Two Ways To Wear: Sass and Bide Playman Printed Skinny Jeans

Near the end of June I stumbled across these jeans on ebay. I try not to buy things too close to the end of the month so I can get a few wears out of them before the month ends, but I really liked the print on these and the bargain price so snapped them up. Wore them pretty close together to meet my goal of two wears out of everything I buy within a month.

What I wore:

Sass and Bide Playman Printed Skinny Jeans black clothes red Alexander McQueen Skull scarf bright accessory | Away From Blue

handheld smooshy Mulberry foggy grey buffalo leather Alexa satchel | AwayFromTheBlue
JacketAsos Black by Markus Lupfer printed leather jacket
ScarfAlexander McQueen red skull-print modal and cashmere-blend scarf
TopJeanswest 'Tilda' black shirt
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans (new purchase)
ShoesRMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale!)
BagMulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey

Why I wore it:

While these are a bit of a statement jean, their first outing was actually a pretty boring errand running day! I was eager to wear them soon after they arrived though. Even though the Mulberry Alexa is a purpley-grey I went with the red scarf although they don't match as I thought it added a nice bit of colour to all of the black.

I tucked the jeans into the boots but it wasn't a great idea, as there are zipper details on the back it wasn't the most comfortable way to wear them.

Last worn: leather jacket, Alexander McQueen skull scarf, black top, ankle boots, Mulberry Alexa. First time I've worn the jeans as they are a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearleather jacket and a shift dress, skull scarf and plaid, black top and a baby bump, ankle boots in spring, Mulberry Alexa and a maxi skirt.

More printed jeans under $100:

What I wore:

TopDorothy Perkins 3/4 sleeve wrap top
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagMulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey

Why I wore it:

Layered up or a really chilly day! None of my scarves seemed to look quite right next to the chevron print on these jeans but with the low neckline on this top I wanted something around my neck. Decided to wrap this one around my neck a few times to keep it away from the print and stop them 'competing' with each other. It would have been better if I'd spent a little extra time tying the scarf into  a proper snood style so it stayed in place, as it kept unravelling and driving me crazy.

I regretted all the warm layers when we got to the library. We went for the baby and toddler session and they'd heated up the room for the tiny babies. I was pulling everything off and wishing I'd gone with my short sleeved wrap top instead!

As it's the second time I've worn these jeans, my purchase review:

They are proving trickier to style than I imagined and don't work well with ankle boots, but I really do like the print on these and I enjoy wearing them. Printed jeans aren't as easy to throw on as blue jeans, but it's good to change things up a little and I don't mind thinking a little more about what to wear with these. I have a few more outfits in mind for them, they are definitely sticking around. Jeans aren't something I have a shortage of but I've been looking for more printed pants lately so I'm pleased with these.

Other ways to weargrey longline cardigan and flares, Marc Jacobs printed scarf in the office, blue wrap top and a maxi skirt, silver ballet flats and a tartan pencil skirt, Mulberry Alexa and denim shorts.

Skinny Jeans, Colourful Scarves and Cosy Cardigans | 4th July Sales

With the cooler winter weather in Brisbane, I've been wearing my jeans a lot. After our summer heatwaves continued into autumn and I spent most of autumn in shorts, it's a nice change. Jeans also make getting dressed in the mornings with two little ones really easy. And adjusting to life with two under 2 means I'll stick with the easy path for the moment!

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Alice longline Australian wool cardigan
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal skull scarf in white/pink
ShirtJeanswest Helene sleeveless textured shirt in berry (on sale with an extra 40% off!)
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'pink till it hurts' which I had originally planned to do by wearing all pink accessories. After putting the pink tank and scarf on though I quickly realised adding any more pink to the mix would be a bit of an overkill! Was a nice casual (and with the buttons on the tank for breastfeeding, practical) outfit for errands in the morning and spending some time with family in the afternoon.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, wool cardigan, pink skull scarf, pink sleeveless shirt, skinny jeans, metallic ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC.

Other ways to wearwool cardigan and a maxi skirt, pink skull scarf and navy stripes, pink shirt and lace pencil skirt in the office, skinny jeans and a floral kimono, metallic ballet flats and a tartan skirt, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and denim shorts.

It's the 4th July long weekend in the US, so there are a few sales on:

Happy shopping!

What I wore:

JacketJeanswest Peggie kimono cardigan in purple mulberry marle
Scarf: blue tartan scarf
Tee: Monsterthreads star print graphic tee
JeansJeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

I went with a simple scarf to meet the prompt for the 'plaid is rad' challenge. I really like this pretty tartan scarf my sister brought me back from her travels in Europe.

This was a really simple outfit for a simple day. We had been having a tough couple of days and although I had planned at the start of the week to go out to playgroup, decided to stay home instead. Having a baby is a great reason to be kind and take time for yourself when you need it, and not try do too much. Having two under 2 is an even bigger reason! Since toddler T enjoys doing some activities out of the house each day, I decided to take the boys to the local park. It was a bit chilly so toddler T had the slide all to himself too.  It was a nice quiet alternative to a noisy playgroup and gave us a chance to relax a little.

Monthly Purchases: June

May was a pretty big shopping month for me, so I decided not to buy much in June...then the Iconic had an extra % off sale items. I couldn't resist picking up a maxi skirt I' d had my eye on for months after seeing it on Beth's blog, and of course I had to add in a few extra things to get free shipping ;)

In the end I only kept 3 of the things I'd ordered and returned another 3 so I'm quite pleased I didn't buy too much this month. Definitely going to be doing No Buy July again this year though! No clothes or accessories purchases for the next month. I didn't quite achieve it last year, hopefully I can do better this year! Here's what I bought before starting #NoBuyJuly16.

What I bought in June:

How I wore my purchases:

I have a goal of wearing things twice in a month after buying them. By setting myself this goal I'm making sure I'm only buying things I'll actually use now, and not just store in my wardrobe with the tags on. My wardrobe is full enough already! I'm trying to make sure I buy versatile pieces I can wear a few different ways too. I've started a Ways to Wear series to show the different ways I've been wearing what I bought. Really pleased I managed to wear everything twice this month!

Since we are halfway through the year already, I thought I'd do a tally on my spending so far. (I got this idea from Beth too, it's not just shopping inspiration she gives me!) I've spent a total of $1,510.77 which averages $251.80 a month. Most months, like this month, I'm well under that total. Considering I've bought 3 handbags this year I'm surprised the total is relatively low, but I'm hoping that for the second half of the year I can spend even less.

Henley, Scarf and Maxi Skirt: Comfortable SAHM Winter Outfit

As I mentioned in my previous post, I'll happily wear maxi skirts year round, as we don't have snow to contend with over winter in Brisbane. I have been looking out my long sleeved tops to wear with them now though! I have a few long sleeved henley tops, they are a nice casual option and perfect stay at home mum wear.

What I wore:

Easy SAHM style in winter: striped henley, cobalt scarf, black ejrsey maxi skirt neon pink bag | Away From The Blue

Silver bracelet stack, black maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC | AwayFromTheBlue
SunniesRay-Ban new Wayfarers (30% off at Nordstrom!)
ScarfMarc by Marc Jacobs bright blue stole
TopJeanswest 'Marina' stripe henley
SkirtJeanswest plain jersey black maxi skirt
Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

This was a really simple outfit. It was a cold morning, I was recovering from the cold and baby boy was sick as well, but toddler T was fully recovered and ready to play! I did contemplate wearing my trackie dacks (sweats/joggers) to go out... I usually reserve those for at home wear only.

I had to change my top anyway thanks to baby boy, so I picked out this maxi skirt at the same time I was choosing the henley. The jersey fabric is just as comfortable as my trackie dacks but because it's a maxi skirt it looks a lot more pulled together.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, striped henley, black jersey maxi skirt, Marc Jacobs ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff pink mini MAC. First time I've worn the cobalt scarf as it is a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearstriped henley and denim shorts in spring, black jersey maxi skirt and a baby bump, Marc Jacobs ballet flats and skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff pink mini MAC and navy kimono.

More henley tops under $50:

TopJeanswest 'Aubrey' pintuck yoke henley in deep teal
Skirt: Target grey marle maxi skirt
ShoesRMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale here!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

I adored this outfit. When I saw the blue and teal skull print scarf I knew I wanted to wear it with this top. While the scarf was on massive sale and a great price, thinking of this top with it is what made me add it to my cart. I felt stylish, pulled together, was over my cold...and then baby spat up all over my shoulder. Didn't feel so great then, haha!

It's one of the reasons I'm glad I got into the habit before kids of taking photos of my outfits each morning when I go out - with two boys under 2 my clothes never stay clean long! By the end of the day at least one of us has had to change what we are wearing, and I'm likely to be in my pyjamas or the above mentioned trackie dacks.

I'm reviewing everything I buy after wearing it twice to make sure I'm making smart purchases, so my purchase review for this scarf:
I'm glad I bought this. I know I have a lot of scarves but I was feeling like I needed to add some blue ones to my collection. As this one is woolen, it's cosy and perfect for winter.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), blue and green skull scarf, teal henley, grey marle maxi skirt, black ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC.

Other ways to wear: skull scarf and stripesteal henley and a striped skirt, grey maxi skirt and a green tank in summer, black ankle boots and a grey skater dress, aqua mini MAC and a navy kimono.

Black Tops, Skinny Jeans, Scarves, Cardigans and Colourful Bags

With the winter weather here in Brisbane, I've been able to layer and get my ankle boots out again. With all the layering, I've been wearing my neutral tops from my wardrobe. Below are two outfits with plain black tops. Black is the easiest colour to wear when layering as it goes with everything.

What I wore:

JacketJeanswest brown marle waterfall cardigan
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
TankZalora basics ruffle hem tank in black
Jeans: Emerson red skinny jeans
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale here!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit! It's been a while since I wore these red jeans as I couldn't wear them when I was pregnant. The black and brown seemed like the easiest things to wear with them as I was running around trying to get the boys organised for the day. It's not always easy getting two under 2 out the door on time, but some mornings (like this day) everything seems to take twice as long. Neutral layers were the easy options.

I hadn't planned out what I was going to wear the night before like I usually do, I'd just decided I'd wear the red jeans, so I was pleased with how well this all came together in such a hurry.

BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC (on sale and an extra 25% off with code 'EXTRA25!')

Why I wore it:

This was another unplanned, super easy outfit with a plain black top making getting dressed easy. Baby boy had his checkup at the clinic, and I was sadly starting to come down with toddler T's cold! He was kind enough to pass it on to all of us...

Cosy layers were needed to make getting out early in the morning more appealing. This grey wool cardigan is so comfortable to wear, and cosy. It's like wearing a bathrobe! I thought that with a neutral outfit, the purple scarf would be a nice way to add some colour along with the neon pink mini MAC bag.

While we didn't do much, just the clinic appointment and then spending time with family in the afternoon, I really liked this outfit. Often the simplest outfits are the ones we like and repeat the most!

Striped Maxi Skirts in Winter with Grey Cardigans

Maxi skirts are an all-season wardrobe must have for me. It's not just that the stretchy waistbands and comfortable fabrics are nice on a post-baby belly, they are also a great length for running around after a toddler. Brisbane doesn't get any snow over winter so with enough layers I happily wear them in winter too.

What I wore:

Petite winter maxi skirt outfit long loose layers skull scarf and stripes | Away From The Blue

Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC | AwayFromTheBlue
Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
ScarfAlexander McQueen Azure wool skull scarf (new purchase)
TeeFrench Connection oversized khaki green tee
Skirt: Target black and white striped maxi skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in grey)
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

It was a busy day - we had playgroup in the morning and my 6 week post-birth checkup in the afternoon. I dressed in layers as I knew it would be cold at the playground but warmer in the afternoon. With the waterfall drape of the cardigan and the long line of the scarf I did worry my petite frame would be overwhelmed a little, but it was so comfortable when I tried it on. I was really happy in this - and the layers worked out perfectly as it did heat up a lot during the day.

It's been a long time since I last wore this khaki tee - I hunted it out again after really liking the khaki tank I bought last month, wanted to see if this was still a keeper in my wardrobe. While I don't like it as much as the tank, it's a great basic so it's staying for now.

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, I really wasn't impressed when I wore this, although it seemed like a good idea when I planned it out. We had an appointment to get to in the morning though so I didn't have any time to change. I hated this outfit more and more as the day went on. It seemed like a fun idea, stars and stripes, but I was so happy to change out of this at the end of the day. Definitely an outfit fail for me. All the pieces on their own are lovely, but together I wasn't enjoying them.

Neon: Printed Tops, Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Purple Mini MAB Tote Bag

Two simple jeans outfits with a little burst of neon to add some colour. Probably the last short sleeved outfit for a while now too, since the winter weather has definitely arrived here in Brisbane.

What I wore:

Away From Blue Orange and Purple Outfit Sass & Bide Tee flares and flats

AwayFromTheBlue | Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum faux fur pom pom bag charm
TeeSass and Bide 'New Day Rising' tee in orange leopard print
Jeans:  Jeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in navy!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

A nice, easy outfit to go to playgroup with two under 2. I'd been looking at things in my wardrobe I hadn't worn for a while and decided to give this tee a wear. It's been a year and a half since it was last worn! It was hidden away right at the back of my wardrobe. It's fun to wear but I do tend to go the safe route with something so bright and just wear it with jeans.

Decided to contrast the bright orange tee with the purple bag. I've worn it like this before. Purple and orange is a fun colour combination I picked up from Sheila, I get all my best colour combination ideas from her. She inspires me to try be more adventurous with colours!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Sass & Bide neon tee, flared jeans, gold mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB.

Other ways to wearSass & Bide neon tee and skinny jeans, flared jeans and Converse, mouse flats and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB and denim shorts.

Why I wore it:

A little bit of neon with the pink skull scarf, a souvenir from a trip to Melbourne. I thought the pink scarf and purple mini MAB bag were nice colourful accessories against the neutrals.

Another casual outfit - caught up with a friend to swap stories about what the past couple of months has held for us. Admittedly, her stories and adventures were a lot more interesting than mine! I enjoyed the adult conversation for a change. While it's wonderful catching up with other mums and talking kids and everything that involves, it's good to talk about other things now and then.

Maxi Skirts, Alexander McQueen Skull Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAB Tote Bag

With the autumn temperatures slowly starting to arrive, it's been good to get my scarf collection out again. While baby is small I'm avoiding necklaces or extra bracelets he could get tangled in, but a scarf is so easy to remove when feeding and soft for baby to snuggle into.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Had some shopping to do in the morning and family came to visit in the afternoon. Wanted to add some colour to the black outfit with the colourful scarf and bag. Maxi skirt, stripes and colourful accessories - such a simple and practical outfit. I really liked wearing this.

Why I wore it:

Because I really liked the maxi skirt and skull scarf combo above, I tried it again. And again I really liked it. Perfect for the daycare drop off / pick up and a doctor's appointment in the afternoon. I've worn the tee and skirt and the tee and scarf together before.

Wasn't sure if the burgundy tee and purple bag would go together though. I actually googled for 'burgundy purple outfits' during baby boy's late night feed (when I usually plan what I'll wear for the day!) to try and figure out if my outfit idea would work! I'm glad I gave it a go though. It was good to try a little something different and I think the purple looks nice with the burgundy.
