3 Ways To Wear a Ribbon Scarf (and a Giveaway!)

A special giveaway today! You know I love my scarves so I was very happy when Liberty contacted me to offer me one of her ribbon scarves. I picked the pink one but all are beautiful! Despite my large scarf collection, I've never tried a ribbon scarf before, and I really liked this one.

With help from Shelbee and Liberty, I'm sharing 3 ways you can wear a ribbon scarf, plus how you can win one of your own! There are 3 to giveaway, one for each blog!

What I wore:

BagRebecca Minkoff Edie small crossbody bag in magenta

Why I wore it:

I wore this back in September and a longer sleeved top with a scarf and tights may have been a bit overkill for spring (especially with the higher than average temperatures in Brisbane!) but it was my first day back at work after being sick and I wanted to be cosy and warm.

With the neutral black henley top, ballet flats and grey pencil skirt, I used my accessories to add a little colour. This magenta Rebecca Minkoff quilted Edie bag goes so well with the different shades of pink in the ribbon scarf. The scarf kept me cosy and made me smile through the day with the bright colour.

Exactly what you need when starting to feel better - something comfortable to wear and some colourful accessories to make you smile!

Last worn: black henley, grey pencil skirt, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag.

Other ways to wearblack henley and a-line skirt, grey pencil skirt with navy and purple, black ballet flats and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag and sundress.

Perfect for pregnancyblack henley in second trimester, black ballet flats in third trimester.

I like how Shelbee matched the autumnal colours in her ribbon scarf with her outfit, the earrings are the perfect match and the animal print shirt compliments the scarf so well. Such a great neutral outfit! See more of Shelbee's outfit on her blog.

Liberty is wearing the beautiful neutral brown ribbon scarf with the cutest teal dress! As it's autumn for her she's layered up a little to keep cosy. The neutral scarf is a perfect accompaniment with the bold teal dress, and works well with the black pieces in her outfit too. Read more about her outfit on Liberty's blog.

Weekday Wear Linkup! Striped Maxi Skirts With Printed Scarves and Slouchy Tees, Rebecca Minkoff Darren Bag

Sharing some casual outfits I wore through the week for today's Weekday Wear Linkup!

You know I love my maxi skirts, especially striped ones! It's fun to introduce another print to a striped skirt by adding a statement scarf, especially if you're wearing a basic block colour tee. Such a simple yet colourful way to dress for spring.

What I wore:

ScarfFashion Scarf Girl zesty stripe tassel scarf in pink
Top: thrifted Cotton on grey tunic tee
Skirt: thrifted pinstripe maxi skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff small Darren messenger bag in peony

Why I wore it:

I loved this outfit so much! The maxi skirt is a delicate pinstripe so it looks more grey in pics, but I feel in person you can see the navy pinstripe a bit better (and in the bag closeup shot). I thought it would be fun to match the stripes on the skirt with a striped scarf, and this one added a great touch of colour to the grey outfit. I really like pink and grey together, so wore my Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag to add a little more pink (and to match the blush stripes in the scarf nicely).

A simple and comfortable outfit for a quiet Friday with the kids - we went to the playground in the morning, picked up a few groceries on the way home, and then did some baking. I made a savoury pancake that I used to make for the boys when they were little. They each took one bite and decided they didn't like it anymore, ha! Oh well!

Last worn: striped tassel scarf, grey tunic, pinstripe maxi skirt, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff Darren Bag.

Why I wore it:

A bit of an early morning photoshoot! I set my alarm a little earlier than the boys get up to have some quiet time to myself each morning - I read my bible, do a little bit of blog work and then get them up and get their breakfast before we all get dressed for the day. When I woke up on this Monday morning and saw the fog, I decided instead of relaxing to get up, get dressed, and go out to snap some photos.

I went out on the street to get a better pic of the fog, and passed one of my neighbours. Luckily, it's easy to explain why you're carting a camera and tripod around when the streets are so foggy - he was happy with my "taking pictures of the fog!" explanation and it was easy to move a little further down the street and be hidden by the fog so he couldn't see, ha! But I think I'll stick to backyard photos!

I'd planned to wear this navy tee as I knew it would match so nicely with the navy stripes in the maxi skirt, but I did have to add the denim jacket as I went out the door as it was a little chilly at 6am, even with the big bright scarf. I thought the navy and pink combo was a fun one, even though the blush pink Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag doesn't match the pale pink diamonds on the scarf exactly it was a nice combination. I ended up taking the scarf and denim jacket off later in the day when out with the boys as it warmed up so nicely!

Last worn: denim jacket, pink diamond scarf, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Darren bag (above). First time I've posted the navy tee and striped maxi skirt on the blog as they are recent purchases.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

Striped Maxi Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A striped maxi skirt is a great basic for mum-life, especially when paired with a plain block colour tee. For a little extra colour and interest, you can add contrasting accessories like I have here with the pink scarves and bag. Perfect for spring!

Shopping Haul: What I Bought In September & How I've Worn It

So.....after a rather large haul last month I wasn't expecting to buy much of anything this month. I ended up impulse buying quite a few things, with all of the sales going on tempting me!

What I Bought In September: Haul Video

In the video:

  • Kmart teal tassel earrings
  • Kmart mustard gold tassel earrings
  • Kmart teal floral print midi dress
  • Target Preview navy long sleeve collared shirt
  • thrifted cream and navy statement flat bead necklace
  • thrifted black and grey floral crystal statement necklace
  • thrifted statement gunmetal hardware necklace
  • thrifted Equip turquoise cream multi strand bead necklace

Why I Bought It:

With an event looming in October, I needed to find an outfit that fit the dress code. After trying a few options in my wardrobe I decided nothing was quite what I wanted to wear, and so I decided to hit up some local opshops. I had an idea in my head for what I needed to complete my outfit - either an accessory or something to go over my dress.

After spending a week looking for the perfect outfit topper I gave up and decided to go for an accessory instead. The difficulty with looking for necklaces that may work with a formal dress is that you can't wear the formal dress while thrifting, it's a tad overdressed, ha! So I ended up buying a couple of options...and then in the end my mum found the perfect thing in another opshop and bought it for me so I'm not going to wear any of the necklaces I bought to the event! I still like statement necklaces though so expect these to get some wear outside the event, and at just $3 each it was hard to say no.

The Kmart finds were kind of planned. My friend Jess had got an awesome earring haul from the Kmart clearance so I headed into the store to check them out, and ended up spotting this pretty floral dress too reduced to just $12 so that had to come home with me as well!

The Target blouse was a last minute buy at the end of the month - I went into Target to check out the clearance sale and this was reduced from $39 to just $10 so I had to buy it. Luckily for my wallet, none of the other bargains (tops for $5!) I tried on fit right on me.

How I've Worn It:

As you would expect from impulse buys, I didn't manage to wear everything twice to reach my goal of 'wearing things twice in the month I buy them'. A big flag to me that even if it's a bargain I don't need to buy everything I see! I need to take a moment to stop and consider how things will work for my life ahead for the month. After completing #6monthsWithoutShopping 2 years ago I was doing pretty well curbing the impulse buys, I need to make sure I don't fall back into my bad habits!

I do expect I will get wear from these pieces, but statement earrings and necklaces are not everyday wear for me and something I need to be considerate when I wear - pointy pieces are not good when giving toddler cuddles, and big bold necklaces are not the kind of thing I would normally wear to the playground with the kids.

Next month is "Buy Nothing New Month" and it would be great to achieve it this year! I do still have one Jeanswest gift card left from Christmas though...

The 30% off birthday sale at the Iconic is providing me further temptation, as is the Shopbop sale!
