Blue is my favourite colour, although I do try to wear others and not just wear it every day! A monochrome blue outfit is always one that makes me happy. You can keep it easy and simple with a dress. A plain basic is a good partner for a printed piece if you're wearing separates, and I'm showing you how to wear both.
What I wore:
Shoes: Rebecca Minkoff Georgina studded gladiator sandals in blush (on sale, 44% off with two sizes left! Also 30% off here in all sizes!)
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC in aquamarine with python embossed leather (on sale!)
Why I wore it:
When you're not sure what to wear, a printed dress is an easy instant outfit. It's been such a long time since I wore this dress! Last time I wore it I was actually pregnant with baby boy. It's not breastfeeding friendly so it's been an unsuitable choice before. It was so good to get it out again. No teething necklace needed as the tassels on the dress keep baby amused! It was perfect for a morning spent with my sister who was happy to keep baby amused while I had my drivers licence renewed, and then we went out for lunch. I even wore makeup to make the photo look better, but of course it's a drivers license photo so I still look terrible in it as you aren't allowed to smile!
Last worn: boho printed dress, Georgina studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC.
Other ways to wear: boho printed dress and ankle boots in spring, studded sandals and denim shorts, Rebecca Minkoff aqua mini MAC and a little black dress.
Perfect for pregnancy: boho print dress in second trimester.

What I wore:
Sunnies: Ray-Ban new Wayfarers
Necklace: Ruby Olive Softies Charlotte teething necklaceTee: Kmart blue marle tee
Shorts: Jeanswest 'Scarlette' printed shorts
Shoes: Balenciaga studded sandals in sorbet RGGH
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini in soft grey
Why I wore it:
Had a quiet day when I wore this - a few errands (like picking up a cake!) and then a special family birthday dinner in the evening. I've mentioned a few times when I've worn these shorts that during my wardrobe detox session the personal stylist suggested wearing them with similar colours to create a monochrome outfit. While I've worn it with contrasting colours too, I do like pairing these shorts with other blue pieces. Added the fun pink Balenciaga studded sandals and the colourful teething necklace for a little brightness with all of the blue. This tee is a 'wardrobe basic' piece that I bought in October. However, this is only it's third wear since then! 3 wears in 7 months really isn't great, especially since I've not been shopping for 5 of those months and have added nothing to my wardrobe. A marle tee is a good basic, but this was my second choice after they didn't have my size in a white tee, and maybe I should have held off for a white one. Will be keeping it in my wardrobe though, just not wearing it as much as I hoped. At $3 though it's not a bad cost per wear already!
Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, blue marle tee, printed shorts, Balenciaga studded sandals, Rebecca Minkoff MAB mini.
Other ways to wear: blue tee and chambray skirt, printed shorts and yellow tank, Balenciaga studded sandals and chambray dress, Rebecca Minkoff MAM and pink jeans.

How You Can Wear It:
Printed pieces make monochrome outfits more interesting as you aren't just wearing a block of one colour. It's a nice way to ease into a monochrome outfit. If you're unsure about the perfect pieces to pair together, a printed dress is an easy instant option that will always look good with any accessories.

Those shorts are really flattering on you with the similar colored top! I love them with your pink sandals. The family party sounds fun. Ugh, aren't drivers license pictures always the worst?! Your first dress is so cute too!

I need to not be afraid of my colors running together as much as I am. Your printed shorts and solid tee totally prove that it works. I'm constantly attempting to find a balance to my every day look and usually I can get that with the shoes. I'm hoping we start to see some actually Spring weather here soon so that way I can give some of my coveting jeans a little break during the work week. (; The mornings are way too cold for dresses right now.
ReplyDeleteLove your dress!

I love the dress and those shorts Mica. The prints on both are fabulous. I just took my mom to get her driver's license renewed. I had to chuckle, because we did the same thing...had lunch afterwards! I get to renew mine in February.

I think you need a relaxing lunch after, it can be quite stressful, ha!
DeleteThat first dress is really pretty! I agree that a printed dress is such an easy way to look instantly pulled together whether you happen to be pregnant or not ;p

I love that turquoise bag - what a glorious colour! Lovely outfits (you do look awesome in blue!).
ReplyDeleteI have to get my photo ID and passport renewed soon - every 10 years here - and my trick from last time is to wear heavy eyeliner and dark lipstick so that I don't look sick and wan. I also wore a scarf at my neck. We aren't allowed to smile either - I try to "smize" (smile with my eyes, not my mouth). It works!
Oooh I'll need to give that a go! I think it's every 5 years here, I'll have to check as I don't remember!
DeleteI love a great printed piece - that dress is absolutely gorgeous! I would totally wear it to work with a blazer! :]

I've always thought you wear blue beautifully and as I have said before it brings out your eye colour. Here we are transitioning from summer to rainy season, just a few rains and all the green areas seem to revive. I love it-
ReplyDeleteLoving the blue on you, very pretty color for spring
ReplyDeleteWhat cute outfits, Mica! I really love both bags, but I especially love the second one; I think I may get this one because I'm in need (more like want) of a grey purse and I love the shape and style of this one. Thanks for sharing and I hope you have a great rest of the week!

I need to start wearing prints more for Spring and summer. I notice I gravitate to more solid colours and my wardrobe is lacking a bit of dimension.

Jeanswest have such a distinct style, I could tell that top dress was from there before I even scrolled down! I feel like it wouldn't kill the licence photo place to have a small mirror in front of the camera so you can rest assured your face is okay before they snap. I'm okay with my current one so I'll be renewing it for the next 10 years, haha.
ReplyDeletehaha yes, that and at least half my wardrobe is from there!
DeleteGreat looks and I really love the first dress you are wearing and of course your beautiful bags :D Have a great weekend. Gemma x

I love that dress, what a pretty print! I have a lot of blue in my wardrobe too, it's a color I always gravitate towards, even though I wouldn't say it's my favorite color. Somehow I just keep buying it though!
ReplyDeleteWe all have that one color that we just can't get enough of. Blue definitely looks great one you! Loving the dress
