Corporate Style: Printed Dresses and Winter Layering

I wore these two dresses from my June buys together a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to get around to wearing them a second time. I try wear everything I buy twice in a month after buying it, so that when I'm deciding what to keep  I'm keeping things I will actually wear and that I won't just leave unworn in my wardrobe. This time around, as it was a little colder, I layered up the dresses more.

What I wore:

Printed silk shift dress worn as top tucked into pants trench ankle boots pashmina

Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown with burgundy pants
Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
ScarfNali feather print pashmina scarf
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace
DressJeanswest Sadie silk printed shift dress
PantsJeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
ShoesAsos airtime leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

This outfit was a hit on instagram, and in my bedroom mirror the night before when I was trying to think of something to wear to work. I like wearing dresses as tops, I've done it before a few times, and this seemed like such a good combination with the colours of the dress and the pants. Made it really cosy too!

The only downside to this outfit was that silk wrinkles, a lot. And with all the sitting down and getting up and re-arranging the dress...it never stayed tucked in perfectly. I ended up keeping the pashmina on at work to try hide most of the creases as by the end of the day I looked quite rumpled! I do want to try wearing this dress as a top again, but maybe with a pencil skirt layered over it so that I don't have to try and tuck it in perfectly each time.

Since it's the second time I've worn this dress, my purchase review:
I am so glad I bought this. It's a beautiful piece, although I am restricted a little with how I wear it and it will be work-only for a while as silk isn't the best material for a day at home with baby! This was an impulse buy, I certainly didn't need another dress, but I do like being able to add some different fabrics to my wardrobe and I have written many times about my love for printed dresses. It's a winner.

Last worn: camel trench coat, feather print pashmina, silk shift dress, burgundy skinny pants, tan ankle boots, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag.

Other ways to wearcamel trench coat with a printed dress, pashmina with a polka dot dress, silk shift dress and tights, burgundy and orange, ankle boots with a maxi skirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag with a maxi skirt.

More printed dresses for the office, under $50:

What I wore:

Target Danni Minogue Petites printed wrap dress with blue layered tee office wear

JORD fieldcrest wood watch Balenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet
Dress: Target Dannii Minogue Petites printed wrap dress
Tee: Valleygirl blue 3/4 sleeve tee
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this dress, I spoke about how happy I was with the fit, but it was all hidden under the winter layers! I braved the cold without the scarf and trench to take a clearer picture, and to show off the layering tee I added. I didn't need the tee for modesty, I think it's quite a high neckline even though it's a wrap dress. I just thought the colours would go well together and it helped keep me that little bit warmer in the office.

As it's also the second time I've worn this, another purchase review:
I really like this dress! I'm glad I bought it (although I can't say I was pleased coming across it reduced even further recently!). I don't have many petite items, mainly Jeanswest and Asos, so it's nice to find another petite brand which does great work wear. I wish I had waited a little longer to buy it until after the final reductions, but I know I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on it.

Last worn: blue layering tee, geometric print faux wrap dress, Marc by Marc Jacobs flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearblue layering tee on it's own, printed dress with turquoise scarf, two tone flats with a maxi dressBalenciaga city bag and a baby bump.

Last Minute Gift Ideas | Corporate Style in Pregnancy: Printed Dresses and LV Speedy Bandouliere

With the summer heat and humidity rising in Brisbane, I've been wearing my dresses a lot. Even non-maternity dresses are great options for a growing second trimester baby bump. Wearing an old favourite and a new one I bought recently just to give me another pregnancy office wear option.

What I wore:

Away from Blue | jeanswest paisley mixed print dress baby bump in the office

AwayFromTheBlue | JORD wood watch Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
DressJeanswest 'Melanie' paisley mixed print dress
Belt: came with dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs studded mouse flats in grey (on sale in black)
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

I picked up this dress in a Jeanswest sale when I was in the third trimester of my last pregnancy, and it comfortably fit the baby bump then. I love the colours and print of it, and how accommodating it is!

I think I could have accessorised this better - maybe a different bag - but otherwise I was comfortable and happy in this outfit for the office.

Last worn: Jeanswest mixed print dress, studded mouse flats, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere bag.

Other ways to wearJeanswest mixed print dress and blazer without a baby bump, studded mouse flats and skinny jeans, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere and denim shorts.

Do you still have some last minute gifts to buy for Christmas?

I thought I'd share a Shopbop gift guide. (Since you kindly mentioned that you didn't mind gift guides and some even found them useful.) With 3 day shipping worldwide and gift wrapping, Shopbop is a great place to shop if you need something quickly.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Second Trimester Office Wear printed wrap dress non-maternity outfit

AwayFromBlue | printed wrap dress Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
Dress: thrifted Target printed wrap dress (new purchase)
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

When I was freaking out that I was outgrowing my wardrobe so quickly and had nothing to wear, I had a little hunt in the local op-shops, as well as hitting up the Jeanswest maternity section. I found this printed wrap dress for a dollar! Best op-shop buy ever! I really like the only maternity wrap dress I have, so I figured for a dollar I'd get plenty of wear out of this wrap dress in my pregnancy too. Especially in the office.

It's a size larger than I would normally buy, and it's longer than I'd usually go for, but that just means it's got plenty of length as the baby belly grows bigger and starts to make the dress shorter. The extra fabric to wrap around should hopefully ensure I can wear this through all three trimesters too, unlike my other non-maternity wrap dress that doesn't really wrap around enough in the third trimester!

Last worn: purple singlet, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere (above). First time I've worn the wrap dress as it's a recent op-shop purchase.

Other ways to wearpurple singlet and a maxi skirt, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats and skinny jeans, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere with winter layers.

Corporate Style: Wrap Dresses For Pregnancy Office Wear, Balenciaga Sorbet Pink City Bag

Now that the Christmas and New Year's holidays are over, I'm back to sharing my office style. Even though I wore both of these outfits before Christmas! Have been so behind with blogging, although I was dressing for the Fox in Flats DAREcember style challenge each day.

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Second Trimester Office Wear Printed Target wrap dress pink Balenciaga bag

AwayFromTheBlue | Balenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet Hermes pink clic clac
Necklace: custom Cooper charm by Silhoupette
Dress: thrifted Target printed wrap dress (with Supre pink singlet underneath for modesty)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes pink clic clac
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'she's a lady' so I figured a lady-like wrap dress with pink accessories was a great way to dress for the theme and still be office-appropriate. You can never go wrong with a wrap dress, and for only $1 this was an op-shop bargain I couldn't pass up!

Last worn: pink singlet, printed wrap dress, two-tone flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearpink singlet and a floral dress, printed wrap dress and purple singlet, two-tone flats and a plaid pencil skirt, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and a chambray dress.

Where to buy beautiful wrap dresses for under $100:

(I've already bought the first dress, I sized up so it works in the third trimester and it's perfect for the officeYou can see it on Instagram here)

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Soon Maternity 'Madeline' grey printed wrap dress second trimester office outfit

AwayFromTheBlue | JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch Balenciaga sorbet pink city bag
Necklace: Chanel necklace layered with Dogeared silver wishbone necklace and Dogeared 3 Wishes stardust bead necklace  (closeup on Instagram)

ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the next day was 'neck party' which I decided to do by layering some of my more delicate necklaces. This was before I got the awesome statement necklace from my bestie for Christmas, or that would have been perfect to wear.

Loved carrying my Balenciaga city bag the day before, so wore it again. I like the colour combination of pink and black. I've worn the bag and dress together before too, when I was in the third trimester with baby T.

Last worn: Soon Maternity wrap dress, black ballet flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag (above).

Other ways to wearSoon Maternity wrap dress and an orange bag, black ballet flats and skinny jeans, Balenciaga sorbet city bag and a maxi dress.

Corporate Style: Prints in the Office. Floral Cami and Pencil Skirt, Polka Dot Dress. Balenciaga Part Time

Back to regular outfit posts! Two more outfits I wore to the office. Both involving lots of black as it had been a tough week with baby T and I wanted simple, easy outfits.

What I wore:

CardiganJeanswest black cardi
NecklaceDogeared silver wishbone necklace (on sale!) layered with Dogeared 3 Wishes stardust bead necklace
CamiAtmos&Here 'Isla' ruffle cami in floral print
SkirtAsos tailored tab front pencil skirt in grey
Shoes: Wittner 'Bloomy' black heels
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

This is what I wore on Saint Patrick's day. (Yep, I'm 2 weeks behind with posting what I wore!) I wanted to wear something with a little bit of green in it, as sometimes the office can get really into holidays. I didn't want to go overboard though, so I thought this printed top with the little bits of green worked nicely. I saw lots of people dressed up in very green outfits when I was walking through the city during the day, but sadly there wasn't a lot of green in the office. I was pleased I hadn't pulled together an overly green outfit! Went with all black accessories as that was easiest, and because I needed a cardi to cover the spaghetti straps of the cami for the office.

I've been participating now and then in the #RediscoverYourWardrobe instagram tag. This outfit was another one that met the challenge as last time I wore this cardigan was over two years ago! I wore it with black and white and some red accessories last time, it was a little more colourful this time around with the printed top. This skirt is another wardrobe oldie, last worn when I was 21 weeks pregnant and still hiding the baby bump in the office.

I was debating if I should keep these heels or not. They are very tall, but actually very comfortable despite the height. I wondered if the style was a bit dated though. I got these shoes in 2013 and while they are black, they aren't exactly a classic timeless style. I was scrolling through my instagram feed that day and saw an extremely similar pair being featured as a new style arriving at a store I follow, so I'm not worried any more. They will stay in my wardrobe!

Last worn: black cardiganAtmos&Here cami, grey pencil skirtblack heels, Balenciaga Part Time.

Other ways to wear: black cardi with a neutral outfit, printed cami and colour blocked maxi skirt, grey pencil skirt worn with blue, Balenciaga black part time with monochrome outfits (and a baby belly!).

What I wore:

DressFrench Connection spotty cotton dress
Shoes: Wittner 'Bolla' black bow detail flats
Bag: Balenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

Why I wore it:

This dress is another oldie! I last wore it in 2013, back when I was exhausted as I was suffering from really bad morning sickness. I wore it then as I was tired and wanted something to nice and easy to wear to the office. Tiredness is the reason I picked it again this time, although I was tired because I was sleep deprived with baby T and hadn't had time to pick out an outfit the evening before like I usually do. LBD, black accessories and I was done, off to work. Easy :) Although running late meant I didn't notice the messy hair, or have time to fix it before photos, ha!

Last worn: French Connection LBD, black ballet flats, Balenciaga part time (above).

Other ways to wear: polka dot dress with pink accessories, black Balenciaga with a pink outfit.

Casual Denim Shorts Outfits - Stay At Home Mum Style

While I am back at work, I still have some days to spend with baby T, so I am getting to enjoy the more casual stay at home mum style outfits a little longer. Despite it being autumn, it's still quite warm in Brisbane and shorts and a tee is a good go-to. One day I tried to dress that casual outfit combination up a little, and the other I just kept it easy and simple.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with reaching for the same thing every day, parent or not. Some days just getting out of pyjamas is something to be celebrated, no matter what you've pulled on. And some days you don't have the time, energy or reason to wear anything other than PJs. I just want to try new things now and then and break away from the fail-safe outfits, wear more of what I have in my wardrobe instead of reaching for the same things over and over. Thank you for following along with my little journey! Hopefully you find something interesting or relevant or inspiring, just as I do reading other blogs.

What I wore:

Blush Pink Boyfriend Blazer graphic tee shorts acne pistol boots LV Speedy B

Away From Blue Handbag Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
JacketJeanswest Nadine 3/4 Sleeve dusky pink blazer
Top: gifted Monsterthreads star print graphic tee
ShortsJeanswest denim cuff shorts
BootsAcne pistol boots in "skin"
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere (with Coach feather bag charm)

Why I wore it:

Another awesome Monster threads tee from my bestie! She got me one a couple years ago with a cute cat dog print on it. I actually got this tee for Christmas! I was doing a monthly style challenge on instagram in December so couldn't wear it right away, and then did another style challenge in January. This tee didn't fit any of the challenge prompts so I put it in my wardrobe to wear later...and it got lost in between all the other tees I have! I 'found' it again one day and knew I had to wear it. Isn't it cute?

This was a slightly more dressed up version of a comfortable casual jeans and tee outfit. I went out with DH and baby T to baby's favourite indoor playground. As it was a little cooler, I wanted to wear my blazer. And you have to wear socks to run around inside the ball pit and things, so closed in shoes were needed. I thought Pistol boots were a slightly more dressy option than Converse. I like wearing these shorts and boots together.

I have to say I really liked this outfit. I was a little unsure about the first two outfits with this new blazer, but I love it here. I wouldn't change a single thing about this outfit. I was really happy with how it turned out, and pleased at how quickly I could put my shoes on again after baby T had enough of playing and was ready for to go home for a nap - I just had to zip up my boots, no fiddling with laces!

Last worn: Ray-ban wayfarersblush pink blazer, denim shorts, Acne Pistol bootsLouis Vuitton Speedy bandouliere bag.

Other ways to wear: pastel pink blazer with a dress, wearing denim shorts in cooler weather, pistol boots with a dress.

Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere (with Coach feather bag charm)

Why I wore it:

In contrast to the outfit above, this is a plain and simple shorts and tee outfit. No modifications necessary. This is what I wore a few days after the outfit above, for my wardrobe detox with the personal stylist. I figured I'd need to wear something comfortable and easy to try clothes on with. As you can see I took it off and on a lot - got very creased. I wore the teething necklace just in case baby T got grouchy and needed to be kept amused as we sorted through my wardrobe. He ended up preferring the stylist's necklace over mine though, poor Maudie probably has some tiny teeth marks in her beautiful wooden statement necklace now!

This was good for running errands afterwards too - had to pop out to the post office to start my closet cleanout that I have on ebay. The majority of the things I have listed were things we decided just weren't doing any good for me any more during the detox. It was nice to get some more space in my wardrobe!

Corporate Style: Marc By Marc Jacobs Lil Ukita Bag

Consistently, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Ukita bag is one of the most clicked items on my blog. Probably because the rock lobster colour is awesome and it brightens up a neutral outfit really well. It's the perfect size for taking to work too.

What I wore:

Away from Blue | Second trimester black maternity jeans in office bright stripe tank

AwayFromTheBlue | Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Little Ukita bag in Rock Lobster
Necklace: thrifted pearl and heart charm long necklace
TankJeanswest 'Hannah' print tank in paradise pink multi
JeansJeanswest maternity skinny jeans in black
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats (also available in silver)
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs black leather Swarovski beaded wrap bracelet and JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagMarc by Marc Jacobs Little Ukita bag in Rock Lobster

Why I wore it:

As it was a slightly cooler day, I figured I'd get some wear out of my maternity jeans and wear them to the office again like I did with my last pregnancy. I did want to wear a button up shirt to look a little more professional, but couldn't find one that actually buttoned over the baby bump, ha! it was too hot to consider a blazer too, so I just wore the bright tank by itself.

I'm surprised I haven't worn this tank and bag together before, the colours go really well together.

Last worn: striped tank, Jeanswest maternity skinny jeans, Walnut Melbourne ballet flats, Marc by Marc Jacobs Lil Ukita.

Other ways to wearstriped tank and a maxi skirt, maternity skinny jeans post-baby, ballet flats and a pencil skirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs Lil Ukita and a striped dress.

What I wore:

SkirtAsos maternity panelled pencil skirt in tartan check (non-maternity version here)
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs studded mouse flats in grey
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes twilly worn as a bracelet (Confettis D'ex-Libris from 2009)
BagMarc by Marc Jacobs Little Ukita bag in Rock Lobster

Why I wore it:

Fully embracing the casual side of business casual with a grey tee and a pencil skirt for another day in the office. I'm lucky that my workplace has such a relaxed dress code and I can get away with wearing tees in the middle of the week.

After my Melbourne trip and drooling over some scarves and twillies in Hermes, I decided to get my twilly out again. I really can't pull off the neck scarf look without looking like a flight attendant, but I like wearing it around my wrist. I've done so before, but silk is not the most practical fabric to wear around a toddler so it hasn't been worn much recently. Need to make more of an effort to wear it. It was a nice way to have some colour in my outfit even when I wasn't wearing the bright Ukita bag.

Last worn: grey tee, tartan pencil skirt, studded mouse flats, Marc by Marc Jacobs Little Ukita bag (above).

Other ways to weargrey tee and a colourblock maxi skirt, tartan pencil skirt with brown and orange in third trimester, studded mouse flats and a printed dress, Marc by Marc Jacobs Little Ukita bag in winter.

Corporate Style: Colourful Office Wear with Mulberry Alexa Bag

After my awesome wardrobe detox session with a personal stylist, I've been looking at my wardrobe differently. It's given me some more outfit ideas for old favourites, and a reason to re-wear some pieces that haven't been worn in a while. It's definitely generated a lot of inspiration for me with my wardrobe! Below are two outfits where I tried different things for my office wear. Quite colourful too with the pinks and blues and my lilac Mulberry Alexa bag.

What I wore:

black shrug cardi asos pink satin tank french connection stripe pencil skirt office

Away From Blue Mulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey
CardiganJeanswest black cardi
NecklaceHouse of Harlow sunburst necklace in silver and grey
TankAsos satin singlet in pink
SkirtFrench Connection 'Abby' twisted skirt
Shoes: Wittner 'Bolla' black bow detail flats
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagMulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey

Why I wore it:

I had wanted to wear this pretty skirt to the office again, after last time I wore it when I was finding it tricky to wear casually outside of the office. Pencil skirts are not the most practical or comfortable choice for life at home with baby! Good for the office though. I wasn't sure what to wear it with when I saw the tank and remembered that when Maudie did my wardrobe detox, she loved this top. And I do too! I've always wanted to find more like it, but have never had any luck. It's something that's been on my wishlist for a while, I keep looking for similar pieces. So easy to dress up or dress down, it goes with everything. And even hides a second trimester baby bump!

Kept the outfit simple and comfortable with flats - the skirt is quite clingy so I wasn't comfortable adding heels into the mix. Good for a fairly meeting-free day in the office.

Last worn: black cardigan, pink satin singlet, French Connection stripe skirt, black flats, Mulberry Alexa bag.

Other ways to wear: black cardigan with a printed top, pink singlet hiding a second trimester baby bump in the office, striped skirt for second trimester office wearblack flats with a black maxi dress, foggy grey Mulberry Alexa with a black outfit.

What I wore:

Print and texture outfit acne pistol boots french connection paisley dress boucle jacket

Away From Blue Mulberry Alexa bag in regular size worn on arm
Necklace: custom Cooper charm by Silhoupette
DressFrench Connection blue Paisley print dress
BootsAcne pistol boots in "skin"
BagMulberry regular Alexa bag in foggy grey

Why I wore it:

This dress was something I was thinking about donating, but I wasn't completely sure. It was one of my first dress purchases specifically for the office, back when I had just started my current job. Lots of fond memories. During my wardrobe detox Maudie wasn't overly impressed with the dress on me, but we spoke about it for a while and now I have a few different ideas for how to wear it. I won't let it leave my wardrobe just yet, although it definitely will be leaving at some point.

Was a little on the fence with this outfit though! I wanted to wear my new jacket and I tried on a few ideas in front of the mirror the night before, wasn't sure about the textured jacket with the printed dress...maybe a little too busy. In the end I couldn't make up my mind and decided I should just give the combination a go. I always tend to think my first few autumn layering outfits look a little off, takes me a while to get back into the layering mindset after the hot and humid Brisbane summers! Fashion is all about fun anyway, and it doesn't really matter if the outfits work or don't work I still get a chance to try again the next day! :)

One thing I did notice fairly quickly is that this jacket is not as ideal for the office as I hoped it would be. It's got zipper details on the sleeves, which are cute, but the zipper pulls are not the best when typing at a keyboard! So much noise...had to take the jacket off while I was at my desk. Something I hadn't thought about when I bought it! I like the mix of gold and silver thread through it though. Hoping the weather continues to cool so I can wear it more often.

Last worn: Paisley print sheath dress, Acne Pistol boots, Mulberry Alexa (above). First time I've worn the boucle jacket.

Other ways to wear: blue paisley print dress with pink accessoriesMulberry foggy grey Alexa with lilac and grey outfit.
