Olive and Grey Worn Two Ways: Skinny Jeans and Marle Knit

I thrifted this grey knit for $1 before our trip and thought it would be wonderful to bring along to keep me warm - it was certainly much too hot for the synthetic fibres in Brisbane's hot start to autumn. The time I did wear it, I wore it with my trusty olive skinny jeans. Despite having the same outfit base, olive jeans, grey knit and Converse, I changed up the scarves and outerwear to try keep the outfits different.

What I wore:

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
Scarf: Mickey Mouse printed scarf from Disneyland Paris
Knit: Thrifted Spirit grey marle jumper
JeansJeanswest Vicki skinny pant in moss green
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

Wore this for our hike in the Pentlands. We were on a mission to see a Highland Cow or two but I had to stop and take a photo with the beautiful gorse / Whin bushes halfway up the hill. Despite it threatening rain and taking two toddlers along on a 'quiet' hike to see some wild cows, we did it! I was so thrilled to find some of the herd over another crest, just after the toddlers had given up. I came back to where they were sitting having a rest and we all walked up to see these beautiful cows in person.

While the boys I kept at a safer distance, I inched closer and closer for a quick pic. My confidence levels helped greatly by the fact that the cow had seem completely disinterested in us since we saw her, and her lack of horns!

After admiring the herd and the views a bit more we headed back down the hill before the rain, to enjoy lunch at Swanston Brasserie, another place I recommend if you're in Edinburgh. The hike up the hills works up an appetite!

Why I wore it:

No wild animals this time - although we did see some statues of them! 😂 We went for a drive out to the Kelpies at Falkirk. These beautiful statues are so very large and beautiful to see in person. We had a little ice cream then headed to the large playground to have a picnic. Which had seemed like a lovely idea the day before but I admit it was a bit windy out there in the open! Thankfully the boys were running around and having so much fun they didn't notice the cold, and I was grateful I'd packed this slightly larger leather jacket to wear as even with the grey knit underneath I was able to zip this up and stay a little warmer.

My cobalt blue Louis Vuitton scarf was a nice pop of colour with the neutral grey and olive, and helped keep me warm too being a wool blend!

Black Maxi Skirt Worn 2 Ways In Winter & Weekday Wear Linkup

I packed light for our Europe trip, trying to take things I knew I'd wear. A maxi skirt is a staple for me even in winter in Australia so I thought it would work well in Scottish spring - around 10-12 degrees Celsius, so a Brisbane winter!

This black maxi skirt is a breeze to travel with, and I kept it rolled up in my hand luggage as my spare change of clothes just in case! I wore it a few times on our travels, and today I'm sharing two of those ways I wore it.

What I wore:

JacketJeanswest black leather moto jacket
NecklaceTiffany diamonds by the yard necklace
TopJeanswest Frankie soft blouse in berry (new purchase)
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

Wore this outfit to be a little more dressed up, we weren't the only ones flying to Scotland for the wedding so we all headed to the airport to pickup someone, who sadly arrived without their luggage! A quick detour to some nearby shops later for the essentials to tide them over until their luggage arrived the next day and then we all went for diner. It was a day of a lot of excitement and good food. And I was thrilled to get an opportunity to snap a photo overlooking Edinburgh town - although I am completely blocking the view of the castle! 😂 You can see Calton hill and Arthur Seat just to the side of me.

This berry toned blouse was a last minute addition to my suitcase when it arrived just before we left. With a tank underneath, leggings and ankle boots under my maxi skirt and a leather jacket, I felt this was cosy enough for the day.

You can see more on my thoughts about what I packed and what I actually wore in my video below.

What I Packed: Capsule Wardrobe For My Europe Trip

Sharing what I brought with me and how much everything was worn - the winning pieces and pieces I didn't really wear!

TopDorothy Perkins 3/4 sleeve wrap top
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

Another slightly dressier occasion meant pulling out my maxi skirt again. We drove into the Scottish borders for lunch to an adorable little town, that sadly like most little towns hundreds of years old was not designed to have cars driving through it! It was a bit of a hair-raising experience for someone like me who isn't a fan of driving most of the time and hates parking, navigating a hire car down these little single lane roads with cars and houses either side. I was glad I'd snapped this pic before we left, I was not looking as composed when we did find a place to park in the end! 😂

Thankfully lunch was wonderful and the location beautiful - we were happy to sit and eat and watch the rain fall, it started to dry up before we left.

Again I layered this maxi skirt up for the cooler weather, with my blue wrap top, purple scarf, cosy leather jacket and hiding some tights underneath the skirt along with the ankle boots.

Black Maxi Skirts Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A maxi skirt can work just as well in winter as it does in summer! Instead of light floaty layers, think cosy heavier layers like scarves, boots, leather jackets, and even tights of leggings underneath the skirt! Works well when there's no snow around, and the ankle boots keep your feet dry and warm if it rains.

What I Wore To Stay In A Scottish Castle: Melville Castle Hotel

We attended a wedding while we were in Scotland, in the beautiful Melville castle. Some of the castle has been turned into a hotel, so we decided to splurge a little for our 10 year wedding anniversary and stay overnight there. I highly recommend it!

What I wore:

purple maxi dress coblat louis vuitton scarf as a shawl silver mini mac bag wedding guest outfit melville castle | awayfromblue

awayfromblue Instagram | melville castle hotel wedding guest maxi dress outfit spring
ScarfLouis Vuitton monogram shawl in bleu
Earrings: Ana Luisa 'Olivia' tassel earrings in pink
DressJeanswest Gigi printed maxi dress in shorter length (C/O)
Shoes: NineWest "Quicken" wedges in natural
Bracelets: the usual plus vintage silver charm bracelet
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

This is what I wore for the wedding. It is my usual wedding guest outfit, a pretty maxi dress and a comfortable pair of wedges. However I also had a tank layered underneath and full length leggings! 😂 It was only 10 degrees Celsius / 50 Fahrenheit so winter temps for this Aussie!

The Louis Vuitton shawl is wool blend so I tied it in the back to keep it on my shoulders and keep me warm. The venue was perfectly heated though, and aside from feeling a little cold when we stepped out into the stunning gardens to take photos, I didn't miss not having a jacket.

I picked the Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC as my bag for the night - while the boys were invited, I didn't carry anything for them as our room was so close by. The bride and groom also made sure the boys were catered for as well, with a giant bag full of multiple activities and toy cars and lollies waiting for each of them when we sat down for dinner. Such a sweet surprise. The ladies bathroom had a hamper full of all the little essentials 'just in case' from the bride too - hair spray, hair ties, bandaids, mints, perfume...etc! So thoughtful! It was an amazing wedding, beautiful venue and such a cute couple!

Last worn: Louis Vuitton shawl, blush tassel earrings, printed halterneck maxi dress, nude wedges, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag.

What's In My Bag & Review: Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
NecklaceTiffany diamonds by the yard necklace
DressZaful floral print ruffle hem dress in ginger
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Why I wore it:

The morning after the wedding (as another indication of how thoughtful the bride and groom were) we were all invited to celebrate with them in a post-wedding breakfast, going over the best parts of the day before and enjoying some yummy food. I wanted to be a little dressed up for this, so I wore my mustard floral print ruffle dress. Perfect for easy post-wedding dressing (hubby took the boys to bed early as I partied on until the end!) and the long sleeves helped keep me cosy, especially with the camel trench coat over the top.

I mentioned to hubby I wish I'd had more time at the castle - there were so many great spots for photos! I figured this spot from out the front before we hopped into the car and went to church was the easiest though, it's nice to be able to show you the other side of the castle.

I packed lightly for our castle stay, leaving everything else at our main accommodation, so I wore the same earrings and bag as the night before (although we also had the baby bag with us this time).
