Why I Made a Pregnancy Capsule Wardrobe:
- I've never tried a capsule wardrobe before (unless you count living out a suitcase for travel).
- The baby bump was outgrowing my current wardrobe faster than I anticipated this time around.
- I didn't have the luxury of time that I had in my first pregnancy to try on lots of outfit options each night and find things that still fit. (Or I didn't have the energy to do so after spending time with my toddler!)
- The summer heat and humidity (that continued well into autumn in Brisbane) left me less inspired to try new things.
- I had lots of great maternity pieces I wanted to wear as much as possible to make sure I got my money's worth.
Third Trimester Capsule Wardrobe in Video Form:
Below is a video covering the pieces in my capsule wardrobe, how I wore them, and my general thoughts about the experience. The 22 Items In My Pregnancy Capsule Wardrobe:

A Few Notes On My 22 Items:
I didn't include accessories (scarves or bags or shoes) in this count. I also didn't include 'completer' pieces like my printed kimonos or blazers. I freely grabbed these from my wardrobe as and when I wanted them.
The pieces included were suitable for my part time office job, as well as being perfect for a stay at home mum the rest of the week.
Not everything was a maternity piece, I used pieces from my regular non-maternity wardrobe too.
There were a few times at the start of the third trimester where I wore pieces that weren't included in the capsule, but after realising they were getting uncomfortable I stuck to my capsule wardrobe for the majority of the time.
The 22 items I had were great over summer (and multiple heatwaves!), but would need to be changed for cooler weather. Simple things like swapping the maternity denim shorts for jeans instead, and some long sleeved tops and fewer tanks.
Outfit Combinations from a Pregnancy Capsule Wardrobe:
Some photos of my favourite third trimester outfits from my capsule wardrobe to give you an idea of how I wore all the pieces in the third trimester. Not an exhaustive list, as 3 months worth of daily outfit photos would be a pretty big post! You can see all the outfits I wore in the third trimester here.
For my first capsule wardrobe experience, it was pretty fun, and I hope that it gives you some ideas or inspiration to try your own capsule wardrobe if you've often thought about it too.

I don't think i could do a capsule wardrobe on a daily basis, but had less than 22 items for my third trimester. But then again I just don't care that much about fashion, which is why I didnt mind wearing the same things day in and day out without much change.

I was surprised by how many outfits I made out of the 22 items! I was still coming up with new combinations in my final week, so you definitely don't need that many :)

This was such a smart idea to do a capsule wardrobe for your third trimester! You came up with so many creative combinations too. I'm going to have to save this for future reference, because I loved wearing a lot of skirts and dresses when I was pregnant too. They're the most comfortable!
ReplyDeleteYes I found skirts and dresses the most forgiving all the way through my pregnancies! I am pleased I gave the capsule wardrobe a try, it worked really well for me :)
DeleteWhat a great round up! I love the jean shorts and the wrap dresses! Everything's so versatile!

Great collection of items, and I think wrap dresses are very versatile for women in general. My sister like you also incorporated non-maternity pieces. :)
ReplyDeletePistachio Cake
Best way to do it I think! The more non-maternity pieces you have the more you can rewear later :)
DeleteWow, this is such an incredibly helpful post, Mica! This provides so many great ideas for preparing one's wardrobe to dress the bump ahead of time, taking the fuss and frustration out of the whole process. Thanks so much for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have an amazing weekend!

A capsule wardrobe is such a great idea, I wish I could sit and force myself to do one as I could definitely do with space and I just do not need all those clothes! I love how you've managed to make each piece contribute and look completely different!
ReplyDeleteMusings & More
Yes I'd been thinking about it for a while, pregnancy was a great time to try as my options for what to wear were pretty limited already, haha!

Great job working from a capsule wardrobe to rock that third trimester style! I think I also had one out of necessity in a "whatever fits" situation, I definitely rewore combos a lot more than I did when not pregnant.
ReplyDeleteI think pregnancy is the perfect time to rewear more than usual - just wear whatever fits! I was lucky to have a lot to choose from :)
DeleteThis is such a detailed post! I love that teal top you wear, paired with the floral jacket!
ReplyDeleteMacarons and Mischief
this is such a wonderful idea!

You look fab in all the outfits! You wear your baby well :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!!
I'm trying to put a capsule wardrobe together. I still have to pair down. Mica, I think you did a fantastic job mixing & matching items. They all worked and looked great on you. Sometimes you don't need a lot of things! So good for you!

I think downsizing my regular wardrobe into more of a capsule is next for me too....but we will wait a while before I attempt that! Good luck with your capsule!
DeleteIt would be so hard to limit your accessories! That's what helps you make so many different combos haha!
ReplyDeletewww.amemoryofus.com
It would be, especially for me, I love my accessories! ;)
DeleteI think its a great idea to put together wardrobe capsules, I do for travel all the time. I think that for pregnancy it's even better although more challenging for the last months. You certainly proved it can be done.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had travel packing down better, would have made capsule wardrobe planning easier!
DeleteSuch a great idea! Love this post!

What a great 3rd trimester pregnancy capsule wardrobe! I had a chuckle when I saw your photo wearing the skeleton tshirt - I love it! I would have loved a twin version of that when I was pregnant with my twins!
ReplyDeleteIt is such a fun tee, I'm so glad I got to wear it again! :)
DeleteI had no choice but to have a capsule wardrobe when I was pregnant. I just ran out of clothing options!
ReplyDeleteYou looked just lovely. This shows the power of fitted clothing, hey!
It is crazy how quickly the choices whittle down!
DeleteI had no idea you did a capsule wardrobe during this pregnancy, which is great because it showed how versatile each piece was and you made all 22 pieces work and that's so few! You are adorable in the video too, by the way.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I was surprised how many 'new' outfits I seemed to be able to come up wit with so few items! Definitely makes me rethink my overflowing wardrobe...
DeleteThank you all for your kind comments! :)
ReplyDeleteNice idea, especially putting in mind that when pregnant you are limited fashion wise
