Printed Shift Dresses With Colourful Scarves and Balenciaga Pink City Bag In Winter

I like colourful handbags and accessories, especially in winter to add some colour to winter layers! Today I'm sharing two very different printed shift dresses with my sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag, some colourful scarves and denim jackets. Oh, and an update on my #noBuyJuly challenge.

What I wore:

Scarf: Sportsgirl animal scarf in violet

Shoes: Kmart sparkly silver glitter sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs black leather Swarovski beaded wrap bracelet
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Wore this to take the boys out to their favourite museum - the Ipswich Rail Museum. For the winter school holidays back at the start of June, they had their usual 'Thomas and Friends' show, which the boys love. Trains and Thomas, perfect for them! We try and go once each time it's on.

Wanted something easy and comfortable for the day of walking around, this comfy striped tee dress is a fave and easily winterised with the leggings, purple leopard print scarf and denim jacket. It was a little bit windy and I did get cold ankles at some points, but I was still happy with this outfit. Perfect for a day running around various exhibits.

With the purple leopard print scarf, I thought the sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag was a great accessory - and it fit everything I needed to carry as well as my camera for the day. You can see what fits inside the city bag in my video below.

Why I wore it:

Again, another printed shift dress! This one has a fun geometric print on it with tiny pink ovals, so I always seem to gravitate towards pink accessories when I wear it! Even if the pink is hard to see in a photo. Thought this hot pink scarf would look nice with the print, along with the sorbet Balenciaga city bag, even if the shades of pink aren't the same. I like a little matchy matchy by wearing similar coloured pieces together.

Again just a simple denim jacket on top - the tall tan boots kept me cosy along with the fleecy tights and despite the cold start to the morning it was warmer when we left church.

Last worn: denim jacket, pink crinkle scarf, dangly earrings, geometric print shift dress, tall tan boots, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to weardenim jacket and maxi skirt, pink crinkle scarf in the snow, geometric print shift dress and sandals, tall tan boots and jeans, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and kimono.

Perfect for pregnancydenim jacket in second trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag at 37 weeks.

A printed shift dress is a fun piece to wear in winter, with a few modifications! Both these dresses have long sleeves, and with cosy leggings and a scarf it makes a warmer outfit on a colder day.

No Buy July 19 Update

It was tricky not buying anything in July! I'd looked back at the purchases I'd made over the year in June and seen I bought more than I should have, so I was sure that No Buy July was the right thing to do. The sales were so tempting though, and hard to resist, especially when the Rebecca Minkoff sale got to 75% off and Jeanswest had a further 50% off sale items!

I did manage to make it through the month of July with no fashion purchases! I'm pleased I was able to stick to the challenge and I think I'll do it again next year too, making it the fifth year I've done No Buy July.

Weekday Wear Linkup! Wrap Tops and Blue Pencil Skirts With Pink City Bag

Two lovely wrap tops with navy textured pencil skirts with the Weekday Wear Linkup! I picked these wrap tops to wear as I was hunting through my wardrobe for more pieces to donate and I realised I hadn't worn these in a while. They were definitely overdue a wear.

What I wore:

TopAtmos & Here Arlene wrap top in navy
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs logo plaque flats in camel
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

This navy wrap top is such a comfortable piece to wear, because I sized up when I bought it as I was pregnant. I was surprised to see I hadn't worn this top and skirt together before, the navy lace works so well with the wrap top.

I added the pink Balenciaga city bag for a little extra burst of colour. I wasn't 100% happy with the shoes though, I think another pair would have worked better, maybe a silver pair like I wore below.

Last worn: navy wrap top, tassel earrings, initial necklace, lace pencil skirt, camel flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearnavy wrap top and shorts, lace pencil skirt in winter, camel flats and olive pants, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and denim shorts.

Perfect for pregnancynavy wrap top in third trimester, lace pencil skirt in second trimester, camel flats in third trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag at 37 weeks pregnant.

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit above, I wore a similar outfit the next day I was in the office. I love taking an outfit and following the same formula to create something new without trying too hard! This time around it was my grey jersey wrap top and my navy jacquard pencil skirt. I picked silver flats this time, and liked the outfit a lot more. Surprised to see that this top hasn't been worn in over a year though!

Again I stuck with the pink Balenciaga city bag - it's a fun pop of colour! And swapped the grey earrings for these navy ones instead. While the earrings are gold, I still went with silver necklaces and I don't feel they looked out of place.

Last worn: grey wrap top, navy tassel earrings, star necklace, Silhoupette, jacquard pencil skirt, silver ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Wrap Tops Under $50

How You Can Wear It

While wrap tops work great for breastfeeding (and it was the reason why I bought these tops!) they work equally well when you're not breastfeeding. They are a nice alternative to a plain top, and neutral colours like these mean they work well in an office. If you're looking for a wrap top that will do double duty for corporate style, ones with a modesty snap like these ones are a good way to go.

Printed Maxi Dresses & Pink Balenciaga Bags

The simplest outfit of all has to be a printed dress, and you'll know if you've read my blog a while that maxi dresses are my favourite! I wore both of these recently for different occasions - a maxi dress works for so many events.

What I wore:

Jeanswest Sophia high-low maxi dress with magenta balenciaga day bag studded sandals summer dinner outfit | awayfromblue

printed maxi dress with Balenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta | awayfromtheblue

awayfromtheblue instagram | Jeanswest Sophia high-low maxi dress summer dinner outfit with magenta pink Balenciaga bag
Necklace: Kmart navy and gold beaded tassel necklace
DressJeanswest Sophia high-low maxi dress
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush
BagBalenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta

Why I wore it:

Second wearing of my Christmas dress! I bought this dress back in October. I usually stick to my 'wear twice in the month I buy it' rule for fashion purchases, but decided to treat myself to a new dress for Christmas and put this aside until the day.

This time around, I wore it to head over to my parents for dinner. Nothing formal, just another excuse for me to wear this pretty dress! These studded Rebecca Minkoff gladiator sandals are a staple for me over summer - the neutral shade just goes with everything - and were an obvious choice with the dress.

I thought the magenta Balenciaga day bag would work nicely with the pink and the purple in the print. While not an exact match to the shade of pink in the dress, I still really liked this combination together. I thought the navy and gold tassel necklace was a good pairing with the dress too.

Unfortunately I managed to break (and kinda repair) this necklace part way through the evening. It's not quite as symmetrical now, although it is back in one piece! Despite breaking the necklace, we had such a nice time at my parents.

Last worn: high-low maxi dress, navy tassel necklace, gladiator sandals, Balenciaga magenta day bag.

Other ways to wearhigh-low maxi dress for Christmas day, gladiator sandals worn 30 ways, Balenciaga magenta day bag for travelling.

Perfect for pregnancyBalenciaga magenta day bag in third trimester.

My Balenciaga Handbag Collection:

What I wore:

DressJeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress
ShoesBalenciaga studded sandals in sorbet RGGH
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

This outfit was for a much more casual occasion, although I again opted for the ease of a maxi dress. We had an early morning start to surprise hubby at the airport as he arrived after a week away in America. An even earlier start than expected as his plane arrived 20 minutes ahead of time, so instead of leisurely getting ready I had to hurry up and get us all fed and dressed and drive to the airport. In the end I probably didn't need to get there as early as I did, his plane was only actually 10 minutes early in the end, but as we were surprising him and he wasn't expecting to see us, I wanted to be there ready with our signs so he'd see us as soon as he stepped through customs.

Since I wanted to put in a little bit of effort into my outfit, I went with my trusty blue maxi dress. It's just as comfortable as pyjamas when you're sitting around at the airport waiting for someone to arrive! I've worn it with pink before in the past, I really like blue and pink together. I was surprised to see I hadn't worn this pink Balenciaga sorbet city bag with it before though! I really liked the combination.

I picked a pink necklace which kind of matched, and my sorbet Balenciaga studded sandals which matched the bag exactly. Simple accessorising for the morning rush!

Last worn: pink beaded necklace, blue printed maxi dress, Balenciaga studded sandals, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearblue printed maxi dress layered for a rainy day, Balenciaga studded sandals and shorts, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and pencil skirt.

How You Can Wear It:

A printed maxi dress is such a time saver, it's an instant outfit. They are easy to accessorise too! You can pick similar colours out of the print to wear in your accessories and add some neutral pieces like in the first outfit, or just pick a contrasting colour and wear that in all your accessories like I have in the second outfit.

New Weekday Wear Linkup! Blue Dresses and Pink Balenciaga City Bag: Summer Office Outfits

Two simple summer office outfits, with two pretty printed dresses and a pink Balenciaga city bag. All pieces I love and have worn before, but I do have something new to share with you - a new outfit linkup!

What I wore:

NecklaceJeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
DressFrench Connection blue Paisley print dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

Sometimes I find the square neckline of this sheath dress a little tricky to accessorise, I often debate for a while each morning about what necklace to wear. This long pendant necklace has been a frequently worn one lately though, so I decided to give it a go and I really liked the combination!

The paisley print dress and pink Balenciaga city bag are frequently worn together, I really like pink and blue! And as I had a gold necklace, these gold mouse flats were an obvious shoe choice. Really easy summer office style. I did have a blazer too for the cold aircon in the office, but it was much too hot to wear it for photos in the morning.

Last worn: long tassel necklace, paisley print sheath dress, gold mouse flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearpaisley print sheath dress and blazer, gold mouse flats and pencil skirt, Balenciaga sorbet city bag in winter.

Perfect for pregnancypaisley print sheath dress in second trimester, gold mouse flats in second trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag in second trimester.

What's In My Bag: Balenciaga Sorbet City Bag

DressJeanswest Aztec print dress
BeltRebecca Minkoff Liv double wrap velvet belt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

It was a little cooler this morning (although not by much) so I wore my blazer for the pics. Again I picked a gold necklace to wear with the blue printed dress, this Kmart one is another frequently worn one, and so cheap too! For the blazer, shoes and belt I went with black, due to the darker colours in the Ikat print of the dress.

While the blue print in this dress is darker than the one above, I still think the pink Balenciaga city bag is a fun accessory with it - it really pops with the darker background.

A little bit of a quieter day at work meant the opportunity to get some training in too which was wonderful - we have an online training site but I so rarely get the opportunity to use it and there were some courses I've been wanting to do for a while!

Last worn: black jersey blazer, blue and gold necklace, Ikat print dress, velvet belt, black ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to wearjersey blazer and jeans, Ikat print dress with green, velvet belt over a blazer, black ballet flats and skinny jeans, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and shorts.

Perfect for pregnancyblack jersey blazer in third trimester, Ikat print dress in third trimester, black ballet flats in second trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city bag in second trimester.

Blue Printed Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A printed dress is such an easy office option as you can just pull-on and go. You can always accessorise with a nice neutral like all the black pieces I wore in the second outfit, or make a brightly coloured dress even brighter with a bold bag like the pink Balenciaga city.

Print Mixing: Printed Dresses, Leopard Flats and Pink Bags

When I first bought these leopard print flats, I saw myself wearing them with plain outfits, to let them be the standout print. I decided to try stretch myself a little and wore some printed dresses with the leopard print shoes. Keeping things simple, I stuck with black and white dresses to match the colour of the shoes.

What I wore:

striped fit and flare dress with leopard print ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff small darren bag | away from blue

striped dress, Rebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony pink | away from the blue

awayfromtheblue instagram | black and white print mixing fit and flare dress leopard flats outfit with pastel pink darren bag
Necklace: Uniquely Made with Love Sea Change necklace
DressJeanswest 'Rita' stripe jersey dress
ShoesWalnut Melbourne Ava White leopard ballet flats (new purchase)
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

I hadn't been feeling too well when I wore this - I'd been to the doctor the day before and was signed off for the day. I woke up expecting to feel better, still feeling pretty terrible. Got myself and the boys dressed and ready and dropped them off at daycare, where I was promptly asked if I was okay as I wasn't my usual self. Realised that all I wanted to do was go home and sleep so went home, let work know I wouldn't be in, and booked another appointment to see the doctor who then gave me more time off work.

I wouldn't usually be so dressed up for a doctors appointment, but I'd planned my outfit before so it was easy to grab and go, and I had started the day not feeling too sick.

Does feel like this was a bit of a waste of an outfit as I really liked the print mixing with the striped dress and leopard print flats, and the pastel pink Darren bag was a cute addition. Ended up taking everything off when I got home and defaulting to trackie dacks to curl up on the sofa and doze and watch netflix!

Last worn: striped fit and flare dress, bead necklace, Rebecca Minkoff small Darren. First time I've worn the leopard print flats on the blog as they are a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearstriped fit and flare dress and purple bag, Rebecca Minkoff small Darren and pencil skirt.

Perfect for pregnancystriped fit and flare dress in second trimester.

Why I wore it:

Felt much better when I wore this outfit! Unfortunately, the day was not any more fun! Had to go do my taxes. Not very exciting! We did do a little Christmas shopping afterwards, but came home empty handed.

Since I liked the outfit combination above so much, I tried it again, with a black and white printed dress to compliment the black and white shoes. This time I went with a bolder pink bag, my sorbet Balenciaga city. Perfect size for holding all the paperwork I had to take to and from my appointment.

I did just post this dress recently, but I love it in spring and summer. It's so light, fun to wear and it's a nice length for spending time with the boys - not too short! Kmart still sell them too - they have the same style in lots of different designs at the moment.

Last worn: tiered dress, knotted heart necklace, leopard print flats (above), Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Leopard Print Flats Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

It's easy to wear printed shoes with plain neutral pieces, but you can try something different by wearing them with a printed dress. To keep things simple and cohesive, pick a dress that matches the colours in the shoes. You can add a bright and colourful handbag to your outfit also as it can add interest to your outfit without clashing with the prints.

Peplum Tanks and Pencil Skirts With Pink Handbags

For something a little different, I paired some peplum tanks and pencil skirts together. It's not the first time I've worn the combo, and I'm wearing it in two different ways below. For a casual work from home day and for a day in the office.

What I wore:

spring rainy day peplum tank pencil skirt pink balenciaga city bag office outfit | awayfromblue

Balenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet pink | awayfromtheblue

awayfromblue Instagram | navy peplum bird print tank pink balenciaga city bag pencil skirt
Earrings: Kmart blue fringe crescent statement earrings

SkirtAsos tailored tab front pencil skirt in grey
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet (more affordable preloved)

Why I wore it:

I was excited to give my new tank a wear! My mum kindly picked this up for me in Kmart when we were browsing together. It's perfect for summer, and I could see it working with a pencil skirt and blazer or plain pants as well as with jeans and shorts. Really looking forward to wearing this more! Decided to pair it with my pink Balenciaga city bag to bring out the pink bird print.

The necklace is new too, I picked it up at Jeanswest recently during one of their sales.

The grey pencil skirt was a great neutral to wear it with, although I did wish I'd taken a blazer - the rain set in for most of the day and it was a little chillier than I expected. The black ballet flats were a good choice for the rain with the rubber soles.

Last worn: statement earrings, grey pencil skirt, Walnut Melbourne flats, Balenciaga sorbet city. First time I've worn the tank and necklace as they are recent additions to my wardrobe.

Other ways to weargrey pencil skirt and polka dot tank, Walnut Melbourne flats and green pants, Balenciaga sorbet city with monochrome outfit.

Perfect for pregnancygrey pencil skirt in second trimester, Walnut Melbourne flats in second trimester, Balenciaga sorbet city in third trimester.

My Latest Rebecca Minkoff Purchase Revealed:

ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony  (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Similar outfit to the one above, but I wore this pencil skirt and peplum tank combo for a much more casual day so I dressed it down a little with the Converse. The jersey material of this pencil skirt is a great relaxed fit with Converse, and I've worn them together in the past.

Had the daycare drop off in the morning and then working from home before doing the pickup and taking my son to his appointment, so this comfortable outfit was perfectly suited for the day.

I really liked the way this pastel pink Rebecca Minkoff small Darren bag worked with the neutral black and grey too.

The fun chook print scarf was a last minute addition, but I felt it worked well too add an extra bit of interest to my outfit, and a little touch of warmth in the cooler weather. The outfit seemed a bit plain without it!

Peplum Tanks Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

Peplum tanks, like any other kind of tanks, are so easy to wear with pencil skirts. You can dress them up for the office or dress them down for a quieter day at home. If you're in a formal business environment, you might not get away with a peplum tank as you have to wear a button up or collared shirt, but for a business casual environment like my office this outfit formula works perfectly.
