Spring Layers: Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan Yellow Cross Body Bag

Although our recent wave of summer-like temperatures makes this seem so long ago, there were a couple of cooler days in spring that gave me one last chance to enjoy layering again. I picked some light cardigans to wear with my skinny jeans, and accessorised with my mustard yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag. It looks so nice with blue!

What I wore:

spring coffee date layered OOTD SAHM Style navy scarf grey tee skinny jeans yellow bag | AwayFromBlue

JORD COra purpleheart wood watch, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold | AwayFromTheBlue
Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Scarf: navy bird print scarf
Tee: thrifted grey oversize tee
JeansJeanswest Bindi skinny 7/8 jeans in indigo luxe
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

I was glad for a cooler day giving me another chance to wear this lovely scarf. Definitely my favourite over the past autumn/winter, it was perfect for taking off and on through the day as the temperature fluctuated with the rain showers.

Despite really liking this outfit, I had a bit of a sad day. Had a last coffee date with a friend before she flew out of Brisbane. It was wonderful that things aligned for us to have one more catch up before she left, but it was a bittersweet afternoon.

It's the second time I've worn this tee and I'm wearing everything I buy twice in the month I buy it to make sure I'm making sensible purchases. My purchase review:

I'm managing to get lots of use from this tee! For just $3.50 I know I'll get my money's worth from it, despite all of the grey tees I already own...not something I needed but something I'm pleased to have in my wardrobe. I need to focus on adding more basics and this is perfect.

Last worn: grey cardigan, navy bird print scarf, grey tee, prima denim skinny jeans, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan.

Other ways to weargrey cardigan and a maxi skirt, bird print scarf and stripes, grey tee and shorts, prima denim skinny jeans and boucle, black ballet flats and black jeans, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan and monochrome grey outfit.

Top: Kmart navy ribbed tank (new purchase)
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
Shoes:  Marc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in black or silver!)
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

I assumed that the next day would be just as cool, although I skipped the scarf just in case. I ended up being quite warm in this outside at playgroup when the sun came out, probably didn't need the cardigan. Again though I liked being able to wear a cosy layer once more before warmer weather stuck around and the cardigan was nice in the cooler morning and evening.

The yellow accessories went really nicely with the navy tank. I had planned more summery outfits when I bought this, but it was great to layer it up a little for its first wear for something a little different. I know I'll get lots of opportunities in the future to wear it differently as the hot weather is here to stay for spring now.

Last worn: marle cardigan, Jeanswest skinny jeans, gold mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan (above). First time I've worn the navy tank as it is a new purchase.

Other ways to wearmarle cardigan and maxi dress, Jeanswest skinny jeans and blush blazer, gold mouse flats and a wrap dress, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan and chambray skirt.

October Purchases and Clothing Wishlist

Almost the end of October already! Sharing what I bought and how I wore it.

Like I mentioned last monthOctober is Buy Nothing New month. I didn't meet the challenge as I couldn't resist the Shopbop sale...but I did browse more often in the op-shops (thrift stores). I managed to find some pieces I wanted there too.

A little over two years ago, I set myself a goal of wearing things twice in a month after buying them. I've recently changed that to wear things twice in the month that I buy them. It gives me less time to wear things if I buy them near the end of a month, and makes me think even more critically when I'm buying. Near the end of a month I have to think 'do I really need this?' and 'will I wear it twice in just a couple of weeks?'. Often I chose not to buy, which is great for my budget, and wardrobe!

So here's what I bought in October:

How I Wore It:

The only thing I haven't worn twice or more is the grey tee, but as mentioned in the video that's partly because I have a lot of grey tees and partly because I bought it so close to the end of the month.

Overall I think I did pretty well, especially after shopping so little over the past few months with #noBuyJuly and #noSpenderSeptember. It's made me use my own wardrobe more to see the gaps. While there are still some things I'd love to buy I haven't found the perfect pieces yet and so I'll keep looking. I'm going to try to not settle for anything less than perfect. It's not like I don't have any clothes to wear if I don't buy these things!

This is my current clothing wishlist:

  • white v-neck tee that isn't see-through
  • basic block colour relaxed fit tank without super low arm holes that show off a bra
  • boyfriend denim shorts (I miss my maternity ones!)
  • dresses I can breastfeed in
  • block colour maxi skirts

Pretty much just wanting to focus on adding more basics to my wardrobe! Would love recommendations if you know where I could find anything on my wishlist above.

Purple, Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Plum Mini MAB Tote Bag

First, #noSpenderSeptember results! After achieving #noBuyJuly16 and only buying two things in August, I decided to tackle a #noSpenderSeptember challenge, inspired by Beth from Almost Posh. I'm pleased to report that even with a trip to the outlets, I didn't buy any clothes or accessories. October is Buy Nothing New month and while I've considered doing another no-buy month I'm not going to commit just yet.

This year I tallied up my spend in June for the year and said it would be nice to spend less than that in the last 6 months of the year - so far I'm managing to do so! I think the change in weather bringing up new outfit options within my wardrobe has helped me feel more content with the clothes I already own.

When Brisbane started to hit proper spring temperatures I got all excited and declared it kimono season! I was quickly looking out my cardigans again not too long after though as we got some really wet weather.

What I wore:

purple tee prima denim skinny jeans plum bag navy floral kimono spring OOTD | Away From Blue

Tee: Spectrum basic v-neck tee in washed lilac

Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in blue and on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

There is not a single thing I'd change about this outfit, I loved every part of it. I wanted to try purple with this kimono, really liked the navy with the v-neck tee.

Took the boys to DFO (outlet stores) to pick out some cute outfits for an upcoming photoshoot. I got lucky when I visited the baby expo a few months ago and won a competition! The prize was a photoshoot and gift voucher. I'm looking forward to having some updated family photos, and wanted to try and get a little matching outfit for the boys.

Although there was a ton of sales and extra discounts and even a Jeanswest store, I stuck to my #noSpenderSeptember challenge and only bought lunch, I didn't buy anything else. I had no luck tracking down an outfit for the boys sadly.

JeansSass and Bide pale grey skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in black or silver!)
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'old faithful' so I figured these jeans that are over 10 years old would be a good thing to wear. I needed a cardigan to keep cosy as it was a really rainy day. You can't see that in the photos though. When a toddler distracts you as you are adjusting the exposure and you can't double-check the photos right away, you end up looking really washed out. ;)

This tee is leaving my wardrobe. I bought it in 2012 for $5 and it's been worn 7 times since then. I'm constantly looking at it in my wardrobe thinking I should wear it again. It's nice but it's a bit of a pain to wear (the back is completely sheer so I have to layer) and I have other tops I enjoy wearing more. Looking at it and thinking 'I should really wear this again' without actually wearing it was getting annoying too. Time for it to go.

Maxi Lengths and Balenciaga Bags

Every now and then I'll get a comment that someone who's short (but actually taller than me) wishes they could wear maxi lengths. You can! In some cases you might need to get things hemmed, or buy a petite length, but both the maxi skirt and dress I'm wearing below haven't been altered in any way to fit my petite 5"2 self.

A slightly more formal and more casual way to wear maxi lengths, both with Balenciaga bags.

What I wore:

brown cardigan pink maxi dress breastfeeding outfit for baby dedication | Away From Blue

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in black or silver!)
Bracelets: the usual plus silver charm bracelet
BagBalenciaga envelope clutch in 2012 mangue with giant 12 RGGH

Why I wore it:

I feel like I say this every time I wear this dress, but I loved this outfit. It is my favourite dress - even in pregnancy it never fails to make me feel good. Wore this to baby boy's dedication ceremony. It's like a christening, the baby wears a traditional gown but there's no baptising. You just thank God for the amazing miracle you have, welcome baby into the family and circle of friends and promise to tell them all about God. It was exciting having baby boy wear the same gown his brother did almost two years ago, it was my dedication gown too and it's been in the family for generations.

Wasn't sure if the weather was going to be as cold and rainy as predicted or not so added this cardigan. It was warm enough to take it off for the ceremony and the rain stayed away until later that afternoon thankfully.

I've worn a yellow bag with this dress before, it's a great combination. The style challenge for the day was 'lighter' so the bright colour and smaller size met the theme nicely. The clutch did spent most of the time in the baby bag though, as if I wasn't holding baby boy or toddler T or Cooper I had a camera in my hand taking pics.

Other ways to wearbrown cardigan and khaki tank, cobalt belt and boho dress, pink maxi dress at 39 weeks pregnant, gold mouse flats and skinny jeans, Balenciaga yellow envelope clutch and a lace dress.

Why I wore it:

A much more casual way to wear a maxi! This maxi skirt was an awesome buy when I was pregnant with toddler T. It stretched to accommodate two pregnancies (have to love an elastic waist!) and is still so comfy post baby. With this wrap top it was an easy breastfeeding outfit. Picked the purple scarf as I wanted a little something to keep my chest covered in the chilly morning after all the coughs and colds we've battled the past few weeks, and I really like blue and purple together. Ended up taking the scarf off in the afternoon as it got warmer.

Wore this for a relaxed day - went to view a house in the morning and then the in laws came over for dinner. The Converse and maxi skirt together met the 'kicks and skirt' Spring Fling style challenge prompt, and the black maxi skirt was perfect for the 'darker' theme of the TRMstyle challenge.

Balenciaga Pink Sorbet City Bag, Jersey Blazer and Jeans

I enjoyed carrying my magenta Balenciaga day bag recently, so thought I'd pull out another pink bag, my sorbet Balenciaga city. With spring-like warmer weather, I decided to wear a blazer rather than the cardigans I've been favouring over winter.

I tracked this cream Zara blazer down on ebay. It's soft jersey material and I have it in black too. I really like this cream colour as it's a great neutral and goes with everything. The soft fabric makes me happy wearing it outside of the office.

What I wore:

SunniesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Jacket: Zara cream jersey blazer
Scarf: navy bird print scarf
TankMEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo C/O Zibibo
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in black or silver!)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a lunchtime catch up with a friend from out of state. She was in Brisbane for a couple days for work and managed to squeeze a little bit of spare time to meet up. It was so lovely to see her. The weather was not quite so lovely! It looked like an okay day and as it was supposed to rain a little I brought umbrellas just in case. After we made the decision to head off it started pouring! Luckily the stroller has a waterproof cover, but I realised on the way home that I had left the spare battery pack for my phone in the now waterlogged baby bag!

This pink Balenciaga looks pretty bad when it gets wet but (as I reassured my friend) it dries fine and it handles the rain well. The sun does more damage to it through fading the colour than any rain, especially since I've waterproofed this bag like all my handbags. It wouldn't be my first choice to wear for a stormy day, but at least I don't have to worry about it developing watermarks if I do get caught in the rain with it.

Why I wore it:

I enjoyed wearing the jersey blazer so got it out again when I was trying to think what jacket would go nicely with the pink and grey outfit I'd put together. I did try a denim jacket with this, but it seemed to hit at an odd point on this top, I much preferred this blazer. Ran some errands, took toddler T for a haircut so he'd look nice for his brother's upcoming dedication ceremony and had dinner with the inlaws.

It's the second time I've worn this new top, so my purchase review:

I like it! It really is perfect for breastfeeding, and the fabric is softer (and a little cosier) than the navy one I have in the same style. The wrap top is kept together with a snap closure so I just need to unsnap it to breastfeed, really handy even though it's not actually a breastfeeding top. I'm pleased I bought this and see it easily getting more wear.

Printed Maxi Dresses, Vintage Chanel Bag and Different Backgrounds

Some different backgrounds for my outfit pics today! I've been blogging for over 4 years and while I've taken photos out and about in other places before, I've now fallen into a routine of always taking photos in the same spot each morning. It's easier than worrying about finding time and a location while we are out, especially when my hands are full with a baby and toddler. The other weekend I had the chance to take photos away from my usual spot without the boys in tow.

What I wore:

informal winter wedding guest outfit printed maxi dress Brisbane Story bridge | AwayFromBlue

vintage Chanel quilted lambskin flap bag, wedding bonbonerie | AwayFromTheBlue
Necklace: Australian coin and crest necklace
Dress: JayJays feather print maxi dress
ShoesNineWest "Quicken" wedges in natural
Bracelets: the usual plus Edenborough Evans 'Ivy' silver cuff
BagChanel vintage quilted lambskin flap (same in beige, and green)

Why I wore it:

Wore this pretty printed maxi dress to a wedding by the Brisbane river, with a beautiful view of the Story bridge. I had been stressing for a while about what I should wear, as I was going to be away from baby for two feeds and needed something I could wear to express breast milk in. I'm glad I went with this dress in the end. Worked perfectly for sneaking away after the ceremony to express in the car.

The only thing I didn't like about this outfit was the necklace - I was in a rush that morning and after having heard the 'Priceless' song on the radio the day before had been thinking about this necklace. After finding and detangling the necklace there was no time to try find anything else. I think a different necklace would have worked better with the neckline of the dress, and I probably should have planned out my accessories in advance. It was nice to wear this without worrying about baby tugging on it though.

Last worn: black cardigan, feather print maxi dress, nude wedges, vintage Chanel flap bag.

Why I wore it:

Not such a picturesque backdrop this time! I was heading down the coast for a night out and had hoped to get a photo on my sister's balcony. However by the time I got there and got changed into my dress it was dark and I'd forgotten the flash for my camera. I'd worn jeans and a breastfeeding singlet in the car there to express as I travelled. Not wanting to let the wearing of this pretty dress go to waste, I just took blog pics inside. As I can't feed or express in this dress it will be a little while before I get to wear it again.

It was nice getting dressed up and going out for the evening though, I had a really fun night. It was my first night away from baby since he was born, so I was slightly emotional!

Rebecca Minkoff Purple Mini MAB Tote, Skinny Jeans

Continuing to try think of ways to add some variety to what is feeling like a very uninspiring winter outfit rut, I decided to wear my cute purple mini MAB tote bag. It's a great pop of colour and while it looks great with a neutral outfit, I decided to add some more purple to my outfits too.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Wore this to spend the day with my mum. We went shopping and had morning tea with my mother in law. Sine I rediscovered this tank I've been wanting to wear it often.

I really like the blue and purple colour combination so I loved this outfit. Wouldn't change anything about it, it was easy to put on, easy to wear and kept me cosy on a rainy day.

Why I wore it:

I've mentioned before that I was finding these printed jeans tricky to wear with my printed scarves. I thought this neutral one with feather print would work nicely, but I was in a rush that morning and didn't realise until afterwards that I'd put it on back to front so you can't even see the feather print in the photos!

Although I was a little chilly in the morning with the shorter sleeves, I took the boys to the library for the books and rhymes session again so I was cosy and warm there. They have the heating cranked up for the tiny babies in winter, so nice on a cold morning!

Just like the outfit above, I really liked this outfit. Sometimes just changing little things like a bag can make you feel a little more inspired when picking what to wear.

Jeanswest Alice Australian Wool Cardigan, Printed Shirts and Skinny Jeans

I bought this wool cardigan at the start of Autumn after seeing it on the Jeanswest site, and I'm so glad I did as it's been really cosy for the cooler mornings. Being petite I wanted to try it on in store first before I bought it to make sure it didn't swamp me. I liked the way it looked and picked it up for 40% off. I love maxi skirts and dresses, and I credit my recent love of maxi cardigans on the Friends reruns on 9 Gem!

What I wore:

ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in black!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

I wore this after a really cold day and I expected this day to be equally cool. It wasn't and I was definitely overdressed in this when it heated up later in the day. The cardigan didn't stay on long as I ran between appointments. I optimistically had baby boy's 6 week checkup in the morning followed by my post birth follow up with a physio.

Although we made it to everything on time, toddler T's nap and lunch times got messed around a little and he was not so happy - I paid for it in the afternoon with a cranky toddler, haha! Thankfully we were home by then though. With two under 2, I'm not looking forward to the day toddler T has his first tantrum in public...

Why I wore it:

Another printed shirt, cardi and jeans combo. Although not the best outfit for the weather, I liked the first outfit combination so was happy to try it again. Busy morning taking baby boy for a checkup and spending time with my family in the afternoon.

As it's the second time I've worn this cardigan on the blog and I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice to make sure I'm learning from what I add to my wardrobe, my purchase review:

I'm so pleased I picked up this cardi - especially as I snagged it on sale before it started to sell out. I did wonder if the wool would be too warm for our mild Brisbane winter weather, but it's a lovely layering piece that keeps me cosy on a cool morning but doesn't feel too bulky. I'm pleased I bought this, it's been worn a lot already.

My bestie sent me the very cute Coach twilly I tied on my bag. I loved the way it looked, however the knot I tied kept coming undone so I'll have to think of another way to wear it that keeps it safe from little grabby hands. I wear my Hermes twillies as bracelets around my wrist sometimes, but that's not ideal for life with baby.

Last worn: wool cardigan (above), mixed print shirt, red skinny jeans, silver ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag. First time I've worn the twilly as it was a recent gift.

Other ways to wear: long cardigan and navy tank, mixed print shirt and shorts, print mixing and red skinny jeans, silver ballet flats and a wrap dress, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag and a maxi dress.
