Two Ways to Wear Pink Waterfall Sleeveless Jacket

I ordered this Peri drape sleeveless jacket from Jeanswest in the Cyber Monday sale. I've never been been a big fan of vests, as I usually layer when I'm cold and so want my arms covered. Lots of bloggers love them though.

I saw this in the sale and figured the colour and style were nice. Since I love my kimonos in summer, decided to get this vest/sleeveless jacket and give it a try for warm weather layering. I'm glad I did! Although I've worn it in two very similar ways here, with monochrome shorts outfits, you could wear it with a lot of other outfits and I've got lots more ideas for ways to wear this pink vest.

What I wore:

Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere | Away From The Blue
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace
Tank: Kmart navy ribbed tank
ShortsJeanswest 'Scarlette' printed shorts
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
NailsOPI Breakfast at Tiffany collection 'I got the mean reds' and 'Sunrise...bedtime'

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this tank and shorts together I shared how much I loved the combination and wanted to wear it again. Added the vest to make it a little different, and again I really liked my outfit. Was a lovely first wearing of this vest. Blue and pink are so nice together. Probably should have ironed the vest before I wore it, but was too eager to wear it. With two boys under 3, ironing is always low down the priority list!

We went down the coast to spend the day with my sister and I got to snap a quick OOTD pic on her balcony. Last time I had planned to do that I ran out of sunlight, so I was happy to get a photo there at last. This was the perfect outfit for a little travel and then spending time with my sister. We went to the new Pacific Fair where I returned the rest of my Jeanswest Cyber Monday order that I wasn't keeping and had lunch.

ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC (on sale in gold!)
NailsOPI Breakfast at Tiffany collection 'I got the mean reds' and 'Sunrise...bedtime'

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the monochrome tank and shorts with pink vest outfit combo above, I wore it similarly the next time. Hit a few Style Challenges on Instagram with this outfit, which again I really liked. Pink is a great colour to wear with grey. The only thing I didn't like about this outfit was the necklace - my selection is limited at the moment as I like to wear necklaces baby boy can grab and chew on, and this was the best of a couple I tried. I do like the extra colour it brought to the black and grey though. Had a busy morning with baby boy's weekly weigh then some time with my mum in the afternoon.

It's been over 2 and a half years since I last wore this grey tank! Definitely a good reason to continue with my 6 months without shopping challenge. I'm hoping I just mislabeled it in my archives and so can't find a more recent time I've worn it.

As it's the second time I've worn this vest, and I review everything I buy after wearing it twice in the month I buy it, my purchase review:

I'm petite so worried the vest would be too long on me and swamp me a little, but it's a nice length, even with shorts. During my wardrobe detox, the personal stylist advised pastels aren't the best on me. This is a slightly deeper dusty pink that I think works nicely.

Glad I bought this - it was a bargain, something I'd never tried before and something I still have lots of outfit combinations I want to try with it. It's nice to have something other than a kimono to layer with in warmer weather too.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), pink vest (above), grey tank, OneTeaspoon shorts, studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC.

Other ways to wear: grey tank and printed skirt, OneTeaspoon shorts and printed kimono, studded sandals and a maxi dress, Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC and skinny jeans.

#30Wears: Balenciaga Red Velo Cross Body Bag

During my 6 months without shopping, I'm aiming to get 30 wears out of as many pieces in my wardrobe as possible. Every month I'll be sharing 30 ways to wear something, from my huge archive of over 5 years of daily outfit photos.

This month it is the Balenciaga coquelicot (poppy red) Velo bag.

30 Wears: Balenciaga Coquelicot Velo Bag

Sharing an accessory this time: the Balenciaga coquelicot Velo bag. I bought this in 2011 and it has been worn over 50 times. (More if you include the year I wore it pre-blog). It ages so well too, very little wear and tear after years of use. Just like the black maxi skirt I featured for last month's 30 wears, it was hard narrowing this post down to just 30 outfits. The velo fits so much inside it's a great bag for many different occasions.

10 Ways to Wear a Balenciaga Velo Bag with a Skirt

The Balenciaga Velo bag looks great with any kind of skirt. Pencil skirts for work, skater skirts or maxi skirts for casual Friday or the weekend. I like wearing it with black skirts as it really pops.

10 Ways to Wear a Red Balenciaga Velo Bag with Denim

While some people worry about denim transfer with Balenciaga bags, I water and stain proof all my bags before I use them and I've never had a problem with my jeans rubbing off onto the leather. I've worn the Balenciaga velo bag with skinny jeans and shorts, the poppy red colour is perfect with all kinds of denim. It doesn't just have to be your standard blue jeans, printed jeans and even red jeans work quite well.

10 More Ways to Wear a Balenciaga Velo Bag

The Balenciaga Velo works just as well with a casual outfit as it does an office outfit. Printed dresses or black skinny pants, it really is a versatile bag. While some people might worry the bag is too slouchy and casual for office wear, it holds so much it makes perfect sense to take to work. The bright red colour is a nice pick-me-up when you sit it on your desk too!

I love handbags, they are my favourite accessory and I have quite a lot. While Balenciaga is one of the more expensive bag brands I have I do think they are worth the money and worth saving up for. That's why I have so many! I've included a few preloved Balenciaga bags below that are a little more wallet friendly, as well as some other brands.

Similar red leather cross body bags:

If you're unsure if you should buy the Balenciaga velo or another Balenciaga style, this video answers that question for you and compares a few of the common Balenciaga moto line bags.

Want more outfit ideas with the red Balenciaga Velo bag? All 50+ wears of the Balenciaga Velo in my archives.

If you enjoyed this 30 wears post I'm always happy to hear your suggestions for what clothing item or accessory to feature next!

#30Wears: Black Jersey Maxi Skirt and #6MonthsWithoutShopping

Introducing a new 30 Wears series on the blog and outlining my 6 months without shopping challenge.

30Wears: 1 black maxi skirt 30 different ways to wear outfit ideas | Away From The Blue blog

Why 30 Wears?

This all came about after watching a documentary on netflix: 'The True Cost'. If you haven't seen it yet I recommend it. It's a really interesting look at fast fashion. While I watched the movie last year it got me thinking more about my shopping habits.

With #30wears, before you buy anything, you ask yourself "would I wear it 30 times?". I already have my "if I buy it I need to wear it twice that month" rule to ensure I wear new purchases immediately and that they will be versatile in my wardrobe. I browsed my blog archives and was surprised that even pieces I thought I'd worn frequently hadn't been worn 30 times. In 2017, I'm going to focus more on wearing and enjoying what I already own and try hit 30 wears on as much as I can. This new 30 Wears series will initially be a monthly series. I will review as I go and post more frequently if I make faster progress on my goals.

#6MonthsWithoutShopping Challenge

It's no secret that I have a lot of clothes. Probably more than average. To get anywhere near 30 wears for everything have to stop buying new things and just focus on wearing and enjoying what I already own. So I set myself the #6monthsWithoutShopping challenge.  The rules:
  • No clothing or accessory purchases in the first 6 months of 2017.
  • Gifts (or products provided through blog partnerships) will be allowed and disclosed.
  • Attempt to achieve #30wears with as many clothing pieces as possible over the 6 months.
  • Any clothing that's donated, sold or falls apart can't be replaced until the 6 months is over.
  • Food, makeup, skincare, undies, kids clothes and gifts for others is allowed. The ban is only on clothes and accessories for myself.

I asked for and received a lot of gift cards for Christmas. At the end of the 6 months there will probably be a massive shopping trip celebrating the completion and using the gift cards, as I will not be spending them during the challenge. Hopefully I'll be shopping with an updated clothing wishlist and just buying what I need.

30 Wears: Black Jersey Maxi Skirt

Kicking off One Item, #30Wears is my beautiful Jeanswest black jersey maxi skirt. My sister bought this for me at the end of 2013, and I've worn it 39 times over the past 3 years. It works out to an average of at least once a month. It was actually difficult picking just 30 times I've worn this skirt to share, I really like it. I'ts starting to get quite worn now (not surprising given the number of wears) and so I picked up a replacement in the boxing day sales.

10 Ways to Wear a Black Maxi Skirt in Pregnancy

From the first trimester all the way through to 39 weeks, this comfortable elastic waist maxi skirt has seen me through two pregnancies. Elastic waist skirts are my favourite. So forgiving in the postpartum days too.

I've done No Buy July and No Spender September before, but never tried 6 months without shopping. Have you achieved it or considered it? Any advice?

Jeanswest Maji Metallic Tank Worn 2 Ways

Thank you to everyone who left a kind comment, said some prayers or texted, called, emailed or messaged me over the last week and a half while Baby Boy was in hospital. An extra special thank you to those who visited us. We are home now to enjoy Christmas.

---

One of the gaps I noticed in my wardrobe when spring arrived was some nice relaxed fit block colour tanks. I was thrilled to find this metallic one at Jeanswest. I had a gift card and it was on sale! It's a very pale green with silver thread running through it, and they have it in brown and gold too. It's on sale again, with 40% off.

Since the festive season is the perfect time to wear something that sparkles I've included a few more sparkly pieces for you to shop below. Ideal for New Year's Eve party outfits!

What I wore:

summer printed maxi skirt and metallic tank with purple accessories | Away From The Blue Blog

Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum, printed maxi skirt | Away From The Blue
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
TankJeanswest Maji metallic tank in soft green and silver (currently 40% off!)
Skirt: Izabel London Aztec print maxi skirt (C/O)
Shoes:  black slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in yellow!)
Nail Polish: OPI Koala Bear-y

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a busy morning. We haven't been house hunting much since having Baby Boy, only because it's so much more difficult touring open houses with two little ones. We're really picky with what we want to see. Two possible houses popped up in our searches so we decided to go visit them both, and finish a little more Christmas shopping.

Although neither house made us feel like it was the perfect house for us it was nice getting out and looking at houses, it seems to have been a while since we saw any that looked promising. I was happy to wear my new tank too. I added some colour with the accessories as it seemed like a pretty plain outfit otherwise.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, printed maxi skirt, Havaianas, purple mini MAB tote bag. First time I've worn the top as it's a new purchase.

Other ways to wearprinted maxi skirt in winter, purple mini MAB tote bag and winter layers.

ShortsJeanswest 'Scarlette' printed shorts
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC (on sale in gold!)
Nail PolishOPI Koala Bear-y

Why I wore it:

I liked the plain tank and printed bottom combo above so wore it again the second time I wore this metallic tank top. Although this time with shorts instead of a max skirt. Again I wore this to do a little bit of Christmas shopping! A little bit of sparkle with the metallic thread does seem so festive for December.

It's been a year and a half since I last wore these shorts, which is a crazy amount of time. I was pregnant last spring/summer though so that's partly why these shorts were unworn. It was so good to get them out again, a nice change from the usual denim shorts I tend to default to in the warmer months.

As it's the second time I've worn this metallic tank, and I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice, my purchase review:
I really like this tank, definitely a keeper. The subtle metallic thread and shimmer makes it a great basic piece that I'll be wearing even after the festive season. It fits my wardrobe wishlist need for more basic relaxed fit tanks and I'm really pleased I bought it.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), metallic tank (above), printed shorts, studded sandals, silver mini MAC bag.

Other ways to wear: printed shorts and purple top, studded sandals and denim shorts, metallic silver mini MAC and stripes.

Jeanswest Trinity Denim Shorts, Green Tops, Crossbody Bags

I mentioned back in October that I was on the hunt for more denim shorts for spring and summer. I really liked the longer bermuda length denim shorts I wore over my pregnancies, so was extremely happy to pick up these Trinity shorts in the latest Jeanswest sale. They are on sale again now, 30% off!

What I wore:

khaki tank, bermuda denim shorts, mustard yellow micro regan bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold | Away From The Blue

Tank: Target embroidered khaki tank
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts (new purchase)
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold (on sale!)
Nails: OPI Lincoln Park After Dark

Why I wore it:

Another easy outfit for Baby Boy's weekly weigh session and spending time with family in the afternoon. It was a little windy when I wore this but still quite a warm day, so a simple tank and denim shorts outfit was all that was needed.

I got the idea to wear this mustard yellow bag together with the khaki tank from a guest post on Shea's blog by Becky from byBMG. I really liked this combination and I'm definitely going to wear it again in future.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, khaki embroidered tank, studded gladiator sandals, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan. First time I've worn the shorts as they are a new purchase.

Other ways to wearkhaki embroidered tank worn two ways, studded gladiator sandals and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan and chambray dress.

TankJeanswest Jenni basic singlet in Emerald green
ShortsJeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

This is another one of those non-maternity versions of a maternity outfit I loved so much in pregnancy! While I gave my green maternity tank onto a pregnant friend, I have this non-maternity style in the same colour. The style challenge for the #RuleBreakersClub on instagram was the 'forbidden pairing' of green and blue, so the denim shorts and blue kimono were perfect. It's only recently I've started wearing green and blue together, I'm wondering why it's taken me so long to start wearing and enjoying the combination! Wore this to pop out to the shops quickly with the boys to get a few finishing pieces for their Christmas outfits.

I review everything I buy after wearing it twice to see how my new purchases work in my wardrobe. As this is the second time I've worn these denim shorts, my purchase review:

I love these! When I tried them in in store, I couldn't get over how soft they were. The sales assistant recommended sizing down and I think that was a great idea as they will stretch over time. The length is just right for my petite frame, not too short and not too long. These denim shorts are sure to be a go-to option this spring and summer. They are really highly rated in the reviews on the website and I agree with the high rating. I wouldn't change anything about these shorts!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), navy printed kimono, green tank, Bermuda denim shorts (above), Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC.

Other ways to wearnavy printed kimono and a grey tee, green tank and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and purple cardigan.

Blush Pink Boyfriend Blazer, Jeans and Blue Balenciaga Day Bag

With our unexpected autumn heatwave, I wasn't able to wear this beautiful blush pink boyfriend blazer much this year. I mentioned when I last wore it (in March!) that I was just waiting for a bit of a cooler day. Which didn't seem to arrive! Now it's spring and warming up and I need less layers it's been the perfect time to wear it again. Although it's from a Jeanswest spring 2014 collection, it's a great match for the 'rose quartz' colour of the year.

What I wore:

rose quartz pink plazer with monochrome blue breastfeeding jeans outfit | Away From Blue

Blue outfit pink blazer, Balenciaga tempete day bag silver hardware coach rainbow charm | Away From The Blue
JacketJeanswest Nadine 3/4 sleeve dusky pink blazer
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
Bag:  Balenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

I loved this outfit! The style challenge was 'my favourite colour' which is of course blue. I really like blue and pink together so this blazer seemed like a great topper, despite the warm day I needed just a little something extra to cover my arms.

Took the boys out to brunch with a friend which we had been looking forward to for a while. We've caught up now and then but a dedicated morning to talk over a couple of changes and events was needed. Bringing both boys along led to us cutting our date short when it drew near to nap time and not even yummy food would keep them amused. I'm lucky my friend saw the funny side of the situation, unlike the older ladies sitting a few tables down from us who kept glaring at me as I tried a couple things to calm an overly cranky baby in his ergo carrier while also convincing a toddler that it was time to hop back into the stroller and go home, ha!

Despite feeling a bit flustered towards the end I was grateful to get out and have some adult conversation for a while. The teething necklace bought us a few more minutes of quiet which was appreciated too!

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
Bag: Balenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, I'm really not sure about this one. I didn't feel great wearing it. This outfit got more love than the one above on instagram though so maybe I got something right!

I was trying to hit two style challenges again, 'pinktastic' and 'make it casual'. I also wanted to try these grey jeans with the blush blazer. I like all of the pieces on their own, I just don't feel it looked all that great together.

I was in a rush in the morning (as usual!) and trying to get the boys out the door for an appointment. I was thinking of what to wear in between getting them ready. When I saw the photos, the first time I'd seen it all together, I wasn't happy. Definitely an outfit fail. I think if I'd spent the time to pick a different bag I'd have liked this outfit more. Maybe something grey instead of my tempete Balenciaga day. I did consider it but really had no time. Even the pretty blazer couldn't make this better. A good reminder to myself to take longer planning my outfits in the evening when I have more time, so I'm more confident with what I've picked to wear.

Last worn: boyfriend blazer (above), pink skull scarf, navy striped tee, grey jeans, two tone ballet flats, Balenciaga day bag (above).

Other ways to wearboyfriend blazer in the office, pink skull scarf and a striped dress, navy striped tee and purple cardi, grey jeans and a trench, two tone ballet flats and a wrap dress, Balenciaga day bag and a maxi dress.

2 Ways To Wear: Printed Shirt Dress in Winter with Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

First, don't forget to enter my JORD watch giveaway!

I snapped up this Atmos&Here Nigella collarless shirt dress in August, after it went on sale again. I first saw it go on sale in July during my #noBuyJuly16 challenge so I was pleased I had the chance to buy it again when the challenge was over. It was easy to meet my goal to wear it twice in the month after buying it as I'd had my eye on it a while.

What I wore:

black belted cardigan tights ankle boots geometric print shirt dress winter OOTD | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff charcoal grey Love bag cross body | Away From The Blue
Jacket: Cotton On black knit wrap cardigan
DressAtmos&Here Nigella collarless shirt dress (new purchase)
ShoesRMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey (on sale in pink)

Why I wore it:

I was, as usual, in a rush to get the boys and myself ready and out the door for playgroup. This dress was the perfect easy option - just add some cosy black layers with a knit cardigan and fleece-lined tights and I was ready to go. The grey bag is the perfect neutral as it goes with everything.

It was so easy to feed baby boy in this dress too! Shirt dresses are great for breastfeeding.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, black cardigan, ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag. First time I've worn the shirt dress as it's a new purchase.

Other ways to wearblack cardigan and printed jeans, ankle boots and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag and a blue kimono.

ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey (on sale in pink)

Why I wore it:

I was a lot more leisurely getting ready the second time I wore this dress, a few days later. I tried on a couple of scarves and decided this one with the stars looked okay with the print of the dress. Of course, my leisurely start to the morning meant we were running a little late with getting everything done. I popped round to visit a few friends and drop off some invites for baby boy's upcoming dedication ceremony. I was constantly reminded of how late I was every time I glanced at my new watch, ha!

As I was rushing between people and places I ended up taking the scarf and jacket off as it turned into a really warm day. With it being spring now, I'll probably get to wear this dress bare-legged next time.

As it's the second time I've worn this dress, and I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice, my purchase review:

I really like this dress. I had my eye on it a while so was determined to buy it. I really like the soft fabric and while its light enough for spring and summer it kept me cosy at the end of winter. The only thing I don't like on this dress is that I noticed the bottom button popping undone a few times. Luckily it seems to the the only button that does that, but was a little annoying having to check it all the time. Especially at playgroup when I kept getting up and down with the boys. I think stitching the button hole closed a little more would help.

Overall, I'm pleased I bought the dress - I see it getting lots more wear, even with the annoying button.

Ways to Wear JORD Wood Watches and a Giveaway

If you've read my blog for a while you might remember last year when I was given my first JORD wood watch. It became a firm favourite to wear to the office as glancing at your watch in a long meeting is a lot politer than pulling out your phone to check the time!

AwayFromTheBlue JORD wood watch fieldcrest unisex worn 4 ways Bal and LV Bags

JORD kindly gifted me another beautiful watch. I was excited to start wearing a watch again, hoping it would help keep me on time for things. Really it's just become another way for me to see how late we are running! Typical of life with two under 3 I think. As well as a review, I wanted to show you some of the different ways I've worn the women's wood watches I'm lucky enough to own.

JORD wood watch Cora and Fieldcrest side by side comparison | AwayFromBlue

I picked the Cora watch as it's a little more dainty than the unisex Fieldcrest watch I have. I was also really intrigued by the purpleheart wood, which looks lovely with the mother of pearl face. As well as the little cut-out detail on the face to see the inner workings of the watch, the back of the face is clear so you can see all the cogs moving around inside which is fascinating - especially to a toddler!

JORD wood watch Cora purpleheart inner workings cogs | AwayFromBlue

Being a wood watch, it's splash-proof but not waterproof. It means I can wear it through all the constant hand washing that comes along with two boys still in nappies, although I do have to take it off when washing the dishes or showering. It handles stay at home mum duties perfectly. My Fieldcrest watch has held up to a year and a half of use and over 30 wears. It's also been tough enough to cope with being pulled off the bedside table and worn by the toddler more times than I can count, so I'm confident this Cora watch will last as well.

The ordering process was a little different this time around than last time. When you pick your wood watch, you can specify the size of your wrist and get it custom sized for you right out of the box. I used this feature, it's cheaper than getting the band changed at my local watch repair place and it fits perfectly. Being petite with tiny wrists and not always being able to find things to fit me properly, I appreciated this extra service.

The only downside I can find with this watch is that it's an automatic one, so it doesn't use a battery. This means if you get over excited and don't read the manual (guilty!) you won't wind the watch enough when you first set the time and you'll be confused the next day when it stops ticking. Once you read the manual and follow the instructions to properly setup the watch, you won't have any problems and the watch will keep the right time.

Just like my first experience with JORD watches, I was impressed with the speedy shipping time from the US to Australia and the absolutely beautiful presentation. I shared my delight at opening the box on my insta story. These wood watches make great gifts! They are so unique.
