Layering Tees Under Sleeveless Dresses For The Office With Rebecca Minkoff Regan Bag

When I'm feeling uninspired, I often go back through the archives of the blog to find the different ways I've worn things, to give me some inspiration. With a tough week, I knew I wanted easy outfits for the office, so I went with my classic fit and flare dresses. Looking back to one of the first ways I wore the black dress gave me the idea to layer them over some long sleeve tees. Great way to add some colour to an office outfit, and also keep me warm on the cold commute. The blue scarves were an extra touch of colour to brighten my day.

What I wore:

Tee: Valleygirl blue 3/4 sleeve tee
DressJeanswest tucked ponte black dress
Shoes: RMK Chester black ankle boots
BagRebecca Minkoff Regan Satchel Tote in moon

Why I wore it:

I knew I wanted to wear this teal top and little black dress together, that was an easy decision to make. I stood in front of my wardrobe the night before trying to think what scarf to wear with it, before I gave up and went to bed, leaving a pile of scarves to go through in the morning.

Most days I plan my outfit out the night before I wear it, but sometimes I leave accessory decisions to the last moment! I'm glad I did though, as when I'd put the outfit on in the morning and started looking at the scarves with it, this teal skull scarf was the obvious winner as the colours matched so well. You know I love a bit of matchy-matchy.

I felt great about this outfit - comfortable and practical for all of the rushing around I had to do, trying to make sure everything was in place to finish work early and race across the city for an urgent appointment for my son. I feel like 90% of my posts recently have been about one or both of the boys being unwell, winter hit us hard this year! I got a sweet gift from my colleagues as they know we've been having a hard time lately.

Why I wore it:

While the blues here don't match at all, I also really liked this outfit. I tend to default to blue when I need a bit of a boost - my favourite colour, a frequent go to as I know it's easy to wear, and sometimes you just need to simplify things as much as possible when life gets crazy.

The navy Rebecca Minkoff Regan bag was another shade of blue with the outfit, but I think all the different shades worked nicely with the black and white dress. Black and white is such a classic combo you can go all out with the other pieces you add to your outfit!

It was a really cold morning and I did regret picking ballet flats over ankle boots! I did add a trench coat to both this outfit and the one above too, but didn't wear it for the pictures as it would have covered up the sleeves!

Fit & Flare Dresses Under $50:

How You Can Wear It:

A classic sleeveless dress can be worn to the office year round! In the cooler months it's easy to winterise your dress by layering a long sleeve tee underneath. You can take the opportunity to add some colour to a neutral dress with a bold tee as I have, or keep things simple and stick with a neutral tee to compliment the dress.

  20. I always love the idea of adding a shirt under the dress like this. The funny thing is it's not the first way I think about layering, but it's fabulous!!
I usually save the accessories to the next day too....there's just something about adding in the bling at the last minute that can make it a little more spontaneous!!

  21. You do look great in blue! I prefer the second outfit, as the bold pattern really creates a fun look with the multi shades of blue (they don't have to match, they just have to go!). The first outfit would work better (IMO) with a bolder-patterned scarf - I can barely see the pattern of skulls on this one.

    Great layering, Mica!

  39. Loved reading this article, I also liked how you've done a YouTube explanation of the bag. It's so interesting as I've sworn by the same 2 Michael Kors bags for years now and I am keen to invest in another designer piece. This bag is just so versatile and can fit so much inside of it, whilst still looking chic.
Also, I really like the way you've styled your outfit, the pop of blue on the scarf is so great!
