Stripes and Alexander McQueen Skull Scarves, Marc By Marc Jacobs Bags

Baby T has arrived, and I'm blogging less regularly as life revolves around a newborn and I spend most of my days at home in pyjamas! Every now and then I do venture out of the house, and when I do I try to get a photo so I can share some post-pregnancy outfits.

Here's what I wore to go to an appointment with baby T:
pattern colour mix blue purple stripes and skull print scarf jeans and converse
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
CardiJeanswest long blue drape cardigan
Scarf:  Alexander McQueen magenta skull scarf in roses print
TeeAtmos&Here navy stripe v-neck tee
JeansJeanswest Maternity slim straight jeans
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagMarc by Marc Jacobs pretty nylon Eliz-A-Baby bag

After my scarf survived the last outing with baby T, I felt brave enough to try wearing one again when we popped out for a quick appointment at the clinic. Managed to keep this one stain free too, we are making progress!

Also pleased to fit into my first pair of maternity jeans again! Bought these early on in my pregnancy, and only wore them twice before I outgrew them...despite the elastic waist. Managed to squeeze into them this time, which was nice.
I still have a post-baby belly so while I can't wear my regular jeans, my maternity jeans are still serving me well. Anything with a comfortable, stretchy elastic waist that worked in pregnancy is working now too.

Here's what I wore to go out to woolies:
topshop grey knit target stripe maxi skirt acne pistol boots mcqueen skull scarf red bag

ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
TopTopshop grey knitted scoop neck top
SkirtTarget black and white striped maxi skirt
ShoesAcne pistol boots in "skin"
Bracelets: the usual
BagMarc by Marc Jacobs Little Ukita bag in Rock Lobster

This outfit is really similar to the last time I wore this top, only I was 35 weeks pregnant then! 2 and a half weeks after baby's arrival here. I like pairing this maxi skirt with grey tops, nice easy outfit. I liked the top and skirt together last time so made sense to wear it again. Added the boots to help keep me warm as I popped out quickly to get groceries without baby T. Was really chilly though, did wish I had added a jacket with this.

Last worn: taupe skull scarf, grey knit, striped maxi skirt, Acne Pistol boots, Marc by Marc Jacobs Ukita bag.

Blue Skull Scarf, Stripes, Blazer and Maxi Skirt | Maternity Skinny Jeans and Boots, MbMJ Ukita Bag

Now that baby T has arrived, I'm blogging less regularly as life revolves around a newborn and I spend most of my days at home in pyjamas! Below are two of the chances I've had recently to get dressed and get out of the house, and had time to take an outfit picture.

Here's what I wore to take baby T for a checkup and visit Centrelink:
Alexander McQueen Skull Scarf stripe tank, maxi skirt blazer
Jacket: Zara black blazer
ScarfAlexander McQueen skull scarf in light blue (currently on sale!)
TankGlassons striped tank in black and white
SkirtJeanswest plain jersey black maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagMarc by Marc Jacobs pretty nylon Eliz-A-Baby bag (not in pic)

Tried to dress a little more like myself on this outing - I felt really dressed up with the blazer actually! Just carried all of my paperwork and things in the baby bag. So pleased we bought a large bag as I can throw my things in with everything needed for baby. And all of the paperwork Centrelink need...

Wasn't sure how my scarf would fare, but decided to wear it anyway and managed to keep this outfit stain-free. Although baby T did sneeze milk right in my face after a feed, it missed my clothes. Life with baby isn't very glamorous, but it is hilarious!

Last worn: Zara blazer, blue skull scarf, Glassons stripe tankjersey maxi skirt, Converse.

Here's what I wore to spend the afternoon with DH:
Jeanswest maternity skinny jeans and brown Asos boots 2 weeks post baby

Marc by Marc Jacobs Lil Ukita Bag worn cross body rock lobster pink red
Necklacevintage gold initial necklace
Top: thrifted Zara cream shirt (recent purchase)
JeansJeanswest maternity super skinny jeans in antique blue
ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in tan
Bracelets: the usual
BagMarc by Marc Jacobs Little Ukita bag in Rock Lobster

Really liked this outfit! Got to carry my own handbag as baby T was babysat by family for an afternoon, which gave DH and I the chance to have a little lunch date together. We are lucky to have such helpful and supportive family. While it was nice getting some time out without baby, it was the longest we've been apart since he was born (he was just over 2 weeks old when I took this photo) and I did miss him a bit! Was nice to change out my handbag from the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag I had my things in when I went into labour.

This Zara top is another one of my thrift finds from my op-shopping day as I filled my time waiting for baby's arrival. This is the first time I've been able to wear it as it didn't cover the baby belly before, hehe. The Endeavour Foundation store had a bunch of Zara items, so I ended up with a few things. Cheaper than flying to Sydney for a Zara fix ;)

Last worn: maternity skinny jeans, Asos brown leather boots, Marc by Marc Jacobs little Ukita. First time I've worn the top.

Red Cardi, Black and White Striped Maxi Skirt | Asos Fluro Boucle Blazer, Skinny Jeans and Boots

Continuing on with the sporadic outfit posts, sharing what I wear when I do venture out of the house with baby. I still haven't progressed passed wearing PJs while at home, but baby T doesn't seem to mind!

Here's what I wore for an appointment at our local clinic (a week and a half after baby's arrival):
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
Cardi: Jeanswest long red drape cardigan
Top: Best and Less black breastfeeding singlet
SkirtTarget black and white striped maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual

Using the old "black is slimming" rule to try disguise some of the post-baby belly a little, as the breastfeeding singlets I'm wearing are quite figure hugging and accentuate my little bulge.

While I was running around later in the afternoon I ended up knotting the long drape of the cardi around my waist. Wish I'd had a chance to get a photo of it, as I preferred it that way rather than the long line it creates worn lose in the photo. Of course by that point in the day the top was already stained courtesy of a messy baby, so the time for photos was over, haha!

Really getting into winter weather here - even Cooper has his winter woolies on!

Last worn: Ray-Ban wayfarersred cardigan, target stripe maxi skirt, Converse. First time I've worn the singlet on the blog.

Here's what I wore a couple of days later, to drop by the clinic again:
JacketAsos blazer in textured boucle with fluro binding (on sale!)
Top: Jeanswest maternity nursing cami
JeansJeanswest maternity super skinny jeans in antique blue
ShoesAsos Cleo leather boots in black
Bracelets: the usual

Another singlet and cardigan combination! It's really easy in these early days looking after baby T.  Swap the PJ pants for something outdoors appropriate, add shoes and a cardi and I'm good to go!

I have a lot of cardigans, I just don't show them often on the blog. They tended to be something I'd throw into my bag to have to cover up at work or if the air con got cold when I was out somewhere in summer. At the moment they are being worn more often as they are a nice snuggly option with the cooler weather, and easier to clean than most of my jackets if baby T makes a mess....

Wore the boots to keep my feet warm, and to have a little change from the frequently worn Converse! :)

Last worn: Asos fluro blazer, Jeanswest maternity skinny jeans, Asos leather boots. First time I've worn the top on the blog.

Casual Post-Baby Outfits: Maxi Skirts and Maternity Skinny Jeans

Now that baby T has arrived, I'm blogging less regularly as life revolves around a newborn and I spend most of my days in pyjamas! But I do have to leave the PJs behind and get dressed to leave the house, and so whenever I do I'll share an outfit.

Here's what I wore to go visit family:
easy post-partum outfit grey maxi skirt teal jeanswest henley shirt converse

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran handbag carob brown
Necklacevintage gold initial necklace
Shirt: Jeanswest 'Aubrey' pintuck yoke henley in deep teal (new purchase)
SkirtTarget grey marle maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual  plus Disney Couture Winnie the Pooh bangle
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

This was taken about a week after baby's arrival - we were welcomed over to the in-laws for dinner. They very kindly suggested that we come over early, so we wouldn't be in a rush, and so that they could help look after baby for a few hours for us. It did take us about 3 hours to get ready and leave the house though, haha. At least we weren't late for dinner, as we had been planning to go over so early.

This top is one of my purchases from the Jeanswest 40% off sale before baby was born. It seemed like a nice easy option to wear, as the parcel had arrived a few days earlier. Probably could have used an ironing first, but I'm not beating myself up over it! Partially tucked the top in to the waistband of the skirt to try disguise the post-baby belly a little.

Last worn: grey maxi skirt, Converse, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag. First time I've worn the top as it's a new purchase.

Here's what I wore to go on my first solo outing with baby and Cooper:
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
Necklacecustom Cooper charm by Silhoupette
Shirt: Jeanswest 'Melanie' Stripe henley in black/coconut
JeansJeanswest maternity skinny jeans in black
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs pretty nylon Eliz-A-Baby bag (new purchase)
Stroller: Steelcraft Strider Compact (new purchase)

Another new Jeanswest top! Again, this one was from my sale order. When we were in hospital, we got many people offering to help with housework and food preparation, so my clothes were generously washed and ironed. The tops being new additions at the front of my wardrobe means I've gone for those first though, because I'm looking for easy outfits and getting dressed as quickly as possible.

Wore this simple black and white outfit to head out for the first time with Baby T on my own - just a walk to the grocery store with baby and Cooper - and then to spend time with my family who visited us in the afternoon.

Learnt from the previous outing to my in-laws, where I still had my handbag and ended up with so much to carry, and just carried my things in baby T's bag so there was less to hold!

Last worn: Ray Ban, Jeanswest maternity skinny jeans, Converse (see above). First time I've worn the top and bag on the blog as they are recent purchases.

Baby T and What I've Been Wearing While Caring For A Newborn

Baby T has arrived! He is a beautiful baby boy, and I've already shared a few photos on instagram, @awayfromblue. A few people have been waiting for something to show up on the blog too, so put together this quick post between nap times.

Thank you all so much for your kind words and comments while I've been preoccupied with our beautiful little baby.

I've relied on my scheduled "maternity wardrobe essentials" posts and haven't been sharing what I've been wearing lately as my outfits have been very boring and repetitive. In hospital, I wore pyjamas mostly. I did "dress up" in trackie dacks (sweats) and a breastfeeding singlet during visiting hours.

Now that we are home, I haven't varied that uniform too much. I'm still in my PJs a lot of the time, as life revolves around baby T and we are trying to settle into a routine. Not at all ashamed to admit that at this early stage, getting dressed is pretty much reserved for when we have visitors or we need to go somewhere!

This is a daily outfit blog though, so I'll continue to share what I wear  - when I have ventured out of the house, and have had time or remembered to take a picture. I've always shared what I actually wear here, and as it was fun to share my pregnancy looks, thought you might like a little insight into the 'first days with a newborn' outfits. They are certainly not the best or most inspiring, but they are definitely practical and comfortable. And when you're running on limited sleep, comfort and ease always wins!

Now your expectations are suitably lowered... ;) This is what I wore for baby T's first outing, a couple of days after we got out of hospital.

Cardigan: Jeanswest Dana drape knit cardi in Boysenberry
Top: Best and Less blue stripe breastfeeding singlet
JeansJeanswest maternity super skinny jeans in antique blue
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs (not pictured)
Bracelets: the usual

Added a cardigan and swapped the comfy PJ pants for my maternity skinny jeans to make this outfit look a little more presentable for baby T's first outing to our local clinic. My maternity jeans will get worn for a while yet - as you can see I still have a bit of baby belly. Not fussed with trying to find clothes to hide it at the moment, sleep is higher on the list of priorities, hehe!

Last worn: purple cardi, maternity skinny jeans, shoes. First time I've worn the top on the blog.

Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials - Wearing Non-Maternity Pieces in the Third Trimester

While I'm in the hospital with baby, I've set up a few scheduled posts. This is the last post in the "Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials" series.

As soon as I can I will be back to posting my usual daily outfits. I'll be sharing bits and pieces on my instagram (@awayfromblue) about life with baby until I'm back to blogging.

Today I'm talking about my pregnancy wardrobe and the non-maternity pieces I used and wore through my third trimester.

My goal in pregnancy was to buy as few maternity pieces as possible. Some things that had worked for the second trimester (like wrap dresses, pencil skirts) no longer worked in the third trimester, or needed a few changes (like adding leggings to now shorter dresses). In the third trimester, I found the following non-maternity pieces in my wardrobe worked well, and I included an example of an outfit with each.
Although I wore the items above in conjunction with maternity clothing, being able to wear existing items in my wardrobe gave me a little more variety with pregnancy dressing, something that I really appreciated near the end of the pregnancy where I was starting to run out of options for things to wear!

I defaulted to maxi skirts and dresses a lot as they were the easiest and most comfortable option most days and I really embraced them in the third trimester.

You can see all of my third trimester outfits here.

Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials - Wearing Non-Maternity Pieces in the Second Trimester

While I'm in the hospital with baby, I've set up a few scheduled posts.

As soon as I can I will be back to posting my usual daily outfits. I'll be sharing bits and pieces on my instagram (@awayfromblue) about life with baby until I'm back to blogging. Until then I hope you enjoy the little break and slight change of format.

My goal in pregnancy was to buy as few maternity pieces as possible. You can see the maternity pieces I wore through my pregnancy in the previous post. In the second trimester, I found the following non-maternity pieces in my wardrobe worked well, and I included a link to an example of an outfit with each.

Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials - Review of Maternity Pieces in My Wardrobe

While I'm in the hospital with baby, I've set up a few scheduled posts.

As soon as I can I will be back to posting my usual daily outfits. Until then I hope you enjoy the little break and slight change of format.

First up, talking about my pregnancy wardrobe and the maternity pieces I wore through my pregnancy.

I had a total of 14 maternity pieces to supplement my existing wardrobe. I've included links below so you can see when I wore them, and how often I wore them. My goal was to buy as little maternity pieces as possible.

Tops:

Dresses:

Skirts:

Shorts:

Pants:

You can hear my thoughts and opinions by watching the video, but in summary:
  • I was lucky to have a lot of pieces in my existing wardrobe that worked well in pregnancy. Lots of flowy, loose, oversized and stretchy pieces meant I didn't need much maternity wear. I'll do a follow up post about the non-maternity items I found most helpful.
  • Maternity tops I found tricky to wear as the extra length swamped my petite frame.
  • Dresses were the easiest, most comfortable maternity wear option for me. Great go-to pieces!
  • The Asos maternity pencil skirts I bought were fantastic for work and I'd recommend them to anyone who has to dress for pregnancy in the office.
  • Jeanswest maternity denim is the only brand of maternity jeans I tried - perfect first time so I didn't try to look elsewhere.

I hope that you found this post useful, and that you can pass it along to anyone who might benefit from it :) Different from my usual posts, but I thought that laying out what I wore and how I wore it during my pregnancy might come in helpful for someone.

40 Weeks Pregnant! Stripe Tee, Maternity Skinny Jeans | Ombre Knit, Maxi Skirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran

Here's what I wore on Wednesday:
40 weeks pregnant maternity skinny jeans stripe tee alexander mcqueen skull scarf

Scarf: Alexander McQueen skull scarf in light blue (new purchase)
TeeAtmos&Here oversized stripe tee
JeansJeanswest maternity super skinny jeans in antique blue
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Yep, you read the title right. I'm 40 weeks pregnant. :) Baby T is definitely overdue! Still trying to keep as active as possible and making sure that I get out and about every day, as I know walking is beneficial.

Wore this simple jeans and tee outfit to go to the doctors on Wednesday. Added the scarf to keep me warm as it was a little chilly. Not the best photo of it, but it's a lovely blue skull scarf. I couldn't resist buying another skull scarf to add to my collection when Matches Fashion sent me a discount code! I really like the way they styled it on their site with the white tee and pale denim. Unfortunately I don't have any plain white tops that fit the baby bump, so went with this striped one instead. I liked the result, although I look forward to trying it with a white tee later!

Last worn: stripe tee, maternity skinny jeans, Havaianas, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag. First time I've worn the scarf as it's a recent purchase.

Here's what I wore today:

Today was spent on the phone mostly! Lots of people calling and texting to see how things were going and if there are any signs of baby's arrival. I'm really feeling loved, with everyone checking in hoping all is still well, asking how I am and giving us encouragement.

Comfy knit and maxi skirt outfit today as I had another acupuncture appointment this afternoon. Loose layers are good to wear when getting poked with needles. And I'm pleased this stretchy knit still fits the bump. Looks very different from the last time I wore it! Thought that the ombre effect looked nice with the stripes, what do you think?

Casual Third Trimester Outfits: Stretchy Tops and Maxi Skirts. RM Mini MAC and MbMJ Fran Bags

Here's what I wore on Monday:
Blue and Grey third trimester pregnancy outfit blazer tank maxi skirt RM mini MAC

Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC bag
Jacket: thrifted Valleygirl pinstripe blazer (new purchase)
NecklaceHouse of Harlow sunburst necklace in silver and grey
SingletJeanswest 'Jenni' singlet in indigo blue
SkirtTarget grey marle maxi skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC

Had a few errands to run on Monday and an acupuncture session. As it was a little chilly in the morning, decided to wear the other blazer I found at the op-shop on my shopping trip a few weeks back. I think it looks okay, although there really is no chance of it being buttoned over the giant baby bump, haha! Was easy to take off and on as the temperatures changed through the day.

Last worn: Jeanswest blue singlet, Target grey maxi skirtHavaianas, metallic mini MAC. First time I've worn the blazer as it's a recent purchase.

Here's what I wore today:
non maternity clothes in third trimester: stretchy tee and jersey maxi skirt

Tee: Roger and Peach screen printed doily heart tee in lilac bought at the Rocks Markets in Sydney
SkirtJeanswest plain jersey black maxi skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes pink clic clac
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Another simple maxi skirt outfit, this time with a pretty pastel tee. Spent lots of time relaxing today, so this was a nice comfortable outfit. Looked okay for a doctor's appointment and lunch with DH too.

I really am so glad I discovered stretchy maxi skirts work just as well during pregnancy as they do before it. They have been the most comfortable things to wear, and I feel more put together than if I was walking around in trackie dacks. Although I do confess that trackie dacks are my outfit of choice when I'm at home bouncing on my exercise ball to relieve some of the pregnancy back aches! Much more practical than a skirt in that situation.
