Neutral Dresses and Pink Bags - Weekday Wear Link Up

Two more easy outfits for back in the school holidays at the end of September. With the nice weather for quite a few days of the holidays, simple dresses were all that was needed for the warmer days.

What I wore:

black and white striped tee dress with blue skull scarf, Converse and magenta pink Balenciaga day hobo bag | awayfromblue

Balenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta with black and white striped dress | awayfromblue

ScarfAlexander McQueen skull scarf in light blue
DressAll About Eve striped black tee dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagBalenciaga Day bag in 2005 magenta

Why I wore it:

Decided to layer up this dress just a little with the blue scarf. This Alexander McQueen scarf is quite a light one but  was just the perfect light layer for sitting around in the shade watching the kids playing and climbing in the playground. It was a littler cooler than I expected in the morning before it turned into a hot day. Just like the last time I wore this scarf too I couldn't resist going a little matchy-matchy with the blue Converse. I love Converse with this dress!

You might notice that the contrast texture sleeves on this dress don't quite look the same from the last time I wore this dress. The pleather degraded over time (remembering I got this dress second hand from my sister), as pleather doesn't do well in the heat here in Brisbane. I ended up peeling it off the shoulders and keeping the little pleather border on the edges of the sleeves. Doesn't look as good as it did before, but still wearable and I really like this dress and want to keep it around in my wardrobe.

Felt that this beautiful magenta Balenciaga day bag was overdue a wear, it hadn't been used in a while. And it's certainly big enough for snacks and all our water bottles. Even fully loaded like that it was quite comfortable to wear on my shoulder for the little detour we took after the playground to enjoy a dino expo and archaeology activity for the kids before heading home.

What I wore:

grey asos skater dress with pink jean mac crossbody bag and adidas superstar sneakers | awayfromblue

grey dress with Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC bag in fig pink | awayfromtheblue

Necklace: thrifted Mix Apparel clover designer inspired necklace
DressAsos grey skater dress
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch c/o JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff Jean MAC bag in fig

Why I wore it:

It was a lot warmer when I wore this outfit so I didn't add a scarf, but looking at the photos afterward this probably could have used a little extra colour from a scarf. I thought the plain grey dress would be a nice backdrop for my recently thrifted necklace, but something a little bolder would have worked a bit better I think. The Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC crossbody bag was a nice pop of colour, just feel this looks a little less colourful than the outfit above.

Was very comfortable for a busy day with a doctor's appointment, the library and a trip to the playground. Unfortunately at the playground a little kid learning to ride their bike that hadn't yet mastered the art of stopping or using a brake came right up behind me at full speed while I was distracted with the boys and I have a lovely big bruise on the back of my leg where my leg kindly stopped the spinning wheel. 😂

Last worn: grey skater dress, clover necklace, Adidas Superstar, Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC crossbody.

Other ways to weargrey skater dress and blazer, Adidas Superstar and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff Jean MAC crossbody and monochrome blue shorts outfit.

Perfect for pregnancygrey skater dress in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

A pink bag is a fun pop of colour with a neutral dress. Any shade of pink works well! You can try other colourful accessories like I have in the first pic with the blue scarf and shoes too, or just keep everything neutral like the second outfit and let the bag be the sole burst of colour.

  7. SImple dresses are the way to go:) They're very versatile and as always, you accessorized them so well! I actually really like that you left the pleather just on the sleeves for the first dress:) And sorry to hear about the bruising on your leg. Kids are dangerous....LOL

  11. Love how the scarf coordinates with the blue converse! And gorgeous Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag! Two fabulous outfits! I think your thrifted necklace is perfect!

Sorry to hear about your injury at the playground! The poor child was probably lucky you were there. Both my kids had such bruised knees when they were learning how to ride their bikes and both had falls going too fast and not knowing how to stop properly. They usually wore knee pads and always a helmet, but just on the days when they left off the knee pads they fell. Happened to both kids.

  17. Although I'm loving the skater dress, I'm going for the bolder striped dress in your first outfit. I'd never had noticed the difference in the sleeves if you hadn't pointed it out. I'm glad you were able to give it another lease of life that way. Both bags are gorgeous, but oops about the bruise! Have a lovely week Mica! xxx

    1. Yes I love this dress too much, I'm determined to make it work - even if I questioned my sanity as it took longer to pick off all the pleather than I thought, haha! It's just not a fabric that works well in our heat and humidity, I think the dress will be fine without that added texture :)

    1. I have quite a few pink bags! One of my favourite colours to accessories, but I guess they don't go with every outfit so neutral might be more of a staple for people who don't change their bags as often as I do!

  41. I like it how the blue of the scarf in the first picture matches the blue patches in the shoes.
The two-tone grey outfit looks special to me; delicate and elegant.
The color of the bag adds the necessary break to the grey of the outfit.

  47. Hey Mica, both options are so cool!

I loved that each outfit is really different but both of them have the same spirit: kinda sporty but with a formal twist, an interesting color palette and the attention in the details: specially the bags1

I'd say that Balenciaga bag will be with you for many years, at least it is not only an stylish piece but also comfortable and practicable. I liked the second one, good outfit for running errands. I'm sure your little one will master his bike abilities in a few days... kids learn so fast :)

  48. That sucks that the sleeve finish was peeling off - this is one of the reasons I don't like fake leathers - but I'm glad you were able to make it work for this cool striped dress. Your bright pink bag is magnificent!

I'm not as big of a fan of the grey dress - it's just a blah colour, even though the style is great. Your lovely necklace is a bit lost in this outfit. OMG, I'm so glad your knee is okay - those darned kids! I tend to walk into them.

    1. the dress was worn pretty regularly by my sister before I got it and I've worn it a fair bit too so it was inevitable the pleather would peel I think - I'm just glad it could be removed so I can still enjoy the dress!

Yes I really need something brighter with the grey skater dress to jazz it up a bit more! I'm thinking a bright red necklace next time!
