Two Ways to Wear Jeanswest Black Luxe Maxi Skirt

Another one of my Jeanswest Cyber Monday sale purchases! I bought this maxi skirt as a replacement for my plain black maxi skirt that I felt was getting a little worn. I am enjoying having both skirts in my wardrobe for the moment though. This maxi skirt is part of the "luxe" collection at Jeanswest which means it's quite a thick jersey. The side splits mean I'm still able to wear it over summer though as it has pretty good air flow.

Followed a simple outfit formula the first two times I wore the skirt: a tank, a teething necklace and Rebecca Minkoff cross body bag. One colourful outfit, the other more neutral.

Why I wore it:

This is what I wore for a trip to the outlets in January. Hubby had some Christmas money to spend, although I'm doing 6 months without shopping. I'm saving my Christmas gift cards for a post challenge shopping spree. 😉

I employed my usual trick of babywearing. With baby strapped to me I couldn't easily try things on no matter how tempted I was by the awesome sales (Jeanswest had an extra 50% off sale items so the sales were good!). Wearing this new skirt I bought last year reminded me I already had new things to wear still as well. Managed not to spend anything and stick to my no shop challenge. As I last wore this tank over a year ago I definitely didn't need to shop!

Wanted to try a fitted tank tucked into this skirt to show off the drawstring waist. You can also see how high it sits on me because it's not a petite friendly length. Wearing it higher means I don't have to try get it hemmed shorter though. I picked the purple mini MAB tote bag as it tied in so well with the pink top and colours on the teething necklace. I really liked this outfit. I liked the pink tank and purple bag together last time I wore that combination too.

Why I wore it:

Took the boys out to rhyme time at the local library. Wanted a quick easy outfit to help make getting ready and out the door quicker. While the outfit formula is the same as the one above, with a printed and relaxed fit tank I think it looks quite different.

I really liked how this necklace added a pop of colour with the neutrals too. Out of the two outfits with this skirt, I think this is my favourite. I do prefer this looser style top for breastfeeding over the fitted tank. This printed top is one of my favourites and I wear it sparingly, wanting to 'save' it for special occasions. I'm trying to make an effort to wear more of those kind of pieces in my wardrobe. Not only because I'm doing the 30 wears challenge, also because there's point in having clothes if I don't wear and enjoy them!

Fitted Tanks Post Baby And The Mum-Tum (With Denim Shorts and Printed Kimono)

I have a lot of fitted tanks in different colours. I liked wearing them while pregnant but haven't been loving them as much lately. Partly because I prefer lifting tops up rather than pulling them down for breastfeeding and it's not easy to do that in something so fitted. Being honest though it's mostly because they cling so much around the tummy area.


After two babies in two years I knew my stomach would never be perfectly flat. I'm still happily rocking my bikini post-baby - despite a visiting obstetrician telling me during my last pregnancy that my stomach would be "ruined" and that I'd never go to the beach or wear a bikini again! I am proud of my belly, however lumpy it is. I love every extra wrinkle and am truly happy with my "tiger stripes".

However, with tight clothing you don't see anything other than a bump. Which I worry looks suspiciously like a baby bump from some angles. Although trivial, the awkward "nope, not pregnant" conversation just felt a little too stressful to handle! I preferred to cover my belly up in clothing and avoid giving anyone the opportunity to notice and comment. While it's easy to hide a belly in photos it's trickier in real life.

Since wearing these outfits I have had someone mistakenly congratulate me on my "pregnancy" and have had to point out that nope, I'm not pregnant, just got a mum-tum! And you know what? It wasn't as horrific an experience as I thought it would be. I just laughed it off and didn't get upset or make the person asking upset. I wasn't even wearing a fitted tank when it happened, ha! It made me realise I was worrying unnecessarily.

Wore this to run a few quick errands in the afternoon. I'd planned to go out in the morning but never managed to get organised quickly enough to leave before baby's nap, so an afternoon outing it was.

I really liked the colours in this outfit! I think the blue and purple are lovely together. The multi-coloured necklace tied everything together nicely.

Why I wore it:

Same kimono, different shorts and tank. I wasn't enjoying this outfit as much as the one above. I felt the stripes really accentuated the mum-tum and was feeling a bit self-conscious about it at the time. I also couldn't help thinking that my grey and white striped tank probably would have looked better with the grey kimono.

An okay outfit, but one of those that seem better in theory when you're planning them than they do when you wear them.

My clothes may fit differently but it's for the most amazing reason, one that I wouldn't change for the world. My body might change further when I've stopped breastfeeding but it might not and I'm perfectly okay with that. I DO have a rounder tummy and I am extremely grateful and amazed to have two beautiful boys as a result. I need to embrace it in every situation, even if it makes people wonder if I'm pregnant. So expect to see me wearing more of these fitted tanks over the remainder of summer. Lumpy post-baby belly and all!

You can hide a baby bump in pictures, you can dress in ways that disguise any leftover baby weight. Or you can keep it real and show it all off in a bikini. Your body, your business. Remember a photo never tells the full story, never compare your behind the scenes to someone else's highlight reel! Don't feel bad about how you look post-baby, every pregnancy and post-pregnancy journey is different.

Denim Shorts and Button Up Tanks

My five year blogaversary is coming up at the end of the week. I'll have a special post on Monday to celebrate the milestone and say thank you. In the meantime, since I was lucky enough to win this beautiful case of makeup, I have a mini giveaway over on youtube!

While I like the colours and the individual pieces of this outfit, I really wasn't too happy with it when I put it all together. The tank is quite long so I should have tucked it in.  I felt it looked a little off with the length of the shorts. Usually I love wearing this top, and I really like the pink with the purple Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB Tote bag.

I had just put this on quickly when I was running late in the morning, if I'd had more time I might have tried the tank tucked in.

This was a pre-Christmas rushing around for last minute pressies and a hair cut for toddler T. Simple and easy outfit of a printed top and plain shorts, perfect for a hot day. Unlike the first outfit above, I really liked wearing this combination. I felt much more comfortable.

When I last wore these sandals I was suffering from really bad swollen feet in my third trimester, over 10 months ago. This time around they were much more comfortable as I carried baby around in his Ergo!

Jeanswest Maji Metallic Tank Worn 2 Ways

Thank you to everyone who left a kind comment, said some prayers or texted, called, emailed or messaged me over the last week and a half while Baby Boy was in hospital. An extra special thank you to those who visited us. We are home now to enjoy Christmas.

One of the gaps I noticed in my wardrobe when spring arrived was some nice relaxed fit block colour tanks. I was thrilled to find this metallic one at Jeanswest. I had a gift card and it was on sale! It's a very pale green with silver thread running through it, and they have it in brown and gold too. It's on sale again, with 40% off.

We're really picky with what we want to see. Two possible houses popped up in our searches so we decided to go visit them both, and finish a little more Christmas shopping.

Although neither house made us feel like it was the perfect house for us it was nice getting out and looking at houses, it seems to have been a while since we saw any that looked promising. I was happy to wear my new tank too. I added some colour with the accessories as it seemed like a pretty plain outfit otherwise.

Why I wore it:

I liked the plain tank and printed bottom combo above so wore it again the second time I wore this metallic tank top. Although this time with shorts instead of a max skirt. Again I wore this to do a little bit of Christmas shopping! A little bit of sparkle with the metallic thread does seem so festive for December.

It's been a year and a half since I last wore these shorts, which is a crazy amount of time. I was pregnant last spring/summer though so that's partly why these shorts were unworn. It was so good to get them out again, a nice change from the usual denim shorts I tend to default to in the warmer months.

As it's the second time I've worn this metallic tank, and I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice, my purchase review:
I really like this tank, definitely a keeper. The subtle metallic thread and shimmer makes it a great basic piece that I'll be wearing even after the festive season. It fits my wardrobe wishlist need for more basic relaxed fit tanks and I'm really pleased I bought it.

I enjoyed the monochrome maxi skirt outfits I wore a short time ago so much that I wore the skirts similarly again! I liked these outfits just as much as the original ones. While it's summer here in Australia, I wore these in Spring in November.

Why I wore it:

A simple maxi skirt and tee outfit was all that was needed for a quiet day. A little bit of shopping in the morning and a doctor's appointment in the afternoon.

Although I've had both this tee and skirt for about 2 years I was surprised to look through the blog and see this is the first time I've worn them together! It was a nice easy outfit with a little bit of colour with the necklace and purple mini MAB tote bag.

This more colourful outfit was worn for a busier day. We had playgroup in the morning and then another specialist appointment for baby boy in the city in the afternoon. Thankfully my mum helped me with that last part, as although he'd run around at playgroup all morning it's still a big ask to have a toddler sit quietly in a doctor's office.

Blue being my favourite colour, of course I really liked the colour of this outfit. Not too sure about the length of the top with the skirt though. The front panel style means I can't really tuck it in a little (like I'd usually do with a long top) and still breastfeed in it. I did think the proportions were a little off, so I probably wouldn't wear these two pieces together again.

I love maxi skirts year round and while I wear them in winter, they definitely get worn the most over the warmer months. I've got quite a collection of maxi skirts now, the majority of them are striped! I like the easy go-to outfit of a tee and a maxi skirt. Perfect for breastfeeding too.

Why I wore it:

Navy and purple are so nice together. It's a combination I've worn a lot. When I got this skirt I knew right away I would wear it with this purple tee. Added the purple bag for a little more colour. Even though the purple shades don't match I really like the way it looks with the outfit. I was so happy with this, colourful and comfortable and perfect for our "viewing session" to review all of the photographs taken at the photoshoot I won a while back. There were so many great photos it was hard to narrow it down to what we wanted to buy!

This was another style challenge outfit. The theme was 'matchy matchy' so I went with the navy tee to match the navy stripes in my maxi skirt. Again I wore the purple mini MAB tote bag as purple is so nice with navy! I wore this tee with purple last time I wore it too.

Just wanted something simple and easy for baby boy's weekly weigh appointment, this was perfect.

November Purchases and Cyber Monday Sales

It feels like I just shared my October purchases, but we are nearly at the end of November already! If you are still Christmas shopping, I've included some Cyber Monday sale codes for you below along with my latest purchases. What I Bought

I didn't buy much in November and stuck to trying to find things off of the clothing wishlist I shared last month. I ended up taking advantage of a Jeanswest sale and using a gift card I had to get two of the things off of my wishlist. Both the tank and shorts were things I'd been wanting for a while.

I was really lucky to have a partnership with Glue Store and recieved credit which I used to update my denim collection for Spring. I bought three things:

I wasn't sure if I should include the three items in this wrap up post or not, as they were items I received as part of a partnership. This is the first time it's happened in the 11 months I've being doing this type of post, so it won't be something that comes up a lot. I also got a maxi skirt from my mum as an early Christmas present I've been wearing frequently.

How I Wore It:

I'm really pleased with my purchases, and how much I've worn them. Everything got worn at least twice. I didn't spend much this month, using the gift card for most of my Jeanswest purchases and using the credit I was given for the other items. I have been focusing on buying gifts for others as Christmas approaches, and hoping for some clothing shaped presents or gift cards under the tree!

Grey Tees, Black Jeans and Purple Mini MAB Tote Bag

While I kicked off spring by joining in a couple of style challenges on instagram, we had a cooler couple of days that left me a little uninspired, even with the prompts giving me ideas of what to wear. I ended up wearing a simple combo of black skinny jeans and a grey tee. However I wasn't completely happy with either outfit, both outfit fails for me.

Keeping with my usual posting method and sharing what I wore as I manged to get a picture of it, even if I didn't like the outfit.

What I wore:

Jacket: Kmart striped maxi cardigan

Tee: Grey 'making magic happen' tee C/O Shein
Jeans: Jeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black
Shoes: Walnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'monochrome' although I couldn't resist breaking it up and adding a little bit of colour with my purple mini MAB tote bag.

This outfit seemed like a good idea in theory but was a pain to wear. It didn't help that I was running late, but I felt this tee kept sliding around and wouldn't sit right for photos. It annoyed me as I wore it through the day too, but I'm not sure how much of my bad mood was coming from our failed shopping trip that morning! I just popped out to get something quickly but you can never do anything too quickly with a baby and a toddler in tow...


Last worn: striped duster, making magic happen tee, black Prima jeans, black ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff purple mini MAB tote bag.

Why I wore it:

Baby boy had his vaccinations, so in anticipation of having a tough day I'd planned a simple outfit. Just like the grey tee and black skinny jeans combo above, although with a little more colour from the purple cardigan and some print mixing with the scarf and jeans. The jeans met the 'special' style challenge prompt too as they always feel a little more special to wear than plain blue jeans.

I really liked this outfit - comfortable for running a few errands, getting baby boy's vaccinations and then spending the afternoon with my sister. I added the scarf at the last minute as it looked like it might be a cooler day that morning but quickly took it off as it warmed up. I wish I'd just left it at home, I don't think it looks quite right and I much preferred the outfit without it.

Aside from the scarf not really working with the rest of what I was wearing, I did really like the rest of this outfit and I had a fun day wearing it.
