30 Ways To Wear: Dark Grey V-Neck Tee

Time for another 30 ways to wear post! Every month I pick something from my wardrobe I've worn 30 times or more and create a new post in this monthly series showing you some of the ways I've worn it. I hope to inspire you to think of more ways to rewear the pieces you own in your wardrobe, as I was inspired when I first heard of the 30 wears challenge in The True Cost documentary.

This month, it's this dark grey v-neck tee in charcoal. It was one of the pieces I first thought of back when I started this series, as I was sure I would have worn it 30 times, but I've only just managed to hit that figure this year, and that's with some pretty frequent rewearing recently. Still, if I had to pick, I'd say this is my favourite grey tee.

30 Ways To Wear: Dark Grey V-Neck Tee

Cost Per Wear

I bought this tee back in July 2013! Thanks to my order email from The Iconic I know it was a $30 tee reduced to $12 in the sale and then I had an extra discount voucher for my order so it worked out to just $9.48. At 30 wears to date that's 32 cents a wear. Pretty good cost per wear I think! Obviously, having this tee pre-kids and during my pregnancies and now after having my kids, it doesn't fit quite the same as it used to 7 years ago! However it is still super soft, stretchy and although it's maybe not quite as slouchy a fit as it was before I love how comfortable it is. I plan to wear this until it falls apart.

The other, lighter, grey tee I bought in the same order I've already done a 30 wears post on too. It was a good sale shop back then as I still have 3 of the 4 things I ordered and I've now hit 30 wears on 2 of them!

I think the reason it's taken me 7 years to reach 30 wears with this tee was a combination of not wanting baby spit up on my fave tee when the kids were younger, along with the habit I'm trying to stop of "saving" pieces in my wardrobe and feeling they are too good to wear on ordinary days. I've been really enjoying wearing this tee so much recently, in an effort to finally hit 30 wears with it and acknowledge its awesomeness in a post! So let's see the ways I've worn it!

Dark Grey Tee in Monochrome Outfits

5 monochrome outfit ideas with a dark grey tee | away from the blue blog

I find true monochrome outfits really tricky to do, as I can never resist adding a little pop of colour with an accessory! I do like wearing this grey tee with other shades of grey and black for a monochrome look - before I start adding colourful pieces on top!

Dark Grey Tee In Layered Winter Outfits

This darker grey tee layers so well in winter - it's a neutral shade that goes with any layers I might add on top without clashing, and darker colours seem so perfectly suited for cold days! As you can see in these pics it works with all the extra winter layers with jackets, scarves an cardigans well.

Dark Grey Tee In Outfits With Colourful Statement Pieces

Of course it's not just winter layers that this dark tee works with! If you have a dark tee it's a nice outfit base to pair with some other bright statement pieces, even in warmer weather. Like over a floral dress, with neon pink accessories, a yellow kimono, cobalt leather jacket or leopard print pants! This neutral tee is a nice grounding piece to add when you're wearing one or more bright statement pieces in your outfit.

Grey Tee With Red Pieces In An Outfit

There are a few colour pairings I keep coming back to with this grey tee so I wanted to call them out specifically. Grey and red is a fun combination, and as you can see you can add little touches of red with accessories or go all out with a red cardigan or maxi skirt. Even burgundy and deep red shades, like those skinny jeans, work well with a dark grey tee.

Grey Tee Outfits With Green

Green is a colour I've been trying to wear more lately and no matter the shade - olive or bright emerald green - I find it a little tricky to wear. Like any colour you're unsure how to wear, you can pair it with a plain grey tee! It just works!

Grey Tee and Skirt Outfits

This combination is another one I keep coming back to with this grey tee - pairing it with a printed skirt! Maxi skirts are obviously my favourite here, with 3 out of 4 outfits featuring it, but it works well with pencil skirts too and shorter length skirts like you've seen above.

Grey Tee and Baby Bump Outfits

I've been lucky enough to have this tee for both my pregnancies with my boys and I took full advantage of the comfortable stretchy material, wearing it right into the third trimester! It was a simple outfit for work with a pencil skirt, or as you saw above too without the bump, a nice easy casual outfit on a hot day with a maxi skirt. It's one of those non-maternity pieces that work so well in a pregnancy wardrobe!

30 Ways To Wear: Grey Skinny Jeans & Weekday Wear Link Up!

Another 30 ways to wear post for today's Weekday Wear Linkup! Each month I hunt through my blog archives to find things I've worn 30 times or more and put together these posts to give you some ideas and inspiration for how you can rewear similar pieces in your own wardrobe. There are so many ways you can remix and rewear!

30 Ways To Wear: Grey Skinny Jeans

30 ways to wear grey skinny jeans away from the blue outfit idea blogger

These jeans are overdue a post - I was hoping I'd hit 30 wears with them soon and was surprised I'd managed 34 wears of them already! They do go with so much. Like a classic blue skinny jean, I find they go with everything. With these in my wardrobe I'm finding I'm not missing stepping away from the blue jeans at all!

Cost Per Wear

Cost per wear is a tricky one to calculate on these - as they were a gift from a family member on a day out during my 6 months without shopping challenge. Based on the note when I first wore them that there was a 40% off sale on they would have been $59.99, reduced from $99.99 full price. I'm not completely sure though as I didn't buy them myself! At 34 wears so far that's $1.76 per wear. If I should even be calculating that on something I didn't buy, really it's $0 per wear for me!

These grey skinny jeans have the perfect amount of stretch so that they have constantly been the most comfortable jeans, even though I've had them 3 years. They fit so nicely but don't get baggy, and because they go with everything and are so comfortable they were one of the pairs I took with me on our Europe trip. It's easy to see why these 'Cecile' jeans sold out so quickly, and I'm a little upset that Jeanswest haven't created a similar pair of jeans since. They are so soft! Excited to share 30 of my favourite ways I've worn them.

Grey Skinny Jeans With Prints

A basic grey pair of jeans goes with everything really, as you'll see in the rest of these pics! The best thing about classic denim is a neutral grey is you can pair it with any print or colour. Printed tops, kimonos or scarves work well with plain jeans, and you can clearly see I especially love wearing stripes with these!

Grey Jeans In Monochrome Outfits

These are not all completely monochrome outfits as it's hard for me to resist adding a little colour here and there with accessories! I do like these mostly monochromatic outfits as it shows that other neutrals like black, grey and white work really well with grey jeans. You can add in a pop of colour with accessories as I like to do, or keep it simple and stay completely monochromatic.

Grey Skinny Jeans With Blue

As I said above, every colour looks so good with these jeans! So I wanted to call out some of my favourites, and blue is one of the best! No matter if it's a blue scarf or top or bag...these grey jeans work well with any shade of blue, from a little too a lot and more muted tones to bright cobalt. The brighter blues really pop!

Grey Jeans With Orange

Orange is a pretty statement colour to wear in any shade, although it's one I have been enjoying buying and wearing more of lately. With a bright orange piece in your outfit a neutral grey pair of skinny jeans is a good base to stop things feeling too bright or over the top, especially if you are just easing into the orange colour!

Red And Grey Skinny Jeans Outfits

4 red and grey skinny jeans outfits ideas ways to wear | awayfromtheblue

While red and black can seem a bit harsh sometimes, red and grey go so well together! When I wear these jeans in cooler weather I like adding in red layers for a pop of colour or warmth - something small like a red tee or shoes, or bigger and bolder with a red cardigan!

Yellow and Grey Skinny Jeans Outfits

Yellow and grey is another favourite combination of mine - as you can see I do really enjoy wearing my mustard cardigan and Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag with these grey skinny jeans! As with the other colours above you can keep it small with a single pop of yellow like a yellow top, or a bit brighter with two yellow pieces like a bag and cardigan combination.

Adding Colour to Grey Skinny Jeans With Layers And Accessories

Adding Colour to Grey Skinny Jeans With Layers And Accessories 4 outfit ideas | away from blue

As you've seen above these jeans really get worn a lot in the cooler weather when I can add extra layers. The neutral colour means they never clash with whatever I want to wear. It also means I feel confident adding even more colours into my outfits. Something small like a purple scarf, or bigger with a pink scarf and bag, magenta cardigan and purple accessories, or even a teal bag and scarf with a mustard cardigan. There is no colour combination I haven't liked with these jeans, they are such a staple! You really can wear them with anything.

Spring Shopping Haul: What I Bought & How I've Worn It! Kmart & Opshop Finds

Sharing a rather large spring shopping haul with you today! Apart from my big January spend in the post-Christmas sales I haven't been doing a lot of shopping this year (for obvious reasons). As well as a couple Kmart impulse buys, I got extremely lucky that my fave opshop was open on a different day in September as a once off and I was able to go browse.

When the opshop (thrift store) reopened after COVID restrictions lifted they changed their opening days and hours and are now only open for a few hours in the middle of the week, when I'm working, so I haven't visited this store since January! Being able to visit on a day off was wonderful. It did mean that I bought a LOT of things though.

While I did carefully consider each purchase and didn't buy everything I saw, I didn't manage to meet my goal of wearing everything I buy twice in the month I buy it as I shopped so late in the month. I'm giving myself another pass on not meeting my goal though, as I honestly don't know when the next time I'll be able to visit this opshop would be and I wanted to grab some deals! I just ran out of days in September to wear everything twice 😂

I share a little more about the prices and why I bought each piece in the video, as well as a try on session with everything.

What I Bought:

  • thrifted digital print no label kimono $1
  • thrifted Kmart black and cream stripe tee $1
  • thrifted Kmart white and navy long sleeve stripe tee dress $1
  • thrifted blue statement beaded necklace $2
  • thrifted gold and cream multi strand pearl necklace $2
  • thrifted gold and marble statement necklace $2 (not pictured or in video as I just bought it this week!)

How I've Worn It:

spring wardrobe updates what I bought kmart opshop maber tiered maxi dress dolman marigold top stripe dress | away from blue

As you can see I did hit my "wear twice in the month I buy it" goal with most of the pieces, except the white striped dress and the necklace I bought the last few days of September. I set myself this goal a few years ago after too many wardrobe clear outs where I would come across things I hadn't even worn. If I can think of two ways to wear something immediately it's got a good chance of staying in my wardrobe and being a versatile piece that will work for my lifestyle. Over time it's changed from wearing things twice in a month after buying them to wearing things twice in the month I buy it. It ensures I'm not buying things anticipating the weather or the things I'll be doing too far in advance. As we all know nothing goes according to plan, especially in 2020! Still haven't worn that blazer I bought for the office back in February that arrived just before Iso....

I'm pleased with what I got this month, great additions to my spring / summer wardrobe and all at very budget friendly prices that makes me happy.
