30 Ways To Wear: Valleygirl Cobalt Marl Knit Jumper

In the first days of spring in Brisbane, I'm looking back to some colder weather outfits with one of my winter knits. Sharing 30 ways I've worn this beautiful bright cobalt knit I thrifted, over the years it's been in my wardrobe. It's the first jumper I've hit 30 wears on too!

30 Ways To Wear: Thin Cobalt Marl Knit Jumper

30 ways to wear cobalt marl knit jumper awayfromtheblue

Cost Per Wear

I purchased this bright cobalt marl knit at the opshop back in April 2015! At the time, I'd had a wardrobe detox session with a personal stylist after having my eldest boy and she pointed out my wardrobe could use some more basic block colour pieces. This fit the bill nicely and it was just $7 at Vinnies! At 30 wears so far, that's 23 cents a wear. And because it was a preloved thrift find, I'm sure it was worn more by the previous purchaser as well, lowering the environmental impact even further.

Valleygirl is a fast fashion brand in Australia, and not a store I shop at. But this knit has gone the distance over the years and is such a good opshop find. I've only worn it 30 times in the 9 years I've had it because the weather in Brisbane means I don't often need a cosy winter knit! I do enjoy wearing it when the weather cools though.

Knit Jumper Knotted Over a Dress

layering a cobalt marl knit over dresses 4 ways to wear awayfromtheblue

This is quite a thin and stretchy knit (it's synthetic) so it knots up beautifully to be worn over a printed dress. It adds a little more warmth to allow me to wear summer spaghetti strap dresses like these four on cooler days. I really like the way this jumper looks knotted over a dress.

Cobalt Knit With Skirts

5 ways to wear cobalt marl knit jumper and skirts awayfromtheblue

This marl knit is so versatile! While I've worn it over dresses in the first set of photos I also really like it worn with skirts for a similar look. It works just as well with a pencil skirt in an office outfit as it does with a maxi skirt for casual weekend or working from home wear.

Cobalt Jumper With Red

cobalt marl knit with red outfit ideas awayfromblue

This jumper being a block colour works so well with other pieces and colours in my wardrobe. I've worn this jumper with a lot of different colours and shades. Red and blue is always a bright and colourful combination, and any shades work well. Like the deeper burgundy jeans in the middle, or the brighter red skirt and jeans in the first and last outfits.

Cobalt Knit Jumper With Green

green and cobalt marl knit jumper outfit ideas awayfromblue

"Blue and green should never be seen" is not a rule I follow! I like this bright cobalt with different shades of green, just as it works with different shades of red in the outfits above. Although I don't find green as easy to wear as some other colours in my wardrobe, pairing it with blue is always a winning combination for me.

Cobalt Knit With Pink

blue marl cobalt knit with pink 4 ways to wear | awayfromblue

Blue and pink, again, as seen above with the other colours, is something that works in any shade combination! From pastel pink to brighter neon pinks, and even a darker magenta like that little Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag in the third outfit there. I really like the combination of blue and pink. No matter how much or how little pink is worn with this knit, it's always a good pairing.

Cobalt Knit Jumper With Purple

purple pink and cobalt blue knit jumper outfit ideas | awayfromtheblue

Blue and purple is another frequent go-to combination for me. And while sometimes I just stick with the two colours together like I have in that third outfit there, I often add in a little extra and make one of my most worn trios with blue, purple and a touch of pink. Cobalt never looks out of place with purple or pink.

Blue Knit and Black

3 ways to wear black and cobalt marl knit jumper outfits | awayfromblue

Of course if you're not sure what to pair a bright knitted jumper with, any colour works with black! This cobalt knit really pops when worn with neutrals like black, and the bold block colour means it looks good with printed black pieces, like each of the three printed bottoms in these outfits.

Cobalt Marl Knit With Stripes

4 ways to wear cobalt knit jumper with stripes | awayfromtheblue

While I've shown you a few ways to wear this jumper with prints in the other images, I really wanted to call this out as a separate combination with this knit jumper and stripes. With the marl knit having an almost striped appearance I worried at first pairing it with more stripes would be too much, but as you can see from each of these 4 outfits, it really works!

Blue Knits, Maxi Skirts and Lilac Polene Numero Neuf Mini Bag

More blue jumpers again! I only have a handful of knitted jumpers as they aren't needed too many days of the year here in Brisbane, but most of them are blue and I've been enjoying wearing them in the colder weather. This time around I've worn them with maxi skirts and scarves, to make the skirts work for colder days.

What I wore:

Scarf: Target Sadie woven scarf in blue spot print
Jumper: thrifted blue Mossman knit jumper
Skirt: thrifted Crossroads black ruffle hem maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagPolene numero neuf mini in textured mauve

Why I wore it:

This was a very cold morning, so this polyester ribbed knit jumper was the perfect choice for keeping me warm. The maxi skirt is perfectly light for a hot day, but with the jumper and scarf on top it kept me warm enough for an early morning vet appointment for Cooper after the school run, and then working from home before school pick up in the afternoon.

With the blue knit, navy scarf and blue Converse, there was a lot of blue in this outfit, so I wore my little Polene lilac Numero Neuf mini bag for an extra touch of colour. And because as much as I love blue, three shades of blue in an outfit indicated I probable needed to pick a different colour for my bag!

Last worn: polka dot scarf, Mossman knit, black maxi skirt, blue Converse, Polene Numero Neuf mini bag.

Other ways to wearpolka dot scarf and stripes, Mossman knit over a dress, black maxi skirt and denim jacket, blue Converse and pencil skirt, Polene Numero Neuf mini bag and dress.

What I wore:

Scarf: star print pashmina from Melbourne Markets
Knit: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Skirt: Target navy side split maxi skirt
Shoesthrifted white leather Chuck Taylor All Star Converse sneakers
BagPolene numero neuf mini in textured mauve

Why I wore it:

Another blue heavy outfit! Surprisingly I haven't worn this cobalt knit jumper with the navy stripe maxi skirt before! I figured this day was a good day to give the skirt a wear, as although it was a cold winter day and the skirt has a side split I spent most of the day inside, working from home. I only went out in the morning to drop my son off at his friends house and then pick him up again in the afternoon after work.

It was a very cold morning though, and even with this cosy pashmina scarf on top of the jumper I did wish I'd picked a maxi skirt that didn't have a side split, yet almost every winter I try making this maxi skirt warmer for the weather, I really should just leave it aside on colder days!

Last worn: cobalt marl knit, star print pashmina, navy stripe skirt, white Converse, Lilac Polene Numero Neuf mini bag (above).

Blue Knits, Pink Jeans and Rebecca Minkoff Edie Bag

More cosy knits to combat the winter weather in Brisbane. I'm wearing both of these blue jumpers with pink jeans and my Rebecca Minkoff Edie bag.

What I wore:

Earrings: Kmart lilac statement ball drop earrings
Scarf: Sportsgirl animal scarf in violet
Jumper: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Jeans: thrifted Zara pink frayed hem skinny jeans
Shoesthrifted white leather Chuck Taylor All Star Converse sneakers
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie regular shoulder bag in Luna blue

Why I wore it:

Completely layered up for a cold morning with this blue cobalt marl knit, and big cosy purple leopard print scarf with my pink frayed hem jeans. I added the lilac earrings as I felt they matched the lighter pastel purple in the leopard print scarf, although the shades are not a perfect match I really liked the combination.

There was a morning event at school that I hung around for after school drop off, and then I worked from home before school pick up in the afternoon. While it was still windy in the afternoon the sun was out so I was able to leave the scarf at home for school pick up.

Last worn: lilac earrings, purple leopard print scarf, cobalt marl knit, pink frayed hem jeans, white Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Luna blue Edie bag.

Other ways to wearpurple leopard print scarf and stripes, cobalt marl knit over a dress, pink frayed hem jeans with graphic tee, white Converse and skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Luna blue Edie bag and skirt.

What I wore:

Jumper: Jeanswest Beth ombre stripe knit pullover jumper in navy
JeansSass & Bide The Winning Day Lovestate jeans in magenta
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star coast blue
BagRebecca Minkoff Edie regular shoulder bag in Luna blue

Why I wore it:

Another cosy jumper and jeans outfit as I was feeling the cold on this morning! I had a couple of errands to run and my son had a birthday party to go to. This blue ombre knit jumper is quite warm and thick so I skipped a scarf with this, which was good as it turned into a warmer afternoon. I added statement earrings as well although it's a little hard to see the silver earrings in the pics!

Although the shades of blue and pink in this outfit are different from the one above, again I wore my Rebecca Minkoff Luna blue Edie bag. It just goes so well with any kinds of blues and pinks, and I like how organised it keeps me with the different compartments.

Knits and Maxi Skirts

Making some of my maxi skirts work in Brisbane's winter by adding some cosy knitted jumpers on top for colourful winter outfits.

What I wore:

Earrings: gold heart and pearl earrings
Necklace: double circle hammered pendant necklace
Knit: thrifted Forever 21 wine ribbed knit jumper
Skirtthrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagMIMCO Mim-Mazing crossbody bag in black and light gold

Why I wore it:

This was a fun weekend day! I thought it might have been a bit too chilly to wear this maxi skirt but with the thick burgundy ribbed knit jumper on top, I felt nice and warm. I've worn the ochre maxi skirt with reds and burgundy shades before, I really like the combination and I loved this darker wine coloured burgundy knit against the orange, especially with the black and gold accessories.

We had a few errands to run in the morning, my son had some birthday gift cards to spend as he had picked what he wanted to use the cards on, so we did that and then took Bonnie to her last puppy training class. She graduated, very proud of her! She was surrendered twice to the shelter before we adopted her so it's awesome to see how much she is learning and growing with us.

Last worn: burgundy knit, heart and pearl earrings, double circle necklace, ochre maxi skirt, black Converse, Mimco Mim-Mazing crossbody bag.

Other ways to wearburgundy knit and leopard print, ochre maxi skirt and cami, black Converse and dress, Mimco Mim-Mazing crossbody bag and jeans.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

What I wore:

Earrings: Kmart pink resin teardrop statement earrings
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal skull scarf in white/pink
Knit: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Skirt: thrifted ruffle hem leopard print midi skirt
ShoesAdidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

Another warm but colourful outfit! I wasn't sure if the cobalt marle knit and leopard print maxi skirt and pink skull scarf was too busy of an outfit all together, but I did really like the matching pink of the scarf and bag with this so gave it a go. I probably wouldn't wear the scarf and skirt together again, as it's a lot of print, but I'm glad I gave it a try at least.

Again it was a chilly and windy day, this cobalt knit was a great topper over the leopard print maxi skirt and I was warm for the school run, working from home, and then taking the kids out for a quick errand after school pick up.

Blue Knits Over Tiered Sundresses With Converse and A Black Tote Bag

For a couple of cooler spring days recently I layered up some cosy knits over these strappy tiered sundresses and Converse outfits, with the big, practical Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag. Jumpers over dresses is another good way to get an extra wear from knits outside of winter, before it heats up too much.

What I wore:

Necklace: thrifted orange bead statement necklace
Jumper: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Dress: thrifted peach and white floral print tiered sundress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
BagRebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware

Why I wore it:

This was a fun day! I'd taken a little extra time off work in the afternoon so I could wrap up working from home early and attend an open day at my son's school. It was good to watch them perform, and we got to check out their classrooms and some of their work that was decorating the walls. It was a great afternoon! It was a warm day, but not quite warm enough yet for me to go bare shouldered, so I added this thin knit over the spaghetti strap sundress. I like knotting this knit over dresses!

Comfortable Converse for walking around the school campus, and then because I couldn't quite decide on a necklace with this but I felt the neckline of this knit needed a little something, I picked this bright orange necklace. Not quite a match with the print on the dress, but I liked the two together.

Big Rebecca Minkoff tote bag to store a few extra snacks for the kids that afternoon!

Last worn: cobalt knit, orange necklace, pastel tiered sundress, white Converse, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag.

Other ways to wearcobalt knit and printed jeans, pastel tiered sundress and denim jacket, white Converse and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag and midi dress.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

What I wore:

Jumper: Jeanswest Beth ombre stripe knit pullover jumper in navy
Necklace: thrifted flat navy statement bead necklace
Dress: Kmart Aztec print tiered little black dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware

Why I wore it:

I realised I hadn't worn this ombre knit from my sister's wardrobe recently, so again I copied an outfit formula I liked above, with this ombre knit over the black printed tiered sundress. Just like in the first outfit I added a thrifted statement necklace. I liked this one against the navy in the knit. This knit isn't quite as thin or stretchy as the one above, so I just folded the hem under to get it to sit at a good spot with the tiers of the dress. It did annoy me through the day though as I kept fussing with it sliding around - knotting or just leaving it worn long would have worked better!

I did like the blue and black combination though, and again I went with the Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote. I didn't need to carry much, just the school run and working from home, but the black was the obvious matchy-matchy choice with the black dress and black Converse.

Last worn: ombre knit, navy necklace, black tiered sundress, black Converse, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag (above).

Other ways to wearombre knit and shorts, black tiered sundress and denim jacketConverse and maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag with pink.

Two Ways To Layer A Colourful Spaghetti Strap Maxi Dress For Winter

I bought this awesome, colourful geometric print maxi dress at the opshop for just $1. A spaghetti strap maxi dress isn't something I expect to get a lot of wear from in winter, but since spring is around the corner I know this will get worn more often. And before the weather heats up here in Brisbane, I was able to layer it up a little for the last month of winter, on some warmer days.

What I wore:

rebecca minkoff cupid satchel and geometric print maxi dress | awayfromblue

Earrings: thrifted red dinosaur skeleton earrings
Necklace: rose gold and turquoise beaded necklace
Jumper: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Dress: thrifted colourful geometric print maxi dress
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

We had a fun day out at Australia Zoo with the family, so I needed some comfortable sneakers for all the driving and walking. I also needed to be able to wear my knee brace to support my knee so that ruled out jeans. Decided it was the perfect time to give this maxi dress a wear! Since it was a little chilly, especially in the morning, I added this soft knit over the top. It's a bit oversized so I had to knot it to get it to sit nicely, but I loved the cobalt against the mix of colours in the print of the dress.

As always, wore my Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag. It is perfect for the essentials plus some snacks and water bottles that you need for a day out at the zoo with the kids.

Last worncobalt knit, earringsbeaded necklace, Sketchers, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag. First time I've worn the dress as it's a recent opshop find.

What I wore:

Jacket: Jeanswest Kitty denim biker jacket
Necklace: thrifted wooden geometric bead necklace
Top: Kmart teal tank (new purchase)
Dress: thrifted colourful geometric print maxi dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

The next opportunity I took to wear this dress was for a school run and working from home day, with a quick errand after picking up the kids in the afternoon. Again I layered over the top of this dress, with this teal tank this time, and the denim moto jacket for an extra layer of warmth as it was a chilly morning. It warmed up nicely though and when I went back to school to pick up the kids, the denim jacket was no longer needed.

With the mix of colours in the geometric print of this maxi dress, I felt the teal tank complimented all the different shades well. I thought that the blue and green in the chunky necklace tied in the colours nicely, especially when worn with the denim jacket. I really liked this outfit!

Last worn: denim jacket, chunky necklace, geometric print maxi dress (above), Converse, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid (above). First time I've worn the tank as it's a recent purchase.

Printed Scarves, Cosy Knits, Sneakers and Jeans

Layering up in some cosy knits and printed scarves recently, and wearing a few more of the pieces I added to my wardrobe in July.

What I wore:

Earrings: blue and yellow daisy resin earrings (new purchase)
Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl mixed print polka dots and stripes scarf
Knit: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper
Jeans: thrifted Atmos&Here white straight leg jeans
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

I am sure I've worn this scarf before but have had no luck finding it on the blog. I do have quite a few Fashion Scarf girl scarves to look through though! With the cobalt knit and these white jeans, I felt the outfit needed a little extra something, and this blueish grey scarf with the white stripes and polka dots was the perfect mixed print.

Nice and comfortable for the school run, working from home, and then a quick errand in the afternoon after school pick up.

Last worn: cobalt knit, white jeans, Sketchers sneakers, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bagFirst time I've worn the earrings as they were a recent purchase from the markets.

Other ways to wearcobalt knit and maxi skirt, white jeans with red, Sketchers sneakers and skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag and dress.

What I wore:

Earrings: blue and yellow daisy resin earrings (new purchase)
ScarfForever New skye foil feather scarf in berry / gold
Jumper: Jeanswest 'Serena' ombre knit
Jeans: Jeanswest Harper skinny pant in Russet
ShoesSketchers Bountiful navy fabric sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
Bagthrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue

Why I wore it:

This was a fun day! there were a few things on in the city for the weekend so the kids and I took a little trip. Managed to stop by my new office too and show them some of the sights, you get a good view of Brisbane from there!

As we had a lot of walking around to do I went with the Sketchers sneakers again! Nice and simple and comfortable for exploring the city with the kids.

I wasn't sure at first if the different burgundy shades in the scarf and jeans would work well together, but I'm glad I gave this a try as I really liked this outfit. Just like the one above, jeans and a jumper is so simple, and with a little extra print or colour form a scarf it helped me feel more pulled together.

Last worn: burgundy feather foil scarf, daisy earrings (above), ombre knit, burgundy jeans, Sketchers (above), Rebecca Minkoff Cupid (above).

Other ways to wearburgundy feather foil scarf and denim dress, ombre knit and trench coat, burgundy jeans and turquoise, Sketchers and skirt, Rebecca Minkoff Cupid and floral dress.

Jeans and Jumper Outfits With Striped Scarves and Rebecca Minkoff Cupid Bag

It's turning into regular winter weather in Brisbane, where knits are becoming a staple for me! I've paired both of these thrifted knits with some other more recent opshop finds, for some working from home and school run days.

What I wore:

thrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue | awayfromblue

Earrings: thrifted red dinosaur skeleton earrings (new purchase)
Scarf:  Fashion Scarf Girl black and white thick and thin mix print scarf
Knit: thrifted Forever 21 wine ribbed knit jumper
Jeans: Jeanswest Cecile dove grey skinny jeans
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bag: thrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

The tiny little red dinosaur skeleton earrings are hard to see in these pics but they are oh so cute! I stumbled across them at the opshop the same time I saw this beautiful vintage cupid bag, and I knew my boys would love them. I liked the little pop of red it added to the burgundy knit, even if it doesn't stand out in photos that much.

The burgundy knit was perfect for the early morning school run and staying cosy while working from home. I added the scarf to add a little more interest to the outfit, but but the afternoon, we had a couple of errands to run after school, and I'd decided the scarf wasn't needed after all. I did like the mixed stripes against the burgundy, it just warmed up a lot that afternoon!

Last worn: wine knit, striped scarf, grey skinny jeans, Adidas superstar sneakersFirst time I've worn the dinosaur earrings and Rebecca Minkoff cupid bag as they are recent opshop finds.

Other ways to wearwine knit with skirt, striped scarf with purplegrey skinny jeans worn 30 ways, Adidas superstar sneakers and shorts.

Scarf: Fashion Scarf Girl zesty stripe tassel scarf in pink
Jeans: thrifted Jeanswest faded black cropped butt lifter jeans
ShoesNew Balance Coast women's running shoe in black
Bag: thrifted Rebecca Minkoff vintage Cupid satchel in dark navy blue (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Another thrifted knit, striped scarf and jeans combination! It is just so comfortable for working from home and for doing the school drop off and pick up! While this cobalt knit is a nice way to add some colour to the faded black skinny jeans, the pink and red stripes in the scarf were such a fun pop against the cobalt I couldn't resist picking this scarf to add a little more colour. Unlike the scarf in the first outfit too, this one was needed all day to keep me warm.

Again I went with sneakers, as we had a couple errands to run after school pick up.
