What I Bought In August (And How I've Worn It) - Rebecca Minkoff Jumbo Love Bag

After achieving No Buy July I've been sticking firm to the Slow Fashion Season #FashionDetox challenge, which means buying no new fashion pieces from July to September. I'm really wanting to achieve that goal, and didn't see myself even doing much thrifting or second hand shopping for the 3 months, shopping that's allowed under the rules because it's not newly made.

But then I stumbled across a preloved bag for an amazing deal and just like I did in June, and March, and February... I impulse bought another handbag 😂 Maybe I need a handbag detox!

What I Bought:

This beautiful bag is the Rebecca Minkoff quilted jumbo Love bag in cobalt. It's a bag I've considered a few times over the years but the cheapest I've seen it on sale was $190 and I eventually thought too long even at that price and missed out on it. Being petite and wary of bigger structured bags I didn't want to spend a lot in case it was too big for me. It currently retails for $539 at David Jones so I'd always thought it would be a bag I wouldn't add to my collection.

But then I saw this second hand on Gumtree for just $50 - and knew I had to try it at that price! I do think it is a bit big for me, and I can't wear it crossbody like I do with my other love bags as it's down at my knees! But while it won't be a permanent addition to my handbag collection I plan to enjoy it for a while, the colour is amazing.

Given I don't see it being a staple for me and that I've found it a little tricky to style so far it's an impulse buy I probably shouldn't have bought, but I was so curious about this style and it's nice to have a jumbo Love bag to try. It also brings my total purchases so far this year to: 5 items of clothing, 4 bags and a wallet! 🤣 Definitely a bag buying year this year! They have all been second hand bag buys so I'm still just under budget.

How I've Worn It:

3 ways to wear rebecca minkoff cobalt jumbo love bag quilted leather | awayfromblue blog

If I was in the office more this would be the perfect office bag I think, but we are still under hybrid ways of working with it meaning working from home most of the time. I've tried to work this bag into more casual outfits, with varying rates of success. I'm determined to make this bag work though, it's just so beautiful!

  5. I like the bag a lot and I don't think it's too big, but I prefer bigger bags anyway. It was worth getting it, especially at a good price.

    1. It feels big to me as I usually go for softer more slouchy bags for my petite frame when they are this kind of size, but I'm getting used to it :)

  6. Actually, that bag is too versatile to be wearing in different ways. The white shirt is beautiful, Mica!

Enjoy the rest of this week :-)

  8. Oh, I love that bag - I think it goes really well with all three outfits. I'm not a big blue fan - but I really like that one. I don't think I have as many bags as you do :-) but I have quite a few, though I do hate to change purses - I can never find things then.

    1. I change my bags fairly regularly - I mostly keep the essentials to transfer between bags and the extra things in little pouches so it's easy to swap over :)

  11. What an awesome price on the hand bag. I'm sure you will figures way to wear it. You are always changing your hand bag out. I just use the same handbag until it falls apart.

    1. Yes I love switching up my bags! The oldest one I have is 30 years old so I'd be using them a while if I waited for them to fall apart, haha!

  15. Is there a way to shorten the strap? I prefer to wear bags crossbody too, and if I couldn't it would drive me crazy.

    1. Yes I showed a couple ways in the video to wear it with different strap lengths but because I'm so short I can only wear it on the shortest setting - the crossbody one is much too long for me, it's at my knees, haha!

I always like having different sizes of purses in my stash because you just never know what you need depending on the outfit. The color is so beautiful, and I think you've styled it wonderfully.

  26. Mica, that is a GORGEOUS bag, do not get rid of it! It seems like the perfect in-between size of the Mini Mac and the larger bags (like your Neverfull) you use. That is odd that they would use such soft leather on the body of the bag, but that, plus the lack of feet, leads me to think it's intended to get a soft squishy look over time.

I'm glad you showed how to shorten up the straps! I was going to suggest that, and I quite like it on you as a shoulder bag. Too long cross-body bags fall off my body or trap me when I bend over!

    Keeper!!

    1. yes it will be interesting to see if it does squish down a bit more over time! I will definitely only wear it as a shoulder bag though - I couldn't do it crossbody with it hitting the back of my knees, haha! It did slide off a couple times when I tried it on the long setting over the shoulder too, not for me!

  30. Congratulations on achieving a no buy month! I know it can be hard to do especially when you are surrounded by items all day as bloggers so kudos! I love RM. Her bags are so cute and I adore the Love collection. This Jumbo Love bag is stunning. The color is amazing and I agree, it would be a great work bag. I can't wait to see how you style it in future posts! Definitely will be on the lookout for those.

  34. I love big bags, so I would have snapped that bag up at that price, too. The blue of it is one of my favorite colors. I even painted my kitchen cabinets in that shade. I hope you got many years use out of you new bag. It is beautiful!

  35. I'm a medium-large bag person so out of all the bags in this general style I'd probably gravitate towards jumbo-sized ones. (I don't always love flap bags with a clasp, but if it's a crossbody one, it can work ok for me.) This looks like a fun bag to style!
