Weekday Wear Link Up: Pink and Brown With Denim and Rebecca Minkoff Love Bag

Two pink and brown outfits for today's Weekday Wear Link Up! I've noticed a lot of bloggers wearing brown recently and always think "I have so little brown in my wardrobe" but I actually have a few brown pieces! Seeing the colour around so much was the perfect excuse to get these brown tanks out again and remind myself why I shouldn't have forgotten about them!

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

More of a late autumn outfit than an end of summer outfit really, needing both jeans and a blazer! I wore this at the end of February, for a quiet Friday with the school run and working from home. With the downpour that started overnight the night before it was very cold and wet - jeans were a good choice and I added the blazer for warmth. Got absolutely drenched when dropping the kids off as school, but thankfully the blazer dried quickly, being made of rayon. With the rain continuing, we postponed some after school errands in favour of staying home and dry. Made some chocolate chip cookies to cheer us up with all the rain too. Hubby noted that water was starting to come over the roads on his way home.

Woke up the next morning to find out from our neighbour that the street was flooding. During one of our walks that weekend when the rain was lighter to check on the flood levels, we stumbled across a poor drenched and shivering little budgie under a bush! Little thing was so tired and scared, it let me pick it up and snuggled into my jumper. The next day, someone in the area was able to drive close enough to us that we could walk through the floods and give the budgie to him for more normal living arrangement in a proper bird cage (instead of the box we hastily constructed) until the owner could be found. Such a crazy weekend!

We ended up being flooded in for 3 days. We are so lucky our house stayed dry. We've been through floods before of course in other places, but after building this house just over 2 years ago it's never faced an extreme event like this before, and we've never had persistent floods since the boys were born. Lots of comparisons around here to Brisbane's 2011 floods, and lots of friends and neighbours who evacuated and so many many houses destroyed. If you want to, you can donate here to help.

Why I wore it:

What a difference a few days makes! When I put outfit photos together for a post I could have worn the outfits anywhere from a day to weeks apart. While I wore these outfits just 3 days apart it felt a lot longer. It was the first day we could actually drive away from our house! The school was still closed because of the flooding but after I finished work for the day we were able to drive out to the grocery store to get a few essentials that we had run out of while flooded in. And we made sure to return some very overdue library books we were supposed to take back on Friday. When it was raining too bad to drive there on Friday I had naively thought the weather would be better on Saturday to return them, but of course we were flooded in.

Since I loved the pink and brown combo above I repeated it again! With a black distressed denim skirt this time, a brown animal print tank, and a pink kimono as it was a hot day. It was nice to have the sunshine again, and to see most of the flooding in our suburb dried up.

While I really loved the first outfit and thought I'd love this as it's almost exactly the same outfit formula, I think this was missing something. I debated which necklace to wear for a little bit that morning and maybe a different more statement one would have looked better with this, or tucking the tank into my skirt more.

Last worn: pink kimono, animal print tank, necklace, Nobody Denim skirt, New Balance sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag (above).

Other ways to wearpink kimono and stripes, animal print tank and pencil skirt, Nobody Denim skirt and orange tee, Rebecca Minkoff Love bag and maxi skirt.

How You Can Wear It:

Pink and brown are lovely together! Try adding a pink topper like a kimono or blazer over a brown tank.

    1. Unfortunately his owner still hasn't come forward so I think the neighbour who took him in will be keeping him - he let me know he didn't mind though, he's going to give to his mum or sister if it doesn't get along with his birds! :)
