Monochrome Maxi Skirt Outfits: Chambray and Grey with Rebecca Minkoff Accessories

I've been enjoying wearing my Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag lately. As I showed in a previous post, the mustard yellow colour is nice with a neutral outfit as well as other brights. I've worn it with denim shorts but below I'm wearing it with my other favourite option, maxi skirts!

If you're enjoying cooler weather right now, you should check out my guest post on Shea's blog showing different ways to style maxi skirts in fall. I wear my maxi skirts year round, not just in spring and summer.

What I wore:

Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Ava elephant pendant teething necklace

ShoesRebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale!)
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold

Why I wore it:

First wearing of my new tee. ($3 at Kmart, they have an awesome selection of basics at the moment!) I thought it would look nice with this maxi skirt. I've worn the skirt with a navy tee before and liked the colour combination but didn't like how the pieces sat together. I much preferred this blue tee with the chambray skirt. I thought the yellow bag was a good piece to break up all of the blue, and the nude Rebecca Minkoff studded sandals were perfect as well.

This is what I wore when I went out to catch up with some other mums and bubs from the Australian Breastfeeding Association. I hadn't been along to the group in a while with everyone being unwell so much over winter, but we were all better and had the morning free to attend for once.

Why I wore it:

Same accessories, same outfit formula! Monochrome maxi skirt with a tee, teething necklace, Rebecca Minkoff studded sandals and micro Regan satchel. When you like an outfit why not try recreate it again? I do it a lot!

This was a quieter day - a little bit of shopping and errands in the morning and then spending time with my mum in the afternoon. Just like the monochrome maxi skirt outfit above, this was easy to wear. This is an old grey tee that's one of my favourites, although I wear it sparingly as I don't want to wear it out too soon! I wore it to 'announce' my pregnancy with baby T in the office couple of years ago.

Even with the colourful outfit and bag though I felt this outfit was missing something - I like grey but this was a little too much. I think a kimono or scarf to add some more colour would have been perfect. I didn't like this outfit as much as the one above.

Spring Essentials: Denim and Vans

Spring has to be one of the best seasons for fashion. You get to start shedding the winter layers, find more outfit options in your wardrobe and have the chance to wear all your denim. Unlike summer or winter, both shorts and jeans are perfect as the temperature fluctuates day to day.

I went shopping at Glue Store to add some more basics to my wardrobe for spring. I focused on finding some basic black pieces that would work with everything already in my wardrobe. I'm trying to stay away from blue denim but as a stay at home mum I'm in jeans most of the time so black seemed like a smart choice. I picked up a pair of jeans from Nobody Denim and shorts from OneTeaspoon, both Aussie brands that I'm sure even my readers outside Australia have heard of. I checked out a few options from Cheap Monday, Lee and Articles of Society too but settled on the two here.

You'll notice I'm wearing Vans in these outfits too! My sister is loyal to Vans while I've always stuck with my Converse. I thought I'd try Vans out for a change and picked up an all black pair. They go with everything and are perfect with my new black denim. They are comfortable and practical for running around with a baby and toddler. I'm the same size in Vans and Converse, no further conversion needed so that's good to know if you're considering either brand.

Tank: Asos satin singlet in pink
Jeans: Nobody Denim Siren skinny super high-rise jeans in power black denim (C/O)
Shoes: Vans unisex old skool sneakers in black (C/O)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff neon pink mini MAC

This is the kind of outfit that's perfect for cooler spring days - some bright colours and lighter layers with classic black jeans. These skinny jeans from Nobody Denim are incredible. They are quite long on my petite self but I rolled them up a couple of times to get them to the perfect length. Even cuffed, when paired with the black Vans they make my legs look super long! The high waist helps elongate my legs and it's comfortable with my mum-tum as the fabric has the perfect amount of stretch in it. This is my first pair of Nobody Denim but it won't be my last, I'm really impressed with these jeans. They are made locally in Melbourne too.

While the mornings and evenings are cooler a denim jacket is a great topper, and the bright pink tank and bag are nice and colourful for spring.

As much as I love skinny jeans, there are some spring days - especially here in Brisbane - where it's too hot to contemplate jeans or even layers. The majority of my denim collection is packed away in warmer weather. A simple denim shorts and tee combo is a great go-to outfit on a hot spring day. And this was a hot one, forecast to be 34 degrees! We spent the day down the coast with my parents.

I added a little colour to my outfit with a bright Rebecca Minkoff bag as well but otherwise kept this to a pretty monochromatic colour scheme in contrast to the outfit above.

The shorts are the OneTeaspoon Hawks. I shared before that I was looking for a new pair of shorts and wanted something in a relaxed fit with a little bit of distressing but not too much. These were perfect. With the raw cuffed hem on these I think they will distress more as I wear and wash them which will be nice. You can see a better pic of the hems on my instagram. They have a high waist also, the feature that I love so much on the Nobody Denim skinny jeans. I stuck with my normal size in these, I was a little unsure which size to go for at first as it's my first pair of OneTeaspoon shorts but the size chart on the site was right, my usual size was the way to go.

Again I wore my Vans. They work just as well with shorts as they do with jeans. These are the "old skool sneakers" and they are such a classic style that as I mentioned above, work wonderfully with denim.

Are you a Vans fan? Do you pair yours with denim or branch out with more outfits?

This post, as always, has been written by me and includes all my own thoughts and opinions and styling. Some clothing was very generously provided by Glue Store.

Kimonos, Shorts and Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan Cross Body Bag

After a mini handbag clear out a while back I got rid of the yellow Rebecca Minkoff swing bag I had. I loved the colour but not the style so much. So when I saw this yellow bag in the Shopbop sale I had to buy it! It's a lovely mustard yellow that works nicely with other colours as well as neutrals.

When we had a few warmer than average spring days I was happy to get my denim shorts out again! It's been a while since they've been worn after being pregnant over last spring/summer. The two pairs I'm wearing below were last worn in April, a year and a half ago!

What I wore:

ShortsJeanswest black denim cuff shorts
Shoesslim gold Havaianas
Bracelets: the usual plus Cora purpleheart and mother of pearl watch C/O JORD
BagRebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold (new purchase)

Why I wore it:

Wasn't sure how this mustard micro Regan bag would look with the printed red kimono and singlet, but I'm glad I gave it a go as I really liked the combination! This was a simple outfit for a rushed trip around the shops in the afternoon. This top isn't the best style to feed in while in public for me. I don't feel very covered up pulling it down and it's fitted so is tricky pulling it up. I wanted to get out and back home before baby boy got hungry.  My mother in law kindly babysat toddler T so I just had to worry about fitting in with baby boy's needs.

Looking at my wardrobe and thinking about what I wanted to wear in spring I realised I needed some more basics, as I miss the maternity tanks I had in my pregnancy capsule wardrobe. I passed them onto a pregnant friend. Although I didn't find everything I wanted in the opshops, I did have some luck and managed to buy a few things. Also picked up a couple of clothes from Kmart, they have a really good selection of basics at the moment! While this outfit might not have been the best to feed in, it was perfect for quickly trying on clothes.

Last worn: red printed kimono, red Cotton On singlet, black denim shorts, Havaianas. First time I've worn the bag as it's a new purchase.

Other ways to wearred printed kimono and striped tank, red Cotton On singlet and maxi skirt, denim shorts and a peplum tank.

Why I wore it:

This outfit is pretty much the non-maternity version of this second trimester outfit! I liked the combination of the grey tee and grey kimono together so it was nice to wear it again. This was an easy and comfortable outfit for a hot day too. Grey tee, denim shorts and kimono with my newly bought accessories made getting dressed simple.

I had a stressful morning, taking baby boy for some blood tests as he's been unwell. I don't like having my own blood taken (the 3 hour glucose test in my pregnancies was not fun) but it was so much more difficult seeing my son have his blood taken!

On a lighter outfit-related note, I really liked the combination of the printed kimono and the harvest gold micro Regan bag together. The bag is so nice with the yellow on the kimono. I'll be wearing this combination more often.

It's the second time I've worn this bag, and I'm reviewing everything I buy after I wear it twice to try learn what works and doesn't work for my wardrobe. Although this micro Regan bag is more of a mustard yellow than the bright yellow bag it replaced, I really like this colour and think it will work just as well for spring and summer as it will in autumn. Happy I bought this, I'll try get a youtube review up soon.
