Floral Kimonos, Navy Tanks and Denim Shorts

This is my one thousandth post! 😱 1,000 outfit posts, 1,584 outfits! It's just like every other post as it suck up on me with all the Christmas prep, but when I hit my 5 year blogaversary in January I'll have something special for my followers to mark the occasion 😉 Thank you for reading along! 💙

Spring is such a great time to wear kimonos. I have a few of them now. The majority of them are blue of course, since it's my favourite colour! The two below are both navy and floral print but even worn with navy tanks and denim shorts they look quite different. I mentioned when I first got the second one that I already had a similar one, it was good to do a side by side post and see how different they are.

What I wore:

Navy tank denim shorts floral cocoon kimono neon pink mini MAC bag spring OOTD | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC | Away From The Blue
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace
Tank: Kmart navy ribbed tank
Shorts: Jeanswest denim cuff shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

The first time I wore this tank it was a little layered up as it was a cooler day, but when I bought it I had outfits like this in mind. The tank, shorts and kimono combo was one I wore a lot last spring/summer, only with maternity pieces. This is basically the non-maternity version of this outfit! I like the combination of the neon pink bag with the print on the kimono, I've worn them together before. Wore this out to run a couple of errands and take Baby Boy for his weekly weigh.

This is the second time I've worn this tank and I'm reviewing everything I buy after I wear it twice in the month I buy it. I've written more about why I do this here, but it's basically to make me think more critically about my purchases and make sure I'm adding sensible choices to my wardrobe.

My purchase review:
I really like this tank! A great basic, for $3 you can't go wrong, and I didn't have a plain navy tank like this in my wardrobe. I am a little annoyed I've seen some other colours of this on sale in Kmart recently for even less...ha! But overall I'm pleased with this purchase, I know it will gt a lot more wear and I don't have any concerns with the quality even with the low price.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarernavy cocoon kimono, navy tank, denim shorts, Havaianas, neon pink mini MAC.

Other ways to wear: kimono and jeans in autumn, navy tank and cosy layers, denim shorts and ankle boots, neon pink mini MAC and flares.

BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this out for a big day of Christmas shopping that I mentioned previously. While I was out to buy some specific gifts, I also had a few stores I wanted to check out myself and take advantage of having someone watch the boys while I was trying clothes on. This was a simple and easy outfit for a day of shopping, and it was easy to try things on too. Managed to get a new pair of shorts, one of the items off my wardrobe wishlist.

I've mentioned before that a kimono is great for using as a breastfeeding cover. I ended up having to use this kimono to throw over the stroller for baby boy at nap time as well as I'd forgotten to pack a blanket. Kimonos really ares such versatile pieces!

Last worn: floral kimono, navy breastfeeding tank, printed denim shorts, gold Havaianas, red saddle bag.

Other ways to wearfloral kimono and stripes, navy breastfeeding tank and purple jeans, printed denim shorts and a blush blazer, red saddle bag and printed dress.

Dresses, Ankle Boots and Rebecca Minkoff Cross Body Bags

Dresses and ankle boots will always be a favourite outfit for spring. It's the perfect weather for bare legs and boots. I haven't worn the outfit combination much this year though, as I've been preferring separates that are easier to breastfeed in, and relying heavily on easy denim outfits. Although not all of my dresses are breastfeeding friendly, the ones below are as they have buttons.

What I wore:

DressJeanswest Rachel Lyocell chambray dress (C/O)

Why I wore it:

This was a quiet day. Spent time with my mum in the afternoon, and in the morning I had a couple of errands to run as well as baby boy's weekly weigh. I went with a pretty blue outfit, again to try boost my confidence a little for the weigh in session! I'm at that point in my maternity leave where dresses are starting to feel a bit too much like 'special occasion' pieces, so it's nice to get them out even if the day doesn't call for being dressed up. I want to wear more of my wardrobe and not just the same few things over and over!

BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

I picked this dress out to wear again, it's been a while and I had been looking forward to wearing it with bare legs in warmer weather when I bought it. With ankle boots of course, and then the red bag seemed nice with the red print on the dress. This was a simple and easy outfit for a boring morning at the accountants and shopping for groceries. Again, like the outfit above, I did feel a little overdressed for the occasion. It was nice to wear this dress without all the winter layers though.

I was starting to run a little late for the appointment at the accountants when I noticed the lighting was perfect for photos - cloudy but bright. I was hurrying to setup and take a quick shot before I left, and was unimpressed when the sun popped out just as I snapped a picture! There was no time to reposition the camera into the shade before I hopped in the car so this squinting into the sudden sunlight shot is the best I got, haha! Should have just pulled my sunnies off my head...

Neutral Outfits with a Red Rebecca Minkoff Cross Body Saddle Bag: Printed Dress and Flared Jeans

While I do like wearing this little red bag with other red accessories, it's nice to pair it with neutral outfits like the ones below and really let the colour pop. The saddle bag style looks just as good with a dress as it does with jeans.

What I wore:

Jeanswest Nikki printed shirt dress ankle boots red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red | Away From The Blue
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
DressJeanswest Nikki printed shirt dress
ShoesRMK Chester black ankle boots (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

I was in a bit of a rush in the morning trying to get everyone ready for playgroup and hadn't really thought about what I wanted to wear. Decided on this printed dress as it's a quick instant outfit, and it's been a while since I last wore it. Although it is still winter it was a little warmer so I could go without a jacket, which was nice. I enjoyed sitting in the sun at playgroup feeding baby, using his muslin wrap as a feeding cover as I didn't quite think things through and realise this scarf was too small to use for that until the last minute.

While this dress actually has a little pink in the print, it blends well and looks like a neutral so the red bag was a fun pop against it.

Last worn: taupe skull scarf, printed shirt dress, black ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to weartaupe skull scarf and a blue shirt, printed dress and purple bag, ankle boots and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag and skinny jeans.

Why I wore it:

Had a busy morning - I optimistically thought I could make an appointment, run errands and go grocery shopping while also making it to the library for rhyme time. Of course we were too late for the library, I misjudged how long it would take to find the special ingredients I was grocery shopping for and I got home with a very cranky baby. It was just one of those days where you can't see all the things you did achieve because you focus on everything that went wrong.

After a morning like that it was nice to catch up with my mum in the afternoon and she complimented my top too. It made me smile. I really do like this top, and this was a nice outfit, just not the best day. It definitely turned around in the afternoon though.

Skinny Jeans, Printed Scarves and Cardigans with Rebecca Minkoff Red Saddle Bag

More adventures out with my friend who was visiting Brisbane. I've mentioned before I try to get out as often as I can with the two boys, but with my friend here we've been doing a more than our usual routine of library and playgroup visits. I've been reaching for jeans a lot to keep things simple, and Converse for all the walking.

What I wore:

Brestfeeding friendly zoo outfit: bird print scarf, elephant teething necklace skinnies cardi | AwayFromBlue

Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red | AwayFromTheBlue
SunniesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan

JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white (on sale and on sale in metallic!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in brown!)

Why I wore it:

Wore this for a trip to Australia zoo. While it was quite warm and I took my cardigan off for most of the day, I was thankful I'd brought the scarf as it's a great breastfeeding coverup. Plus the bird print is perfect for a day at the zoo. Didn't attract the local birds like I did last time I wore it though!

The elephant necklace was a last minute addition but again was a fun animal themed piece to wear to the zoo. I have a few teething necklaces from when toddler T was a baby, this one is a new one I got in a babyology subscription box. Baby boy has started grabbing and tugging on my hair hard so the necklace was a little bit of a distraction for him. Came in handy on the long car ride home when we got stuck in traffic with a cranky baby too, one of my friends tied it to the baby capsule like a little mobile to calm him down.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, grey cardi, bird print scarf, breastfeeding tank, skinny jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to weargrey cardi and a maxi skirt, bird print scarf and stripes, breastfeeding tank and maxi skirt, skinny jeans and a floral kimono, Converse and flares, two different ways to wear a saddle bag.

BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in blue!)

Why I wore it:

It was a slightly cooler day so I was glad I'd worn a thicker cardigan. While I took the scarf off and on as I was babywearing with the Ergo carrier, the cardigan stayed on all day as we went into the city for brunch. It's getting more fun to eat out with toddler T as he's getting to the age where we can order a little meal for him to, and he definitely enjoyed his little serving.

I've mentioned before that I wasn't too sure about what kind of printed scarves I could wear with these jeans, but I find skull scarves seem to go with everything and I don't worry about wearing them with other prints. It was nice to have a little more red in my outfit too.

Jeans, Converse, Red Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Saddle Bag

First, happy to share that I was one of the featured bloggers of the week on the Weekend Wear linkup!

Now what I've been wearing. I've been enjoying red recently. My little red Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag is such a great pop of colour with an outfit, but sometimes I can't resist adding a red scarf as well.

What I wore:

Flares and Converse: printed shirt and red accessories | AwayFromBlue

JeansJeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale and on sale in brown!)

Why I wore it:

Another foggy start to the day, although it did warm up again later on. I was glad to have my leather jacket in the morning, even though I took it off in the afternoon when I went out with my sister.

Had a busy morning running a couple of errands, so the Converse were a good shoe to pick as I dashed around. Perfect for our afternoon walk with my sister as well, enjoying the slightly warmer day.

Last worn: printed leather jacket, red skull scarf, mixed print shirt, flared jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to wearleather jacket and printed jeans, red skull scarf and grey dress, printed shirt and a LBD, flared jeans and a neon tee, Converse and a maxi skirt, two ways to wear a saddle bag.

Why I wore it:

I was so incredibly excited when I wore this outfit! My friend was visiting Brisbane and I hadn't seen her in person for a few years so I was really looking forward to catching up and introducing the boys to her. We ended up just walking around Southbank which was really nice, as I hadn't had a good look since they redid the area. Toddler T was fascinated with the community garden. Again, I wore Converse as they are ideal for a lot of walking.

The striped top and tartan scarf are a combination I thought up the night before when trying to plan out what to wear. I didn't have a lot of time in the morning so I'm pleased that they looked nice together and I didn't have to come up with something else at the last minute.

Maxi Skirts, Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Bags

While it's much more difficult getting a baby and a toddler ready to go somewhere, I still try get out as often as I can. I find that toddler T is much happier to play with his toys or read books quietly with me as I feed his brother if we've gotten out at some point during the day. The best bit about living where we do in Brisbane is that we are close to so many libraries. I can take the boys to the rhyme time sessions almost any day of the week and they can sing and dance along. Maxi skirts make easy outfits for those kinds of days.

What I wore:

Chambray maxi skirt, converse, blue and teal outfit SAHM Style | Away From The Blue

Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC | Away From Blue
TopJeanswest 'Aubrey' pintuck yoke henley in deep teal
SkirtNoisy May long denim maxi skirt (on sale!, same in shorter length)
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white (on sale in red!)
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

I really liked this scarf and henley top together last time I wore them, so was eager to wear the combination again. It seemed perfect for the cold and foggy morning. By the time we got to the library, the fog had gone and Brisbane was experiencing a little winter heatwave. I took the scarf off and wished I'd worn short sleeves too!

I really liked this outfit, just a little overdressed for the unexpected heat.

Last worn: teal henley, wool skull scarf, chambray maxi skirt, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff silver mini MAC.

Other ways to wearteal henley and a baby bump, skull scarf and stripes, chambray maxi skirt with purple, Converse and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff silver mini MAC and denim shorts.

TopDorothy Perkins 3/4 sleeve wrap top
Skirt: Target grey marle maxi skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

Another maxi skirt, another Rebecca Minkoff bag. I do tend to cycle through a few favourites in my wardrobe! While I am trying to wear more of what I own, I have combinations I keep coming back to. When trying to get two little ones ready each morning I often don't get a chance to think very long about what I want to wear and so reach for the familiar.

Maxi skirts go with everything and this top, although not a nursing top, is so easy to breastfeed in so this was the perfect outfit for a morning at the library rhymes session and catching up with a friend. Just like the outfit above, the scarf didn't stay on too long during the day.

Last worn: cobalt scarf, wrap top, jersey maxi skirt, silver ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to wearcobalt scarf and stripes, wrap top and chambray, jersey maxi skirt and a graphic tee, silver ballet flats and skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag and a printed tank.

Printed Tanks, Flared Jeans, Grey Cardigans and Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody Bags

Life with two boys under 2 is busy and hectic, and a cross body bag means I've always got everything I need handy. I've been favouring my Rebecca Minkoff cross body bags lately. While I do have other cross body bags, the Rebecca Minkoff ones are small enough that they are easy to juggle with a baby bag, toddler, newborn and often a stroller.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | printed Tank, Flared Jeans, ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff cross body saddle bag

AwayFromBlue | Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red
Jacket: Paper Scissors grey wrap cardigan
Tank: Emerson crochet lace bib print top
JeansJeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale!)

Why I wore it:

I loved everything about this outfit! A rainy night and a cooler morning was the perfect chance to wear this grey cardi, and I really wanted to wear the red tank and bag together. Although I was just running a few errands, I was comfortable and happy in this all day.

The flowy tank is great for covering a postbaby belly and I was able to lift it up and still have plenty of coverage while breastfeeding in the afternoon when the in-laws came over.

This cardigan had been in the 'maybe donate' pile for a while, as it's been so long since I last wore it. It was last on the blog over 3 years ago! I've taken it to work a few times since then to keep cosy in the aircon but wasn't sure it was worth keeping, until loving it in this outfit. It will be staying in my wardrobe.

Last worn: grey cardi, red crochet detail tank, flared jeans, Marc Jacobs ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to weargrey cardi in the office, red printed tank and striped maxi skirt, flared jeans and Converse, Marc Jacobs ballet flats and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag and a striped skirt.

What I wore:

TankAtmos&Here 'Florida' tank in Aztec print
JeansJeanswest 'spoylt' flared jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in navy!)
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote in plum (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

Since I liked the outfit combination above so much, I decided to try recreate it on another day with a different bag, tank and cardigan. I really didn't like this outfit as much though.

While the wool cardi was nice and cosy and I usually love wearing this tank, I felt it wasn't really working with my extra post-baby curves lifting it up and kept fussing with the hem of the tank trying to pull it down. A nice outfit in theory, but not so practical to wear.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Aztec print tank, flared jeans (above), gold mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff plum mini MAB tote. First time I've worn the cardigan as it's a recent purchase.

Other ways to wearAztec print tank and red jeans, flares and a blazer, gold mouse flats and a Chloe Paddington, purple mini MAB and a pink maxi dress.

2 Ways to Wear a Red Cross Body Bag ~ Rebecca Minkoff Saddle Bag

I have been wearing my Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag so much since I bought it...while it might be a little repetitive seeing it pop up all the time, I haven't had a reason to swap it out for another one of my many handbags because I'm finding it really does go with everything.

Two different outfits below showing how easy it is to wear a red cross body bag.

What I wore:

AwayFromBlue | Floral cocoon Kimono jeans easy breastfeeding / nursing outfit
Singlet: Best and Less black breastfeeding singlet
JeansSass and Bide  'neon nights' jeans
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs metallic mouse flats (on sale in navy!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red

Why I wore it:

Wore this to sit on the sidelines of toddler T's swimming lessons. Have to wait until my 6 week postpartum checkup before I can get the all clear to do any exercising other than walking and the exercises the physio gives you in hospital. I'm looking forward to getting back in the water though!

Thought the colourful floral print on this kimono would look nice with the red saddle bag. I really liked the combination. The kimono works nicely as a little nursing cover when breastfeeding too.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, floral cocoon kimono, black breastfeeding tank, Sass & Bide skinny jeans, gold mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff saddle bag.

Other ways to wearfloral kimono and a mint teeblack nursing tank and a maxi skirt, Sass & Bide skinny jeans and a graphic tee, gold mouse flats and a Chloe paddingtonRebecca Minkoff saddle bag with a maxi skirt.

More cute red cross body bags:

What I wore:

TeeGrey 'making magic happen' tee C/O Shein
Skirt: Vintage black pleated skirt from my Mum's closet
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs black logo plaque ballet flats
Bag:  Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red

Why I wore it:

It's been such a long time since I've worn this skirt! It used to belong to my mum, one of the few vintage pieces of clothing I have in my wardrobe. Thought that they grey slogan tee would work nicely with it, in theory. I didn't really like the oversized top and voluminous pleated skirt when I wore it though, not my favourite outfit. I felt I was constantly tugging at this through the day - especially in the waiting room of the doctors trying to calm a cranky baby with everyone staring...

I did like the colours in this outfit though - the neutral black and grey makes the red cross body bag really pop. A nice way to wear it, I've worn it with an all black outfit before too.
