I stuck to my usual easy dress outfit formula for two recent work from home days, and added in some colourful cardigans and Alexander McQueen skull scarves. Even though it's winter, it's nice to wear a bit of colour.
What I wore:
Jacket: thrifted SES Fashions mustard yellow cardigan
Scarf: Alexander McQueen pink pashmina in skull and floral printDress: Atmos&Here navy stripe tee dress
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan satchel in Harvest Gold
Why I wore it:
Every time I wear this dress I seem to notice it's been a long time between wears! With the thick fabric and longer sleeves, it's usually packed away with my winter things which doesn't give me many opportunities in the year to wear it. It's such a comfortable tee dress though, with a slightly longer hem in the back so that I feel comfortable sitting on the floor with the boys when I'm wearing it.You might have seen I've just posted blue and yellow outfits, and I'm wearing the colour combination again! I like yellow and blue together, and really like this mustard cardigan with the navy striped dress. Of course with the yellow cardigan, it made sense to pick out this Alexander McQueen skull scarf. It's yellow skulls on a pink background so a nice combination with this outfit. The mustard yellow Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag was another further bit of matchy-matchy.
The only thing I didn't like about this outfit was the tights. Having no luck finding fleece lined leggings, I tried a pair of these footless tights - you can see the little slivers of exposed ankle. They got some pulls in them on this first wear. With the boys in daycare while I worked it wasn't like I spent a long day with the kids being rough and tumble - I'm sad that they didn't have the quality behind them (and that I didn't keep the receipt!). Otherwise, this was such a great outfit.
Last worn: mustard cardigan, pink skull scarf, navy stripe tee dress, RMK ankle boots, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag.
Other ways to wear: mustard cardigan and little black dress, pink skull scarf and chambray dress, navy stripe tee dress and Converse, black ankle boots worn 30 ways, Rebecca Minkoff micro Regan bag and maxi skirt.
Perfect for pregnancy: pink skull scarf in third trimester, navy stripe tee dress in second trimester, ankle boots in second trimester.
Rebecca Minkoff Micro Regan and Mini MAC Comparison:
A little comparison video of the two handbags I'm wearing in this post, the micro Regan and mini MAC.
What I wore:
Scarf: Alexander McQueen modal skull scarf in white/pink
Dress: Zara printed bib front tunic dress
Shoes: Asos Cleo leather boots in tan
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC
Why I wore it:
Unlike the outfit above, I wasn't quite as pleased with this outfit. It seemed like a great idea, a navy shift dress layered up with fleece lined tights and tall boots to keep me cosy, with a purple cardigan and pink scarf for some extra colour, topped off with the neutral silver Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag.As I mentioned on Instagram, I think the white print on the dress and the mostly cream scarf didn't go that well together. I really like pink and blue together, but I think the first outfit works better as the scarf is more of a block colour. With the cream background and the hot pink skulls on this scarf, it doesn't sit as nicely with the print of the dress. Still a great colour combination and scarf, and just maybe not the right piece with this outfit.
The cardigan also was not as thick as I needed on such a cold day. The dress is long sleeved, but it's a thin viscose material and a thin cardigan on top wasn't as warm as I needed for a colder than expected winter day. Luckily I spent most of it working from home, but having to do the daycare runs and taking my son to his specialist appointment in the afternoon made me wish I'd worn something a bit warmer.
Last worn: purple cardigan, pink and cream skull scarf, navy printed shirt dress, tall brown boots, Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC.
Other ways to wear: purple cardigan and maxi dress, pink and cream skull scarf and stripes, navy printed shirt dress worn as a top, tall brown boots and skinny jeans, Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC and shorts.
Perfect for pregnancy: purple cardigan in second trimester, pink and cream skull scarf in third trimester, navy printed shirt dress in third trimester, Rebecca Minkoff metallic silver mini MAC in third trimester.
Skull Scarves Under $50:
They might not be Alexander McQueen, but they are still as fun to wear!
How You Can Wear It:
It's easy to add colour to a winter outfit with bright cardigans and fun scarves. A cheerful scarf with more than one colour in the print (like the pink and yellow skull scarf in the first outfit) makes it easy to pick other pieces like a cardigan that coordinates with it. Or you can go all out and pick different complementary colours like I did in the second outfit. Sticking with a neutral outfit base like a navy dress makes adding colourful accessories even simpler.Linking Up With Style On The Daily, Fashion Frenzy, Fashion Files, Fun Fashion, Fabulous Friday, Weekend Link Up, Flashback Fashion.

Cute bags as always! I like the combination of mustard yellow and pink in your first outfit :)

Thanks Alyssa, it is a fun colour combo! :)
DeleteOh I love your purple cardigan! And that's a bummer about the footless tights! Sorry they didn't work out that well. Hope you are having a great week, Mica!
ReplyDeleteGina || On the Daily Express
Yea, definitely annoying, but at least I know to avoid that brand in future!
DeleteI have some footless tights and haven't quite figured out how and when to wear them. If I'm wearing tights, that means it's cold outside, and I want coverage....I need to experiment more with them, I guess!!
ReplyDeleteThat first outfit is calling my name. The pink and gold together is so lively and fun!! I'm definitely going to copy that, Mica!!
XOXO

Yes, definitely something to experiment with! I thought they might be nice to wear with my Converse, but I didn't get to try that as these didn't last one wear, ha!
DeleteI agree, who says you can't wear fun colors in Winter! Both of these outfits look nice and cozy for working at home days. But I do agree, just something a little "off" with the second scarf and the dress. But the rest of that look is perfection!

Yes, I think any other scarf would have worked!
DeleteThis skull print scarf adds a lot of edge to these otherwise casual and subtle outfits! I can't imagine wearing a scarf right now haha, here in the UK I'd (surprisingly) die from the heat haha. Hope you're having a great week so far babe!

Hope you're getting some relief from the heatwave now!

I love McQueen's scarves. I got one for my sister for her birthday recently. They're the perfect accessory xx

What a nice gift! They are such fun accessories! :)
DeleteThe pink and mustard in the first outfit is a masterstroke of colour-mixing, Mica! Love it. Like you, I'm not as enamoured of the second outfit, and it's because of the pattern mix. They're both busier patterns that read as "messy" in photos (I avoid small, busy patterns for the most part because of this). However, you still look great!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sheila! The pink and yellow scarf was the inspiration :) I definitely think the pattern mix if off in the second outfit too.
DeleteI like both outfits, Mica, but I also prefer the first the most. Anything goes well with that McQueen scarf! And the blue and yellow really suits you as well:)
ReplyDeletePS I've never been a fan of tights but they really are practical for winter. You just reminded me I should get some when the winter weather comes!
Hope you have a great Thursday!
Tights are definitely a winter essential for me! :)
DeleteI love these fun colors! They must be such a mood changer. I ADORE that McQueen scarf!

ReplyDeleteThe colors in the first look are giving me life. What a beautiful combo. I love how you styled the second as well. Both beautiful looks Mica.

Comfort is key when working from home! Shirtdresses are a great option then, or a maxi dress and a tee, which is what I am wearing in the summer heat for working from home today.
ReplyDeleteAnne - Linda, Libra, Loca
Yes, comfort is so important, especially in the heat!
Deleteboth outfits are amazing, Mica! you look so stylish! they are just so pretty x
ReplyDeletehave a lovely day!
You always wear yellows so well, I think the mustard tones look amazing on you!
ReplyDeleteRaindrops of Sapphire
Thank you! I've only recently been embracing yellow, such a fun colour to wear!
DeleteYour outfit is making me feel sooo cosy! :) And I actually like the colour combination in the second outfit, it's very soft and feminine. Fab looks as always, my beaut! xoxo

Thanks Kay! I like the colour combo, just maybe needs a different scarf!
DeleteHi pretty lady, I pray all is well! Yes, dresses are easy on the go wardrobe items. ..Anything that saves a little time is a plus:) I love that you layered the dresses for warmth and you layered with color. Adore both looks!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful rest of the week!

That first color combo is perfection! I love navy and mustard together and the pop of pink is fantastic. Sorry to hear the second outfit didn't turn out how you wanted, but I still think it looks nice.

Thanks Lindsey! I'll need to try with a different scarf next time!
DeleteI love the colours you have mixed, the dark tones with the mustards.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking for the perfect mustard suede jacket recently!
www.samanthassnaps.co.uk
I hope you find it! Asos had a nice one recently I was tempted by, haha!
DeleteThat pink and white scull scarf is the cutest! I really love the dark blue/black striped dress with it! The yellow cardi goes great with these colors. You're way better and mixing and matching colors than I am! :)
ReplyDeleteCarrie

Thanks Carrie! You're great with your colour combos! :)
DeleteI'm loving your pretty layers and use of color! Too often when it is cooler, I wear darker colors and forget to inject bright shades in my outfit. But different color combos is such a great way to mix things up and brighten your day! Hope you are having a good week!
ReplyDeleteYes it's a fun way to brighten up an outfit and your day! :)
DeleteI like fleece lined tights, but they usually only last a couple wears before they are ruined! This last winter I think I just gave up on dresses and skirts and only wore pants.
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
I usually have great luck with them - the ones I have at the moment are at least 3 years old. But those ones i wore were no good at all, such a shame!
DeleteI really like the first look with the navy and yellow color combo :)
ReplyDeleteI have found some great tights at Uniqlo, not sure if there is one near you. I love the look, especially the McQueen scarf. XO, Ellese

That navy dress is such a cute combo with that pink skull scarf...and I really like the other outfit as well. You know skull scarves can look so adorable.

Ooh I love that first outfit so much Mica! The color combination is so pretty, yet unexpected. I never would have thought to go with a bright pink scarf but it looks great. I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Shea, that's my favourite outfit too! :)
DeleteLoving the layers dear, really chic patterns. Also, can't go wrong with OTK boots!
