Frocktober: Work and Weekend: Blue Printed Dresses and Rebecca Minkoff Bags

Although Frocktober may be over, I'm only at the halfway mark for sharing my Frocktober fundraising outfits! Dresses 15 and 16 were both blue. I was starting to get a bit fed up with dresses at the halfway mark, so picked some blue dresses to wear to give me a bit of a boost. It's my favourite colour and it would be easy for me to wear it all the time!

Any minor wardrobe resentment I have during my #31Days31DifferentDresses challenge is nothing compared to what ovarian cancer sufferers have to face every day. I'm wearing a different dress every day to raise funds for Ovarian cancer Research Foundation, and every donation helps. Thank you to everyone who has supported me!

What I wore:

Away From Blue | Second Trimester Office Wear printed faux wrap dress grey bag

Away From Blue | Second Trimester baby bump Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey
Necklace: Chanel necklace
Dress: Target Dannii Minogue Petites printed wrap dress
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs studded mouse flats in grey
Bracelets: the usual plus Roie Designs labradorite bracelets
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

I'd set this dress aside earlier in the challenge as a work dress (trying to make sure I had enough office appropriate dresses to see me through Frocktober!) and figured I'd better wear it now before the bump gets much bigger! It was definitely a squeeze. Will be packing this dress away for after baby arrives, won't be able to wear it again in pregnancy.

I didn't feel this looked great at all. Trying to fit a second trimester baby bump into a regular non maternity dress doesn't always work well, especially for one as form fitting as this. But it got a bunch of compliments in the office and it was the most liked instagram pic so far for my Frocktober challenge, so maybe I'm just missing something!

Last worn: geometric print faux wrap dress, studded mouse flats, Rebecca Minkoff MAM.

Other ways to weargeometric print dress layered up for winter, studded mouse flats and skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff MAM and a maxi skirt.

Why I wore it:

After not feeling happy or confident with my dress the day before, I picked a recent favourite to wear the next day to cheer myself up. I bought this dress just 6 months ago, and this is its 5th wear. Unfortunately, it's also its last wear.

I was feeling a bit restricted in it (due to the baby belly!) and kept tugging at it through the day, debating if I should add this to the office frock swap. I'd decided to keep it (button downs are great for breastfeeding), when I got home later that afternoon and realised it had torn. Wearing a baby bag, a toddler on your hip and then tugging the dress that was riding up back down means at some point during the day it had ripped irreparably at the seams.
I'm sad to see it go after so little wear, I really don't feel I got my money's worth. But on the plus side, it was only a small tear, and I didn't end up having a complete wardrobe malfunction and flashing my undies to anyone!

  1. Just look at you, Mica! Looking so cute in the first dress as a mommy to be. This dress is really flattering, so beautiful with grey accessoiries! I also loved and still do button downs, those are for sure really convenient after the pregnancy. So sad this one didn't work out for you. However I'm loving its polka dot print on you, Mica! Happy Sunday!!

  5. I think that first dress looks great on you. Fun pattern! I like seeing all the ways you have worn the polka dot. You do so well at mixing regular pieces in your maternity wear.

    1. It's easy to wear a lot of regular pieces while the bump is small :) It gets much more challenging in the third trimester, haha!

  6. The first dress I think looked so cute! It's fun to really show the bump especially when it looks like a baby bump! Such a bummer about that polka dot dress. It's really cute and looks like you styled it so many ways!

  12. Hi Mica,

The blue dress on your first outfit compliments your complexion well, and yeah.. Same problem as I have when I was pregnant when it comes to choosing what to wear. :)

  14. too bad about that polka dots dress leaving your wardrobe due to tear and all that, but you should be able to find a similar one. Internet shopping can sometimes make our lives easier.

I like both of these dresses (how cute is your baby bump!?! totally adorable)...and I think it is fantastic you are supporting the fight against overian cancer this way.

  17. Is the tear something that can easily be repaired? It looks so great on you and if you like it, it might be worth it to get it fixed! I would have never known that first dress wasn't maternity! With the empire waist and what looks to be a stretchy material, you could have fooled me!

    1. Sadly, no! It's torn right at the seams and frayed the fabric, no way to stitch it together again.

  18. Shame about the wardrobe malfunction, it was a cute dress! I also like the geometric number. I thought of you today when I was in Jeanswest (as you no doubt know, it's 40% off for members today!) and EVERYTHING was blue blue blue!!! My friend Stacie got some of their maternity stuff and was happy with it!

    1. haha yes! They do so many blue things, it's probably part of the reason why it's my favourite store, I love blue everything! :D The summer collection is amazing, I just did a post on it!

  19. Such a shame about the shirt dress. I really like it. Admittedly so, I can see it not being ideal as maternity wear. Would have been nice afterwards tho. And it was so cute together with the striped back. And yeah, I've been wearing my Ikwetta sandals all the time in summer as well.

The first look is cute. There's something indefinitely beautiful and adorble about baby bumps & mums to be. I wouldn't have thought it being too tight, but obviously I don't feel the dress. The best thing are the cat shoes tho, sorry ;-)

    Have a great week!

  20. Oh, both of these dresses are beautiful! And you look GORGEOUS with your baby bump. :)

And thank-you for participating in Frocktober. I am an ovarian cancer survivor, and it is such an encouragement to see others bringing awareness to this disease. You are awesome!

  23. Well my favorite color is also blue! (; You are totally right, literally the easiest color to wear, ever!

So sorry to hear about your wardrobe malfunction. Girl, we've all been there done that. haha. I recall a time I was showing off in college in front of a boy only to have my jeans rip right at the butt. Prime reason you should never show off. We never spoke again.

I can't believe you are in your second trimester. That's crazy. haha. Look at Mr. T back there toddling around. (: Have a wonderful week Mica!
