Blue Outfits, JORD Watch Review

I still have a backlog of outfit posts, but wanted to jump ahead a little and share these recent outfits from last week, as I'm eager to share my JORD watch review! The watch was provided to me free of charge for reviewing. As always, all opinions and outfits are my own.

Here's what I wore to go out shopping with baby T:
Summer Style Chambray Shift Dress White Scarf Studded Sandals LV Speedy

Away From The Blue Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere JORD Fieldcrest black
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
Scarf: white target crochet detail scarf
DressEzra chambray shift dress
ShoesBalenciaga studded sandals in sorbet RGGH
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch C/O JORD Watches
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere (with Coach feather bag charm)

Thought this dress would be a nice 'backdrop' to show off my new watch! I've heard that old rule that you shouldn't wear blue and brown together, but sometimes, like here, I think it works quite well. I didn't need the scarf for warmth as I was only popping out to the shops in the morning with baby T, it's just a cute decorative piece I thought was pretty with the dress. It actually keeps falling off the scarf hanger I my wardrobe and I keep resolving every time I put it back up to actually wear it soon, it's been long overdue a wear.

Paul from JORD watches contacted me and asked me if I would like to try a piece from their collection to review. I'm currently still on maternity leave and a stay at home mum, so there isn't a lot of appointments I have to get to by a set time. A watch is still helpful for me to have though, I've actually been thinking about wearing a watch again. Much easier to glance at my wrist to check the time rather than trying to find wherever I last left my phone when looking after a crawling baby.

I had the choice of 3 different styles, the maple Elly, the Fieldcrest black and the black and maple Sully. I picked the Fieldcrest as I liked the darker colour, even though the band would be too long (they have measurements on their website to guide you when shopping). No matter what watch I would have picked it would have needed to be resized. I'm petite so I've just gotten used to wearing things looser on my wrists. As you can see in the photos, the band is really large on me! I do want to get the watch shortened a little though so I can wear it for everyday. I think having it fitted would look nicer. JORD mentions on their website that you can resize it yourself if you have the right tools too, but I can't find a screwdriver tiny enough so I'll need to take it to the experts. I love the large face though, I think it's so beautiful.

The watch stands up to life with baby well. It survived the day, even sliding up and down my arm. It's such a unique piece, people do comment on it too. Mostly saying 'is it really made of wood?!'. I've only had it about a week so I can't review how long it lasts, but it's been ticking well since I got it, and I haven't had any problems. It looks and feels really high quality. Each watch comes with a warranty, and I've found them to be really quick and helpful via email if any problems were to arise.

The packaging is really impressive, as is the fast shipping. It only took 2 weeks from the US to Australia! If you're in the market for a watch I'd recommend JORD watches, as the wood is an interesting twist to a staple item. It would make a nice gift too, it comes in an adorable presentation box. You could always slip a little 'IOU a cute watch' in your Valentine's Day card and pick out a watch together for your partner...

Bracelets: the usual plus Balenciaga coated stud wrap bracelet in icy blue
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Ah, this outfit! This is what I had planned to wear all day, the morning being spent with baby T in his stroller. It's easier to wear a skirt when baby is in his stroller and I'm not running around bending over after him. By the afternoon though, the skirt had been replaced with a pair of denim shorts. Partly because the skirt just feels too short for life with baby! I've mentioned that last time I wore it too.

This skirt will be leaving my wardrobe. As pretty as it is, it's just not practical for my life right now. I don't feel comfortable in it. It will be so much easier getting dressed each day if I am faced with options in my wardrobe that I love and work for me for any situation, rather than having a wardrobe full of 'maybe one day' items. Slowly cleaning out my wardrobe, one piece at a time!

Black Skirts, LV Damier Speedy Bandouliere and Style Challenges

Nearly half way through February and I'm finally posting the last of my January outfits, and the last outfit from the #JaNEWary style challenge I participated in on Instagram. Also sharing some of my thoughts about participating in style challenges.

Here's what I wore to go out with my grandparents:
Away From Blue river Island Floral shirt black jersey maxi skirt LV speedy Bandouliere
SunniesRayban new Wayfarers
TopRiver Island floral print sleeveless shirt
SkirtJeanswest plain jersey black maxi skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere (with Coach feather bag charm)

The style challenge was to 'wear something you have bought in January'. I had planned to be spending a bit of time at the shops in January, taking advantage of those final reductions in the last few days of the sales and spending the gift cards I got for Christmas. However, my family had a big surprise planned, and my grandparents flew in to visit us and meet baby T. Most of January was spent out sightseeing around Brisbane and making the most of the time I had with my grandparents. As I'm still on maternity leave and being a stay at home mum, there wasn't much effort required to clear my schedule to spend time with them. It was wonderful. Since I didn't buy anything all month, I wore this pretty top I got given in January from my mum instead. Nice and cool outfit for lunch with my grandparents by the sea.

Wanted to try and be a little different from how I'd worn this top before, so I wore it with a maxi skirt this time. I know the shirt looks good with denim, but I'm trying to think of different ways to wear the things I own and not be too repetitive. That way I'm more likely to 'shop my own closet' and go shopping less when I'm looking for something 'new' to wear.

Here's what I wore to go out for lunch and a movie:

It's nice to share an outfit that wasn't put together because of a style challenge! Thanks for following along as I completed DAREcember and JaNEWary! Although I had fun dressing along with the style challenges I followed on instagram in December and January, at times they felt restrictive. It was sometimes a struggle to wear something that would fit the theme for the day and still be practical for life with baby. I think doing two month-long style challenges back to back was a bit too much for me, I was a bit over it near the end!

On the positive side, it was good getting to look at my wardrobe in a different way. The challenges gave me a chance to wear some little-worn pieces and to come up with combinations I wouldn't ordinarily have gone for.  It is good to mix things up now and then, and a style challenge is nice way to help me achieve my goals of wearing more of what I own and making each piece in my wardrobe something that is loved and frequently worn.

I wore this outfit because as I mentioned last time I wore the tank, I haven't worn it much since I got it because it didn't fit when I was pregnant. It definitely needs worn more, I really like it! Thought this black skirt would look nice with it. However, I wasn't entirely comfortable in this outfit, I think maybe the ombre and the beading and the jacquard fabric of the skirt is all too much together? Still, wore it out anyway as I didn't have time to change. Went out for lunch, did some shopping at Ikea and then watched a movie with my mum and sister.

Last worn: wayfarers (above), Jeanswest ombre tank, jacquard skater skirt, Asos leather sandalsLouis Vuitton Bandouliere(see above).

Casual and Comfy Grey Tee and Skinny Jeans. Dressed Up With Bodycon And Studs

Continuing on with posting the backlog of my #JaNEWary style challenge outfits. One really casual and comfortable outfit, and another a little out of my comfort zone.

Here's what I wore to go sightseeing with my grandparents:
Away From Blue Aussie Blogger Casual Outfit Grey Tee Skinny Jeans LV Speedy
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus necklace in pop
TeeAtmos&Here 'Amalphi' luxe grey tee
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagLouis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere (with Coach feather bag charm)

The style challenge was 'your most flattering trousers', which worked out well as it was a bit of a cooler day and jeans were perfect. Spent it by the sea with my grandparents enjoying the sea breeze, and having a really nice lunch. These skinny jeans have to be my favourite -  bought this same style and wash in the maternity range when I was pregnant too. I have a lot of skinny jeans but these always look good, definitely my most flattering pair.

This is the second time I've worn this grey tee since I bought it in December, so my purchase review:
I really like this tee! As I mentioned when I first wore it, I do have a lot of grey tees. But I like wearing them! It was hard to wear this twice in January after buying it in December, only because I was doing another style challenge and a grey tee wasn't one of the prompts, ha! I'm pleased I bought this tee, and I'll get a lot of wear out of it, but I'm starting to think I should stop buying grey tees as I have so many...

Last worn: grey tee, skinny jeans, Havaianas, Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere.

Here's what I wore to go out for dinner with my grandparents:
Away From Blue bohoo paisley print bodycon dress studded miu miu clutch

Away From Blue Miu Miu Cammeo studded clutch mixed metal bracelet stack
Dress: gifted boohoo.com paisley print dress in bodycon
ShoesBalenciaga studded sandals in sorbet RGGH
Bracelets: the usual plus Disney Couture Winnie the Pooh bangle
BagMiu Miu cammeo studded clutch bag

The Style challenge was 'be outrageous in a good way'. Bodycon dress with studded accessories felt outrageous. Made me glad that one of the breastfeeding singlets I'd picked up during pregnancy was a nursing shapewear piece from Jeanswest. Although there was no chance of breastfeeding in this dress, I enjoyed the 'tummy trimmer' feature of the singlet!

My mum picked up this dress for me on one of her op-shopping (thrifting) trips with my grandma. I've never owned anything from bohoo.com before, and it's a size larger than I'd usually wear, but it was just the right size for me. Reading the tag, I thought it might look a little loose on me and I could belt it, but I can't imagine trying to squeeze myself into my normal size in this! Maybe that's why it was donated to the op shop. It is a really cute print, but I'll continue to need to wear shapewear underneath it! Was a nice dressy option for dinner with my grandparents.

Last worn: Balenciaga studded sandals, Miu Miu clutch. First time I've worn the dress.
