Striped Mini MAC Bag and Jeans

As usually happens when I near the end of any season, I've been feeling a bit uninspired with my winter wardrobe. Easy outfit formulas are great when you're rushed for time with little ones in the morning, but they don't feel very inspiring. Decided to wear some loved but little worn pieces to try make getting dressed a little more interesting.

What I wore:

Printed accessories winter jeans and tee outfit | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe | AwayFromTheBlue
JacketJeanswest Alice longline Australian wool cardigan
Scarf: Supre neon pink leopard print scarf
TopAtmos&Here rolled sleeve oversize tee in black (also in grey)
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a babywearing consultation. I've only recently discovered that there are people who are trained in the art of babywearing and know how to use all the different options on the market. I've been thinking about getting another baby carrier for baby boy so booked in a consultation. The lovely Kylie came over to my house and I got to try on so many different carriers, as well as some much needed pointers to improve my experience with my current Ergobaby carrier.

Jeans and a tee was a nice easy and practical outfit, and the colourful scarf and striped bag were good to add some colour. The scarf was very welcome for battling the cold in the morning too. It's been four months since I last used this bag, it was good to get it out again.

Last worn: grey wool cardigan, neon leopard print scarf, black tee, skinny jeans, black ballet flats, canvas stripe mini MAC.

Other ways to weargrey wool cardigan and red jeans, leopard print scarf and striped maxi skirt, black tee and purple cardi, skinny jeans and floral kimono, black ballet flats and flares, canvas stripe mini MAC and a polka dot dress.

What I wore:

Jacquard jacket grey jeans khaki green tank and red bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC bag | Away From The Blue
JacketJeanswest Cassandra jacquard jacket
Tank: Target embroidered khaki tank
Jeans: Sass and Bide pale grey skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

I wasn't going anywhere special, just running errands and toddler T's swimming lesson, but I really wanted to wear my grey jeans again after getting inspired by Nikki. She wore hers with a lovely pink top, and I have a pink shirt I wanted to wear. However, the post-pregnancy weight loss has not extended to the boob region so I still can't button it up sadly.

At the last minute I realised this and was fumbling around trying to think of something else that would work when I saw this tank and knew it would look nice with the grey. I wouldn't normally wear a red bag and khaki top together but I think the different shades of red and green kept it from feeling to Christmassy.

I'm not sure how much life these jeans have left in them - they are really old and almost worn to death, which is why I stopped wearing them for a while. It was good to get them out again though, and if they do eventually get worn to pieces, distressed denim is fashionable!

Last wornjacquard jacket, khaki tank, grey jeans, silver ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff canvas stripe mini MAC (above).

Other ways to wearjacquard jacket and dress, khaki tank and flares, grey jeans and heels, silver ballet flats and a maxi dress, Rebecca Minkoff canvas stripe mini MAC and a red kimono.

Two Ways To Wear: Sass and Bide Playman Printed Skinny Jeans

Near the end of June I stumbled across these jeans on ebay. I try not to buy things too close to the end of the month so I can get a few wears out of them before the month ends, but I really liked the print on these and the bargain price so snapped them up. Wore them pretty close together to meet my goal of two wears out of everything I buy within a month.

What I wore:

Sass and Bide Playman Printed Skinny Jeans black clothes red Alexander McQueen Skull scarf bright accessory | Away From Blue

handheld smooshy Mulberry foggy grey buffalo leather Alexa satchel | AwayFromTheBlue
JacketAsos Black by Markus Lupfer printed leather jacket
ScarfAlexander McQueen red skull-print modal and cashmere-blend scarf
TopJeanswest 'Tilda' black shirt
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans (new purchase)
ShoesRMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale!)
BagMulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey

Why I wore it:

While these are a bit of a statement jean, their first outing was actually a pretty boring errand running day! I was eager to wear them soon after they arrived though. Even though the Mulberry Alexa is a purpley-grey I went with the red scarf although they don't match as I thought it added a nice bit of colour to all of the black.

I tucked the jeans into the boots but it wasn't a great idea, as there are zipper details on the back it wasn't the most comfortable way to wear them.

Last worn: leather jacket, Alexander McQueen skull scarf, black top, ankle boots, Mulberry Alexa. First time I've worn the jeans as they are a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearleather jacket and a shift dress, skull scarf and plaid, black top and a baby bump, ankle boots in spring, Mulberry Alexa and a maxi skirt.

More printed jeans under $100:

What I wore:

layered winter breastfeeding outfit: wrap top, printed jeans, wool cardi and scarf | AwayFromBlue

Mulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey | Away From The Blue
ScarfMarc by Marc Jacobs scarf in Island pine-print
TopDorothy Perkins 3/4 sleeve wrap top
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagMulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey

Why I wore it:

Layered up or a really chilly day! None of my scarves seemed to look quite right next to the chevron print on these jeans but with the low neckline on this top I wanted something around my neck. Decided to wrap this one around my neck a few times to keep it away from the print and stop them 'competing' with each other. It would have been better if I'd spent a little extra time tying the scarf into  a proper snood style so it stayed in place, as it kept unravelling and driving me crazy.

I regretted all the warm layers when we got to the library. We went for the baby and toddler session and they'd heated up the room for the tiny babies. I was pulling everything off and wishing I'd gone with my short sleeved wrap top instead!

As it's the second time I've worn these jeans, my purchase review:

They are proving trickier to style than I imagined and don't work well with ankle boots, but I really do like the print on these and I enjoy wearing them. Printed jeans aren't as easy to throw on as blue jeans, but it's good to change things up a little and I don't mind thinking a little more about what to wear with these. I have a few more outfits in mind for them, they are definitely sticking around. Jeans aren't something I have a shortage of but I've been looking for more printed pants lately so I'm pleased with these.

Last worn: grey longline cardigan, Marc Jacobs printed scarf, blue wrap top, printed skinny jeans (above), silver ballet flats, Mulberry Alexa (above).

Other ways to weargrey longline cardigan and flares, Marc Jacobs printed scarf in the office, blue wrap top and a maxi skirt, silver ballet flats and a tartan pencil skirt, Mulberry Alexa and denim shorts.

Monthly Purchases: June

May was a pretty big shopping month for me, so I decided not to buy much in June...then the Iconic had an extra % off sale items. I couldn't resist picking up a maxi skirt I' d had my eye on for months after seeing it on Beth's blog, and of course I had to add in a few extra things to get free shipping ;)

In the end I only kept 3 of the things I'd ordered and returned another 3 so I'm quite pleased I didn't buy too much this month. Definitely going to be doing No Buy July again this year though! No clothes or accessories purchases for the next month. I didn't quite achieve it last year, hopefully I can do better this year! Here's what I bought before starting #NoBuyJuly16.

What I bought in June:

How I wore my purchases:

I have a goal of wearing things twice in a month after buying them. By setting myself this goal I'm making sure I'm only buying things I'll actually use now, and not just store in my wardrobe with the tags on. My wardrobe is full enough already! I'm trying to make sure I buy versatile pieces I can wear a few different ways too. I've started a Ways to Wear series to show the different ways I've been wearing what I bought. Really pleased I managed to wear everything twice this month!

Since we are halfway through the year already, I thought I'd do a tally on my spending so far. (I got this idea from Beth too, it's not just shopping inspiration she gives me!) I've spent a total of $1,510.77 which averages $251.80 a month. Most months, like this month, I'm well under that total. Considering I've bought 3 handbags this year I'm surprised the total is relatively low, but I'm hoping that for the second half of the year I can spend even less.

Purple Cardis, Skinny Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Aqua Mini MAC Bag

Getting back into most of my regular wardrobe post baby means a lot of options for what to wear each day. I participated in the #WinterStyleFile style challenge for a few days to help give me some direction for what to wear. Style challenges can be great at helping you to wear more of your wardrobe, but they are also useful when you feel overwhelmed and aren't sure what to wear.

What I wore:

Sass & Bide three words metallic gold skinny jeans printed tank purple cardi and aqua bag Winter SAHM style | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather | AwayFromTheBlue
JacketJeanswest Dana drape knit cardi in boysenberry
TankSass and Bide "For Easy Reference" tank
JeansSass and Bide 'Three Words' metallic gold jeans
ShoesAsos leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'sparkle and sass' and I felt these Sass and Bide metallic jeans met the prompt perfectly. I was just doing a little shopping with the boys, picking up a few things for toddler T's upcoming birthday. These jeans seem dressier than my normal denim so they aren't worn as often, it was good to have an excuse to wear them even if I did feel a little overdressed for chasing toddler T around Big W! At least baby boy was on his best behaviour and napped quietly in his stroller...

Last worn: purple cardi, printed tank, metallic gold jeans, Chelsea ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC.

Other ways to wearpurple cardi and chambray dress, printed tank and a maxi skirt, metallic gold jeans and a band tee, Chelsea ankle boots and a striped dress, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and denim shorts.

More purple cardigans under $50:

TopAtmos & Here Arlene wrap top in navy
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for this day was 'denim diva' which meant another excuse to wear my jeans. With the blue wrap top and skinny jeans together, I thought the purple scarf and cardi were nice accessories. I loved the colour combination of this outfit, but this cardigan is a bit thin and the playgroup we went to was really cold, I wished I'd worn a different layer. This wrap top, while great for breastfeeding, is thin and short-sleeved so I was chilly most of the morning. A bit of an outfit fail. Not because I didn't like any part of my outfit, but because it needed to be warmer!

As it's the second time I've worn this scarf and I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice to see if I'm making smart purchases, my purchase review:
I really like this scarf. I know I have too many scarves but I've been wanting to add some more plain ones to my collection. While this has a print, it's subtle enough that it isn't the main focus and makes it really wearable. I'm pleased I bought this.

Neon: Printed Tops, Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Purple Mini MAB Tote Bag

Two simple jeans outfits with a little burst of neon to add some colour. Probably the last short sleeved outfit for a while now too, since the winter weather has definitely arrived here in Brisbane.

What I wore:

Away From Blue Orange and Purple Outfit Sass & Bide Tee flares and flats

AwayFromTheBlue | Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum faux fur pom pom bag charm
TeeSass and Bide 'New Day Rising' tee in orange leopard print
Jeans:  Jeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in navy!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

A nice, easy outfit to go to playgroup with two under 2. I'd been looking at things in my wardrobe I hadn't worn for a while and decided to give this tee a wear. It's been a year and a half since it was last worn! It was hidden away right at the back of my wardrobe. It's fun to wear but I do tend to go the safe route with something so bright and just wear it with jeans.

Decided to contrast the bright orange tee with the purple bag. I've worn it like this before. Purple and orange is a fun colour combination I picked up from Sheila, I get all my best colour combination ideas from her. She inspires me to try be more adventurous with colours!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Sass & Bide neon tee, flared jeans, gold mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB.

Other ways to wearSass & Bide neon tee and skinny jeans, flared jeans and Converse, mouse flats and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB and denim shorts.

Why I wore it:

A little bit of neon with the pink skull scarf, a souvenir from a trip to Melbourne. I thought the pink scarf and purple mini MAB bag were nice colourful accessories against the neutrals.

Another casual outfit - caught up with a friend to swap stories about what the past couple of months has held for us. Admittedly, her stories and adventures were a lot more interesting than mine! I enjoyed the adult conversation for a change. While it's wonderful catching up with other mums and talking kids and everything that involves, it's good to talk about other things now and then.

Easy Postpartum Style: Trying to Hide a Lack of Sleep And Memorial Day Sales

Looking after a newborn involves some level of sleep deprivation. When you have two under 2 and a toddler to take care of in the day time, there isn't a lot of opportunity to catch up on missed sleep.

Some days you need to get out of the house no matter how little sleep you've had, so I thought I'd share two outfits I wore on some very sleep deprived days. I tried to use accessories to disguise the lack of sleep without my trusty BB cream - which I ran out of shortly after baby arrived. If you want some tips on makeup for tired mums, check out Anne's post!

What I wore:

Away From Blue | easy tied postpartum outfit kimono jeans nursing singlet

KimonoNew Look Petite print kimono (on sale, 70% off!)
SingletJeanswest maternity nursing cami
Jeans: Sass and Bide  'neon nights' jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red

Why I wore it:

Despite wanting to stay in bed after a very disturbed night, I had to take toddler T out so I grabbed a combination I knew would work from my heavy repetition of it over my pregnancy; denim, singlet and kimono.

I like kimonos as they are a great accessory to make it look like you put a little more effort into your outfit, and the colour and print helps to distract away from a tired face after a broken 3 hours of sleep. Hiding behind sunnies works too!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, printed kimono, breastfeeding singlet, Sass & Bide skinny jeans, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to wear: navy kimono with a green top, breastfeeding singlet and a maxi skirt, Sass & Bide skinny jeans and tall boots, black ballet flats and a maxi dress, red saddle bag and a black outfit.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Postpartum outfit: bright accessories to hide tired face

AwayFromTheBlue | Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red
SunniesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
ScarfLove Quotes knotted tassel linen scarf in sunshine yellow
TeeAtmos&Here navy stripe v-neck tee
Jeans: Sass and Bide  'neon nights' jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red

Why I wore it:

I wore this on another failed trip to replace my BB cream. Ended up buying a different brand to give it a try as my usual was still out of stock.

More hiding behind my sunglasses and the same denim jeans as in the outfit above - because hunting out a new pair of clean and ironed ones is a lot of work when you're just too tired. If they are still clean, they get worn again!

This time I added a bright scarf to my outfit as it was a little cooler in the morning and I hoped the cheerful yellow would reflect on my bare face and make it look a little brighter and more awake. At the very least the bright accessories would draw the focus away from the giant bags under my eyes ;)

In the end, while you do stare into those gorgeous little wide-awake-and-refusing-to-sleep newborn eyes at 2am and a part of you wonders why they just won't sleep....you can't help but smile and coo back at this beautiful little miracle staring up at you, excited and ready to play because he hasn't figured out the difference between night and day yet. Not every moment of life with baby is perfect, but every moment is fleeting. It's both a reason to treasure the good moments and something to remember to get you through the tough, sleepless moments!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), Love Quotes scarf, striped tee, Sass & Bide skinny jeans (above), gold mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag (above).

Other ways to wearyellow scarf and a navy dress, striped tee and a baby bump, Sass & Bide skinny jeans and Converse, gold mouse flats and a wrap dress, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag and flares.

Maxi Skirts, Ballet Flats and Clutch Bags

Since I injured myself on the way to work the other week, outfit options have been limited. I have to wear my old knee brace, which is a big bulky compression bandage. It helps with the pain, but it definitely doesn't fit under my skinny jeans! It doesn't work nicely with tights either.
Even though we are nearing the end of winter, it's still not quite warm enough for bare legs. So when I've had no choice and had to get out of the house I've been wearing my maxi skirts. A lot.

I'm grateful for the fact that I have quite a few maxi skirts in my wardrobe, but I apologise in advance if things start looking a little repetitive around here!

What I wore:

tweed jacket printed tank colour block maxi skirt casual night out with friends outfit

Balenciaga flat handle clutch SGH in 2010 Sang G21
Jacket: Jeanswest Cassandra jacquard jacket
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace
Tank: Sass and Bide "For Easy Reference" tank
SkirtAsos colour block maxi skirt in red
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual
BagBalenciaga flat clutch SGH in 2010 Sang

Why I wore it:

We had a long over-due dinner and poker night with friends, so I was determined to attend despite my injured knee. As I couldn't wear skinny jeans as I had planned because of the knee brace, I figured a maxi skirt would be a good choice to keep me warm. I added the jacket too, but I probably could have done with a scarf as well, it was a bit cold on the way home!

It's been over 8 months since I last wore this tank! I didn't even get an outfit photo with it on the day I wore it last as baby T decided to fling his pumpkin all over my skirt before I had the chance to stand in front of the camera. I really, really like this tank and every time I wear it I wonder why it goes so long between wears. Probably because I just have way too many tops ;)

Last worn: tweed jacket, printed tank, colour block maxi skirt, cap toe flats, Balenciaga sang clutch.

Other ways to weartweed jacket in the office, printed tank and pink accessories, maxi skirt in summer, two tone flats and print mixing, Balenciaga clutch for a Christmas party.

Maxi skirts under $30:

What I wore:

Long black cardigan jersey maxi skirt cobalt blue blouson tee

Top: thrifted Dotti blue tee
SkirtJeanswest plain jersey black maxi skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC with python embossed leather in aquamarine

Why I wore it:

Had to work from home and go to the doctor's to get an opinion on how bad my knee injury was, so comfortable cosy maxi skirt outfit with flats again. Picked this cobalt top as it's been a while since its last wear and it makes a good backdrop for my Happiness Boutique necklace. You can read my review of the necklace the previous time I wore it here.

This outfit seemed a little dark with all the black - despite the bright top and bag. I think a colourful cardigan would have looked better.

Last worn: black cardigan, cobalt blue tee, black jersey maxi skirt, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC.

Balenciaga Clutches. Statement Jeans and Lace LBD for Evening

After some comfy and slouchy outfits while the household was getting back to normal after battling a bug, I took the chance to dress up a little more than usual for some evenings out, and use my Balenciaga clutches.

Here's what I wore to go out with my sister in law:
Sass and Bide 'The Archetype' feather print zippora skinnies black lace tank night out outfit

Balenciaga envelope clutch in 2012 mangue with giant 12 RGGH
Tank: Just Jeans black lace trim singlet
JeansSass and Bide 'The Archetype' feather print zippora skinnies
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats
BagBalenciaga envelope clutch in 2012 mangue with giant 12 RGGH

As everyone was feeling better I decided to go to a Coach event I'd RSVP'd for before we all got sick. It was a good excuse to get some time out of the house, have dinner and look at some pretty bags while spending time with my sister in law. I did want to wear heels with this, but when I tried them on earlier in the day I realised after 5 minutes they wouldn't be the best for an evening of standing and chatting. So wore my comfy flats instead, and was happy I'd made that choice by the end of the night.

I've worn this tank 4 times since I've been blogging (1, 2, 3 and now). There's nothing wrong with it, it's really a very pretty tank. The lace detail at the neckline makes it feel a little more dressed up than a plain black tank. But I so rarely wear it! I have a similar black tank (gathered waist, detailed neckline) that I love more than this one. When I last wore that tank, I commented that I'd hardly worn it and it was a shame as it was a top I loved. This top, I just like. And as it's so similar to my other black top...I'm going to get rid of it. I don't need things I just like in my wardrobe when I have the perfect alternatives that I love! Trying to be much stricter with what stays in my wardrobe this year!

Leaving my wardrobe: black lace detail tank

one black lace tank styled four ways 4 outfits ways to wear 1 singlet
Outfit details: one, two, three and four.

Last worn: black tank, printed skinny jeans, gold mouse flats, Balenciaga envelope clutch.

Here's what I wore to go to dinner with friends:

Balenciaga flat clutch GSH in 2010 Sang Valentine's Day nails red silver mani
DressJeanswest 'Gisele' contrast lace dress
ShoesNineWest "Quicken" wedges in natural

This is what I wore for a Valentine's dinner with friends. First, let me comment on my hair! It is very curly. My sister found this amazing trick on Pinterest (she loves Pinterest!) where you get curls overnight without using any heat. We have similar hair, so I decided to try and replicate her curly hair style. I couldn't find the exact tutorial, but after texting back and forth before bed I think I got it right. I woke up, and instead of letting my hair down, I spent the morning tidying and looking after baby T. So I had my hair up for a little longer than you were supposed too...I actually took it out after lunch. To find that my hair was super curly. I tried running my fingers through it, I even tried brushing it - twice! - and well, it looked like it does above. I made the decision just to go with it and wear it that way anyway, hoping the curls would relax a little more through the afternoon and evening. They didn't of course! It's funny, I've tried the same trick again, leaving my hair in just overnight and I can never get the curls to stay....so I really did something wrong this time around!

My nail art was a DIY I tried that I liked a lot better - turned out not too bad, for a first attempt! I followed this tutorial from Marie, so easy to fit in during baby T's nap time! I'm also trying a new blush, one I won from Kim's giveaway on A Very Sweet Blog. That was another new thing that went well, I really like this blush. So it wasn't all bad :)

I liked the outfit (despite the hair). It was nice to dress up a little and wear some heels. And with baby T being baby sat again, I could wear another of my cute but mostly neglected clutches.

Last worn: black lace dress, wedges, red Balenciaga clutch.
