Every month I like to share what I've bought and how I've worn it. This month was a month of impulse buys, driven by sales. Grab a drink and watch the video where I go through everything in detail, and try everything on.
I know I don't usually include beauty products in my hauls, mostly because only wearing makeup two days a week to go into the office means I rarely have to buy replacements! But I picked up a couple of things in the Priceline 40% off sale.
No surprise I wore the navy Jeanswest top twice right away - it's perfect for SAHM life and office life. You could even breastfeed in it if you do the singlet underneath trick and lift it up for access.
I'm pleased I managed to wear everything else twice too, especially the kimono as I was worried it would be too warm to wear this month. Thankfully autumn weather started to arrive near the end of April so I could meet my goal and wear it twice! I like to wear everything I buy twice in the month I buy it. It ensures I buy things I can use right away, stops things being bought just to sit unworn in my wardrobe, and makes me think of different ways I can wear things before I buy.
When I got the email that Jeanswest had a sale on, I hopped on the site for a quick browse. I saw this top and instantly fell in love, and purchased it the same day. Originally $59, reduced to $20, I couldn't say no! While it's got the tassels and the studs, it's still a lovely neutral navy, and I can see it going with so much in my wardrobe. I wore it below for a casual day of shopping, and more formally for a day at the office.
After a busy few weeks, I was really looking forward to a relaxing day of shopping. As relaxing as it can be with two little boys in tow! Overall, they were pretty good. We had time to browse a few stores. I had a hunt through the Jeanswest sale again, and while I tried some things on nothing came home with me. My sister did buy this star print tee which you might remember I bought last month! We have quite a few of the same or similar pieces in our wardrobes actually, so I wasn't surprised when she picked it up.
With the navy top and navy shorts together, I wanted something to break it up a little. I was originally going to wear my pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag, but felt a bigger pop of colour was needed. The sorbet pink Balenciaga city bag was perfect, and it meant I could be matchy matchy with the Balenciaga sandals as well, not just the top and shorts.
I woke up this morning not feeling too great, but figured it was because of a busier than weekend. Put on this lovely top to boost my mood, and the Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag as I like how nicely the navy colours work together. Once I was at work I realised I couldn't shake the head cold, and ended up going home a little early after my final meeting for the day. I intended to rest up for a couple hours before the boys got home from daycare, with the idea that I'd feel better the next day after resting. Unfortunately, I did not. I ended up being pretty sick for a few days - as were the boys, which didn't help with resting and recovering! Thankfully we are all feeling much better now.
I'm glad it was a warm enough morning that I didn't need a blazer with this so that it was easier to see the fun studded sleeve detail. I did wish at the end of the day when I started getting feverish that I'd had a scarf in my bag to wrap myself up in though. Heading home to bed was the next best thing!

How You Can Wear It:
Neutral tops like this in modest cuts are perfect for casual days out with the boys, or more formally with a pencil skirt for the office. The beauty of a block colour top is that you can pair it with fun printed pieces without worrying about patterns clashing. I'm always looking for more ways to wear pieces in my wardrobe, so tops like this that do double duty in the office and on weekends are must-haves!
It's no secret that I love maxi dresses, despite being petite. I wear them fairly often as they are quick and simple throw on and go outfits. Sometimes when I'm trying to dress them up a little, I'll pick special accessories or bags to wear with them.
The Mulberry Lily bag I'm wearing in the photos below is definitely very special! It was something I feel in love with in a magazine but it sold out online while I deliberated over getting it. My friend (who now has her own handbag consignment business!) managed to find one in the UK, and I confessed to my mum I wanted to get it. My mum and friend worked together and I got gifted this beautiful bag!
It is very delicate so worn sparingly, but always makes me smile when I do get it out for a wear. Looks stunning with a maxi dress too!
As is typical for our Easter Sunday celebrations, I went with a maxi dress to wear to church. After church we had Easter lunch with the in-laws, a road trip down the coast and then Easter dinner and an Easter egg hunt with my family. A busy day!
It was cooler in the morning so I grabbed the denim jacket, but it heated up into such a warm day I didn't need it on long.
This maxi dress is one I'm trying to reach 30 wears on and I'm so close, so I've been wearing it a lot, mostly casually. I went super casual with it last time I wore it. To dress it up this time around, I added my special occasion pieces: the beautiful leopard print Mulberry Lily, a pair of wedges and my very sentimental charm bracelet. Perfect outfit for a wonderful day.
I've never done an Easter egg hunt before, so seeing the boys have their first one was hilarious. Such a special memory.
A rare night out! Some Church Online people were in town and there was a special barbeque hosted by one of the volunteers, for volunteers and their families. I did consider taking the boys, but as it was a little bit of a drive away and I wasn't sure how that would work with their bedtime routine, I left them at home with hubby and went out for the night myself.
I'm pleased I did as the afternoon BBQ quickly turned into amazing conversations and I didn't get home until after 10pm (late night for this mum!). It was so good meeting people from Brisbane who also volunteer at Church Online, I've been a chat host there for 7 years this year so it's a big part of my life and so incredible to get to meet up in person. My friend from out of state flew in, as well as two of the Life Church Online pastors from the US, so it was really wonderful to spend time with them.
Wasn't so sure with my outfit though! I'd originally thought of wearing a black maxi dress, but decided at the last minute to switch to this blue one for a little bit of colour. We had an appointment in the morning to go to first, so I spent most of the day with my Louis Vuitton Neverfull and switched to the clutch for the evening.
I like blue and red together, but wasn't so sure about the leopard print with the geometric print on the dress. I think I should have stuck with my original black maxi dress choice! Still was comfortable and happy in this for the BBQ, even if I'm not as happy with how it looks in photos.
There are so many different dress codes a maxi dress can work for. It's not too casual, and not too formal. It's a go-to for me, but to make it even more special you can pick out a fancy accessory or two, or add some wedges, to make it a little more dressed up than usual. A special statement bag like this printed Mulberry Lily is a great idea.
