Button Up Shirts and Denim Shorts

Happy International Women's Day! If you were able to, I hope you supported #DayWithoutAWoman in some way.

Onto my regular outfit post. While I really liked the way both of these outfits looked, I didn't enjoy wearing them so much. Shorts and a long sleeved top is a combination I really like wearing, and button up (or button down) shirts are perfect for breastfeeding. A Queensland summer heatwave is probably not a good time to wear such warm pieces though! Poor judgement on my part!

What I wore:

Jeanswest 'Ruby' mixed print shirt, denim short shorts, red saddle bag | Away From Blue

Rebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red | Away From The Blue
ShortsJeanswest denim cuff shorts
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
BagRebecca Minkoff unlined saddle bag in cherry red (on sale in pink!)

Why I wore it:

I deliberately picked out this warmer top to wear on a hot day as the morning was spent with appointments and more tests for baby boy. Needed something I could easily breastfeed in that would keep me warm in the freezing aircon. It was a good idea to cope with all the airconditioned buildings we were in, but it was so insanely hot getting out the car to walk into a building that I was regretting my outfit choice a little! I also forgot to add a teething necklace on the way out the door.

It's not the first time I've worn this printed shirt this red bag, I really like the pop of colour it gives. Despite overheating a little when I stepped outside in this, I really did love this outfit and I'm keeping it in mind for whenever the cooler autumn weather decides to arrive.

Why I wore it:

You can see how old these pics are as Cooper's still all fluffy! 😂 I liked this shirt worn untucked with shorts here better than I did when I wore it last time tucked in. While it was a warm day I was eager to wear this shirt again. When the power cut at home and there wasn't any more aircon I was again regretting my decision to wear such a warm top on such a hot day. Luckily we didn't spend much time at home as we were going to stay down the cost with my parents for a few days. They had fully functional air conditioning thankfully, just what you need for a heatwave.

As it's the second time I've worn this shirt, my purchase review:

I bought this shirt back in the Jeanswest sale in November, but didn't get to wear it much over December with baby boy's hospital stay. I figured it would be one of those pieces I could wear for both office wear and SAHM life. It really hasn't been worn often though.

I do think it's a nice shirt, and I'm glad I bought it, but it really won't get worn much until the weather cools off. I did order a trench coat in that Cyber Monday sale that I've kept and still haven't worn though, so managing to wear this shirt twice isn't too bad! I am looking forward to wearing this again, when it's not so hot.

Blue Button Down Shirts Under $50:

Button up shirts don't have to be reserved for office wear. They look great worn casually with denim and work nicely with denim shorts - if the weather's right!

#30Wears: Rebecca Minkoff Georgina Studded Sandals

I'm amazed we are in March already! Baby boy's birthday is this month and it really doesn't feel like he's almost a toddler. A new month means a new 30 wears, this time sharing 30 ways I've worn my Rebecca Minkoff studded gladiator sandals. I explain more about 30 wears here and why I'm doing it.

#30 Wears: Rebecca Minkoff Georgina Studded Sandals

I bought these studded gladiator sandals in October after having my eye on them for a while. Amy Ann wore them so well on her blog! I originally wanted the gold pair, but waited for the Shopbop sale and these blush ones were the only ones left in my size. I'm glad I ended up with this pair, the neutral colour goes with absolutely everything. 30 wears in 5 months is pretty good too, considering I mostly live in my Havaianas over our hot and humid Queensland summers.

Wearing Studded Gladiator Sandals and Dresses

A simple dress and sandals combination is ideal for warm weather. I haven't been able to wear these sandals with all the dresses in my wardrobe yet as they aren't all breastfeeding friendly, but I'm eager to wear them with more dresses soon. The sandal straps are ankle height so they work perfectly with knee-length, midi or maxi length dresses.

The only problem with pairing them with maxi dresses is that you don't always get to see the sandals under the long hem, but it's a combination I adore anyway. The neutral pale blush shade means you can wear them with brightly coloured or printed maxi dresses, and I've enjoyed wearing them that way. Three of the dress outfits above are my favourite on this page.

Wearing Gladiator Sandals and Maxi Skirts

Just like when I wear these sandals with maxi dresses, it can be hard to see them peeking out from under the hem. As they go with everything though, I'm happily wearing them under maxi skirts. Wearing them with my chambray maxi skirt is an outfit staple for me, as you can see from the pics!

Studded Gladiator Sandals and Printed Skirts

This is another reason I'm glad I got the neutral blush colour - I can pair them with any colour print and they work well. Stripes go with everything, but they also look good with my knee length pleated printed skirt.

Studded Gladiator Sandals and Printed Shorts

Just like the printed skirts above, the sandals work equally well with printed shorts. Sandals and printed shorts look a little less casual than my usual Havaianas, so this is a nice combination to feel a little more pulled-together. Again I don't have to worry about what colours I'm wearing with them and can stick with the pallette in the print of the shorts, or be more adventurous and try pink and yellow too.

Studded Gladiator Sandals and Printed Kimonos

You can see I love my Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag and my Somedays Lovin' kimono just as much as my sandals! I tend to reach for these sandals more often when I'm wearing colourful printed kimonos as they don't compete with the print or clash with any of the colours.

Studded Gladiator Sandals and Denim Shorts

Just like my chambray maxi skirt above, I think the studded gladiator sandals work so nicely with denim. Perfect with denim shorts on a hot day, and the neutral blush means I can play with prints or colour or both in the rest of my outfit.

I like these studded sandals so much I've even considered buying another pair in a different colour, once my #6MonthsWithoutShopping challenge is over of course. The only downside to these sandals is that they have a lot of buckles to do up, which isn't ideal when you're already running late trying to get yourself and two little boys dressed and out the door on time!

They are extremely comfortable though, even from the first wear, and are available in so many different colours. Really easy to care for too - as they are leather I've treated them like all the other leather things I buy and have given them a quick waterproofing spray just to be safe.

There are a few places to buy the Rebecca Minkoff Georgina sandals, and they are on sale at most of them!

I hope you enjoyed this 30 wears post - feel free to share or pin!

Summer Layers with Denim Shorts and Printed Tanks

March is officially the start of autumn in Australia. Our summer heatwaves are set to continue into autumn again, so even though I wore these outfits in summer they would be perfect for dealing with our warmer than usual autumn too!

It's nice just to wear a printed tank and shorts, but every now and then you want to add a little something to make an outfit different, and kimonos and sleeveless coats or vests are perfect for layering in the summer heat.

What I wore:

Somedays Lovin' Yakuza print kimono print mixing stripe tank denim shorts summer | AwayFromBlue

Balenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag | AwayFromTheBlue
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
JacketSomedays Lovin' Yakuza print kimono
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
TopJeanswest 'Josie' striped back strap tank
ShortsJeanswest denim cuff shorts
ShoesWittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs pearl, howlite and hematite beaded bracelets
BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

I really enjoyed wearing this outfit. It met lots of style challenges on Instagram, but I loved it for how comfortable it was and how quick and easy it was to wear. Stripes and florals are always a good combination, stripes are the easiest thing to print mix with I think. I really like the way that the bright necklace looks against the white tank too. I don't have a plain white tank - it was something on my wardrobe wishlist I couldn't find before I started #6monthsWithoutShopping so this is as close as I'll get.

This kimono has been worn a lot this past summer! More than any of my other kimonos. I find the grey base so easy to pair with anything and everything and it's easy to pull colours out of the print (like the yellow) or the brown here to accessorise with. The colours in the print work well with my handbag collection!

Wore this to take baby boy for his weekly weigh and spend some time with my mum in the afternoon.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer, Somedays Lovin' kimono, striped tank, denim shorts, two tone sandals, Balenciaga truffle Day bag.

Other ways to wearprinted kimono and plain tank, striped tank and boucle jacket, denim shorts in a monochrome outfit, two tone sandals and shirt dress, Balenciaga truffle Day bag for a weekend trip.

Printed Kimonos Under $50:

What I wore:

floral lace tank bermuds denim shorts pink pastel sleeveless drape jacket vest | AwayFromBlue

Balenciaga autumne brown RH classic day bag | Away From The Blue
SunglassesRay-Ban new Wayfarers
JacketJeanswest Peri drape sleeveless jacket (on sale!)
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus teething necklace in pop
Tank: no label floral and lace top
Shorts: Jeanswest Trinity Bermuda denim shorts (on sale!)
ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
BagBalenciaga truffle brown RH classic day bag

Why I wore it:

Wore this to take the boys out to playgroup. Unlike the outfit above, while I like all of the pieces in this outfit separately I really didn't like them together. It met multiple style challenges on Instagram, and the floral tank and pink vest are something I'd been wanting to wear together since I first bought the vest. I do like the combination, and it certainly looked okay in the mirror that morning, but looking at the photos I think it seems slightly off.  This tank, while pretty, is a real pain to breastfeed in too as it's fitted and you have to roll it up rather than pull it down, not leaving a lot of coverage. Luckily I didn't have to feed baby boy in public!

If I'd worn a different bag with it, a smaller cross body bag like I did here, I probably would have liked this outfit more. The brown Balenciaga day bag is a bit much with the drape on the jacket I think. Too large. An outfit fail, that I probably could have improved with a different bag.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarer (above), pink sleeveless jacket, floral and lace tank, bermuda denim shorts, studded gladiator sandals, Balenciaga truffle Day bag (above).

Other ways to wearpink sleeveless jacket worn two ways, floral and lace tank with striped skirt, bermuda denim shorts and slouchy tee, studded gladiator sandals and wrap dress, Balenciaga truffle Day bag and pencil skirts.

Lightweight Sleeveless Jackets Under $50:

You can still layer in summer - a lightweight kimono or sleeveless jacket (the ones I'm wearing are made from viscose) adds some colour and interest to an outfit without overheating you.
