Maxi Dresses For The Weekend With Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

The best thing about the warm summer weather continuing into autumn in Brisbane is being able to wear pretty maxi dresses like these without any layers.  I wore these dresses to two very different activities over the weekend, but they worked perfectly for each occasion.

Why I wore it:

Wore this to celebrate Baby Boy's second birthday. It's crazy to think my youngest is 2 years old now! While his birthday was earlier in the week, we like to have a party on the weekend for them so friends and family can enjoy the celebrations too.

I'll be honest here, the bag was mainly for show! I had my keys, phone and wallet in it so I could locate everything quickly and easily during the party, but I rarely wore it all day. Even though I went with gold and rose gold with my necklaces and bracelets, I think the silver mini MAC still worked.

To make this maxi dress outfit a little more dressed up for the party, I took the time to curl my hair in the morning, layered my necklaces to add a few more accessories than normal, and wore my pretty statement earrings. I love these but have to wear them sparingly as they are big and colourful and so tempting for the boys to pull on, haha!

It was such a fun party, and it was so good celebrating our little one turning two.

Why I wore it:

After a really busy week, I had pre-booked a massage as I knew I'd need something to help me unwind at the end of the week! It was a really relaxed Sunday, grocery shopping, a massage, then lounging around a lot playing with all the new toys Baby Boy got the day before.

With the silver mini MAC bag against the grey dress, the outfit felt a little plain, so I added the colourful green beaded statement necklace. I really liked this outfit combination!

You might notice I've been wearing this maxi dress a lot recently - I'm aiming to hit 30 wears on it so whenever I'm considering wearing a maxi dress I think of this one first. It's at 23 wears so far and it would be nice to hit 30 this year.

Knotted Maxi Dresses With Denim Jacket and Louis Vuitton Bag: Paddle Boarding On The Gold Coast

I have more maxi dresses in my wardrobe than any other type of dress, they are definitely my favourite! I wore maxi dresses below for two very different days, but the dresses worked perfectly both times. Maxi dresses just work everywhere!

Why I wore it:

It was such a fun day out when I wore this. We had some family visiting who hadn't met the boys yet so it was incredible meeting up with them and introducing them! The extended family headed down to the Gold Coast, and went paddle boarding at Palm Beach. A rain shower arrived at the beach shortly after we did but it turned into such a sunny day, the boys had an amazing time meeting family and playing in the sand.

The neverfull bag is one I frequently take to the beach, although with the rain I did wish I'd picked a different bag. It was handy to have though, held everything I needed and had space to put my accessories in while I enjoyed the water and sand.

The knot in the maxi dress was perfect to stop the hem getting wet and dragging as I wore it on the sand. It's not the first time I've knotted this maxi dress. I like how it makes it look a little different when it's knotted.

When the skies started looking dark again, we packed up and headed out to have a BBQ at my cousin's place. As you can see in the video below, we left at just the right time! I quickly pulled my accessories out and put my jacket back on and felt suitably attired for a family BBQ on the back veranda in the rain.

Why I wore it:

Not as casual a day out this time! I loved knotting the maxi dress above so much that I decided to do it again with this feather print maxi dress, which is on the longer side but I've still never had taken up.

Again with the denim jacket, although it stayed on much longer on this day as hubby and I had an appointment in the morning and most of the day was spent in the freezing aircon. No rain, even though I had my waterproof Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere bag instead of the neverfull tote I'd worn above. I kinda wish I'd taken the speedy to the beach and the neverfull to our appointment! I was glad of the denim jacket though, it was freezing in the aicon, and I needed it, even if I did take it off when we got outside.

Just like the first outfit, this denim jacket and dress combo has been worn together before, but I think if something works, why change it? I'm happy to keep rewearing combinations I like.

Maxi Dresses and Balenciaga Bags with Giant G21 Hardware

When you're not feeling your best, a dress is an easy outfit. Just pull it on and you're done, no need to try think about what pieces look good together. Printed dresses like these make it even simpler. Just pick a handbag that matches one of the colours in the print and you look like you spent a lot more time and effort getting dressed than you really did.

Both the maxi dresses worn below were when I wasn't feeling the best, and looking after a sick baby meant I had even less energy.

Why I wore it:

Despite being unwell, we had an appointment to get to though that morning, so I threw on this maxi dress. It's not the first time I've knotted this maxi dress, it's a good way to change it up a little. I did it on this day as I didn't want to do the 'grab the skirt when walking up the stairs' bit I usually have to do, haha! Tying it up made it easier to move around in.

Added the teething necklace so I'd have something to amuse the boys with as we waited at the appointment. It did help keep baby boy entertained for a few minutes. They might have passed the teething stage, but they still find these necklaces to be fun toys!

Picked my Balenciaga bag as it went with the Havianas and the black in the tie dye print of the dress, but also because I was feeling lazy. It had been the bag I'd used previously so I didn't have to move everything over into a new bag.

Another day of feeling unwell, another maxi dress! I picked this purple Balenciaga work bag to wear as I've only worn it with office outfits since I got it, need to wear this bag casually as well. It was a good carry all tote to take to the shops with me while the boys were with their grandparents.

I'd planned just a short trip out, to pickup a few groceries and return an incorrectly sized Christmas gift. I got away from the house and realised I'd forgotten the item to return, so turned back to go pick it up. In doing so, I came up to the garage at a weird angle and managed to scrape the car on it. Not a good start. At least the outfit looked good as my day was less than great! Spent the afternoon recovering from the crazy morning, thank goodness for Netflix.

Summer Maxi Dresses and Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere

Maxi dresses are such an easy summer option for me. I tend to wear any and all kinds of accessories with them too. While they are perfect with sandals, they look just as good with Converse, and with a Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere instead of a smaller cross body bag.

Why I wore it:

I wanted something light and airy to wear for a planned morning out at the markets, but when it was cooler and cloudy in the morning I thought I'd add some Converse instead of my havaianas, as it was predicted to rain. By the time we got to the markets though, we realised our mistake. The humidity was so bad and closed in shoes were definitely not needed. I was glad I'd forgotten to grab my denim jacket on the way out the door!

We managed to have a speedy browse before Cooper decided he'd had enough of the heat and we reatreated home again. Somehow still managing to pick up bags of treats and things for Cooper before we left, ha! He's such a spoiled little pup.

The Converse helped meet the style challenge for the day on Instagram, as did the dress itself. I picked the speedy as it's damier ebene and waterproof if the predicted rain did happen. It's also just the right size to carry the water bottles for the boys and my own essentials, as we left the baby bag and stroller in the car as we walked around.

Why I wore it:

I was excited to wear my new Christmas necklace with this dress - the neckline is just right for it! I was thrilled to unwrap this (and a bunch of other things!) from my bestie on Christmas, she always has such great taste and I adore everything she sends for the boys and I.

Wore this for a day that was just as hot as the one I wore the floral dress for above - but it was more bearable with sandals this time! Midway through our busy morning I got a few messages from Beth at Almost Posh. I'd found out from Insta stories she was staying nearby on holiday, so we quickly setup a quick coffee catch-up for that afternoon. After a bit of lunch with hubby and a little Jeanswest sale shopping to spend one of my Christmas gift cards, we met-up for a drink and chat. Beth is one of those bloggers I admire so it was nice to chat and pick her brain about Instagram, blogging and the juggle of a blog, work and motherhood.

Of course we discussed bags, and she even bought a clutch afterwards! It's a given that whenever you talk to me bags will come up at some point! I smiled that she had worn her Louis Vuitton neverfull tote as I had worn my Louis Vuitton speedy bag, although I completely forgot to get a photo of us together.

Maxi Dresses For Christmas Events (And Where To Get One Now For Christmas Day!)

It's no secret that I love maxi skirts and dresses. While I recently bought a lot of shorts for summer, you can't beat a classic maxi dress in December for all the Christmas related events. I almost always wear a maxi dress on Christmas day too, it's such a good choice. Comfortable for opening presents, running around with toddlers and nice and loose so you can indulge in all that yummy food!

The two jersey maxi dresses below are some of my fave wardrobe oldies. There's still plenty of time to order a maxi dress now and have it arrive before Christmas so you can wear it on Christmas day too!

Why I wore it:

I wore this a little while ago! We had our family Christmas photo, and as usual I went with the easy maxi dress option. I picked this one specifically as I'd bought the boys little blue poloshirts for the photo, and with hubby in a blue shirt too we were all perfectly themed but not too matchy matchy!

I had a bit of a giggle when we got to the photo area though - it was a blue background! We really coordinated! We usually go to Westfield for our photo, Chermside do pet Santa photos. Unfortunately they had cut their pet santa photos down to just 2 hours over the month and they were of course almost immediately booked out as a result. We ended up booking in with the RSPCA Santa Paws photos for the first time and while it was more expensive, the resulting photo was much better quality. Santa was very understanding too and they took the time to help and suggest things so we managed to get a good photo of us all despite our terrified toddler, who never got anywhere near as close to any other Santas we saw! I recommend them if you're looking for a photo with the whole family, we can't imagine our annual photo without Cooper!

Why I wore it:

Another Christmas event, another maxi dress! It seemed the most obvious choice for a Christmas party with the boys.  I like grey and yellow together, so when I saw one of the style challenges in Instagram for the day was 'bold hue', I knew I'd pick yellow accessories with this dress. I've worn the dress and bag together before, it's a nice combination. The little Christmas bow on my wrist was a fun addition for the party, and met yet another Instagram style challenge for 'tied'.

This was such a fun party for me to attend. Last year, we had been looking forward to it. I was in hospital with Baby Boy but we had been confident that we wouldn't be in there long, just a few days at most, which would mean we would be out for the party. Instead, we stayed there much longer than expected and the party marked day 6 in hospital as I continued to room in with Baby Boy. Toddler T's grandparents took him to the party solo instead. It was just a kid's party, but was quite emotional for me reflecting back on where we were last year. I didn't have time to dwell on it for long though, there was a lot to do and see and then we had to dash to swim lessons, and celebrate putting the Christmas tree up in the afternoon.

For me a maxi dress will always be a go-to over December. It's the perfect mum outfit as it's quick and easy to wear with minimal accessorising required, although you can add bright accessories if you want a bit of a pop. When I did my 30 wears post with one of my leather jackets, I mentioned that I'd been looking forward to wearing the maxi dress and leather jacket outfit combination more over winter. Why I wore it:

I went much more colourful for the next time I wore the maxi dress and leather jacket outfit. Had a crazy busy day. After being back at work, I'd found all the little errands I'd usually do during the week had to be crammed in on my days off, and so set an optimistic target of stopping in multiple places before lunchtime. Of course the boys were increasingly cranky and fed up being driven around all morning, so it wasn't the easiest of days!


Although we ran out of snacks buy the time we reached the final stop at Priceline, I was thankfully able to keep the boys amused long enough to have a wonderful chat and makeup trial session with Kaitlyn. We picked out all of the below makeup for my return to work.

I'm sharing this as I know a few bloggers gave me advice when I mentioned I needed new makeup that didn't make me breakout. My old stuff was over a year old and not entirely perfect. With the information I'd picked up from beauty blogs and a very patient and knowledgeable Kaitlyn, I managed to pick out things I'm really happy with.

I'm not a beauty blogger but I am impressed with all of this so far! I wear it twice a week to the office and have zero issues. The L'Oreal foundation in particular was expensive but worth every penny!
