Grey Tees, Printed Kimonos, Denim Maternity Shorts and Louis Vuitton Speedy B Bag

There have been some great entries in my sunglasses giveaway! Don't forget to check it out and enter as it ends Friday.

Over the summer, I've found I've worn very similar outfits so I've had no problems grouping pictures together to post. Shorts and kimonos have become a favourite with me this season, and you can't go wrong with a good grey tee!

What I wore:

Away From The Blue | Summer Pregnancy Outfit grey tee denim shorts kimono LV Speedy B bag

AwayFromTheBlue Blog | Louis Vuitton damier ebene speedy bandouliere 30 handheld
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers (on sale!)
JacketSomedays Lovin' Yakuza print kimono
Necklace: Happiness Boutique turquoise and coral pendant necklace (C/O)
TeeJeanswest 'Lucy' colour block tee in grey marle/rosebud
ShortsJeanswest maternity rolled up shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

I've mentioned before that if I'm wearing a top in one colour, I'll usually wear a jacket in a different colour that doesn't match. But after trying a black tank and black cardigan together for the Fox in Flats Style dare, I wanted to give it a try again with the grey tee and grey kimono. I really liked the way this looked.

The style challenge was 'lazy days' and I think this outfit nailed it as reaching for this kimono is starting to become an easy, lazy option, ha!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, Somedays Lovin' kimonopink and grey tee, Jeanswest maternity shorts, Havaianas, Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere.

Other ways to wearpattern mixing with striped tank and printed kimonopink and grey tee and printed shorts, denim shorts and a maxi cardigan, Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere in the office.

Great grey tees under $50:

(I have the first tee and highly recommend it, size down for the best fit! Last worn here)

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Second Trimester Summer OOTD choies red print kimono grey tee denim shorts

AwayFromTheBlue | Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
JacketChoies red vintage pattern kimono
NecklaceAustralian coin and crest necklace layered with Roie Designs feather, quartz and love charm long necklace
TeeMarc by Marc Jacobs blossom pocket tee in grey
ShortsJeanswest Georgie maternity boyfriend shorts (available in non-maternity also)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere

Why I wore it:

The style challenge for the day was 'I forgot I had this' which doesn't really happen in my wardrobe now. After the wardrobe detox session I had, I cut down on a lot of what I own and I know everything that's in my wardrobe. I do have pieces that haven't been worn in a while though, like this kimono and the grey tee, so decided to wear them to meet the challenge instead.

Perfect for working from home and attending an OB appointment in the afternoon.

Last worn: Choies red printed kimono, Marc Jacobs tee, maternity denim shorts, Havaianas (above), Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere bag (above).

Other ways to wear: layering a kimonogrey tee layered up for winter, maternity denim shorts and a green tee, Louis Vuitton speedy bandouliere with winter layers.

We had some Easter celebrations at work on Thursday, before the public holiday on Friday. That meant casual dress, so I had the chance to wear something super comfortable to the office. Despite being a little worried initially, I saw someone else in the office later in shorts, so I wasn't the most casually dressed person there. Usually when our area has dress down days when others might not I put a bit of effort in to not look too casual, but Thursday I just wanted to be comfortable!

We were encouraged to wear something to match with the Easter theme of the day so pastel singlet and bag seemed like a good choice, with the addition of a scarf for warmth in the morning. One guy dressed up in an Easter bunny onesie, and a few people wore bunny ears! Spent a bit of the day getting messy with egg decorating and taking part in the competitions too. It was a fun and relaxing end to the day before the long weekend.

Good Friday, and the first day of our long weekend! Another casual outfit as we didn't get up to very much, spent some more time preparing the house and nursery for baby's arrival. I did a lot of relaxing and lazing around too, haha! I'm being mindful of enjoying the time off and not pushing myself too much. Shorts and a tee was comfortable and perfect. These maternity shorts have been worn a lot more than I thought they would. The maternity tights I just 'had' to buy are still sitting unopened!

Wore this tee over my others as it has the fun pink panel on the back - supporting Renae from Simple Sequins with her Pink Friday as she faces cancer treatment.

Funny weather on Sunday - I had my scarf off and on all day as the rain came in now and then to cool things down. Picked a simple shorts and tee outfit as we had a dog trainer helping us with Cooper, to make sure that he is prepared when baby arrives. I wasn't sure how active we would be, so shorts seemed like a good choice. It's going to be a bit of a shock for Cooper when we arrive home with baby, so we want to make the transition go smoothly for him so he doesn't feel left out.

Oversized tee and pencil skirt combination again today! As I get further into the third trimester and baby grows larger, I'm more and more amazed by the ladies at work who managed to stay stylish and professional through their pregnancies. They made it all look very easy! I certainly felt under-dressed when I checked my calendar at work the morning and realised I had a huge meeting in the afternoon.

In my current project at work there are 3 pregnant ladies, and one of the guys is expecting his second child with his partner. While it's funny that this project seems to be the "baby" project, it's great that we can all share tips and advice with each other as first time mums. It is definitely baby year in the office, there are 3 other babies due in the wider team as well!

Pregnancy Wardrobe Essentials - Review of Maternity Pieces in My Wardrobe

While I'm in the hospital with baby, I've set up a few scheduled posts.

As soon as I can I will be back to posting my usual daily outfits. Until then I hope you enjoy the little break and slight change of format.

First up, talking about my pregnancy wardrobe and the maternity pieces I wore through my pregnancy.

I had a total of 14 maternity pieces to supplement my existing wardrobe. I've included links below so you can see when I wore them, and how often I wore them. My goal was to buy as little maternity pieces as possible.

Tops:

Dresses:

Skirts:

Shorts:

Pants:

You can hear my thoughts and opinions by watching the video, but in summary:
  • I was lucky to have a lot of pieces in my existing wardrobe that worked well in pregnancy. Lots of flowy, loose, oversized and stretchy pieces meant I didn't need much maternity wear. I'll do a follow up post about the non-maternity items I found most helpful.
  • Maternity tops I found tricky to wear as the extra length swamped my petite frame.
  • Dresses were the easiest, most comfortable maternity wear option for me. Great go-to pieces!
  • The Asos maternity pencil skirts I bought were fantastic for work and I'd recommend them to anyone who has to dress for pregnancy in the office.
  • Jeanswest maternity denim is the only brand of maternity jeans I tried - perfect first time so I didn't try to look elsewhere.

I hope that you found this post useful, and that you can pass it along to anyone who might benefit from it :) Different from my usual posts, but I thought that laying out what I wore and how I wore it during my pregnancy might come in helpful for someone.

Jeanswest Maternity Shorts and Jeans. Striped and Printed Tops, RM Mini MAC, Balenciaga Sapphire City

Here's what I wore to go shopping on Sunday:

Weird weather on Sunday! Was rainy and overcast but still quite warm. I ended up wearing a long sleeved tee and shorts combination, which kept me pretty comfortable all day. This striped top is another of the ones I bought in my last Iconic sale order. So perfect - although stripes usually are! We bought the last of our big purchases for baby as well, very exciting :)

Last worn: Jeanswest maternity denim shorts, Havaianas, Rebecca Minkoff metallic mini MAC. First time I've worn the top as it's a recent purchase.

Here's what I wore to work today:

Was a little cooler today, so longer sleeves again. Thought this printed top would look nice with the skinny jeans. A lady in the office this morning commented that it was good I could still fit into skinny jeans during my pregnancy, haha! They have a big (adjustable) elasticated waist, and the denim has some stretch to it too. The compliment did me feel a little better for outgrowing my first pair of maternity jeans though! I'm blaming that on the lack of stretch in the fabric, and not all of the chocolate baby seems to have a craving for.....

Zibibo Maternity Purple Maxi Dress Review, MbMJ Fran Bag | Casual Tee and Denim Shorts, Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC

Here's what I wore on Saturday:
Zibibo Australia MEV Havana Maxi Dress in Iris Orchid MbMJ Fran

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran Carob brown purple blue mixed metal bracelet stack
NecklaceHouse of Harlow Dynamic necklace in gold
Dress: MEV Havana maxi dress C/O Zibibo
Belt: Forever New 'orchid petal' skinny belt
Shoes: Wittner 'Jasmarie' studded sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus old multi-coloured bangle set, Disney Couture Winnie the Pooh bangle, pastel friendship bracelet C/O Seri Marea Jewellery
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

This is the beautiful maxi dress I chose from Zibibo Australia that I mentioned previously. It's the MEV Havana maxi dress and comes in black, grey, blue and purple. I had a hard time picking which one to get, thinking at first that maybe I should be practical and go for the black or grey. Since I don't have any purple maxi dresses, I settled on the 'Iris Orchid' colour. So glad I did, it is an absolutely stunning colour. One thing to mention is that the dress is sold as ankle length, but is the perfect just above the floor length for my short frame.

Figuring out how to dress a growing baby bump is a learning experience almost every day, but I like that I can just throw this dress on, know it will fit, and feel pretty. And I'm not the only one that has high praise for it! I posted this dress on instagram, and it was picked up and regrammed by Ifabbo! We had a few appointments and errands to run on Saturday, and everyone I spoke to asked me about the pregnancy, how far along I was and told me that I looked fantastic. The best feedback for this dress I think, when complete strangers take the time to tell me I'm looking good!

Like the bubble tank that I wore on Thursday, the dress is made of bamboo and cotton so it's really comfortable to wear and won't need ironing. And it's designed for nursing too. The items on Zibibo cost more than I'd usually have considered for maternity wear, but seeing how well designed they are and how long they are supposed to last, the prices make sense. Everything I received I will be wearing long after baby has arrived. Zibibo sell baby clothes too, so I'm going to have to pick up something for baby!

If you are pregnant, I hope you've enjoyed my little reviews of the maternity wear I was sent. Thank you so much to Michelle from Zibibo for kindly offering me the pieces, I know I will get a lot of wear out of them.

Shorts: Jeanswest maternity rolled up shorts (new purchase)
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual plus Balenciaga coated stud wrap bracelet in icy blue
BagRebecca Minkoff mini MAC with python embossed leather in aquamarine

Casual shorts and tee outfit today. The denim shorts are new - I caved and bought maternity shorts to see me through the tail end of the summer heat. Glad I did, although there was a lovely breeze today it was still rather warm, couldn't have worn jeans! I've seen many bloggers wearing yellow lately too, I was inspired to pull out the only yellow top I own.

I spent a little bit of time yesterday afternoon cleaning out the rest of my wardrobe to have a clean slate for baby's room, and spent most of my time at home today continuing with that. Wanted to be comfortable as I moved stuff around. Not the heavy stuff though, DH had to help me with that! I'm getting tired out a lot easier than before, so I'm taking longer to do things. Trying to focus on small tasks and make steady progress :) Have completely dismantled my handbag wall and all of my handbags are now hiding in 3 boxes under the bed instead of being out on display. So exciting to think that soon where my bags used to be we will have lots of baby things instead!

Jeanswest Maternity Denim: Casual Friday Skinny Jeans, MbMJ HIllier Hobo | Saturday Shorts, RM Mini MAC

Here's what I wore for Casual Friday:

Simple jeans outfit for casual Friday. I'm so glad Jeanswest make maternity jeans so I have an easy casual Friday option! Although it was fun trying denim free casual Friday outfits late last year when I had outgrown my jeans and was still trying to hide the baby bump, it's nice to know I can just pick pants and a top and I'm set! :)

This top has a lovely print with a little bit of pink in it. I thought the pink singlet would be nice with it, and choose some pink accessories too.

Last worn: French Connection print top, maternity skinny jeans, two tone flats, Marc by Marc Jacobs Hillier hobo.

Another simple, casual outfit! So glad I bought these shorts, as although it's officially autumn now the weather is still nice and warm.

Today we spent some more time at baby stores and picked out and picked up baby's crib. So excited to have the first piece of nursery furniture! I kept going around and snapping pictures of cute nursery ideas too. We won't be painting baby's room as DH is quite minimalist when it comes to decorating, but there are lots of cute accessories and cot sets. I'm in love with a little Disney Winnie the Pooh set at the moment, it's adorable! Sadly, quite expensive. Now we have the dimensions for the cot though we can start thinking more about colour schemes and themes, so much fun.

Pregnancy Capsule Wardrobe: 22 Items for Third Trimester Maternity Wear

Dressing in pregnancy is a fun challenge as the baby bump grows and changes every day! In order to simplify things this time around, I implemented a third trimester capsule wardrobe.

Why I Made a Pregnancy Capsule Wardrobe:

  • I've never tried a capsule wardrobe before (unless you count living out a suitcase for travel).
  • The baby bump was outgrowing my current wardrobe faster than I anticipated this time around.
  • I didn't have the luxury of time that I had in my first pregnancy to try on lots of outfit options each night and find things that still fit. (Or I didn't have the energy to do so after spending time with my toddler!)
  • The summer heat and humidity (that continued well into autumn in Brisbane) left me less inspired to try new things.
  • I had lots of great maternity pieces I wanted to wear as much as possible to make sure I got my money's worth.

Third Trimester Capsule Wardrobe in Video Form:

Below is a video covering the pieces in my capsule wardrobe, how I wore them, and my general thoughts about the experience.

The 22 Items In My Pregnancy Capsule Wardrobe:

A Few Notes On My 22 Items:

I didn't include accessories (scarves or bags or shoes) in this count. I also didn't include 'completer' pieces like my printed kimonos or blazers. I freely grabbed these from my wardrobe as and when I wanted them.

The pieces included were suitable for my part time office job, as well as being perfect for a stay at home mum the rest of the week.

Not everything was a maternity piece, I used pieces from my regular non-maternity wardrobe too.

There were a few times at the start of the third trimester where I wore pieces that weren't included in the capsule, but after realising they were getting uncomfortable I stuck to my capsule wardrobe for the majority of the time.

The 22 items I had were great over summer (and multiple heatwaves!), but would need to be changed for cooler weather. Simple things like swapping the maternity denim shorts for jeans instead, and some long sleeved tops and fewer tanks.

Outfit Combinations from a Pregnancy Capsule Wardrobe:

Some photos of my favourite third trimester outfits from my capsule wardrobe to give you an idea of how I wore all the pieces in the third trimester. Not an exhaustive list, as 3 months worth of daily outfit photos would be a pretty big post! You can see all the outfits I wore in the third trimester here.

For my first capsule wardrobe experience, it was pretty fun, and I hope that it gives you some ideas or inspiration to try your own capsule wardrobe if you've often thought about it too.

Balenciaga Tempete Day Hobo Bag. Baseball Tee, Striped Maxi Skirt, Converse | Ninja Baby Tee, Maternity Shorts

Here's what I wore on Friday:

Friday was ANZAC day. As usual, DH and I went to the local dawn service, so I was a little tired in photos! I dressed warmly with a singlet under this top and a colourful hoodie over it. It allowed me to take off more layers as the day heated up. Ended up just wearing the singlet for most of the day.

Going to the dawn service each year is our family tradition, it's interesting to think that this time next year we will be there with baby. It's good to take a moment to respect and remember the bravery and courage of those who served and are still serving in our defence forces.

Last worn: baseball tee, striped maxi skirt, white converse, Balenciaga tempete day bag.

Casual Saturday outfit. We had to take Cooper to the vet today for his vaccinations, poor little guy. He was not happy to be in the examination room, but he got lots of attention afterwards, and of course some treats too.

I've had this ninja baby tee for a while. My sister gave it to me as a Christmas gift, and made sure it was a size larger than normal so I could wear it the entire pregnancy. Like I do with most items in my wardrobe, I'd been saving it for the "perfect occasion". Came across it last night and realised that I only have 6 weeks left to go, I should really be wearing and enjoying it more often instead of saving it. Got lots of comments and giggles on it today, it's so fun! :) Was glad I wore it. Might have to wear it to one of our antenatal classes too, that would be a good occasion.

My ebay auctions end soon - check out the results of my clothes and handbag clear-out, and pick up a bargain :)

Last worn: maternity denim shorts, Havaianas, Balenciaga day bag (see above). First time I've worn the tee.

Baby's Arrival and Postpartum Hospital Style

Thank you all for your sweet comments and congratulations on the arrival of our second beautiful baby boy. Just like I did when baby T was born, thought I'd do a little wrap-up post here for those who don't follow me on instagram.

Baby boy had a very speedy arrival into the world! Baby T's birth was fast for a first time but at least then we had time to finalise the admission paperwork before things really got started. This time around I was answering the admission questions with my newborn baby in my arms! I'd been regularly waking for the past week or so with contractions around 3 am that eventually stopped every time, so I wasn't sure if this was another false alarm at first, and stayed for a while at home.

I foolishly thought that the midwife was just being encouraging when we arrived and she suggested that it wouldn't be long before baby arrived. We actually made it to hospital just in time. I took her a little more seriously when I had to start pushing and she reassured me that they could deliver the baby themselves if the on-call obstetrician didn't arrive in time. He did. Just! While baby surprised us all and arrived before my OB had returned from her holidays, the lead midwife was the same one who had helped us deliver baby T, so it was really special having her there.

Wanted to share my 'first days with a newborn' outfits that I posted on instagram. To show that you that everyone's different post-baby and you shouldn't set overly high expectations on yourself. Just relax and enjoy your baby! They don't care what you wear, they just want lots of love and cuddles.

There were a few comments left on the blog, especially near the end of the third trimester, where people commented that they were surprised I wasn't wearing trackie dacks/sweats/joggers or pyjamas in my pregnancy. Part of that was having the third trimester capsule wardrobe to make dressing easy, and also because I knew that the comfy clothes would become my 'uniform' in the newborn days. In pregnancy you want to be comfortable yet you still have some energy to put into picking nice outfits. With a newborn, your focus is on them only. Although you might try find clean clothes to wear at least, style is not a priority!

What I wore:

Singlet: Best and Less red stripe breastfeeding singlet
PantsJuicy Couture original drawstring pant in 'Silver Lining'
Bracelets: the usual

Why I wore it:

This was my 'fancy' outfit for visits from extended family. I packed and wore my pyjamas most of the time in hospital, but kept a clean nursing singlet and pair of trackie dacks for when extended family members came by to say hello and meet baby. In the early days with a newborn, comfort is key, so this is as 'pulled together' as I looked.

Last worn: trackie dacks. (Can't find a pic of this singlet on the blog, although it's an old one).

What I Packed in My Hospital Bag (Second Time Around)

What I wore:

JacketNew Look Petite print kimono (on sale, 70% off!)
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace
TankJeanswest Carla maternity cut out tank (non-maternity version)
ShortsJeanswest maternity rolled up shorts
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
Bracelets: the usual

Why I wore it:

This was what I wore to take baby home from hospital, and also what I wore while I was in labour! I always lay my clothes out the night before, so when I went into labour in the early hours of the morning I thankfully had some clothes to grab. I didn't want to be walking through the main hospital in my pyjamas!

I was pleased I'd taken the time at home to put some clothes on. When we got to the hospital the contractions were so strong and fast as I'd hit transition in the car. It was drawing a lot of attention as I had to keep stopping as we walked to concentrate on getting through every contraction. They really shouldn't have the maternity ward at the back of the hospital...I lost count of how many staff members offered hubby a wheelchair to get me to the birth suite!

It was nice to have some 'normal' clothes with me to change into to take baby boy home too, although as soon as we got home it was back to pyjamas again ;)

Last worn: blue kimono, maternity tank, denim shorts, Havaianas.
