Lazy SAHM Dressing: Printed Pants ~ Same Outfit, Different Prints

Two extremely similar outfits. I felt I hadn't worn my printed jeans in a while, they were overdue a wear. Unlike some of the other posts I've shared with similar outfit formulas, I wore these one day after the other, and I didn't even notice that I'd pretty much worn the same thing until I went to upload the pictures!

So a very unimaginative set of outfits - printed jeans with a jumper and the same jacket, scarf and boots! At least the bags were different I guess? Some days you just want to go with an easy option, and accessories that work with anything you wear are a good choice.

What I wore:

Sass and Bide Printed skinny jeans tan ankle boots skull scarf red jumper leather jacket

Rebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe with printed jeans
SunniesRayban new Wayfarers
JacketJeanswest black leather moto jacket
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
Jumper: Chicabooti red fine knit jumper (with Cotton On red singlet underneath)
JeansSass and Bide 'The Archetype' feather print zippora skinnies
ShoesAsos airtime leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

I liked the colours in this outfit, but it was a pain to wear in practice. Definitely an outfit fail. Luckily I didn't have to wear it long - a checkup for baby and then stopping by the shops on the way home to pickup lunch.

These jeans are one of the pairs I bought off ebay post-baby to celebrate fitting back into 'regular' jeans again. They are a little larger than I need right now so they were annoying. Plus while the zipper detail on the hems is awesome to look at, it's not so great when it's rubbing against the top of my ankle boots. It's turned me off these jeans so much they are leaving my wardrobe! They would always need to be belted if I kept them anyway, not too much of a loss.

What I wore:

Pink Leopard Print Jeans with ombre grey knit and tan accessories

ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
JumperJeanswest 'Serena' ombre knit
Jeans: Portmans pink leopard print skinny jeans
ShoesAsos airtime leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

Unlike the (extremely similar) outfit above, I much preferred these jeans with the ankle boots. I think cuffing them looks better and it definitely feels better to wear. Did result in some cold ankles early in the morning though!

Just a simple outfit for a morning out with DH and baby T running errands and getting lunch. I did wonder if the leopard print and the ombre would be too much together at first, but I'm glad I tried it anyway as I think it looks good.

Corporate Style: Printed Dresses and Winter Layering

I wore these two dresses from my June buys together a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to get around to wearing them a second time. I try wear everything I buy twice in a month after buying it, so that when I'm deciding what to keep  I'm keeping things I will actually wear and that I won't just leave unworn in my wardrobe. This time around, as it was a little colder, I layered up the dresses more.

What I wore:

Printed silk shift dress worn as top tucked into pants trench ankle boots pashmina

Marc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown with burgundy pants
Jacket: Barkins beige trench coat
ScarfNali feather print pashmina scarf
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace
DressJeanswest Sadie silk printed shift dress
PantsJeanswest 'Fiona' skinny leg pant in shiraz
ShoesAsos airtime leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagMarc By Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran bag with gold hardware in carob brown

Why I wore it:

This outfit was a hit on instagram, and in my bedroom mirror the night before when I was trying to think of something to wear to work. I like wearing dresses as tops, I've done it before a few times, and this seemed like such a good combination with the colours of the dress and the pants. Made it really cosy too!

The only downside to this outfit was that silk wrinkles, a lot. And with all the sitting down and getting up and re-arranging the dress...it never stayed tucked in perfectly. I ended up keeping the pashmina on at work to try hide most of the creases as by the end of the day I looked quite rumpled! I do want to try wearing this dress as a top again, but maybe with a pencil skirt layered over it so that I don't have to try and tuck it in perfectly each time.

Since it's the second time I've worn this dress, my purchase review:
I am so glad I bought this. It's a beautiful piece, although I am restricted a little with how I wear it and it will be work-only for a while as silk isn't the best material for a day at home with baby! This was an impulse buy, I certainly didn't need another dress, but I do like being able to add some different fabrics to my wardrobe and I have written many times about my love for printed dresses. It's a winner.

Last worn: camel trench coat, feather print pashmina, silk shift dress, burgundy skinny pants, tan ankle boots, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag.

Other ways to wearcamel trench coat with a printed dress, pashmina with a polka dot dress, silk shift dress and tights, burgundy and orange, ankle boots with a maxi skirt, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag with a maxi skirt.

More printed dresses for the office, under $50:

What I wore:

Target Danni Minogue Petites printed wrap dress with blue layered tee office wear

JORD fieldcrest wood watch Balenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet
Dress: Target Dannii Minogue Petites printed wrap dress
Tee: Valleygirl blue 3/4 sleeve tee
ShoesMarc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual plus JORD black Fieldcrest wood watch (C/O)
BagBalenciaga RH classic city in 2010 sorbet

Why I wore it:

Last time I wore this dress, I spoke about how happy I was with the fit, but it was all hidden under the winter layers! I braved the cold without the scarf and trench to take a clearer picture, and to show off the layering tee I added. I didn't need the tee for modesty, I think it's quite a high neckline even though it's a wrap dress. I just thought the colours would go well together and it helped keep me that little bit warmer in the office.

As it's also the second time I've worn this, another purchase review:
I really like this dress! I'm glad I bought it (although I can't say I was pleased coming across it reduced even further recently!). I don't have many petite items, mainly Jeanswest and Asos, so it's nice to find another petite brand which does great work wear. I wish I had waited a little longer to buy it until after the final reductions, but I know I wouldn't have wanted to miss out on it.

Last worn: blue layering tee, geometric print faux wrap dress, Marc by Marc Jacobs flats, Balenciaga sorbet city bag.

Other ways to wearblue layering tee on it's own, printed dress with turquoise scarf, two tone flats with a maxi dressBalenciaga city bag and a baby bump.

#NoBuyJuly15 Results. Plaid Shirts, Cardigans and Skinny Jeans: SAHM Style

First up, my July purchases! I decided to set myself a #noBuyJuly15 challenge after buying a lot in June. The rules were simple - no unnecessary spending, limited only to essential things like food.

Beth from Almost Posh and I were even featured in the Sydney Morning Herald talking about some of our tips to curb impulse spending. Beth went on TV too! We did both end up buying things though...Perhaps I'll have better luck with #noSpenderSeptember!

I decided to just 'take a look' at the target sale, and then just 'try a few things on' and then just bought this $10 shirt. Not as bad as it could have been, I took 6 things into the change room, but definitely shows me that avoiding sales is the best way for me to curb unnecessary spending. Sale shopping is wonderful, and the main way I shop, but if you aren't shopping for something in particular you will walk out with a bargain you didn't plan to buy.

Now, what I've been wearing. Some recent outfits following a simple outfit formula: cardigan, skinny jeans and a plaid shirt.

One of the perks of having a stylish sister is getting to share her wardrobe! Even though we no longer live together, when we have wardrobe clearouts we always give each other the first chance to grab things. I was lucky enough to get two plaid shirts from my sisters rather large collection. I had no plaid shirts in my wardrobe, while she had so many she was getting rid of that I lost count!

What I wore:

Purple cardigan black skinny jeans tan skull scarf ankle boots plaid shirt baby bag
JacketJeanswest Dana drape knit cardi in boysenberry
ScarfAlexander McQueen modal and cashmere skull scarf
Shirt: Jay Jays metallic plaid shirt
JeansJeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black
Shoes:  Asos airtime leather Chelsea boots in tan
BagMarc by Marc Jacobs pretty nylon Eliz-A-Baby bag

Why I wore it:

This was a tiring day! I was in a bit of a rush in the morning so instead of trying to figure out which bag would work, I just threw my things in the baby bag, which was overflowing more than usual as I had thrown in some extra things to keep baby T amused. It can be taxing trying to keep a wriggly toddler happy, quiet and amused on your lap in a waiting room, so I overstuffed the bag with every toy I could cram into it that morning.

Since getting the bag hook for the stroller I've been enjoying being able to carry my own bag and have one or both bags on the stroller if needed, but some days you just need the simplicity of one bag for everything. I'm so glad we bought a large baby bag, my wallet, phone and keys fit in nicely.

Last wornpurple cardigan, taupe skull scarf, black skinny jeans, ankle boots, Marc by Marc Jacobs Eliz-a-Baby bag. First time I've worn the shirt.

Other ways to wearpurple cardigan belted, skull scarf with stripes and metallic jeans, skinny jeans and an ombre knit, ankle boots and a maxi skirt.

More plaid shirts:

What I wore:

Black belted maxi cardigan purple plaid shirt skinny jeans converse RM mini MAC

Jacket: Cotton On black knit wrap cardigan
NecklaceTai gold alphabet necklace
Shirt: See by Chloe lavender plaid cotton shirt
JeansJeanswest Super Skinny Jeans in Mid Indigo
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC (on sale here!)

Why I wore it:

Another plaid shirt, and another cosy cardigan. This shirt has a bit of a history. I bought it online as a final sale from the Outnet a few years ago. I thought I'd read the size chart correctly, but it just didn't fit quite right. My sister was happy to take it off my hands and she wore it for a few years. Now as she was going to get rid of it, I was happy to take it back again! I don't mind the slightly oversized relaxed fit, it was comfortable for a morning at playgroup with baby.

This poor cardigan, it's second wearing this year after rediscovering it in my wardrobe, and the second time it didn't make it through a full day before baby 'added' to it and it's had to go in the wash!

No scarf with this as I couldn't figure out what one would go best, and as it's been warming up a little I didn't miss it too much.

Last worn: long black cardigan, skinny jeans, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff metallic mini MAC. First time I've worn the shirt.

Other ways to wear: long cardigan with flared jeans, skinny jeans in summer, Converse and a maxi skirt, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC and a maxi dress.
