I have to give a shout out my friend Kiki who said a lot of nice things about me on her blog. I'm so glad I could inspire her! Being a mum has a lot of changes associated with it, and the way we wear and view our wardrobe can change too, but it doesn't mean we can't enjoy what we wear. And if something no longer feels right (due to body/lifestyle/taste changes) it's good to let it go, or admit that an outfit combination just wasn't the best, and try again the next day. They are only clothes. I'm trying to remember this as I work towards reducing the size of my wardrobe.
Not every day has to be about trying something new or coming up with perfectly coordinated and accessorised outfits. Some days you just want to be comfortable and confident and you rely on simple 'outfit formulas' like the outfits below - blue tops over black! Both outfits showcasing a couple of my new April purchases. A blue knit and striped maxi skirt, and a blue shirt with black skinny jeans.
What I wore:
Jumper: thrifted Valleygirl blue knit jumper (new purchase)
Tank: Jeanswest 'Jenni' basic singlet in Hawaii blue (under knit)Skirt: Target black and white striped maxi skirt
Shoes: Converse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey
Why I wore it:
First wearing of this cute blue knit jumper from my April purchases. This was taken the day after the crazy weather - the sun came out! It actually ended up being a really sunny and warm day, so I was glad I had worn a tank under this. Although it's a light weight knit, it was good to take it off in the heat of the afternoon. The Fox in Flats style challenge for the day was 'up up up' and to try a new hairstyle, so I tied a twilly around my messy bun. You can't see it in these pics, but you can see it in the photo on instagram. We had to take Cooper to the vets for his regular vaccinations. Just a reminder if you have a dog and especially if you are in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area - get your dog vaccinated against parvovirus. There is a serious outbreak at the moment.
Cooper did really well at the vets, and as the vets have some cute kittens available for adoption, baby T got to play with some kittens for the first time. He loved them, it was so cute to see!
Last worn: blue tank, striped maxi skirt, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff grey MAM bag. First time I've worn the jumper as it is a new purchase.
Other ways to wear: cobalt blue knit with burgundy pants, blue tank and striped maxi skirt without the jumper, stripe maxi skirt in a monochrome outfit, Converse with spring dresses, grey MAM bag with cobalt blue and coral.
What I wore:
Shirt: Target mint stripe shirt
Jeans: Jeanswest prima denim super skinny jeans in absolute black (new purchase)
Shoes: black slim Havaianas thongs
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey
Why I wore it:
Wearing another of my April purchases! These Jeanswest prima denim black skinny jeans. I won't go on too much about how much I love these, as I already do that every time I wear the blue version. Jeanswest had a 40% off sale, so I had to get the black pair too. The 7/8th cropped style is the perfect length for petite ladies like me, no alterations needed! The style dare for the day was 'geek chic', achieved with the collared shirt and a selfie in my glasses! I need glasses for working on a computer screen.
This was a really practical and comfortable outfit for running errands all morning - trying to get things organised for baby T's upcoming first birthday.
Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, mint stripe shirt, Havaianas, grey MAM (above). First time I've worn the jeans as they are a recent purchase.
Other ways to wear: striped shirt hiding a second trimester baby bump in the office, black skinny jeans with a printed top, Rebecca Minkoff grey MAM with a neutral third trimester maxi skirt outfit.

I'm definitely checking out some of these sales - I don't know if I actually need anything though! haha I just recently downsized my wardrobe and I want things to stay basic - plus only keep what I wear.
ReplyDeletePS: I really like the target top you have on!

haha sales are too good for buying bargains...but not always things you need ;) I'm letting the sales pass by this time too :)
DeleteI love denim pieces and your top is just what I really like. I've been eyeing for denim top that will suit my body frame with the correct length but I still haven't found one. I want to try this one for myself because the fabric used looks really comfy and soft :)
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!

Thanks! I know what you mean, I'm always on the look out for a soft chambray shirt! This isn't denim though, just pinstripe cotton :) So soft!
DeleteLove the look of the blue knit with the striped maxi skirt, it looks both feminine and effortless! The shoes adds a sporty chic vibe to the outfit too, awesome!

ReplyDeleteSo many sales!!! Must resist!! Been doing good not shopping this month!
ReplyDeleteThat jumper in the first outfit looks sooo soft and comy! :D

I know I am trying hard to resist too! :D
Deleteomg it's 12am in only 10 minutes...do you think I could make it? LOL I've already done some damage at Kookai and Forever New so I think it's enough. I'm really loving your second outfit, you look so radiant and fresh in it! :)
ReplyDeleteMetallic Paws
haha I think two sales is a good hit rate! :)
DeleteI am glad you got Cooper vaccinated. Sick dogs can be such a heartbreaking time! I can never pull off a horizontal striped skirt without looking stumpy...sigh..one of the few things I will always wish I could. And the sales are driving me crazy especially since I am so limited to what I can buy..may be that IS a good thing..LOL!
ReplyDeletexx
I was pretty slowed with my spending in pregnancy too! I made up for it with my spending on baby clothes and baby things hehe!
DeleteYou look amazing in these outfits. I love the striped maxi skirt you are wearing. I am going to check out Nordstrom's sale now!
ReplyDeleteHope you find something nice in the sales! :)
DeleteThese are both such cute outfits! I especially like that striped maxi skirt. Lovely photos!

I am loving this first look, perfect for the weather here right now kinda hot but still ok enough to go out with longer shirt. The second look looks very comfy :)

That second one is definitely I would wear too! Really fresh and effortless look, Mica! I really love that blue sweater of your first pic! I've wore almost a similar one on the blog lately! Love how you styled it with a striped dress, dear! All in love, well done once again! Baby T's first birthday? Awww, how exciting!!!
DeleteJOURNAL OF STYLE / BLOGLOVIN
Yes I can't believe how quickly the year has flown! He will be one soon!
DeleteI have to try maxi skirt with a pair of Chucks! You are rocking this look, Mica!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I wore it a lot last winter, it's nice and comfy :)
DeleteSuch cute looks. I really like those black jeans on you! I'm trying to avoid the sales for now, but we'll see how long that lasts! ;)
ReplyDeleteFizz and Frosting
Good luck avoiding the sales! I'm trying to be good this month too :)
DeleteAdore the blue knit and stripped Maxi!! You always make it look effortless and so natural!!! Hope you've been having a great day!!
ReplyDeletelivingonandreanine.blogspot.com
The second look is so me! I just love throwing on a shirt and a pair of leggings, comfy but still fashionable :)
ReplyDeleteRedLip&Love
Thanks - they are actually skinny jeans, not leggings :)
DeleteThat blue looks so good with that striped skirt. Love that button down with those pants and flip flops. LOVE that look Mica! You do a great job with Cooper and the baby! I stayed at the vet when I had two dogs. Shots are so important.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.averysweetblog.com/
They are, it's scary seeing how bad the outbreak is, we are making sure Cooper is always up with his vaccinations. Even if it makes him crabby for the rest of the day, ha! Worth it in the long run :)
DeleteOh, you look adorable! I really, really like the maxi skirt, the sunnies and the bag! Also, thanks for the useful information! (:
ReplyDeletehttp://alemint.blogspot.com/
You are so sweet! It was so hard to accept that some things just dont work on my new body and I have to say I owe a lot of my new found, positive thinking to you. (: Thanks girl!
ReplyDeleteBlack skinnies are a serious staple in my wardrobe. My favorite pair are starting to have seen better days though and it's time to look for new ones. I love that where I work I can get away with colored skinny jeans as dress trousers. Don't get me wrong, I like dress trousers, but with my small legs, I have to alter and hem every last one. Annoying.
Hm perhaps Baby T will be begging for a kitten soon? (; I'm such a sucker for kitties! Glad Cooper was vaccinated! Three of my brother in laws dogs were almost killed last year due to parvo. ):
I'm glad I could help with the positive thinking! :) You look beautiful - and you can have some fun finding clothes that make you feel that too :)
DeleteI have done the coloured denim as pants for the office too, I can get away with it. Yey for business casual offices!
So sorry to hear about your brother in law's dogs, I'm glad they are okay! It's a terrible illness :(
Stunning blues!! your dog is so sweet ;)

I miss the good old Jeans West! They have some really awesome jeans that fit my body really well too! Ask your hair looks awesome up!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean - I'm so lucky to be able to walk in there and find a perfect pair of jeans, they are great for me too! :) You need to stock up when you're back ;)
Deletethat bag is so versatile!!! great color! :D

ReplyDeleteI must say you look so sweet in blue, the color and all shades of it are definitely yours. Besides, those snapshots are so lovely, you look so pretty as always;)
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous time!
Ooh, I love the bag you're carrying in both outfits, and the second outfit is so casual and relaxed! Hope you had a lovely week so far! :)

Both looks work, I gravitate toward the jumper outfit as there is something very chic about it.
ReplyDeleteI dont know how to explain it, looks like a stylist put it together, but you would not think so because it looks so easy.
Thanks Lorena! It's one of those colours the stylist said would look great on me - maybe that's why it 'reads' that way?
DeleteYou look great and I really love your dog :)
