Wrap Tops and Blue Textured Pencil Skirts for the Office

I've shared before about how easy it is to wear breastfeeding clothes after you've stopped breastfeeding. I bought a few wrap tops to help with breastfeeding, but they are still getting worn now. They are a really stylish option for work.

Ended up going a little monochrome, wearing my blue wrap tops with textured navy pencil skirts for the office. And of course my latest bag purchase, the purple Balenciaga work bag.

What I wore:

Necklace: Lovisa silver love knitted heart pendant necklace

Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs waxed leather cream howlite beaded wrap bracelet and Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagBalenciaga raisin purple 2009 giant silver G21 hardware work bag

Why I wore it:

With warmer spring weather, I know there are going to be less opportunities to wear this longer sleeved wrap top. As I said last time I wore it too! It was good to take the chance to wear it again. I really liked how it looked with the blue lace pencil skirt, it made for a nice monochrome outfit.

An easy outfit was just what was needed after spending the past few days with a sick baby and a lot of waking up in the night. Throwing on my favourite colour (blue) to boost my mood, makeup to hide the bags under my eyes and I felt pulled together enough for a day in the office.

Debated for a few minutes in the morning trying to pick out a necklace to wear with this top. I settled on this silver heart pendant that hadn't been worn in a while, but I think a longer necklace might have worked better.

Last worn: blue marle wrap top, ASOS lace pencil skirt, silver ballet flats, Balenciaga purple work bag.

Other ways to wearblue marle wrap top in winter, lace pencil skirt worn casually, silver ballet flats and wrap dress, Balenciaga purple work bag and printed dress.

Why I wore it:

Another day at work, another sick boy! Toddler T had fallen ill the day before, so once again it was monochrome blue to try lift my mood and give me a bit of a boost to power through the work day. This time around I went with a longer turquoise beaded necklace with the wrap top, and I really liked this combination.

As the top is short sleeved, I added the cream jersey blazer to keep me warm in the office air-con, but I really didn't need to keep it on outside as it was such a warm spring day.

You can tell it's spring as the sun is rising earlier and my usual photo spot isn't in shade as much as usual! It's really tricky early in the mornings now trying to get a photo that's not in bright sunlight. Going to have to start changing up my photo spot.

Monochrome Winter Office Outfits: Pencil Skirts and Matching Knits

Returning to work in winter has meant I not only get to wear my neglected pencil skirts that were packed away in pregnancy, but also some of my winter knits I haven't seen in a while! I had a little fun trying to create monochrome outfits, even if one of the outfits wasn't my first choice for what to wear.

What I wore:

monochrome winter office outfit with blue accessories grey beaded jumper pencil skirt | AwayFromBlue

ScarfMarc by Marc Jacobs bright blue stole
KnitWarehouse grey bead front jumper
SkirtAsos tailored tab front pencil skirt in grey
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs silver tuxedo flats
BagRebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in moon navy (on sale in pinkor in white)

Why I wore it:

To help make things easier with my return to work, I've gone back to laying out what I want to wear for work the night before. I used to do this a lot before kids came along - now I usually plan it out in my head before falling asleep. Despite a tough and tiring day, I decided to actually try on what I'd set out the night before, and I'm glad I did. Although it's 16 months post-baby, the fixed waist zipped pencil skirt I wanted to wear still didn't fit! ðŸ˜‚

It had always been a bit of a snug fit and my diastasis recti wasn't helping the situation. I was able to take the time to find something else that fit, this lovely pencil skirt. Hooray for elasticated waists! Still managed to achieve a monochrome look liked I'd first planned by picking this lovely grey beaded knit to wear with it. Not a bad outfit, one that looks quite nice in the photos actually, just not what my first choice had been!

Last worn: navy mac, cobalt scarf, beaded jumper, grey pencil skirt, silver ballet flats, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote.

Other ways to wearnavy mac and striped dress, cobalt scarf and maxi skirt, beaded jumper and skinny jeans, grey pencil skirt and floral cami in summer, silver ballet flats and purple jeans, Rebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote and plaid shirt.

Perfect for pregnancy: embellished jumper in first trimester, grey pencil skirt and hidden 20 week baby bumpRebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote and wrap dress in third trimester.

BagRebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in moon navy (on sale in pinkor in white)

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, this planned outfit worked perfectly. This pencil skirt is stretchy and has an elasticated waist - it worked quite far into my pregnancies too!

No scarf with this outfit so I took the chance to wear my favourite statement necklace. I didn't need the scarf as it was supposed to get up to summer temperatures in the middle of the day. I did however need the cosy knit to keep me warm on my very early morning commute. I'm usually up and out the door early, but had to leave just as the sun was starting to rise, which is the reason for the colours being slightly off in the photo. You can see the lights still on behind me in the dark! Thankfully my camera copes okay with low light settings and the photo doesn't look too bad. I also got to see a beautiful sunrise while waiting for the train, so a pretty good morning overall.

How You Can Wear It:

If you're unsure how to wear your pencil skirts to the office in winter, add some cosy tights (mine are fleece-lined!) and a matching knit. It's an easy, monochrome outfit that will keep you warm. If your office dress code is more formal or corporate, it's easy to layer a button up shirt under your knit and take your jumper off when you reach your desk.

Corporate Style: Balenciaga Tempete Day Bag, Pencil Skirts and Leather Jackets

Two more office outfits, both featuring blue prints. It's been a while since I've worn my Balenciaga day bag and so I thought it was a good idea to get it out again. I like wearing it with blue.

Just wore my leather jacket instead of my usual go-to trench coats as it was a little warmer. I am looking forward to the end of winter and being able to wear fewer layers!

What I wore:

ScarfNali feather print pashmina scarf
Shirt: Target blue abstract floral print shirt (new purchase)
SkirtJeanswest black ponte pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

Excited to get to wear my newest purchase! I bought this Target top back in July, when I was supposed to be doing #noBuyJuly15. I always end up buying something in sales, so I should never have decided to take a look at the sale. At least I only bought one thing. For only $10 I'm really happy with it, it's the kind of top I can wear to work and at home with baby too, so I'm not beating myself up too badly for buying something and not meeting the challenge 100%.

Last worn: printed leather jacket, feather print pashmina, black pencil skirt, Walnut Melbourne flats, Balenciaga Day bag.

TopJeanswest 'Tilda' black shirt
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

It's been a while since I wore this blue skull scarf too! During my wardrobe detox it was called out as a colour that's not great right next to my face, and something I should get rid of. I couldn't part with it though! I'm keeping it as I can live with the fact that I'll just look more tired on days I wear it, like I do here.

I'm trying to wear this pencil skirt a little more over winter. I tend to wear it a lot in the warmer months with bare legs, and not so much with black tights in winter. I'm trying to wear it more often to ensure I'm making the most of my wardrobe year-round. Not everything will work for all seasons, but I'd rather have the majority of things in my wardrobe being able to be worn all year, so I'm not leaving things unworn too long.

Corporate Style: Printed Pencil Skirts, Trench Coats and Scarves

It's starting to get really cold in the morning taking outfit pictures! Brisbane's winter has reached its single digit temperatures so it's at the coldest point. My trench coats have been getting a lot of wear, being the biggest jackets I have.

Around this time last year I wore a lot less as I wasn't commuting early in the morning and facing the cold temperatures. I had the luxury of being able to nap when baby did in the morning and only venture out with my tiny newborn in the heat of the day, or even staying inside all day and having people come visit us cosy at home. The middle of the night feeds were freezing, but walking around with a doona wrapped around your shoulders is acceptable when the only face you will see is a hungry baby. A trench coat is a poor alternative, although much more socially acceptable for a commute!

What I wore:

Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown
Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal skull scarf in white/pink (on sale!)
TopAsos crochet shell top in cream
Skirt: Cotton On 'Mica' mesh spot skirt in dusty pink
ShoesWittner 'Bloomy' black heels
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

It's been such a long time since I last wore this jumper, almost 2 years ago! I used to wear it a lot in the early days of the blog (with all my headless blogging pics). I realised the other day I haven't worn my jumpers often this winter, so this one was the first one I picked out to try wear more. Although it hasn't been worn in a very long time, I'm keeping it as I liked it in this outfit and I have more ideas for other ways to wear it in future.

Last worn: beige trench, pink skull scarf, crochet knit jumper, polka dot pencil skirt, ankle strap heels, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag.

Other ways to wear: trench with a printed dressskull scarf and shorts in summer, jumper layered over a dress, polka dot pencil skirt with polka dot top, ankle strap heels with a printed dress and bare legs, 40 weeks pregnant with Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag.

Scarf: Cotton On turquoise pashmina
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace
TopJeanswest Elise longline emroidered shirt coconut blue
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
ShoesWalnut Melbourne 'Ava' black lizard ballet flats
BagRebecca Minkoff medium MAB tote in moon navy

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit, but hate the photos as I think the scarf looks silly! I looped it around like I normally do after the photos. I wore it this way just to try show off the detail on the top. I know this skirt looks better with heels than flats too, but my knee needed a bit of a break from heels as I knew I had a lot of walking to do that day.

Had been wanting to wear this shirt to the office with this skirt for a while, and I stumbled across a little week-long style challenge on instagram that called for a white shirt. I don't have a white shirt (hate ironing shirts and too clumsy for white) so I figured this white tunic was close enough. So even with the weird looking scarf placement and the stumpy legs the skirt and flats combination gave me, I was really happy in this all day.

That's one of the good things about sharing every outfit I have time to photograph - it means even if the photo is terrible, I still have a record of how great I felt in an outfit to help me on those 'I don't know what to wear' days. I search the blog every now and then when I'm staring at my wardrobe trying to think of what to wear! I'm never going to have perfect photos, and I'm never going to have perfect outfits. I'm happy with that, and I'm happy to have you reading along too. Life doesn't have to be perfectly posed and styled all the time - it never is behind the scenes.

Corporate Style: Pencil Skirts and a Bit of Blue

Sharing more of my office wear. The return to work has been tricky, but baby T and I are handling it well I think. From an outfit perspective, I've been enjoying wearing my pencil skirts and 'dressing up' in corporate wear for a change.

Here's what I wore to work:
stripe shirt blue lace pencil skirt nude heels LV neverfull bag Office Style Brisbane Business Casual

Louis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull Blue outfit JORD fieldcrest wood watch
NecklaceDogeared 3 Wishes stardust bead necklace layered with Chanel necklace
Shirt: Target mint stripe shirt
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
Shoes: Wittner 'Lumen' heel in patent leather
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

A lot has changed since I was away on maternity leave, and the team I'm working with day to day has changed quite a bit. I'm still doing the same role as I was before, just working with different people. There was a big department meeting where everyone from all our locations got together and the newbies and myself had the chance to introduce ourselves to over 100 people. I've mentioned it before on the blog, but public speaking is one of my great fears. I've done a few things to try and get over it (like recording youtube videos to get used to speaking to an 'audience', and taking part in a presentation skills group), but I don't think I'll never get rid of those nerves entirely.

As I was incredibly nervous, I dressed in my comfort colour - blue! This blue lace pencil skirt has to be one of my favourites, it always gets compliments on the blog and instagram too, the best sale buy. I've linked up some similar ones below. I thought the striped shirt worked nicely with it, you can't really see the stripes unless you're up-close, but stripes are always good for pattern mixing anyway. I felt as comfortable and confident as you can be when presenting I guess.

I went with heels for that extra confidence boost, and I picked these nude patent ones as I don't remember them being the most comfortable last time I wore them. I was expecting this to be their last wear, but I was really happy in them through the day so they are staying in my wardrobe. I need to ease myself back into wearing heels with my dodgy knee! They will never be as comfortable as flats of course!

Last worn: striped shirt, blue lace pencil skirt, nude patent heelsLouis Vuitton Neverfull.

Other ways to wear: shopping with a Neverfull, casual pencil skirt outfit, hiding a second trimester baby bump with a button down shirt.

Here's what I wore to work:
Femminine office outfit pencil skirt bright accessories polka dot ruffle blouse

SkirtJeanswest zip detail ponte pencil skirt
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs suede flats in red
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagBalenciaga part time in black 2010 with SGH

I put this outfit together around the red flats. I was inspired by something Audrey posted about how to wear bright shoes, and realised I don't really wear these red flats a lot, considering how comfortable they are. I've worn the top and the shoes together before, (even with the same skirt!!) but not with a red necklace. One of Audrey's ideas was to wear a necklace and shoes that compliment or contrast a colourful top. Although I don't like the way the necklace looks with the neckline on the top, I was happy with the outfit overall. And very comfortable not wearing heels all day, hehe!

Blue! Printed Maxi Dress, Lace Pencil Skirt and Teething Necklaces

Two more outfits as I continue on with the 'JaNEWary' style challenge. Both of these outfits fit the prompt for the day, but neither were what I would have worn if I wasn't playing along with the challenge. It's good to wear more of my wardrobe and avoid falling into a style rut though, that's one of the benefits of following along with a monthly challenge.

Here's what I wore to go out with family:
Blue and Purple lace & LV neverfull casual pencil skirt outfit
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
NecklaceNibbly Bits Abacus necklace in pop
TankJeanswest Jenni basic singlet in Royal Lilac purple
SkirtAsos blue textured lace pencil skirt
ShoesAsos 'five star' leather sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes pink clic clac
BagLouis Vuitton MM damier azur neverfull

The style challenge for the day was to 'wear something outside your comfort zone'. I don't really own anything I'm uncomfortable in, if I do have it in my wardrobe I usually make the decision to get rid of it when I next wear it. I thought that wearing a pencil skirt casually would be a good thing for me to try again. I've tried a few times on the blog to wear a pencil skirt outside of the office, but I always feel I can't dress them down enough.

Wore this pretty lace pencil skirt with a simple tank and baby T's teething necklace. The last time I wore this pencil skirt was to the office - when I was in the third trimester!

Even though the pencil skirt has an elasticated waist and is really stretchy and comfortable to wear, I wasn't entirely comfortable in this outfit. The longer length of the pencil skirt came in tricky with picking baby up and putting him down a lot. Also felt very overdressed for going out with our families to pick up the photos from the photo shoot we had a few weeks back. I couldn't help thinking that with a blazer or cardi over the top, I'd wear this to work! Maybe the problem is that my office is so casual to begin with. Was definitely an outfit outside of my comfort zone, I much prefer pencil skirts for the office.

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarerspurple tank, lace pencil skirt, Asos sandals, Louis Vuitton damier ebene neverfull.

Here's what I wore to have lunch with my family today:
Jeanswest Chantelle Printed Maxi Dress petite blogger Rebecca Minkoff Love bag
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Wilma necklace in pale daffodil (new purchase)
DressJeanswest 'Chantelle' crochet detail blue printed maxi dress (on sale!)
ShoesAsos 'five star' leather sandals
Bracelets: the usual plus gifted blue and silver bracelet stack
BagRebecca Minkoff Love cross body bag in grey

This was one of the days I wished I wasn't doing the style challenge, as I had wanted to wear a different dress. The challenge was 'wear a colour that enhances your eyes', so I went with this blue maxi dress and not the other dress I had been thinking of wearing. This dress is lovely and a wardrobe favourite, I love the back lace detail on it, but it's just not what I would have worn if I didn't have the challenge telling me to wear blue.

Still a pretty dress, and appropriate to wear for a lunch with family. My family had planned a big surprise...my grandparents had flown in! So many people had been keeping it a secret for me to have an amazing surprise. It was incredible to see them again and have them meet baby T. I haven't seen them for a very long time, it is wonderful having them here. I'd worn my new teething necklace in anticipation of having to keep baby T amused during lunch, but hardly had to use it at all as he was getting so much love and attention from everyone, we rotated him around so everyone could eat!

Rebecca Minkoff Grey Mini MAB, Lace. Jeanswest LBD, MEV Blue Bubble Tank, Asos Pencil Skirt

Here's what I wore to work on Wednesday:
Jeanswest Gisele contrast lace dress LBD for work in third trimester baby bump

After Monday's too long top and Tuesday's too short top frustrating me a little, I went with a simple dress today. It got lots of compliments, as it is a very pretty dress. Even got told in one of my meetings that I looked cute which really made me smile :) Unfortunately, as it's a standard dress and not a maternity dress, I did feel myself tugging it back down as the elastic waistband rode up over the bump through the day, haha. Maybe a belt would have helped it stay in place better.

Last worn: black lace dress, Wittner black flats, Rebecca Minkoff soft grey MAM.

Here's what I wore to work today:
Blue and grey asos lace pencil skirt over baby bump pregnancy

Bracelets: the usual plus Edenborough Evans 'Ivy' silver cuff
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

More lace! Wanting to feel feminine and pretty and so I've been going for lace it seems. This skirt is starting to be stretched beyond it's comfort zone now, although I'm hoping I can still get a few more wears out of it before baby arrives. For a non-maternity piece, it's made it through into the third trimester with me which is great. I had a lady come up to me at work today and ask how I was still managing to squeeze into this skirt with the baby belly - she was surprised the skirt had an elastic waist as she'd always assumed it was a normal zipper like most pencil skirts. All my zipper/button up pencil skirts are definitely unwearable now though!

With flowy/oversized tops, dresses and elasticated waist skirts, I'm pleased I'm managing to keep using my regular wardrobe as much as possible during pregnancy. Means spending less money on maternity clothes and more money on cute baby clothes ;)
