Two Ways To Wear: Coca-Cola Stripe Logo Tee

Most of my opshop purchases are impulse buys, like this tee! It's rare for me to have enough luck to go thrifting for something specific and find it. I was so thrilled to come across this striped Coca Cola logo tee though, for just $1 (the whole rack was 8 pieces for $4, but there is limited browsing time when your child suddenly announces he needs to pee!). Since logo tees are perfectly on trend, I knew it would be an easy piece to add to my wardrobe. Here's two different ways I've worn it. Both involving a little print mixing!

What I wore:

Tee: thrifted navy stripe Coca-Cola logo tee
Skirt:  thrifted Billabong red printed maxi skirt
Shoes: Asos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey with Rebecca Minkoff Crystal Star Shoulder Guitar strap

Why I wore it:

A not so chilly winter morning meant I could take my opportunity to wear my denim jacket. It's going to sit unworn in my wardrobe for a couple months until winter is over now! It wasn't too cold to wear in the morning but was a little cooler in the evening. The Chelsea leather ankle boots helped keep me cosy too.

I did the day car drop off and pick up and worked from home. This outfit was perfect for that, I do really like this red maxi skirt with the denim jacket, and I wanted to wear that combination again (I last wore the denim jacket and red maxi skirt here). I thought the striped tee was a good print mix with the print on the skirt, and the red logo tied in perfectly. I really loved this outfit!

Was all so easy to put together, and so comfortable.

Why I wore it:

Another little touch of print mixing with this tee. Unlike the outfit above, I did wish this outfit was a little warmer when I sat outside in the playground with the boys. It was so funny as the kids were running around playing happily and us mums were shivering and trying to find the warmest (sunny and not as windy) spots to watch the kids playing!

Aside from wishing I'd worn something a bit warmer than a blazer, I did like this outfit. I wanted to pick out the navy stripes from this tee for a bit of matchy-matchy. This bird print scarf was so perfect. I loved the colour combo and the print mixing was nice too. I've worn this scarf with stripes before and enjoyed it then too.

I did add just a little touch of red with the bag - the red logo is fun as a pop of red on it's own, and I'll need to try that next time I wear it, but if you've read my blog a while you will know I can't resist a little matchy matchy-ness!

How You Can Wear It:
Stripes are such an easy print to try print mixing with. If you're not a fan of print mixing though, you can still take some inspiration from the outfits above. Pick out a colour from your logo or striped tee and wear coordinating pieces like the red skirt in the first outfit, or coordinating accessories like the red dress and navy scarf in the second outfit.

What I Bought In June & How I've Worn It: Shopping Haul & Try On Video

Time for an overdue shopping haul video! The last item I ordered in May finally arrived so I thought I'd do a wrap up video with some of my May purchases and my June ones. I felt like I bought a lot, but it was only a handful of pieces - 3 to be exact! You can see my June purchases and the other pieces I bought in May in the video below. Plus, I included some bloopers at the end!

What I Bought:

A month of impulse buys, after last minute browsing of the Rebecca Minkoff sale and just popping into the opshop for a quick look both resulted in buying things.

While I'm a little annoyed that the handbag I bought didn't arrive the same month I bought it, and it wasn't the colour I expected, I absolutely adore it. It was a bargain too, at 50% off! I'll upload a proper review of it on my YouTube channel at some point, but for now I'll just say I love it and I've enjoyed every time I've worn it.

I had been looking at the new Jeanswest winter collection and admiring the yellow knits when I saw this one in the opshop and for just $1 I quickly forgot all about the Jeanswest ones I'd been looking at! While it would be too thin a knit for winter in most other places, it will be perfect for Brisbane. When it gets really cold, I plan to layer a long sleeve tee underneath, which I've done in the past with my open knits to make them more winter appropriate.

The Coca-Cola tee caught my eye to add to my collection of Coca-Cola things. I have so many glass bottles, as well as towels, balls, badges, toy cars, even a Coca-Cola cookbook! While I don't drink it so much now, I still smiled when I saw this tee and just had to snap it up for just $1. I also feel like I've seen something similar in stores lately, with the recent rise in logo tees it's perfectly on trend.

How I Wore It:

June purchases and ways to wear away from the blue blog

I had no troubles finding and thinking of different ways to wear the pieces I got this month - which is a sign that they will hopefully be good additions to my wardrobe. They seem to be so far.

Every month I set myself a goal of wearing everything I buy at least twice in the same month I buy it, to make sure I'm buying pieces I want to wear immediately and can easily think of different ways to wear. As you can see from the pics above, everything was happily worn twice or more.

I'm giving myself a little bit of grace with the Rebecca Minkoff Love bag, as it didn't arrive until a month after I ordered it. I did wear it 3 times in the month after it finally arrived though, so still counting it as meeting my goal.

Update on Yearly Budget:

June is usually a big spending month for me as it's a change of season and I want to stock up on all the fun winter pieces in store. I'm pleased I haven't done much of that and only bought a handful of pieces this year. I'm really focusing on rewearing more of what I already own.

I've definitely spent more in the first six months of 2018 than I did in 2017 though, only because I did 6 months without shopping in the first half of 2017. I'm still less than half way under my total spend from last year so I'm hoping I can stick to that and spend less overall this year than I did last year. Fingers crossed!

I'll be attempting #noBuyJuly18 (just like I've done in previous years) so there shouldn't be any purchases next month to report. Feel free to join me if you want to forgo fashion spending for a month! My tips for surviving 6 months without shopping might come in helpful!

And finally, I was the Featured Fashionista over at Have Clothes, Will Travel so go check it out! You'll find out a little more about me and why I blog.

Accessorising Bags & Winter Office Wear With Printed Skirts

Embracing winter weather and getting my fleecy tights and my knits out for some colourful office outfits. I'm glad I have a business casual dress code at work that lets me be a little more creative with what I wear.

Both these outfits follow the same outfit formula, and despite the different colour schemes in each, I kept the same fun accessory on my bag. The silk 'scarf' tied in a bow on the Regan handle is actually a belt from the skirt in the first photo.

What I wore:

JacketJeanswest Monica Mac coat in Indigo
NecklaceStarfish Project Hannah turquoise bead necklace
Top: Valleygirl blue knit jumper
SkirtFrench Connection silk leaf print skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

This skirt is silk, so it's quite light, but with a pair of fleece lined tights it was perfect for a cold morning. I wasn't sure what to do with the silk belt that comes with this skirt at first, then I realised I could just use it to accessorise my bag! (Video showing more ways you can accessorise your bags below.)

After trying it in pregnancy, I've been embracing green and blue together a lot more so I thought that this cobalt marle knit would work nicely with the green and yellow in this skirt. I wasn't too sure about the combo after first trying it on, but grabbing this green beaded necklace really tied it together for me and I loved this outfit combo. It did feel a bit matchy matchy, blue knit, coat and bag, with green skirt, bow on bag and necklace, but I do like a little matchy matchy!

Last worn: navy macintosh, blue marle knit, silk skirt, Marc Jacobs ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag.

Other ways to wearnavy macintosh and wrap dress, blue marle knit with magenta bag, silk skirt and teal henley, Marc Jacobs ballet flats and printed shorts, Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag and navy top.

Six Easy Ways To Accessorise Your Bags:

Top: thrifted SES fashions mustard marle knit jumper (recent purchase)
Skirt: Garfunkle Australia pleated print skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

As I usually do, copying the outfit formula I enjoyed so much from the first outfit to create this second one. I kept things a little more monochromatic this time around, with all of the yellow. I debated changing out the silk bow on the Regan bag but I think the yellow in the leaf print worked nicely with the yellow in this skirt.

Just like the outfit above, this marle knit is a thrift find too, only $1! It's actually a really orange-y thread with a few flecks of gold metallic, but with the marle it looks mustard - and if you've read my blog before you'll probably know I've been loving everything mustard. I smiled when I saw this, as I had just been admiring an email from Jeanswest with their new yellow heavy knit collection before I stopped by the opshop. Perfect thing to find! The sleeves are a bit long for my petite self, but at the moment I'm just rolling them up before I can get to the tailor.

The necklace is another new piece - $3 in the Kmart sale! I like statement necklaces like this, and I felt the green and blue went with the yellow in my outfit nicely.

Last worn: trench coat, pleated a-line skirt, Walnut Melbourne flats, Rebecca Minkoff Regan satchel (above). First time I've worn the mustard knit as it's a recent opshop find.

Other ways to wearcamel trench coat and burgundy pants, pleated a-line skirt and navy tank, Walnut Melbourne flats and shorts, Rebecca Minkoff Regan satchel and wrap dress.

Perfect for pregnancy: trench coat in first trimester, pleated a-line skirt in second trimester, Walnut Melbourne flats and wrap dress.

Marle Knits Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

While thin open knits like these jumpers might be a spring or autumn staple in other parts of the world, they are perfect for Brisbane winters. A cosy knit isn't just a weekend option, you can easily dress them up a little for a business casual office with a pretty skirt. A statement necklace makes the look a little more formal as well, or you could always add heels, a blazer, and swap to a pencil skirt to dress it up even more.

What I Bought In May & How I've Worn It - Jeanswest Waterfall Drape Cardigan

While I did do some shopping, there is no haul video this month. One of my purchases hasn't arrived and so I'll wait until then to film a video. Instead, I'll share with you the two pieces that I do have after buying them this month.

Jeanswest had a 30% off sale on knitwear, so as I usually do, I checked the site 'just to browse' and saw this beautiful waterfall drape cardigan. I ended up buying two!

The cardigan comes in three colours, so I went to the store to try them on, and ended up loving both colours I tried on and bought both. After donating 3 of the cardigans I'd just unboxed from my boxes of winter clothes I pulled out of storage though I felt justified in doing so!

As you can see from the photos below of how I wore the cardigans, you can wear them two ways which instantly appealed to me.

What I Bought:

There are two buttons, one on each shoulder of the cardigan, and a button hole at the bottom of each hem. That means you can button up one or both sides of the cardigan when you wear it (like I did here). It's ideal for breastfeeding, as it turns your cardigan into a breastfeeding cover, and is something I wish I had when I was breastfeeding. I used to have to hold baby and the cardigan over the top of him when using my cardigans as breastfeeding covers. While my breastfeeding days are behind me, I'm still tagging breastfeeding friendly outfits on the blog. I'll just be making use of the feature when I want to wear these cardigans differently!

When I buy things, I think of two ways to wear them. With the buttons making these cardigans adaptable, it was an easy purchase to make as I have so many more ways to wear them. I'm thinking that the new thicker red cardigan will get worn more than the light one it replaced too.

How I Wore It:

Jeanswest waterfall drape cardigan 2018 5 ways to wear red and navy | awayfromtheblue blog

I'm pleased I was able to wear these cardigans so soon after I bought them, unlike the last knit I bought back at the start of autumn when it took weeks for the weather to cool.

Special mention also to these two lovely kimonos the boys got me for Mother's Day that were added to my wardrobe in May!

For the third thing I bought, I will share a reveal video as soon as it arrives. I ordered something from the Rebecca Minkoff online sample sale. There will be a delay in shipping as the sale was so popular, and it takes a while to reach Australia from the US too. Can't wait for it to arrive. Make sure you're subscribed to my YouTube channel to see it before it reaches the blog!

Two Ways To Wear Rebecca Minkoff Ruana Poncho with Shorts: Adding Autumn Layers to Summer Outfits

When I stumbled across this Rebecca Minkoff knit poncho / kimono in the Shopbop sale I couldn't get it out of my head. I have no shortage of kimonos in my wardrobe, but it is different from any of the ones I already owned. From the fall/winter collection, it's a thick and cosy acrylic knit that I knew would be perfect for autumn or winter outfits when it gets too chilly to wear my thinner kimonos.

I hadn't planned to wear it with shorts, I was thinking of cooler temperatures and jeans! But it was good to take advantage of the cooler mornings and evenings in this mild Brisbane autumn and throw it on as an extra layer with my shorts.

What I wore:

Rebecca Minkoff Ruana poncho in monochrome shorts and tee outfit print mixing with foil stripes | awayfromblue

tassel poncho and Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: silver heart long pendant necklace
TeeJeanswest Anika foil stripe tee in white and silver
ShortJeanswest Sara distressed hot short
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

Kept things simple this time I wore the kimono. As it was predicted to rain, I thought this would be perfect to keep cosy as we ran a few errands before and after our Australian Breastfeeding Association mothers group. Picked the Converse as a practical choice too, although we were lucky to get home just before the storms rolled in, the rain and thunder chased us home!

I was going to wear a colourful necklace with this, one of my baby-friendly teething ones, but decided at the last moment to keep things completely monochrome and went with a silver necklace to match the silver foil stripes on the tee and silver bag. I ended up having a conversation with a friend about how I might just stick to baby friendly necklaces for the group in future - this necklace got tugged on quite a few times, and that was just by my boys!

Usually I'll add a little colour to a monochrome outfit, but with the print mixing with the print on the kimono and the striped tee, I felt my outfit was busy enough. I really liked this outfit, and I'm looking forward to wearing this kimono more as the weather continues to cool in Brisbane.

Last worn: foil stripe tee, distressed denim shorts, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC.

Other ways to wearfoil stripe tee and olive short, distressed denim shorts in capsule wardrobe, Converse and swing dress, Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC and purple jeans.

What I Bought Last Month:

Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs

Why I wore it:

This was a much more colourful outfit to wear with the black and white kimono. This had seemed like a great idea in my head, but I felt it was a little busy when I looked back at the photos. I did really like the mustard tank under the kimono though, I'm going to have to give that a try again.

Was a busy day with daycare drop off and pick up and working from home, but at the last minute Baby Boy's specialist appointment was postponed so that freed up the evening a little and gave me a little more time to do the daycare pickup and get dinner organised.

Although it's the first time I've worn the kimono with these pieces, I have worn the tank and shorts together before. I like wearing these blue shorts with yellow, so cheerful and colourful.

More Black and White Kimonos Under $50:

This poncho I'm wearing has just been added to the 75% off Rebecca Minkoff Online sample sale too!

How You Can Wear It:

Cosy knitted ponchos or kimonos make great layers when the weather starts to cool in autumn or when it hasn't warmed up enough in spring. A classic black and white one works just was well with a monochrome outfit as it does with a bold and colourful one, so it's easier to wear more often.

What I Bought In April & How I Wore It

Every month I like to share what I've bought and how I've worn it. This month was a month of impulse buys, driven by sales. Grab a drink and watch the video where I go through everything in detail, and try everything on.

What I Bought:

I know I don't usually include beauty products in my hauls, mostly because only wearing makeup two days a week to go into the office means I rarely have to buy replacements! But I picked up a couple of things in the Priceline 40% off sale.

How I Wore It:

awayfromblue april monthly purchases and how I wore them rebecca minkoff poncho belt and Jeanswest

No surprise I wore the navy Jeanswest top twice right away - it's perfect for SAHM life and office life. You could even breastfeed in it if you do the singlet underneath trick and lift it up for access.

I'm pleased I managed to wear everything else twice too, especially the kimono as I was worried it would be too warm to wear this month. Thankfully autumn weather started to arrive near the end of April so I could meet my goal and wear it twice! I like to wear everything I buy twice in the month I buy it. It ensures I buy things I can use right away, stops things being bought just to sit unworn in my wardrobe, and makes me think of different ways I can wear things before I buy.

Two Ways to Wear: Jeanswest Chana Long Sleeve Studded Navy Boho Peasant Top With Balenciaga City and Rebecca Minkoff Regan

When I got the email that Jeanswest had a sale on, I hopped on the site for a quick browse. I saw this top and instantly fell in love, and purchased it the same day. Originally $59, reduced to $20, I couldn't say no! While it's got the tassels and the studs, it's still a lovely neutral navy, and I can see it going with so much in my wardrobe. I wore it below for a casual day of shopping, and more formally for a day at the office.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

After a busy few weeks, I was really looking forward to a relaxing day of shopping. As relaxing as it can be with two little boys in tow! Overall, they were pretty good. We had time to browse a few stores. I had a hunt through the Jeanswest sale again, and while I tried some things on nothing came home with me. My sister did buy this star print tee which you might remember I bought last month! We have quite a few of the same or similar pieces in our wardrobes actually, so I wasn't surprised when she picked it up.

With the navy top and navy shorts together, I wanted something to break it up a little. I was originally going to wear my pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag, but felt a bigger pop of colour was needed. The sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag was perfect, and it meant I could be matchy matchy with the Balenciaga sandals as well, not just the top and shorts.

Last worn: printed shorts, Balenciaga sandals, Balenciaga sorbet city. First time I've worn the top as it's a recent purchase.

Why I wore it:

I woke up this morning not feeling too great, but figured it was because of a busier than weekend. Put on this lovely top to boost my mood, and the Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag as I like how nicely the navy colours work together. Once I was at work I realised I couldn't shake the head cold, and ended up going home a little early after my final meeting for the day. I intended to rest up for a couple hours before the boys got home from daycare, with the idea that I'd feel better the next day after resting. Unfortunately, I did not. I ended up being pretty sick for a few days - as were the boys, which didn't help with resting and recovering! Thankfully we are all feeling much better now.

I'm glad it was a warm enough morning that I didn't need a blazer with this so that it was easier to see the fun studded sleeve detail. I did wish at the end of the day when I started getting feverish that I'd had a scarf in my bag to wrap myself up in though. Heading home to bed was the next best thing!

How You Can Wear It:

Neutral tops like this in modest cuts are perfect for casual days out with the boys, or more formally with a pencil skirt for the office. The beauty of a block colour top is that you can pair it with fun printed pieces without worrying about patterns clashing. I'm always looking for more ways to wear pieces in my wardrobe, so tops like this that do double duty in the office and on weekends are must-haves!

Difference between leather and canvas mini MAC bags and print mixing with kimonos

Printed kimonos are the best. I don't just wear them with plain pieces though. I have a lot of stripes in my wardrobe so I like to print mix by layering my kimonos over my stripes. Even if I didn't love one of these outfits as much as the other, they are both striped tanks with printed kimonos. And of course I accessorised with my Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bags.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Wore this out to my local Australian Breastfeeding Association group. While it was a hot and humid day, I felt this kimono was light enough to add a colourful layer. With the white and navy striped tank, it made sense to wear a blue kimono with it. I really liked this outfit, so simple and perfect.

The only thing I didn't like about this was the humidity - the meeting quickly turned from a planned discussion topic into sharing tips and tricks for surviving the heatwave with kids. Lots of good ideas, and sometimes it's just nice to hear that you're not alone and after weeks of stifling temperatures, other people are getting a bit stressed out too!

Kept the accessories simple with the shorter necklace and the silver mini MAC bag. This bag really goes with everything!

Why I wore it:

With it being Valentine's day and Lunar New Year, I had to wear a little bit of red. Picked this kimono as my newest item of clothing with some red in it, and wondered what top to wear it. This pink/red/coral brushstroke stripe tank hadn't been worn in a while (I last wore it when I was pregnant!) and I really liked it when I put the two side by side. The shorts were a new purchase, so perfect to wear for the new year.

Had to go for a red bag too, so I picked this little berry canvas stripe mini MAC bag. It's been a while since I wore this canvas mini MAC bag! I included the video above comparing the canvas and leather bags together. The canvas one is a little stiffer so not always the easiest to get my wallet in and out of!

When I tried it all on I wondered if it was too many prints all together, but I liked it enough to wear it out. Well to wear it to daycare drop off and pick up and work from home! Had mixed feelings about it after seeing the photos I took though. Don't hate it enough to class it as an outfit fail, but I probably won't wear the tank and kimono together again, it was all a little much. What do you think?

Last worn: printed kimono, brushstroke stripe tank, Havaianas (above), Rebecca Minkoff stripe mini MAC. First time I've worn the shorts as they are a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearprinted kimono and olive shorts, brushstroke stripe tank and pencil skirt, Rebecca Minkoff stripe mini MAC and maxi skirt

Perfect for pregnancybrushstroke stripe tank in second trimester, stripe mini MAC in second trimester

How You Can Wear It:

Stripes are always a good place to start when print mixing, and adding a colourful kimono on top means you can take it off later if you change your mind about the pattern mix! A nice non-committal way to try a little bit of print mixing.
