Colourful Tanks: Red, Kimono and Skinny Jeans | Blue and Striped Maxi Skirt

Two more casual outfits with some colourful tank tops. I have an embarrassingly high number of basic block colour tanks but as I mentioned before, I don't wear them nearly enough! I've been trying to wear them more before the Autumn weather takes hold and they get used for layering and hidden under knits.

What I wore:

Choies red vintage pattern kimono Jeanswest prima denim skinny jeans

Rebecca Minkoff coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe printed kimono
SunglassesRayban new Wayfarers
JacketChoies red vintage pattern kimono
NecklaceRoie Designs pearl and antique gold long necklace
Tank: Cotton On red singlet
JeansJeanswest Bindi skinny 7/8 jeans in indigo luxe
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagRebecca Minkoff striped coated canvas mini MAC in berry stripe

Why I wore it:

It's not the first time I've worn this printed kimono with a bright tank. The print would look nice with a striped top too, but I'm pretty happy wearing it with some plain block-colour tops. I had such a hard time looking up last time I wore this tank. I have a deep pink tank from Jeanswest, and this berry red tank from Cotton On. They are both really similar. I noticed it after I bought the Jeanswest one, when I got it home and went to put it in my wardrobe with the rest of my tanks. I probably should have returned it, but figured they were slightly different enough that I could keep them. Of course now when I add my little details under each picture of what I was wearing, I can never tell if it was the red tank or the deep pink one as they are so similar! This time it was definitely the red one, but I'm not convinced that this was the last time I wore it, I'm sure I've worn it again after that and just not tagged it correctly on the blog!

I thought the striped canvas mini MAC bag would look nice with the printed kimono, similar colours. I had been wanting to wear this bag again for a while, I seem to always pick my aquamarine mini MAC more often. I was hoping to take a video for my youtube channel with this bag after wearing it, as someone had requested one, but I ran out of time and daylight. Baby T's grandparents were over in the afternoon, but I didn't realise I should have taken advantage of the babysitting to shoot a video until after they left, ha!

Last worn: Ray-Ban Wayfarers, printed kimono, red tank, prima denim skinny jeans, Havaianas, striped canvas mini MAC.

Other ways to wear: red kimono with black and gold, ombre outfit with a red tank (and third trimester baby belly!) print mixing with skinny jeans, red striped mini MAC with navy shirt dress.

What I wore:

MEV Britney bubble nursing tank striped maxi skirt Balenciaga tempete day bag

Away From Blue Balenciaga tempete Day bag silver giant g21 hardware
Necklace: freshwater pearl strand necklace
TankMEV Britney bubble tank in mood indigo C/O Zibibo
SkirtAT by Atmos&Here Mars striped maxi skirt
Shoesblack slim Havaianas thongs
BagBalenciaga giant hardware Day bag in 2009 tempete

Why I wore it:

Long time since I last wore this tank. It's a nursing tank I got while I was pregnant, and I wore it until the baby bump got too big for it. Then it kinda got lost in my wardrobe. I set it aside one day to wear to one of my mother's group catch-ups, but didn't make it out that day and so it got pushed to the back of my wardrobe for 'next time'. It was uncovered (along with a few other tops) during my wardrobe detox with the personal stylist. I didn't give them nearly as much love as I thought I would in the early breastfeeding days! The combo of jumper/cardigan over a breastfeeding singlet worked quite well for me. And pretty much any top becomes suitable for breastfeeding when you have one of those singlets underneath.

I thought I'd wear this tank out again for a morning at playgroup with baby and then shopping and lunch in the afternoon. As the stylist said as we went through my wardrobe, you'd never know this was a nursing top unless it was pointed out. I wore it with my blue Balenciaga because I seem to be grabbing that bag a lot for playgroup recently!

Couldn't decide on a necklace to wear with this in the morning - in the end I went for this knotted stand of freshwater pearls which also hasn't been worn recently. Held up quite well when baby T tugged on it through the day too. Does anyone remember that trend a while back where everyone had long beaded necklaces and just tied a knot in them to add 'interest'? Or was that just me? I had so many at one point!

Last worn: breastfeeding tank, striped maxi skirt, Havaianas (above), Balenciaga tempete day bag.

Other ways to wear: navy tank with a striped pencil skirt, print mixing with a striped maxi skirt, Balenciaga day bag in summer.

  9. Totally had more than enough knotted necklaces back in the day. (; Though freshwater pearls are a classic. Can't go wrong there. How awesome is that stylist? I mean finding ways to work nursing tanks into your functioning wardrobe is genius! Plus I know how comfy some of those maternity tops can be. (; I actually kept one, knotted the bottom, and wear it as a night shirt.

Loving the kimono and how you paired it with a striped bag. Mixing prints is so in and it's great to work them into different seasons. (:

  12. I like contrast of the kimono print with the bag -
I see the kimono and want to wear mine but then when I get to it in the closet I dont know what to pair it with… I hate it when that happens!

  21. I love the kimono top - I will wear mine tomorrow!

I have an issue with tanks: they all jumble together into a big coloured mess. I have to remind myself that they aren't tops in their own right and need to be layered. I'd rather have an actual top than a tank.

    1. I guess with the heat here in Queensland tanks can be tops in their own right too, but you are correct they do work so well for layering! :)

  37. I've told you all about mine too hehehe! I have way too many white tanks, I feel like I should branch out to other hues. I have tried but I always end up sticking to a grey or black instead of white. Then again if I did venture out like that I wonder if I'd even wear it? Probably now ;o)

    1. hehe yep it's a common problem to have, tanks are such a good basic so we always buy them I think! :) OR that's my reason anyway, ha!

It might be good to try branch out but like you said if you're happy with what you've got you wouldn't get much wear out of something different.
