It's easy enough to do in winter here in Queensland, as we don't have snow to contend with. A few extra layers, some ankle boots and maxi skirts are good to go. If it gets even colder where you live, you can always layer leggings or tights underneath ;)
Since I'm collaborating with Shopbop, (thank you for all your kind words on my last post about it) I thought I'd show you two recent winter maxi skirt outfits I've worn as it started warming up a little more here, and some of the maxi skirts available to purchase at Shopbop.
What I wore:
Scarf: Alexander McQueen magenta skull scarf in roses print
Tee: Glassons plain black long sleeve teeSkirt: Izabel London Aztec print maxi skirt (C/O, shop similar skirts at Shopbop)
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
Bag: Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene 30 speedy bandouliere
Why I wore it:
This layering tee was another one of those pieces I'd been looking at in my wardrobe for a while and figured I'd better get around to wearing before winter passes us by! With just a few weeks left, I'm feeling that I haven't given all my winter pieces enough wear before I have to pack them away again.
The plain black tee and the dark skirt seemed a little dull for a day out shopping with family while hubby was on baby duty, so I added the scarf for some colour.
Last worn: purple skull scarf, black long sleeve tee, Aztec print maxi skirt, black ankle boots, Louis Vuitton Speedy Bandouliere bag.
Other ways to wear: skull scarf in summer, black tee and a printed skirt, printed maxi skirt in a neutral outfit, ankle boots in the office, Speedy Bandouliere and skinny jeans.

What I wore:
Jacket: Jeanswest Peggie kimono in purple mulberry marle
Scarf: Alexander McQueen skull scarf in light blueTee: Spectrum basic v-neck tee in grey marl
Skirt: Target black and white striped maxi skirt (Shop similar maxi skirts here)
Shoes: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bag: Balenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete
Why I wore it:
It's not the first time I've worn this tee and skirt together, although it was a bit warmer last time I did so. Layered it up slightly with the cardigan and scarf for a morning at playgroup.
It's not surprising I'd repeat combinations with this skirt. I like pairing it with grey tees, and I've worn it over 30 times in the year and a half since I bought it. Definitely a must-have in my wardrobe!
Last worn: blue Alexander McQueen skull scarf, purple kimono cardigan, grey tee, Target stripe maxi skirt, Converse, Balenciaga tempete day bag.
Other ways to wear: skull scarf and a striped dress, cardigan and skinny jeans, grey tee in the office, maxi skirt in the third trimester, Converse and skinny jeans, Balenciaga day bag and denim shorts.

I firmly believe short gals can wear maxi anythings! I love maxi skirts, they're comfortable and stylish plus they can make you look leaner too. Knee length skirts however I feel like are a short girls worst enemy. I have no idea how some girls manage to pull them off, even the ones shorter than me!

I hear you on the midi skirts! I can't pull them off, even with heels I don't feel I'm doing them justice!
DeleteMica you are the queen of maxi skirts and dresses! I swear you can come up with so many ways of wearing the same one! I'm truely impressed with your creativity!!
ReplyDeletePart of the secret is that they are just so easy to wear, haha!
DeleteDear Mica! I wish I could play with layers too but it's still too hot over here... :) I have long skirts too but kinda afraid to wear them since I'm petite as well. Loving your first styling and how you layered the second one. Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend, my dear! <3

You could easily wear your long skirts! :)
DeleteI keep waiting for it to warm up here, I'd happily wear less layers!
Petite ladies can't wear maxi skirt doesn't apply to you, Mica; makes you look elegant 'lady like chic' suits ya!
ReplyDeleteLove the print of that first skirt!! :D I still don't wear maxi styles just because I think they make me look weird, but you always style them so well!

I bet you would look great in them! Everyone has their own likes and dislikes though I guess :) For me, I don't like midi skirts! :)
DeleteYou totally make maxi skirts work with just about every occasion to dress. Maternity, work, and casual, you just look amazing. My problem with maxi type things is I always have to get them hemmed. Which isn't that big of a deal, but I'm a procrastinator and they usually sit in my closet a few months until I do so. (; I actually had a closet clean out of a few maxi dresses that are too large for me now.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite outfit of the two is number 1. I love the fitted tee with the maxi as it shows off how slim you are and flatters you. The purple scarf was a brilliant choice for adding a bit of color for this daddy duty day. (;
Have a fantastic weekend Mica!
Yes I often keep things a while before I eventually get it tailored! I'm terrible with just showing up at Rita's with a huge pile of things to shorten or take in, haha!
DeleteFunnily though I didn't have to take up either of these skirts! The top one has a fold over waist so it's adjustable which helps :)
You look amazing. I love maxi skirts but I can never seem to find one that looks right on me.
ReplyDeleteYou could always try ordering from places with free returns, or trying some on until you find the right ones? The striped Target one I'm wearing was a lucky find that's just been so perfect for me - I'm glad I tried it on, even though I expected it to be too long!
DeleteYou always style maxi skirts so well!

I agree Mica, and there's nothing wrong with repeating combinations that just work. I love maxi dresses and skirts, and think you wear them well here. <3 Enjoy the weekend. /Madison

Mica, though we're petite girls, I also love wearing maxi skirts and dress.
ReplyDeleteThere's no rule that we can't wear it too hihhi, just as long as we know how to take it with our own style. You're rocking it anyway!

They work so well year-round here! I've been trying to continue to wear as much of my wardrobe as possible this winter, rather than leaving all my summer clothes unworn and unloved!
DeleteMica, these skirts is super!! And I think a petite lady can wear them, they have special charm in this case! Love your outfits!
ReplyDeleteI'm short and petite but I got a maxi skirt earlier in the year and I love it! Maxi skirts are great :)

ReplyDeleteWhat lovely wintertime style! I sure wish we had no (or less) snow during our winters! Loving the McQueen scarves. I'm pledging to buy my first one in the near future. T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI think snow would be lovely, but at the same time I think we are very lucky not to have it. I hear it's hard to drive in!
DeleteYou always look great in maxi skirts, you deffo do break that rule in half and chuck it in the bin :)

haha I don't have any midi skirts! They only look okay on me with heels and I can't wear heels as much as I used to, so I got rid of all my midi lengths! I do have pencil skirts I wear to the office that are shorter than maxi skirts :)
DeleteI love your maxi skirt, Cool look!

haha yes, a great benefit to a maxi skirt! :) I have a few lightweight ones for summer, some silk ones that are really breezy and help keep me cool :)
DeleteThose skirts are so pretty! I love the pattern on the first one.

I love that Target skirt, I've got a tunic in the same print, and it's ace! I just can't pull off a maxi skirt no matter how hard I try, but you they seriously suit you! It totally felt like summer on the Gold Coast when I was there last weekend, enjoy that sunshine!
ReplyDeleteIt was quite a nice weekend! I wouldn't call it summery though haha. But I did take my jacket off when playing in the park with toddler :)
DeleteAbsolutely love the print of that first one and the color top you paired with it. Looks so good together Mica!
