Here's what I wore to spend the day with my mum:
Scarf: Paris print silk scarf
Necklace: Nibbly Bits Abacus necklace in pop
Dress: French Connection Meadow jersey maxi dress in black
Shoes: Asos 'five star' leather sandals
Bag: Balenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete
I've been looking at this black maxi dress in my wardrobe thinking it needs another wear...so a trip down the coast with my mum seemed like a good day to wear it out. After noticing I don't make the most of the neutral dresses I have in my wardrobe, I've been trying to wear them more. I added the pretty scarf in my hair too for something a bit different, and as I was feeling a little 'meh' about my hair. Due for a trim again!
The teething necklace was a must-have. Baby T's been very cranky lately with teething! I loved how easy and simple this outfit was, but it looks like I put a bit of effort in and not like I've been dealing with a grizzly baby for the past few days. Maxi dresses are awesome.
Last worn: black and white scarf, black maxi dress, Asos leather sandals, Balenciaga tempete day bag.
Here's what I wore to run errands:
Sunglasses: Rayban new Wayfarers
Dress: Asos grey skater dress (on sale!)
Shoes: Acne pistol boots in "skin"
Bag: Chloe Marcie medium hobo bag in Nut (on sale!)
This is what I put together for my 'day without baby'. It was baby T's first day at day care! Like most mums, I've found it tricky trying to find a place I liked that also has space to take another baby. When a spot opened up at my ideal centre, I took it. It was available a little earlier than I needed as I'm not back at work yet, but it's meant I've been able to go back to work sooner than expected.
I tried to see the positive side and focus on all the things I'd be able to do while baby T was playing at day care, but I'll be honest, I felt a bit lost without him! I was really relaxed in our morning routine, not really wanting to drop him off too soon...and of course I went back earlier than planned in the afternoon to pick him up! He didn't mind though, after the orientation day we had he's really happy with the ladies at the centre, and enjoys playing with the other babies. I think I took the day harder than he did! I did enjoy not having to time my morning errands (groceries and post office) around baby's naps and feeds, but it felt so lonely being just Cooper and I in the afternoon. Used the quiet house to film a couple more videos for my youtube channel, which has been a little neglected lately.
Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, skater dress, Acne pistol boots, Chloe Marcie hobo bag.

I LOVE that skater dress for your day without baby! Such a pretty shape and I love that it looks double layered!

Both dresses look lovely on you! I really like the cut of the grey one - very flattering. Sounds like a nice time to yourself (and Cooper of course!). Are you looking forward to going back to work?
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about it! Trying to see the positive side to it though, there are some good things about it :)
DeleteOh I just adore that last look! That skirt is so nice. (Also love the doggy)

I love the second outfit, that's definitely something I'd wear too - grey rules!
ReplyDeleteLOVE both the outfits, but I am a bit partial towards the second since you are carrying my all time fav Chloe bag!!! I hear your dilemma on the day care situation, it is something we are starting to think about, because I would get a total of 12 weeks off when time comes and it is wayyy to less :(, but nothing much can be done about it. I can also imagine how hard it is to send a new born to day care, the sudden emptiness is pretty haunting.. but good thing is only for a few hours..
ReplyDeleteIt is a great bag!
DeleteI am very lucky to have so much maternity leave here in Australia, and so much flexibility about when I can return. Hopefully you can find something that works for you, your family and your baby! :)
Oh Mica! My heart aches for you. It was total torture when I had to return to work, and it's even still hard almost a year later. My best advice is to just keep really busy, listen to music if you can, and focus on tasks. I get sad, there are days I cry, but it pays the bills. But i'd totally be a stay at home mom if the opportunity ever presented itself. Just remember how much baby T loves you and now your evenings together will be that much more enjoyable. Have an excellent weekend! (:
ReplyDeleteThank you Kiki! It's so helpful getting advice from people who have been there before! I know it's going to be really hard :( I'm really very torn about it! On the plus side, they are desperate for me to come back as it's so busy so hopefully I'll get so involved with work the day will fly by!
DeleteLove the all grey look with the Acne booties. I have been considering investing in a good pair of booties. So far all of my booties are Sam Edelman ones. Not saying they are cheap or anything but they definitely are not in the same vicinity as Rag and Bone or the Acne. My problem is that I am really rough with my shoes so I have been worried if it is wise to spend the money or not. Anyway, I may just pull the trigger when Shopbop is doing their FF event in the future.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm already thinking I should invest in another pair! Matches fashion have them on sale sometimes, I think I'll try then or in a shopbop sale like you said! Maybe a black pair? I find these ones so comfortable and easy to wear.
DeleteI have to say the grey outfit is my favourite. And, how cute are you in the head scarf. xx <3

That black dress is beautiful and I love your second outfit Mica. That Chloe bag is pretty :) I think mom's definitely take it harder when leaving their children at daycare. It will get easier doll. I'm glad he like's it and you've chosen an awesome place for him. It will give you a chance to do things that you want or need to do.

Very true Kim! He loves it, he is always happy to see me, but quite content to just keep playing away until I walk over and pick him up for cuddles, haha. Such an independent little man!
DeleteLove both outfits so much! And I need to add ACNE boots into my shoe closet!
ReplyDeleteBoo, the ASOS dress is out of stock now! Super cute though. I had Lila in day care for a day a week for a few weeks before I returned to work and it felt weird to be gallivanting around without her after a year.
ReplyDeleteAh it's a shame it's sold out, it's a great dress!
DeleteIt is so strange not spending all my time with baby - I'm really gonna miss him when I go back to work. One day a week at daycare is tough enough!
I really love the scarf in your hair - I am a big fan! And the ASOS dress is great! Is it two pieces? Like, would it lift up for nursing? Also, so hard to send Baby T to daycare! But it's nice that you can ease into it before you have to go back to work? How long do you get to take off of work for maternity leave?
ReplyDeletethanks! The dress is just one piece, it's a good day without baby or 'popping out for a hour or two after a feed' dress, definitely not nursing-friendly.
DeleteIt has been good getting into daycare early to move up the date I start back at work and to get a bit of a practice run at it hehe. By law I'm entitled to a year of leave, with my current company I'm entitled to take up to two years.
Ahhhh, that Asos dress is so cute! I love how it looks on you, and the grey color is perfect for a chic, classy look. <3

DeleteThe grey ASOS dress is gorgeous! I think most new mums feel a bit lost the first time without their baby, you'll be okay as time goes! :)

DeleteI loovvveee that grey dress! And the Chloe bag is one of my all time favorites. You have so many amazing bags! That combo may be on of my favorites of yours. SO glad you found a place you like for the baby and that the first day went well.
