Adding Colour to Monochrome Black Stripe Outfits

Adding a little touch of colour to otherwise monochromatic black and white striped denim outfits for autumn. Wore these back in April when a light layer is all you need for Brisbane's autumn weather.

What I wore:

pink tee and tassel earings to add colour to monochromatic black and white stripe duster and skinny jeans outfit | awayfromblue

pink and black shorts and tee outfit with Rebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue | awayfromblue

Earrings: Ana Luisa 'Olivia' tassel earrings in pink
JacketKmart striped maxi cardigan
Necklace: Lovisa gold filigree heart pendant
TeeCotton On deep v tee in washed desert rose
JeansNobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (c/o)
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
BagRebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue

Why I wore it:

Not the first time I've worn this pink tee with black! I really like the combination, and I thought that these blush pink and gold earrings complimented the berry pink shade of the v-neck tee nicely.

Without the pink tee and earrings - and of course the bright blue Rebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack, this was a pretty dark outfit with the black Nobody Denim skinny jeans, black New Balance sneakers and the black and white striped duster. The pink lightens it up nicely!

Wore this to visit the markets and tour a pirate ship with the kids. Notorious, a handbuilt replica of a 14th century pirate ship was in our local harbour and we just had to go check it out. Luckily the rain held off until we were getting some lunch at the markets and we didn't get too wet when it did start as we were on our way home.

I thought the bag was a better choice than a handbag to hold all the water bottles and some snacks for the boys. I'm glad I wore it too as it was a tight squeeze on the ship and this sits pretty close when I wear it on my back.

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Kensley summer tie-dye kimono
Necklace: Colette marble and gold pendant drop long necklace
TankAtmos & Here Oregon stripe tank
Shorts: Jeanswest Heather Bermuda short in black
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Julian nylon backpack in bright blue

Why I wore it:

This was a much warmer and thankfully rain-free autumn day so I wore a pair of black denim shorts instead of jeans. With the black and white striped tank and again the black New Balance sneakers it was a very dark outfit.

The navy tie dye kimono added a nice touch of blue to brighten the tank and shorts up a bit, as did the Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack and the magenta marble necklace.

Took the kids out to another local trail. This one is a bit longer than our usual ones but with the supportive sneakers on my feet still easily manageable for my injured knee. It was a bit of a windy day so I was grateful for this kimono keeping my arms and shoulders covered but not overheating me when the wind died down and I felt the full force of the humid weather.

Last worn: navy tie dyed kimono, marble and gold necklace, black striped tank, black denim shorts, New Balance sneakers (above), Rebecca Minkoff Julian backpack (above).

Other ways to wearnavy tie dyed kimono with green jeans, black striped tank and maxi skirt, black denim shorts under a dressRebecca Minkoff Julian backpack and midi dress.

How You Can Wear It:

Black and white stripes is a classic combo worn with denim. It's easy to lighten up a little by adding a brighter tee, topper, accessory, or bag to your outfit, like I've done with these ones.

  1. Hey Mica, I hope you're doing good!

I loved both options but the first one is so good since I try to follow that combination trick in order to add a pop up to my outfit :) It is an easy way to add a lot of personality to OOTD's. By the way nice visit to the pirate boat haha, good to know that you had this experience!

And loved your little hand sanitizer bottle in your Rebecca Minkoff bagpack (which is adorable!)

  29. Hi Mica,
I really liked your looks to be based on black, this is because black is not a color that I use in my outfits and so it is great to see your inspirations. It must have been fun for your children to visit that pirate boat, we are also gradually returning to some normality here too !!

  36. So cool you visited a replicate of a 15th century pirate ship with your kids. I'm sure it's something they will never forget. I like that striped cardi. The blue RB backpack is gorgeous!

Adding colour to monochrome black sounds like a good idea. I like the striped cardi in the first outfit and I like the striped top you wore with a blue cardigan in the second look. It's always good to add some colour. Striped tops and cardis are always a good choice too, such a classic. It's great you were able to take your kids on another track.

You styled both looks beautifully and you look pretty too! :) That pirate ship sounds cool! And, I'm glad your knee is on the mend, slowly yet surely. New Balance is so comfortable.
