Casual Autumn Outfits: Layering With Blue Printed Scarves

With the autumn weather starting to settle in it can get a little chilly in the mornings. I'm enjoying it, as I get to wear some of my bigger scarves that are just too warm to wear in spring/summer. Below are two casual stay at home mum style outfits with some big cosy printed scarves.

What I wore:

Marc By Marc Jacobs turquoise stargazer scarf purple tank stripe maxi skirt converse RM MAM

Rebecca Minkoff Minkette grey MAM bag with striped skirt blue purple tank and scarf
TankJeanswest Jenni basic singlet in Royal Lilac purple
Skirt: Target black and white striped maxi skirt
ShoesConverse Chuck Taylor All Star low in black
BagRebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey

Why I wore it:

I wasn't too sure what the weather would end up like on this day. I didn't have much to do after a busy morning, so just wanted to be comfortable. Maxi skirt and Converse is always a good idea, and I went with the tank and the scarf as I thought it might warm up later. It ended up being a really warm day so I didn't need the scarf when I was outside in the afternoon. Was good to have it in the morning and evening though.

First couple of times I wore this scarf I wore it with red, so I thought I'd try a different colour this time and went with purple. I really liked this colour combination too. I've been trying to break out of my little rut of pairing everything colourful with something grey, and being slightly more adventurous with colour.

Last worn: Marc By Marc Jacobs Stargazer scarfpurple tank, stripe maxi skirt, Converse, Rebecca Minkoff grey MAM.

Other ways to wear: blue printed scarf and red dresspurple tank and printed shorts, Converse and dress for spring, Rebecca Minkoff MAM with wrap dresses for the office, striped maxi skirt and grey tee.

What I wore:

SAHM Style: blue leopard print scarf white shirt Jeanswest prima denim skinny jeans SAHM Style
Scarf: Cotton On animal print scarf in blue
TopJeanswest Elise longline emroidered shirt coconut blue
JeansJeanswest Bindi skinny 7/8 jeans in indigo luxe

Why I wore it:

This was taken a couple of days after the outfit above, when Brisbane had a taste of the wild weather that had badly affected Sydney. I'd made sure to get organised and run all my errands earlier in the week so I had nothing to do but stay at home and snuggle with baby T. The scarf was needed as I was still recovering from my cold and had completely lost my voice. Poor baby had to make do with me reading and singing to him in a whisper!

The white shirt wouldn't normally be my first choice for a day at home with baby, but it was the first day of the Fox in Flats instagram style challenge for May, and the prompt for the day was to wear a white shirt (as it was white shirt day for OCRF). No bag or shoes as I literally stayed in the house all day listening to the rain with baby T and Cooper.

DH was one of the lucky ones, as he had been sent off-site for the day he didn't have to battle through the crazy traffic and flooded roads to get home and he got home a little earlier than usual. I know there were a lot of people in Brisbane who didn't make it home until really late that evening, and some not until the next day! We had a nice quiet evening at home, until we got a knock on the door from our neighbour as DH's car was about to be swept away!

The streets around us started flooding really quickly. I've never seen anything like it, not even in the big floods of 2011. Thankfully our house was on high enough ground that it became part of a little island, DH managed to move his car away from the flood waters, and by the next morning the water was gone. Seeing the water creeping up our driveway was a really scary sight though. We definitely weren't prepared for something that bad, we were lucky to all be together and have all our home comforts (and power and water) to just wait it out. Shows how important it is to get to know your neighbours too, if we hadn't had that knock on the door we wouldn't have known until it was too late, the flood waters would have submerged the car if it stayed where it was. Thankful for our neighbours looking out for us!

Last worn: blue leopard print scarf, embroidered shirt, prima denim skinny jeans.

Other ways to wear: print mixing with striped top and leopard print scarf, shirt, shorts and ankle boots, colourful prints and skinny jeans.

  10. Both these scarves are beautiful, but the Marc Jacobs one is a real eye catcher. Also like the top you are wearing in the second outfit, it looks so cozy.

The wild weather arrived here now, it's been very windy since yesterday afternoon ;-)

And wow! That's so scary!!! My house was flooded REALLY bad when I was renting a place by the beach with a friend. Luckily we knew it was going to happen (well, knew something was going to happen) so I was able to get most of my stuff out of the house before...but a lot of stuff was still ruined

  17. Floods terrify me, I'm so happy to hear you guys are ok! Awesome planning ahead getting everything done before the crazy weather happened. Luckily I live in a very hilly state. It floods a lot, but more so into valleys and deep deep ditches. For the most part, there's always somewhere else for water to go other than the roads.

You are fantastic at styling scarves. Spring has brought us a cool spell so they work for now, but scarves are one of my favorite things about fall! (:

    Have a lovely weekend Mica!

    1. It's good you live in a fairly flood free place! :) We know not to mess with the floods and flood waters here after the 2011 'inland tsunami', that was just horrible. I got quite anxious watching the waters rise up our driveway knowing we had nowhere to go as we were stranded. Thank goodness they didn't rise up to the door!

  18. That flooding sounds terrifying! It's been raining everyday here but luckily no flooding in our parts. You seriously have the prettiest scarves. I love both of these! I've been afraid to break out my maxi skirts again because I don't want them to get all nasty in puddles and wet streets. Yuck!

  23. Floods are so scary. I remember many a day in primary school we couldn't get to school because of water over big levels. I even remember being taken across flood waters in a ute and tractor to meet the school bus to get to school. The joys of growing up in the bush. I love your outfits. I especially love the 2nd one. Both scarves are lovely. I am a HUGE fan of wearing scarves. Jx

    1. Oh wow we are lucky we had nothing like that - it only hung around for a day then it all went away. There are like 8 storm water drains between us and the creek so I guess once they stopped being so backed up with rain they cleared it quickly :)

  36. I'm really sorry to hear about floods, I know how scary they can be. It is always great to have good neighbors and this situation confirms it. I hope the weather improves asap. I hope you get your voice back soon, I have the same problem...here it is very hot but due to the sudden climate change, I caught a bad cold.

Both outfit are really cute. I like the white shirt and skinny jeans combo...cool stay at home look:)

The first outfit I also really like. The maxi skirt is o well matched with converse and that top...and I'm just crazy about that scarf!!!!!

  38. Wao, that flood sounds super duper scary!! Panama also suffers of many floods during the rainy season because we don't always have the best water escape system in certain areas of the city and suburbs. I live on the top of a large hill, so it has never been a problem for my particular house, but I still feel super bad for all those that are constantly affected by it. I'm so glad you were safe and snuggled at home, looking super cute too in that leopard scarf!
