Balenciaga Tempete Day Bag With Ruffle Camis and Pencil Skirts For The Office

Continuing the 30 wears challenge is one of my goals for this year, but at the same time I want to make sure I'm wearing as much of my wardrobe as possible. It's a balancing act between rewearing pieces that are close to the 30 wears number, and not neglecting the other pieces in my wardrobe that aren't. I'd noticed I hadn't worn any of my camis at all this summer, so it was time to pull them out again! Camis look great work to the office with some textured pencil skirts and a blazer.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Id' planned this outfit in advance the weekend before. Usually I plan my outfits the evening before, to help me get ready faster in the mornings. I was feeling a bit stressed on Sunday night though before a big Monday so decided to play in my wardrobe a bit to relax, and pulled this together. I've worn orange and blue together before, but this is the first time I've paired this blue lace pencil skirt with peach. I really liked this combination of colours.

Wasn't entirely sure that the cami untucked looked as good as I thought though - I preferred it without the blazer. The spaghetti straps on the cami mean a coverup was required at work, but I didn't check the blazer addition before I left the house. I think tucking in the cami would have looked better. Otherwise, I really liked this outfit. Perfect for a hot day as I took the jacket off whenever I was outside and had it to keep me warm in the aircon at my desk.

Why I wore it:

Another day in the office, another opportunity to wear a cami and textured pencil skirt. After not being too sure about the untucked top above, I tucked the cami into the skirt this time, and I preferred this look.

I continue to be impressed by how well this mesh layer skirt is holding up, coming up to having it 6 years now. It has only been worn 13 times in that period though. It's not the first time I've paired it with this white ruffle cami, I love the combination so it makes sense I'd repeat it. This time, instead of the grey cardigan I wore it with the black blazer.

Kept the blue Balenciaga bag with this, I like blue and pink together and I thought that the necklace tied it in nicely. There was a style challenge on Instagram too and I thought the colour of the day was blue, but I was a day early and it was supposed to be green. I enjoyed the blue accessories anyway.

Ruffle Camis Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A cami is one of those pieces that you can wear for work or weekend! If your office dress code means spaghetti straps aren't an option, you can go for one with thicker straps, or cover up with a blazer. Adding a blazer to anything is my favourite way to make it ready for a business casual office.

30 Ways To Wear Somedays Lovin' Yakuza Print Grey Floral Kimono: #30Wears Series

New month (how is it December already?!) a new #30wears post, showing some different ways to wear this grey floral print kimono. When I first got this kimono in 2016, I wore it a lot. So much so that I was sure I'd hit 30 wears on it and was surprised at the end of that summer to realise I hadn't! 30 wears doesn't sound like that much for pieces you love, but as I've shared before, if you do the maths it takes 15 months if you wear something once every two weeks, which is probably more frequently than average.

Math aside, I'm so happy with this kimono. It's a frequent go-to, especially paired with my mustard yellow Rebecca Minkoff bag, you'll see that pop up a lot in the photos below and I've previously done a 30 ways to wear a micro Regan bag post on that bag.

#30Wears: Grey Floral and Bird Print Kimono

I picked up this kimono in an ASOS sale 2 years ago and despite feeling like I frequently wear it, I'm just hitting 30 wears now. Quality wise, still looks pristine and new as the day I got it, no signs of wear. It was on sale for $33.60 when I got it so it's just over a dollar a wear at $1.12. It's full retail price was $95 so I'm pretty happy with what I paid and the low cost per wear! It was a great sale find. And as you can see below, a statement floral print kimono can actually be worn with a lot of different things!

30 ways to wear Somedays Lovin' Yakuza floral print grey kimono | Awayfromtheblue blog

Floral Kimono and Green Tops

floral kimono #30wears 4 ways with green tops and denim shorts | Awayfromblue

I find green a tricky colour to wear sometimes, but I've been making an effort to try wear it more often. While there isn't any green in the print of this kimono, with the florals and birds green just seemed like a nice colour combination to try. As you can see, I liked it so much I wore it that way a few times!

Grey Floral Kimono and Grey Tees

floral kimono #30wears 3 ways with grey tees, denim and cross body bags | awayfromtheblue

While I enjoy wearing this printed kimono with bright pieces, nothing beats a classic grey tee. I used to be wary about wearing a grey tee and grey outerwear together, but I gave this kimono a try with a grey tee once and loved it - don't know why I'd never tried it before!  The colourful print helps add some more colour and interest so it's not just grey on grey.

Floral Kimono and Black Tops

floral kimono #30wears 3 ways with black tops and denim shorts | Awayfromtheblue

Colourful tops and grey tops are nice with this kimono, and black tops are perfect with it too! Adding a colourful printed kimono to a basic black top and denim outfit makes it instantly seem a little more pulled-together, and with the neutral top and grey base of the kimono it means you can add a colourful bag to your outfit. Picking an accessory that matches one of the colours in the print is a great idea, as I've done here with the mustard yellow micro Regan bag and blue Balenciaga day bag.

Kimono In Pregnancy With Maternity Denim

floral kimono 30 wears 3 ways in pregnancy maternity shorts | Away From Blue

Having a limited pregnancy wardrobe (and even implementing a capsule wardrobe for the third trimester) meant I reached for accessories more often. A kimono is a wonderfully lightweight piece that adds more interest and colour to your outfit, without making you any warmer, even while pregnant in a heatwave. I loved adding this floral print kimono or one of my many other printed ones to an otherwise simple pregnancy outfit. Kimonos are very bump-friendly too as you never have to attempt to fasten them up over a growing baby bump. They always fit, in every trimester! As a bonus, they work as a breastfeeding cover in the postpartum days too!

Kimonos with Shorts

floral kimono 30 wears 4 ways with denim shorts for summer | Away From The Blue

Denim shorts are a Brisbane summer essential - I couldn't do summer without shorts! As you can see by how many times I've worn this kimono with shorts, easily the majority of the 30 wears! I love how nicely a floral print kimono like this works with denim - it's an easy, fuss-free option. As mentioned above, it's nice to have a light layer for summer that provides some sun protection without overheating too. Picking the right kimono is important to allow it to be breathable in the middle of the summer heat - viscose, cotton and modal are better than polyester.

Kimonos and Skinny Jeans

floral kimono 30 wears 3 ways to wear with skinny jeans | awayfromtheblue

While they are great in summer, it's possible to wear your kimonos in spring and autumn too just by swapping out the denim shorts for skinny jeans. You can go for colourful jeans, or keep it simple and stick to the classic blue or black denim.

Kimono with Dresses and Skirts

floral kimono #30wears 3 ways skirts and dresses | awayfromblue

While I do tend to wear this kimono with denim a lot, I do like to try different things with it now and then. Kimonos work just as well with dresses and skirts as they do with jeans or shorts. The first outfit with the maxi skirt is one of my favourite pregnancy outfits, the slouchy kimono and long skirt just work perfectly together.

Floral Kimono and Print Mixing

floral kimono #30wears 3 different ways to print mix | awayfromblue blog

floral kimono 30 wears 4 ways print mixing with stripes | awayfromtheblue blog

Florals and stripes is a frequently worn print mixing formula. I'm sure you've seen it around on blogs before, even if you've never tried it yourself. With the floral print on this kimono, I was eager to try it with stripes and I love the way this looks. You don't have to stop at stripes though!
Embroidered floral shorts, polka dots or even abstract print, there are so many options. A good tip is to make sure that the prints have a similar colour. The gold polka dots and the yellow florals, or the similarly shaped floral print and floral embroidery together. While I dont always love the resulting outfits, I do have a lot of fun trying new things and wearing different prints with this kimono.

How Do I Know How Many Wears Something's Had?

I've had this question a few times lately. I blog what I actually wear - I take photos on my way out the door most mornings. That means if I want to know how many times I've worn something, I just look up the name of it on the blog and get a count. One of the benefits of having an archive of daily outfits for almost 6 years!

This is my last 30 ways to wear post for the year and it's been an incredibly fun challenge - I know you all enjoy the posts too as they are some of the most popular on my blog, so I'm looking forward to continuing with it next year and making it a permanent fixture. It's been a challenge to hit 30 wears regularly, but identifying pieces I'm close to that number with and giving them lots of frequent re-wears is helping me hit my goals. Thank you for following along, the sweet comments, and the sharing and pinning of the posts.

Two Different Ways to Wear Camis: Pink and Purple Outfits

First, Jeanswest currently have an extra 40% off selected sale items! Great time to shop.

Continuing with rewearing pieces I haven't worn in a while to try and inspire me while shopping my wardrobe during the final month of 6 months without shopping. Again, I'm wearing two camis and layering them up a little for autumn. Although it's now winter in Brisbane, it was a rather mild autumn when I wore these outfits a few weeks ago.

What I wore:

black and white ruffle pleated cami outfit with pink and purple accessories | AwayFromBlue

Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC with purple cardigan printed jeans | AwayFromTheBlue

CamiJeanswest 'Maria' cami in cream
JeansSass & Bide Playman skinny jeans
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC (on sale, 25% off!)

Why I wore it:

I shared this on instagram for White Shirt Day, a day to wear a white shirt and raise awareness and money for ovarian cancer research.

There's a good reason this top isn't worn often even though I love it so much. I've mentioned before that I don't own or wear a lot of white as I'm a little too clumsy for it, and then once you add in two energetic toddlers it's really just asking for trouble! I really liked this outfit - I like the white tank with the printed jeans, the colourful purple cardigan and neon pink bag - but I did worry when we were in the car that maybe I shouldn't have worn white that day. Luckily we made it to our ABA mother's group and back without any stains on my top, definitely a win. Of course by the end of the day my top wasn't looking so pristine. 😂

Last time I wore a similar ruffled cami I wasn't too happy with the outfit as I think the ruffle and kimono together didn't work well. I much preferred this purple cardigan as it had a closer fit. It was a nice addition of colour too with the white.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, purple cardigan, pleated ruffle cami, Sass & Bide printed skinny jeans, black ballet flats, neon pink mini MAC.

Other ways to wearpurple cardigan and graphic tee, pleated ruffle cami and maxi skirt, Sass & Bide printed skinny jeans with magenta accessories, ballet flats and flares, neon pink mini MAC and navy outfit.

Perfect for pregnancy: pleated cami in second trimester, black ballet flats and maternity pencil skirts.

TopJeanswest 'Amber' floral print ruffle cami
SkirtJeanswest Luxe maxi jersey skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

This was the last cami I wanted to wear, after trying to work my way through most of my little-worn camis before winter weather arrived. I'd had this outfit idea for a few days and decided to wear it to playgroup, as a maxi skirt is great for coverage sitting playing with the boys and still comfortable for chasing toddlers around. Just like the outfit above, I went with a light cardigan, and I wore pink and purple again with the purple bag and pink floral cami.

This is one of those outfits where you like the idea of it more than the resulting outfit. It's not that anything was off with this - I was happy with it, I love the pieces and I think they look nice together. It was just a little chilly! I wished I'd worn a thicker cardi and maybe a maxi skirt that doesn't have side slits up to my knees, as it was a cold and windy morning, especially when playing outside in the playground with the boys.

As I mentioned when I bought this maxi skirt, it's a thicker fabric so I expected it to work well for autumn. I'm not sure it will get as much love over winter as I expected, although I will of course try to make it work. I'd prefer to be able to wear most of my wardrobe year round, although I know that's not always possible.

Last wornRay-Ban Wayfarer (above), grey cardigan, floral ruffle cami, black jersey maxi skirt, Walnut Melbourne (above), Rebecca Minkoff purple MAB.

Other ways to weargrey cardigan and chambray skirt, pink floral cami and olive pants, black jersey maxi skirt worn two ways, black ballet flats and skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff MAB tote and denim shorts.

Perfect for pregnancy: floral cami in second trimester, ballet flats and maternity wrap dress.

How You Can Wear It:

It is possible to layer with ruffled camis without feeling like there's too much volume in your outfit. Stick with fitted cardigans that sit closer to your body like I have here. If you have a colourful printed cami, try a neutral cardigan. A plain block-colour cami looks great with a colourful cardigan too.

Wearing Camis in Autumn with Layers, LV Speedy and Skinny Jeans

In month 5 of #6MonthsWithoutShopping, I'm trying to pick things I haven't worn when I'm feeling bored and uninspired with my wardrobe. Last time I picked band tees, this time around I'm giving my cami tops some love. It's been a mild autumn here in Brisbane, but some days have been cool enough to layer, and that's when I wore these tops. Spaghetti straps and thick breastfeeding bra straps aren't the prettiest combination, so the layers hide that nicely!

What I wore:

skinny jeans, polka dot cami and red cardi knit LV speedy bandouliere autumn style | Away From Blue

Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere | Away From The Blue
SunniesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
JacketJeanswest long red drape cardigan

TopJeanswest 'Mia' cami in black
JeansJeanswest 'shale' super skinny jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
Nails: OPI Rich and Brazilian

Why I wore it:

Some of the polka dots on this ruffle cami are red so the red cardigan seemed like a great layering piece. Had a busy morning rushing around running errands before getting back just in time for meeting the tradie to get some work done on the house. Long story short, some work we had done a couple of years back needed re-done. Not impressed. Anyway....

While I was sure about the pairing of the cami and the cardigan together, I wasn't too sure about the skinny jeans with it. The jeans are a purple-ish grey (you can see more of the purple in the last time I wore them here). I worried red and purple would look a little odd together but I think the jeans are subtle enough that it turned out nicely.

BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

As much as I love this kimono, I was starting to feel it was getting a little repetitive each time I wore it and wanted to wear it with something completely different. I've never worn it with peach before so the cami was a way to try change it up a little.

I really don't think it worked though, with the ruffle on the cami giving it a bit of volume and then the voluminous kimono. I wasn't too sure that morning but decided to wear it anyway - as mentioned above I needed something over the straps and it wasn't quite cold enough for a thicker jacket.

Even though I wasn't loving my outfit, I did have a good day in this! We had some friends around and managed to actually talk a lot more than I expected too with two toddlers running around and interrupting. Keeping the boys occupied with snacks helped I think, ha!

How You Can Wear It:

Most warm weather pieces can easily be worn year-round with a few extra layers. Show off a pretty printed cami in Autumn with a colourful and cosy cardigan, or add some print to a block colour top with a printed layer like a kimono. You don't need to pack your summer clothes away as soon as the weather changes. Trying to wear things year-round means you get more value for money too.

OneTeaspoon Hawks Denim Shorts in Spring: Two Ways to Wear

If you follow on instagram you'll know baby boy's in hospital. I still have pre-scheduled blog posts like this that will continue to be published, and he's just in as a precaution. We hope to be home for Christmas!

I picked up my first pair of OneTeaspoon shorts in a collaboration with Glue Store. They are a high-waist style that I wouldn't normally go for, but they are surprisingly comfortable on my mum-tum and I'm glad I gave the different style a try. In a classic black, they will be sure to be worn more over summer. I've shared two different ways to wear them below.

What I wore:

summer storm outfit OneTeaspoon hawks denim shorts polka dot cami cross body bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC, bracelet stack | Away From The Blue
CamiJeanswest 'Mia' cami in black
ShortsOneTeaspoon Hawks shorts in Fox black (C/O)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC (on sale in metallic pink!)

Why I wore it:

Although it was spring when I wore this a couple weeks ago, this day was the hottest day of the season in Brisbane with summer-like temperatures. I wanted to wear as little as possible. Short shorts and a flowy cami was just what was needed when we did venture out of the air conditioning to grab groceries before the afternoon storm hit. The rain in the background was just a small shower before the big storm and the hail rolled in.

It's funny looking back and seeing that the last time I wore this cami I was using it to hide my early second trimester baby bump!

Last worn: polka dot cami, OneTeaspoon Hawks shorts, Havaianas, silver mini MAC bag.

Other ways to wearpolka dot cami and maxi skirt, OneTeaspoon Hawks shorts and tee, silver mini MAC bag with blue and green.

TeeZalora Basics maroon stepped t-shirt
ShortsOneTeaspoon Hawks shorts in Fox black (C/O)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC (on sale in metallic pink!)

Why I wore it:

This was another style challenge inspired outfit. The style challenge for #RuleBreakersClub was the 'forbidden pair' of double denim. As much as I love denim, double denim isn't a look I wear often. When I do attempt it, I like the denim shades to be as different as possible, so black shorts and a blue jacket work nicely.

Picked the red tee as it felt like a while since I last wore it. This was what I wore for another Christmas shopping trip. I feel like that's going to be the main activity I do in the run up to Christmas. I usually like to be more organised than I am at this stage!

Back to the usual what I've been wearing. It was actually a little exciting to open up the big bag of maternity clothes I'd set aside post-baby, and rediscover pieces I'd loved in my last pregnancy. I was extremely happy to see these Asos maternity pencil skirts again, they were real workhorses before.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Second trimester workwear Asos maternity pencil skirt ruffle cami

AwayFromBlue | Balenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH
Scarf: Louis Vuitton "comete" bandeau scarf
Necklace: Lovisa silver love knitted heart pendant necklace

ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
Bracelets: the usual plus House of Harlow Aztec bangles in fuschia pink and silver, white and silver, Hermes pink clic clac
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

Just like last time I wore this scarf as a headband to the office, I got a bunch of compliments, which is always nice! I had a scan to check baby's progress in the early morning, and then it was Melbourne cup day so we had a bunch of events in the afternoon in the office. As I had just recently finished up the Frocktober fundraising challenge, I didn't really want to wear my usual dress option for Melbourne cup.

I figured the ruffles on this cami made it a little more dressy than a standard pencil skirt outfit, and the scarf in my hair was a nod to the headpieces worn to our themed event that afternoon.

Last worn: Louis Vuitton bandeau, ruffle cami, tartan pencil skirt, black ballet flats, Balenciaga part time bag.

Other ways to wearLouis Vuitton bandeau as a belt with a LBDruffle cami and a maix skirt, tartan pencil skirt in the third trimester, black ballet flats and skinny jeans, Balenciaga part time bag and a striped dress.

Why I wore it:

Back when I was still hiding the baby bump on the blog and in the office, I'd gone through my wardrobe pulling out a few possible outfit ideas. This pretty teal top was one of them, so it had been hanging at the front of the wardrobe waiting for me to wear it. I didn't get around to wearing it before starting Frocktober, so it had been sitting there unworn.

Was wondering what to wear with this pencil skirt when I saw this top and figured I'd better wear it again before the spring weather heats up too much. It was a slightly cooler day when I wore this so it worked out perfectly. I wasn't too happy with the length of this top worn like this - I usually always partially tuck it in - but I liked the combination of the teal with the black and white.

Last worn: teal henley, Asos graphic pencil skirt, studded mouse flats, Balenciaga part time bag (above).

Maternity Skinny Jeans and Printed Tops: Second Trimester SAHM Style

I'm really enjoying wearing my maternity jeans again. It's so nice having something to wear that I know I'll fit into and feel good in. In the second trimester the bump grows so quickly it can be hard to guess what to wear each day!

What I wore:

Away From Blue Blog | floral print cami jeanswest maternity skinny jeans 2nd trimester

AwayFromTheBlue | Rebecca Minkoff silver metallic mini MAC bag with black skinnies
CamiJeanswest 'Amber' floral print ruffle cami
JeansJeanswest maternity skinny jeans in black
ShoesAsos 'five star' leather sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes pink clic clac
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

I tried on a few other tops before I got to this one. It's pretty, so I wanted to wear it before the bump got too big, but I was really pushing the limits of it. Although it did fit better than a few of the other tops I'd tried, it didn't feel comfortable at all and I was wishing I'd picked a different top after a few hours!

Took toddler T out to a trial class of gymboree, which is like kind of like baby gymnastics. Basically a morning of play learning new moves; bouncing, running, rolling, swinging, singing songs. It was really fun! Toddler T loved it and I wasn't too tired out by the end of it (I did wonder how I'd cope running along with him!).

Why I wore it:

Wearing my super comfortable maternity jeans again to take toddler T to playgroup. I loved everything about this outfit and wouldn't change a thing!

It was a slightly cooler day in Brisbane after a couple of wet and stormy days, so it was perfect for jeans. I am grateful for the cooler weather as it lets me wear the jeans a little longer, I know in no time at all summer will be here and I'll have ditched them for shorts. I've already bought another pair of maternity shorts in anticipation....
