11 Ways To Wear a Blush Waterfall Drape Vest | Magnificent 8

This quarter's Magnificent 8 theme was a tricky one for me: vests! I did have a vest once - and wore it 11 times before deciding it wasn't for me. I only share things I actually wear on the blog and because I really didn't feel like trying to borrow a vest just for a couple wears for a post to find out again that it is an item that doesn't work for me, I figured I'd share the 11 ways I did wear a vest before I admitted defeat and donated it. Pretty shameful cost per wear as I paid $29.99 for it on sale, but I really struggled to wear it so it was better to pass it on.

I don't mind the look of some of these outfits - I pulled out all my old staple formulas, like stripes with everything, and blue and pink. I just find a vest a frustrating piece to wear. It doesn't keep my arms warm so it's not a cold weather piece but it doesn't provide shoulder coverage either so it's a bad piece for summer. Vests and I just don't get along! I love the look of this vest but it just never seemed like a must-have for my outfits. And I always felt like I "should" wear it rather than wanting to wear it so it wasn't one that worked in my wardrobe.

If you're on the fence about vests, or you want some ideas for how to wear a similar waterfall vest you might already own, here's some of the ways I wore this old one I had a few years ago.

Blush Vest And Dresses

two ways to wear a blush waterfall vest with dresses belted unbelted | awayfromtheblue

A long waterfall vest like this blush one looks great worn over a dress! Here I've tried the blue and pink combo I love so much, and for something different even tried to belt this vest in the first outfit. It's good to try little things like adding a belt to mix things up.

Blush Vest and Shorts

4 different blush vest outfit ideas with waterfall drape and shorts awayfromblue blog

Seeing a vest as a warm weather piece, pairing it with shorts seemed like an obvious combo. Out of these 4 vest and shorts combos, I really liked the second and last ones the most, where I have a bit of a column of monochromatic colour under the vest that it layers so well with.

Blush Vest and Jeans

two ways to wear blush waterfall vest with column of colour jeans and tee awayfromblue

Can't go wrong with an outfit staple of jeans and a tee, and for something a little different I tried adding the blush waterfall vest on top. Again you can see the monochrome column of colour in these outfits too.

Blush Vest and Stripes

Whenever I'm not quite sure how to wear something I pull out the stripes! I find that striped tops worked well with this blush waterfall vest as it's a plain block colour and the stripe tops add a nice bit of interest to the outfit, so the vest isn't the only statement piece.

  1. I had a waterfall vest like that in cream - such a good layering piece for me in the summer when I needed just a little something because of the a/c. So versatile!

Thanks, my week starts nice. Hope yours too =)

Great post with nice outfits =)
It's sad that summer is over, so this would be too cold. But it's nice to wear hoodies now <3 :D

  3. Yea, I'm more of a Winter vest girl. Give me a faux fur vest and I'll pop it over a simple sweater. That style is definitely harder to wear since it's so light. But I think you did a great job styling it in those looks!

  5. Mica, I have always found vests challenging as well. Now I sort of view them as an accessory instead of an actual article of clothing. The waterfall style vests like yours I have always found particularly difficult to style but I think you did a great job with it! The color is really pretty on you, too. I really like how you approached this theme and shared the vest you had and why it didn’t work for you. Great post, my friend!

  10. I love that you shared these older photos even if you didn't like how the vest worked for you Mica.
I think of a vest like this as a kimono without sleeves, and it's surprising you didn't love these because you love kimonos.
Don't give up on ALL vests though because there are ones that are very different. You may find one for a deal at your Op store, and then it wouldn't hurt as much if you didn't like it??

    1. Yes I do love my kimonos - the sleeves are the best bit as they are physical sunblock too! I feel I couldn't really get along with this vest, and I haven't liked cold weather vets (pre-blog) so I think that they are not for me!

  11. These are great ways of styling a vest, Mica. I do like that they can work well with certain items in our wardrobe but like you, I am not a huge fan. I have a puffer vest that I wear once or twice a year just because I don't really know how to wear it. But at the same time, I don't want to give it up.

  23. While I like a waterfall cardigan, it doesn't always work for me as a vest: I just got rid of a thrifted one I just didn't wear. I am finding that sometimes things just don't work and I have to forgive myself for spending money on them.

    1. Yes! It's better to be honest and pass it on than keep it around "just in case" and feel bad as it's never worn! Because it was so infrequently worn too I know it would go on to be enjoyed by someone else!

Trying to be more ruthless with my wardrobe so I can do this for other pieces that no longer work for me too, but it's hard going sometimes!

  25. Hello Mica, I hope you're having a lovely week so far!

This is such a niece piece for the in between seasons. I used to have a similar garment (more similar to a suit vest) and I remember I used to wear a lot (I lost it unfortunately). I feel like it is a good way to add layers during hot days, making an outfit a bit more interesting.

I think the color is also really nice, it suits you well and it combines pretty good with the rest of your garments.... specially with stripes!

  29. Vests are funny, aren't they, Mica? They add bulk to the middle, they don't keep one's arms warm, and they can get in the way. I am with you on these long vests - I have one black one that I keep due to the bling on it and the fact that it has pockets!

I commend you on knowing what works for you and what doesn't - you know yourself better than anyone!
