No more hiding the baby bump in the office! I honestly can't hide it any more, the baby belly has truly popped. Wore lots of my favourite pieces to help feel comfortable all day Monday, in anticipation of the attention directed at the bump. Some of the guys in the office were very sweet about it when they did ask - although some were too polite to even enquire!
In my career, I've seen good ways to share the pregnancy news, and bad ways. Ranging from telling everyone the day after the positive pregnancy test, bringing it up during meetings and ignoring the dress code from the very beginning....to quietly telling people who enquire when the bump starts to show and continuing to dress and act professionally throughout the pregnancy. I know the pregnant ladies I've worked with and admire, and those that I want to emulate.
I'm also aware that while I am over the moon excited about the tiny baby growing inside of me, and my family and friends are just as excited too, people aren't coming to work to hear about my pregnancy. Fertility struggles or infertility and loss are difficult and often lonely things to battle through, and I would hate to upset any of my colleagues (or anyone!) unintentionally by letting my excitement get out of hand. Not everyone wants to know what fruit baby is currently the same size as! Although I'm sure you understand if I can't help but gush a little on my blog....
Monday was just like every other day - no announcements, no taking over meetings - just me no longer hiding the bump and feeling a little uncomfortable with all the attention it generates. Little note: if you wouldn't normally rub someone's stomach, don't do it when there's a baby growing inside. It's still just as awkward as walking up and rubbing a stranger on the belly ;)
Last worn: grey tee, Asos blue lace pencil skirt, MbMJ camel flats, Marc by Marc Jacobs Fran bag.
Here's what I wore today:
Necklace: sterling silver monogram necklace C/O MyNameNecklace.com.au
Dress: Jeanswest floral wrap dress (with Cotton On grey singlet underneath)
Shoes: Marc by Marc Jacobs two tone flats in blush and black
Bracelets: the usual plus Hermes pink clic clac
Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Hillier Hobo in blush pink with silver hardware
This dress is another wardrobe find from one of my clear-out sessions. I had a bit of an obsession with wrap dresses a few years ago, used to wear them a lot more than I do now. Last wore this in 2011 it seems. It's so comfortable to wear and although I do now have to wear a singlet underneath for modesty, I still want to hold onto it. Keeping it in my wardrobe!
Thank you all for your entries in the giveaway - the winner 'sayanything' has been contacted via email.
Last worn: Cotton On grey singlet, MbMJ two tone flats, Marc Jacobs Hillier hobo bag. First time I've worn the dress on the blog although I've had it a while.
