November Purchases

While I didn't buy a lot in October, I did do a lot of shopping in November!

November Purchases: What I bought, How I wore It. Budget fashion blogger | away from the blue

There are a couple reasons for buying so much this month:
  • Doing Christmas shopping meant more exposure to stores and more temptation to shop
  • I love spring/summer clothing and it makes up the bulk of my wardrobe as I find ways to wear it year-round. And there have been some really nice new season pieces.
  • I've been decluttering and downsizing my wardrobe So I'm starting to feel there are 'gaps'.
  • Jeanswest had a 40% off sale and I still had unspent gift cards that I had been setting aside for after my 6 months without shopping challenge at the start of the year.

The Jeanswest sale being the biggest reason if I'm honest, considering that's where I bought everything! I'm such a sucker for a sale! There's another 40% off sale on right now too!

What I bought:

How I Wore It:

I have a rule that whenever I buy something I have to wear it twice in the month I bought it. I couldn't do that with all of my October purchases, as one arrived over a month after I ordered it, and some had to be taken to the tailor first. I had better luck this month though, as you can see below. The only thing I haven't worn twice are the earrings as I'm saving them for Christmas.

The idea behind wearing things twice in the month I buy them is that I have to come up with two ways to wear it immediately before I buy so I know it will be useful in my wardrobe. I no longer have things new with tags sitting unworn for years and I have to really love it to want to wear it so frequently right away. I've slowed my shopping and gotten more use from the pieces I've bought since I've implemented this rule so I'm keeping on with it.

I'm feeling pretty wardrobe content for the moment! Not sure if I'll buy more in December or just get those final few Christmas presents I need to buy for people. The Iconic usually have their big boxing day sale so I'm sure to be tempted by that, especially if Rebecca Minkoff is included!

  6. 40% off sale along with being able to use gift cards sounds like a great incentive to shop especially since you didn't shop for over 6 months. Looks like you picked up some really cute and versatile pieces. I'm so envious that you're wearing shorts now since we just broke out our winter coats!

  10. These outfits are all pretty nice, I love how you pair up primary colours, with the yellow and blue items being my favourite. This seems pretty relevant to the weather in Australia and you look great! (although if I were to try out one of these in Wales right now I would surely freeze haha)

  19. That is such a smart idea to ask for gift cards and I should do the same. I spend way too much in November and I really have to go on a strict no-buy for a few months. My drawers are ridiculously overflowing with stuff to the point it's embarrassing.

ps: It's soooo good to hear and see you! You have such a lovely voice!

  24. Those tanks look SO useful. I love the colours, and they work really well with that you already have. I accidentally bought the Lookfantastic advent calendar in the cyber Monday sale... And I got 2 maxi skirts from Kmart that I'm pretending are long enough and I love them! The weather has been a bit weird and in-between for the last week so they've been just right.

  27. The wear twice rule is surely helpful to only buy things you really need or determine early on that they weren't needed.
So far I haven't purchased anything, but I am not as good as you with Christmas shopping, I am still missing the majority of items. Shop exposure and temptation will surely come in December.

  32. I've been spending waaaay too much lately, especially with those damn black friday sales. I need to pull back a little. My wardrobe has become fairly pressed for space again which is not a good sign. I love the idea of making yourself wear new purchases twice in the month. I need to do this myself. I have a habit of buying more "formal-ish" attire. Things more for nights out then during the day like heels etc. Only problem is I have nowhere to wear any of this to! Ahhhhh! I need help!

I definitely did most of my spendings this year in November as well, taking advantage of all the sales that's been happening :) I love that rule of wearing something twice within the first month, it's definitely easier to keep wearing something once you know what else it goes with in your closet!
