it feel cold I guess! Lucky it wasn't a cyclone by the time it hit Brisbane.
DeleteOMG your video is ADORABLE!! so cute! you look gorgeous in both these outfits, I am obsessed with kimonos lately! xx
ReplyDeleteThrive on Novelty
haha thank you! I am hoping to get a lot more wear out of my kimonos, I never seem to wear them as much as I think I will!
DeleteThose gold jeans are so gorgeous on you! The kimono looks perfect with it!

Red and gold is the best colour combination. I wore red on chinese new year but it was unintentional, I only realised once I was getting comments on it. Love your video. Both cats and dogs give amazing fashion advice. You should ask Cooper more often.
ReplyDeletehehe, Cooper is a great little stylist! :) Glad you enjoyed the video :)
DeleteLoving the red you rocked! That kimono with the gold jeans were a good choice. Nice advice, Cooper ;) Haha, that was super cute!

haha hubby and I work in similar fields and get the opportunity to work from home often - makes sense when there is weather as bad as that hanging around too!
DeleteLove the casualness of the first outfit and the combo in the second. That kimono is everything. Beautiful! :)

Hope Marcia wasn't too brutal where you guys live. I couldn't imagine how terrifying it must be. I love storms and strong winds and rain but I imagine those kind of storms are nothing to revel in. BTW I had no idea there was a no sweeping rule on Chinese New Year! I'll be sure to remember this one hahaha!

I love the no sweeping rule! We have a tiled floor, so it was good not having to sweep for a day, hehe!
DeleteWe were really lucky, the weather was just rainy and wet for us, no gale force winds and mainly flooding which people had plenty of time to prepare for.
Love the colour the Kimono brings to your outfit!!
