Leopard Print Scarves, Skinny Jeans and Plum Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAB Tote Bag

As it's spring now in Brisbane I'm aware that I'm not going to have a lot of opportunities to continue to wear my scarves. While I love scarves I do find them tricky to wear year-round, especially with the high humidity. I'm enjoying wearing my big blanket scarves for the moment while it hasn't fully warmed up yet.

What I wore:

skinny jeans, striped henley and purple accessories: spring SAHM style easy denim outfit | AwayFromBlue

Bracelet Stack: Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch plum purple mini MAB tote bag Rebecca Minkoff | AwayFromTheBlue
Scarf: Sportsgirl animal scarf in violet

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pastel and on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day I wore this was "this is what I found" and I had been hunting for my bright purple jeans. While pregnant last year, we boxed up a lot of things to empty our house a little in preparation for selling it. I figured I wouldn't need my pre-pregnancy clothes for a while so packed a lot of them away with no particular organisation. Since we didn't get our perfect house and house-hunting still hasn't gotten us anywhere, I'm a bit unsure where everything is! I didn't find the bright purple jeans I was looking for but I did find this grey pair with a bit of a purple tint.

Since I still felt like wearing purple I grabbed the purple leopard print scarf and Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag for accessories. I really liked this outfit in the end! Even though it wasn't what I had in mind at first I really enjoyed wearing it. I've worn the jeans and top together before too.

Why I wore it:

This is what I wore to venture out of the house for the first time in a couple days after the boys and I were recovered from the flu! I went into the city with the boys to visit a friend and stop by my office to see some colleagues. Afterwards I had a wonderful chat with a new friend.

If you've followed along on my blog (or twitter) for a while you'll know I volunteer at Life.Church, an online church. My team leader got in touch to say that she had a friend who also works at Church Online who has a niece that's visiting Australia. Since the niece was in Brisbane and the boys and I were feeling better and up to meeting people I emailed her and we had the chance to talk over coffee.

The funniest thing about catching up with this relative of a friend of a friend was how perfectly timed it all was. I'm not sure what God had in mind for our meeting but I really enjoyed it, and we kept marvelling over the way things worked out.

  • I'd never usually meet up with a stranger, especially with the boys tagging along, but I was in the city that day anyway dropping by the office so it made sense to meet.
  • If it had been a few days earlier I would have been too sick to catch up.
  • While we were talking a little about where she was staying I realised I'd checked out a house in that street - she had just moved and was living 5 minutes from us! It meant I could have her round for dinner before she left that weekend for a newly accepted au-pair job in Sydney.
  • Her new job requires her to look after a little boy around the same age as toddler T, so she could prep a little by playing with him.
  • When organising dinner I mentioned one of my food allergies - she has the exact same one and (like me) hadn't met anyone with it in person before!

While she's left Brisbane now, she's got a few people in Sydney from Church Online to catch up with too.

Being able to meet with someone from Arizona I'd never know about if it wasn't for my friend at Church Online, and to have so many things happen just the right way for us to connect blew my mind a little! I'm so grateful for my church. I can't wait to see what God does in my new friends life during her Australian trip.

Balenciaga Pink Sorbet City Bag, Jersey Blazer and Jeans

I enjoyed carrying my magenta Balenciaga day bag recently, so thought I'd pull out another pink bag, my sorbet Balenciaga city. With spring-like warmer weather, I decided to wear a blazer rather than the cardigans I've been favouring over winter.

I tracked this cream Zara blazer down on ebay. It's soft jersey material and I have it in black too. I really like this cream colour as it's a great neutral and goes with everything. The soft fabric makes me happy wearing it outside of the office.

What I wore:

SunniesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Jacket: Zara cream jersey blazer
Scarf: navy bird print scarf
TankMEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo C/O Zibibo
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in black or silver!)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a lunchtime catch up with a friend from out of state. She was in Brisbane for a couple days for work and managed to squeeze a little bit of spare time to meet up. It was so lovely to see her. The weather was not quite so lovely! It looked like an okay day and as it was supposed to rain a little I brought umbrellas just in case. After we made the decision to head off it started pouring! Luckily the stroller has a waterproof cover, but I realised on the way home that I had left the spare battery pack for my phone in the now waterlogged baby bag!

This pink Balenciaga looks pretty bad when it gets wet but (as I reassured my friend) it dries fine and it handles the rain well. The sun does more damage to it through fading the colour than any rain, especially since I've waterproofed this bag like all my handbags. It wouldn't be my first choice to wear for a stormy day, but at least I don't have to worry about it developing watermarks if I do get caught in the rain with it.

Why I wore it:

I enjoyed wearing the jersey blazer so got it out again when I was trying to think what jacket would go nicely with the pink and grey outfit I'd put together. I did try a denim jacket with this, but it seemed to hit at an odd point on this top, I much preferred this blazer. Ran some errands, took toddler T for a haircut so he'd look nice for his brother's upcoming dedication ceremony and had dinner with the inlaws.

It's the second time I've worn this new top, so my purchase review:

I like it! It really is perfect for breastfeeding, and the fabric is softer (and a little cosier) than the navy one I have in the same style. The wrap top is kept together with a snap closure so I just need to unsnap it to breastfeed, really handy even though it's not actually a breastfeeding top. I'm pleased I bought this and see it easily getting more wear.

Skinny Jeans, Prints and Cosy Cardigans with Magenta Balenciaga Day Bag

I've really been enjoying my magenta Balenciaga day bag lately! While I'm not afraid to wear it with other colours, I love the way it looks with grey. Skinny jeans, grey tees and a bright bag with some cosy cardigans makes an easy SAHM outfit formula for winter.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Wore this for daycare drop off / pick up and to run a few errands. I was lucky to bump into my friend on her way to the library for the rhyme session. While we are still a little under the weather I have been avoiding being near other kids so we didn't go to the session, just walked the rest of the way to the library together. It was so good catching up, however briefly. The hardest thing about spending most of August sick was that I couldn't see my mum friends as I didn't want my kids making their kids sick!

It's been almost a year since I last wore this scarf. I was hunting for it at the start of winter, but when I couldn't find it I figured I'd just consigned it when I sold a bunch of my scarves a while ago. It was only when I was digging around in my wardrobe for another scarf I came across this one! It had fallen off the scarf hanger I use and was laying on the floor in the corner of the wardrobe. I'm pleased I found it, and that I didn't get rid of it, as the magenta colour is such a great match for my Balenciaga day bag. Does make me realise I have too many scarves though if I can't remember what ones I still have in my wardrobe....

Why I wore it:

This is another little-worn scarf! Been over a year since this was last worn. It's amazing the things you find when you go hunting through your wardrobe. I really need to own less so that I don't randomly uncover things I've forgotten about now and then.

Simple outfit for a simple day. Had to run to the post office in the morning, had a doctor's appointment to check on baby's condition (that confirmed I'd done the right thing when I skipped taking him to the library session the day before) and spent time with my mother in law in the evening. I like the combination of this leopard print scarf with the tan boots.

Pink Bag, Purple Scarves and Black and Grey Outfits

If you follow me on instagram or twitter you'd know that August has been a tough month health-wise for the boys and I. It's the last month of winter here in Australia and pretty typical for a few bugs to be going around. We just seem to be catching them all and every time I think we're recovering we get hit with something else!

Despite wanting to just stay curled up in bed, there have been days we've had to get out of the house for appointments or occasionally we were well enough to venture out for something fun. I brought my magenta Balenciaga day bag out to add some colour to my outfits. The wonderful pink colour makes me smile every time I wear it, it's a great mood booster!

What I wore:

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats

Why I wore it:

I was feeling better and had regained my voice so we headed out to run a few errands and get groceries. When I'm not feeling the best I like to bundle up with a scarf, so this knit cardi and cosy purple scarf were perfect. I really liked the purple and pink accessory combo too, nice with the black and grey.

This grey tee hasn't been worn in a while - it's one of those pieces I tend to 'save' and skip over in my wardrobe as I want to wait until it's a 'better' day to wear it. Decided it's been neglected for too long as I last wore it 8 months ago so wore it anyway even if it was a quiet day.

Why I wore it:

The outfit above was so simple and perfect to wear, so when we were well enough to go back to playgroup I wore an incredibly similar outfit. Just swapped the black cardigan and jeans for grey ones, and a black tee instead of a grey one. Another easy neutral outfit with some colourful accessories. I think I liked this purple leopard print scarf with the magenta bag even better than the combo above.

Printed Jeans, Silver Flats and Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere

I have a large collection of jeans, but just like every other category of clothing in my wardrobe, I tend to have a few favourites I rotate between. When I realised I'd been wearing the printed jeans I bought in June quite a lot I thought I'd show some love to my other pair of printed jeans, my pink leopard print ones. Wore them both with gray cardigans, neutral tops and my Louis Vuitton Speedy bandouliere bag as it makes an easy outfit.

What I wore:

Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
TeeAtmos&Here charcoal grey v neck tee
Jeans: Portmans pink leopard print skinny jeans

Why I wore it:

Although it was just a lazy Sunday with the boys, took the chance to wear these jeans again as they are long overdue a wear. It's been 10 months since I last wore them. I really like pink and grey together and a simple grey tee seems the perfect pairing with such a busy print. Even though I frequently wear grey tees with these jeans, I enjoy wearing them so much I'm not too concerned if they don't get worn with everything in my wardrobe.

Why I wore it:

Cosy cardi and printed jeans combination again! I caught up with some of the ladies from my mother's group I joined when toddler T was a baby. It was fun meeting everyone's second babies - quite a few of us have had another baby. Printed jeans seemed like a good choice for something a little different from the usual blue denim, and the neutral navy breastfeeding tank goes with everything.

Skinny Jeans, Long Cardigans and Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere

While I've been doing a lot of babywearing this winter I've been prioritising my cardigans over my leather jackets. I'm lucky to have a little collection of cardigans that are keeping me cosy. And they look great with jeans, a SAHM staple!

What I wore:

JeansJeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this scarf I wore it with stripes too! It was the perfect accessory to add a little more colour to my mostly black outfit. Nice and simple for running a few quick errands.

It's been a while since I've worn this top and cardigan, but wearing them has reminded me how much I like them and they are definitely staying in my wardrobe. Need to try wear them more often!

The only thing I didn't like about this outfit was my shoe choice. It looks fine but I had pretty cold feet, should have stuck with boots.

Why I wore it:

I recently rediscovered this long sleeve henley along with a bunch of other winter clothing. I knew I wanted to wear it, but when the clean jeans available were these blue ones I worried it was a bit too monochromatic. We were in a rush for playgroup and I didn't have a lot of time, so I went for a favourite colour combination and picked a purple scarf to try break up all the blue.

I really wasn't a fan of this outfit though, I wished I'd spent more time to pick something else out. The blue top and jeans were just too similarly coloured. Even with the grey cardi and scarf I felt too matchy-matchy. I have this same top in black, wish I would have worn that instead. It looks okay in the photo but I wasn't happy in it, so a bit of an outfit fail for me. I haven't been able to find when I last wore this tee on the blog either so either I didn't label it correctly or I haven't worn it in over 4 years! It's definitely leaving my wardrobe.

Striped Mini MAC Bag and Jeans

As usually happens when I near the end of any season, I've been feeling a bit uninspired with my winter wardrobe. Easy outfit formulas are great when you're rushed for time with little ones in the morning, but they don't feel very inspiring. Decided to wear some loved but little worn pieces to try make getting dressed a little more interesting.

What I wore:

Printed accessories winter jeans and tee outfit | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe | AwayFromTheBlue
JacketJeanswest Alice longline Australian wool cardigan
Scarf: Supre neon pink leopard print scarf
TopAtmos&Here rolled sleeve oversize tee in black (also in grey)
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a babywearing consultation. I've only recently discovered that there are people who are trained in the art of babywearing and know how to use all the different options on the market. I've been thinking about getting another baby carrier for baby boy so booked in a consultation. The lovely Kylie came over to my house and I got to try on so many different carriers, as well as some much needed pointers to improve my experience with my current Ergobaby carrier.

Jeans and a tee was a nice easy and practical outfit, and the colourful scarf and striped bag were good to add some colour. The scarf was very welcome for battling the cold in the morning too. It's been four months since I last used this bag, it was good to get it out again.

Last worn: grey wool cardigan, neon leopard print scarf, black tee, skinny jeans, black ballet flats, canvas stripe mini MAC.

Other ways to weargrey wool cardigan and red jeans, leopard print scarf and striped maxi skirt, black tee and purple cardi, skinny jeans and floral kimono, black ballet flats and flares, canvas stripe mini MAC and a polka dot dress.

Tank: Target embroidered khaki tank
Jeans: Sass and Bide pale grey skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

I wasn't going anywhere special, just running errands and toddler T's swimming lesson, but I really wanted to wear my grey jeans again after getting inspired by Nikki. She wore hers with a lovely pink top, and I have a pink shirt I wanted to wear. However, the post-pregnancy weight loss has not extended to the boob region so I still can't button it up sadly.

At the last minute I realised this and was fumbling around trying to think of something else that would work when I saw this tank and knew it would look nice with the grey. I wouldn't normally wear a red bag and khaki top together but I think the different shades of red and green kept it from feeling to Christmassy.

I'm not sure how much life these jeans have left in them - they are really old and almost worn to death, which is why I stopped wearing them for a while. It was good to get them out again though, and if they do eventually get worn to pieces, distressed denim is fashionable!

Leopard Print Scarves, Leather Jacket and Jeans

Despite living in Queensland and not needing them often, I have three leather jackets and it's always nice when the temperatures drop enough to wear them. I picked up the printed one below from the Asos sale a few years ago. The print is a nice detail but as you can see in the closeup picture it's still subtle enough that it's easy to wear with other prints, like my lovely leopard print scarves.

What I wore:

Scarf: Sportsgirl animal scarf in violet
TankJeanswest Florence print long line tank (on sale!)
JeansJeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black

Why I wore it:

I loved everything about this outfit and wouldn't change a single thing. You know when you have one of those days where you put something on in the morning, feel great about it and have an absolutely wonderful day and make it to everything on time? It was that amazing kind of day. And that doesn't happen often with two little ones, haha! Really liked the purple scarf with this - thought it was a nice way to add some colour and worked nicely with the lilac bag.

Had a busy morning then lunch with my sister and we spent the rest of the day together.

JeansJeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black

Why I wore it:

As I really liked the leather jacket and leopard print scarf combo above, I tried it again a few days later with a different scarf and slightly different outfit. I like wearing my flares with Converse, they are really practical shoes and perfect for a morning with lots of walking. Went out to the baby and kid expo and was glad I'd picked my Converse as it was much bigger than the one I went to at the start of the year when I was still pregnant. Baby boy stared to get quite unsettled with the crowds so I ended up taking off the jacket so I could babywear easily. I'm not a fan of metal zips near baby's face when I'm using the baby carrier.

First wearing of this tee I bought in June too - a great basic. I'm a fan of the Atmos & Here tees, I have quite a collection of them now. They are soft, slightly stretchy and don't need ironing. Plus they often go on sale which makes them even more attractive!

Last worn: leather jacket (above), blue leopard print scarf, flared jeans, Converse, Mulberry Alexa bag (above). First time I've worn the navy tee as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearleather jacket and a skater dress, blue leopard print scarf and a striped tee, flared jeans and ballet flats, Converse and a dress in springMulberry foggy grey Alexa and pinstripe pants.
