Preloved and Thrifted Outfits: Magnificent 8

For this quarter's Magnificent 8 post we are all sharing our preloved or thrifted finds! I'm posting two outfits I wore back in the Easter school holidays, one where everything is thrifted and the second featuring thrifted find and a preloved purchase too.

Thrifted pieces are things I pick up when browsing through the opshops (aka charity shops or thrift shops depending on where you live). For the preloved pieces I find online on gumtree and ebay, I don't class them as thrift finds, as I didn't go rummaging through pieces in person. I search online listings from people selling preloved pieces to make more space in their wardrobes, so it's more second hand shopping than thrift rummaging. I'm lucky to have found a lot of handbags this way at bargain prices!

What I wore:

Jacket: thrifted digital print no label kimono
Necklace: thrifted blue statement beaded necklace
Tee: thrifted Cotton on grey tunic tee
Shorts: thrifted Jeanswest distressed denim shorts
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
Bag: thrifted Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr Q Convertible clutch in electric violet (with Balenciaga part time bag strap)

Why I wore it:

Everything in this outfit is thrifted! I wanted to set myself a challenge with this theme and see if I could pull together an entirely thrifted outfit for a morning playdate in the park and a stop at the library in the afternoon. It was easier than I thought!

The bag was a splurge at Vinnies at $65, but when I walked in and saw an authentic Marc by Marc Jacobs bag sitting there I wasn't going to say no! That colour! I had swapped out the currently oh-so-trendy short shoulder strap for a longer Balenciaga crossbody strap though from my Balenciaga part time bag. The denim shorts were another Vinnies find, at $7. The necklace, grey tunic and printed kimono were all picked up at my favourite opshop, where clothing is just $1. I paid $2 for the necklace there, I love the pretty blue shades in it. The shoes were a lucky find at another opshop, I was so sure that they wouldn't fit as I never find shoes in my size when thrifting but I really scored with these, they were just $3.

Much like all my outfits, the most expensive part of it is the bag! But bag aside this whole outfit comes to $13 ($78 including the bag) which is a lot less than all of the pieces would retail for! Part of the reason I love opshopping, you never know what you will find but it's sure to be a bargain!

What I wore:

Necklace: thrifted red flat bead necklace
Tank: thrifted Target mixed print colourful printed tank
Skirtthrifted Tree of Life ochre maxi skirt
Shoesthrifted Adidas Superstar sneakers
Bracelets: the usual
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff 2012 sky grey mini MAC bag

Why I wore it:

Like the first outfit, everything here was previously owned before it ended up in my wardrobe! The Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag was an ebay find that I fell in love with and very strongly hinted to hubby that I wanted for Mother's Day. Although it wasn't quite as described I still love it and I like how it works with the deep orange of the maxi skirt.

This Target mixed print tank was a lucky $1 opshop find, and like the blue necklace above the red statement necklace was a $2 buy too. The ochre maxi skirt was an incredibly lucky find and just $4. I'd wandered into a little local opshop I don't always have great success in and managed to find 2 maxi skirts at just $4 each, this being one of them. I adore it and I'm so glad I stumbled on it! The thrifted Adidas Superstar I wore above too.

I like wearing this orange skirt with a lot of blues and stripes and other neutrals, so it was good to try somethign a little different and wear this brightly coloured thrifted tank with it. Nice and colourful for a busy morning with a stop at the post office and then some time at the playground with the boys during the school holidays, before working from home and then sports in the evening.

Last worn: printed tank, red statement necklace, ochre maxi skirt, Adidas Superstar sneakers (above), Rebecca Minkoff sky grey mini MAC.

Other ways to wearprinted tank and maxi skirt, ochre maxi skirt and band tee, Adidas Superstar sneakers and floral dress, Rebecca Minkoff sky grey mini MAC and yellow.

Blue Dresses and Duster Kimonos With Tote Bag | Weekday Wear Link Up

While it's still pretty warm during the days in Brisbane right now, as it's the second month of autumn it is cooling off a little. The colder mornings and evenings inspired me to layer up these two blue dresses slightly with some floral dusters, accessorised with Converse and my Rebecca Minkoff black unlined tote bag.

What I wore:

chambray dress with converse chucks, black rebecca minkoff tote bag | awayfromblue

Rebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware with star bag charm and floral duster | awayfromtheblue

Jacket
: Jeanswest Melanie floral kimono
Necklace: personalised gold children's names charm necklace
Dress: Jeanswest Rachel Lyocell chambray dress
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in white
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware

Why I wore it:

This was an interesting day! It was the school holidays but I had to work, so my mum and sister had a fun day out planned for the boys. I ended up driving down to the coast and working from home at my parent's place while they had some adventures elsewhere. It was nice to work from a different environment for a day as well. So many of my colleagues have come down with Covid that we have not been able to successfully organise a day for us all to catch up in the office, even though the office is open. About half my team are in another state so even going into the office we still won't all be face to face.

Felt that this chambray dress was overdue another wear and with a little bit of driving the Converse were a practical choice. I layered this dress up with a duster kimono last time I wore it too, and I loved this tropical floral print one with it this time. Even if I took it off when it was warmer in the middle of the day.

The big tote bag was of course an essential for taking everything I needed for work over to my parent's house for the day, including my laptop.

What I wore:

green floral duster and navy tiered dress converse and black tote bag | awayfromblue

green floral duster, Rebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware | awayfromtheblue

Jacket
: Jeanswest Delilah long line kimono in green floral
Necklace: Jeanswest Taryn turquoise tassel bead necklace
Dress: Kmart short sleeve tiered knit dress in indigo ink with pockets
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bracelets: the usual
BagRebecca Minkoff medium unlined tote in black with shellac studded dome hardware

Why I wore it:

I like blue and green together so I was eager to try this green floral duster with the navy tiered dress. I wasn't sure when I put it on if the proportions worked and considered trying a shorter kimono instead, but when I added the long tassel necklace to this I found I loved the long relaxed lines of it! Felt super comfortable in this all day.

While the kids spent some time with their grandparents I was working from home again, and had an appointment that morning and a quick errand after work. I wore the Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag again as it is a great size for including a paperback book to read while in a waiting room!

Last worn: green floral duster, turquoise tassel necklace, navy tiered dress, black Converse, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag (above).

Other ways to weargreen floral duster and Bermuda shorts, navy tiered dress and orange bag, black Converse and jeans, Rebecca Minkoff unlined tote bag and striped dress.

Perfect for pregnancyConverse in second trimester.

How You Can Wear It:

Floral dusters are great outfit layers in autumn before it gets too cold, and look so good over dresses.
